page 31 of 32 At long last, after a long weary, and somewhat painful, long slog the end of the pier at Herne Bay appeared out of the sea mist (just under the red arrow). At this point I still had as much as 1.5 miles to walk, and I was rapidly coming to the conclusion that I had almost bitten off more than I could chew. I was many miles past the point of no return and the only way home was to press on forwards.
