Total mileage

It was a good day. 246.75 miles covered and not a single cancelled train. A couple of trains were late, but our original timetable had just enough slack in it to allow for the odd calamity.

As the cost of the ticket was £10 it worked out at roughly 4p per mile travelled.

The highlight of the tour was to find that the preserved class 202 "Hastings Diesels" train was making a test run on the Marsh Link line between Hastings and Ashford International (and return). At the rear of the train was their new power car "Mountsfield", this was the first time we had seen that in action. As another plus point we were allowed to travel in the leading power car which is notionally first class, but declassified on this line.
