I recall very little sunshine
yesterday. In fact I am not there was a
single sunny spell. About the only good
thing was the temperature rising to 6° C.
Although only a very small rise it did seem
noticeable, and probably cut my electric
bill by a few pence.
I'm not convinced it was 8° C this
morning......On the other hand, my outside
thermometers are showing 9° C now. Later
today we should see 12° C, and that would
almost feel warm if it wasn't for the
strong winds expected a bit later. This
morning, and the rest of the daylight
hours should be almost bright, and indeed
there is some watery sunshine seeping
through a gap in the white cloud as I type
this. The latest revision to the forecast
shows light rain at 6pm, 7pm
willmay
be dry, and then the light rains picks up
again at 8pm. From 10pm heavy rain is
forecast. By then the wind could be
gusting at over 50mph, and even now it
might be gusting at 30mph. Tomorrow should
see moderately strong winds, and some
sunny spells. The highest temperature may
be 10° C.
The day before
yesterday I made a stupid mistake, and my
blood glucose readings were very high
yesterday. Yesterday I made a similar
mistake with similar consequences. There
is a reason for this, and that it was that
I didn't feel like going out shopping
again, and bought yet another naughty
takeaway.
Yesterday morning actually got off
to a good start. I was feeling moderately
good. Good enough to wash my hair, and
have a shower - both requisites before
going out in public to do the shopping I
ended up not doing. After showering I got
my big builders buckets out, and put some
clothes in to soak in detergent. They are
still there this morning !
Once my hair was dry, I started to
do some housework, and it did sort of feel
good to do it. I emptied several waste
bins into the appropriate wheelie bins -
which of course meant going out into the
big raw world outside. That didn't feel
too bad. I then did some washing up, and
started to prepare my dinner. I put some
waster, and some beef Oxo cubes in a
casserole dish, and opened the fridge to
get a pack of diced beef that I thought
was there - it wasn't, and I think I used
it a few days ago.
I decided to cook the broccoli I
was going to have with the beef on the
assumption that I would go out to Tesco to
buy more beef, but it never happened. I
think there were two reasons for it. Not
finding the beef in the fridge sort of
deflated me, and while it should have been
a lure to go out, it seems it was the
opposite. There was an extra reason to not
go out straight away. The Yodel tracking
page showed that I was expecting another
case of beer between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
My case of 24 cans of Skol lager
arrived at about 2pm. After the
anticipation had built up, and then after
they arrived, I also felt sort of
deflated. I did get as far as cutting up
the big box they came in, and putting it
into the recycling bin, but then, apart
from taking 4 cans out for later use, I
just felt the urge to relax. The book I am
reading, and which I described the day
before, made relaxing far to easy, and I
never did feel the urge to go to Tesco
after that.
It all meant that I would have to
get another takeaway. I am not sure why,
but I fancied fish and chips. Fortunately
I discovered there is a local fish and
chip shop, which also does burgers and
kebabs, that has the own web site to order
from, without involving Just Eat, and
although I didn't check, I made the bold
assumption that cutting out the middle man
should have reduced the cost by a Pound or
two.
I have used the shop before, and
one oddity is that the menu shows fish
and
chips, but you actually have to order the
chips separately. The first time I ever
used the place I assumed fish
and
chips included chips, but no chips arrived
! I am sure many people must have
complained about it over the years, but it
seems nothing has been changed. I actually
ordered a medium cod, and small chips,
plus a couple of kebabs. The latter was
partly to meet the minimum order for free
delivery.
The slightly ironic thing was that
despite having a yearning for cod and
chips, I didn't fully enjoy it - maybe
about 52% enjoyment. The other sort of
negative thing is that a "small chips" is
huge ! I knew it would still be a part
disaster, but managed to only eat half the
portion of chips. I actually had the rest
as an almost big breakfast this morning.
I ate my dinner while watching
another string of about 5 back to back (If
you ignore the tedious adverts getting in
the way) episodes of The Avengers. Despite
watching it with a sort of jaded eye these
days, they were still entertaining even if
all rather silly. As well as eating my
takeaway dinner during the second episode,
I also drank just three cans of my freshly
delivered Skol lager during the course of
the evening. It was nice, but somehow the
taste and strength made it easy to pace
myself. Oddly enough, the taste, although
a bit strong, is also very enjoyable when
drunk in small, infrequent doses.
It was probably 10pm when I went to
bed, or if it wasn't quite that late when
I went to bed, it was at least that late
when I put my book down, and soon after
fell asleep. I can't seem to remember
anything in particular that would prevent
me saying I had a good nights sleep. The
only time when my sleep was not that good
was in the last hour when I forced myself
not to get up earlier.
I had two notable dreams that I was
going to describe, but like most dreams, I
find one of them has slipped from my
memory. I think it probably involved a
supermarket, but that is all I can say
about it. The other dream was somewhat
dramatic, and maybe only a tiny bit
remains in my memory. I was walking home
from (I think) work, and it was a very
wintry day. There was thick snow on some
building a mile down the road. All of a
sudden a hurricane force wind started to
blow. It blew all the snow laying on the
building roofs off, and it looked like a
blizzard. meanwhile the sky had turned a
sort of nasty looking yellow colour. It
was like watching it on TV because I
seemed to be warm and dry just standing
there watching it happen down the road.
I had every reason to believe that
this morning would see an even bigger rise
in my blood glucose measurements. I
expected them to be well into the danger
zone, but that was not the case. The first
reading, on the Contour meter, was just
8.7mmol/l. That is a bit higher than
desirable, but otherwise barely notable.
The Sino Care meter, notorious for high
readings, only read 9.0mmol/l. While
definitely not good, it was nothing to
panic about. Only the GlucoRX meter gave a
more worrisome reading of 9.2mmol/l, but
even that is at the low end of higher than
desired.
I reckon I dodged a bullet
this morning. As noted further up the
page, I had the rest of the chips from my
takeaway for breakfast this morning. With
luck, any negativity from that breakfast
will be no worse than instant noodles, and
will have faded away in 24 hours when I do
my morning blood glucose check. I still
have a chicken shish kebab for dinner
tonight, and although it will not be nice
eating it cold, if I can have just that,
and nothing more, I might even get some
better blood glucose readings tomorrow
morning.
The main event today should be an
afternoon beer tasting session with Jodie.
I think she said she would be coming
today, and the trains are running for her.
Of course before that I need a shower, and
before I have a shower I need to finish
doing the laundry that is soaking in the
big bucket in the bath. If I have have
time, and I hope I have, I will also try
and get along to Tesco early this
afternoon.
