Yesterday was horrible, grey and wet,
but at least it wasn't that cold. at Midday
the temperature reached 9° C during all the
rain. Once the rain stopped the temperature
rose again, and reached 13° C by 7pm.
The Met Office seems to keep
changing it's mind about today. The amount
of sunshine or sunny spells has gone up
and down. The latest revision shows just
sunny spells lasting until 2pm. The BBC
forecast remains almost unchanged with a
forecast of sunny spells until sunset.
Only a slightly strong breeze is forecast
for today, and maybe the forecast 11° C
might even feel pleasant during a sunny
spell. Tomorrow could see the temperature
a degree or two higher, but it will come
at the cost of grey skies and some
showers.
Yesterday was one of
those days that was good and bad. The good
can be summed up by saying I successfully
hand washed another thick pair of sweat
pants, plus a couple of pairs of
underpants. That accounts for more than
half of anything useful I did yesterday.
Other useful stuff was cooking
dinner, but that only took about 5 minutes
of my time, and the timer on the mini
oven/grill did the rest. I guess doing a
bit of washing up was useful too, although
there was so little to do that I could
have left it another day.
Probably the only other thing to
say about yesterday was some mild boredom
lead me to eating a bit more than
desirable, but all of it was of stuff
known to be mostly safe for my blood
glucose level. I had two lots of rice
crackers. One lot was at about midday, and
I put little squares of corned beef with
mustard on the crackers. At about mid
afternoon I had the second lot of rice
crackers, but they had cream cheese on
them.
Dinner, eaten while watching a Star
Trek episode was grilled/roast sprouts
with diced lamb garnished with some mint.
I really like it as a recipe, and I know
it to be safe for me - at least in terms
of blood glucose, maybe less so when it
comes to "wind", although I don't seem to
be farting this morning - yet ! If
there is one problem with it, it is that I
have cooked and eaten it so many times now
that I have to confess it is getting
boring. Time for a new recipe !
As well as Star Treks, I also
watched an episode of The Simpsons, and
one episode of QI. I could have watched
the episode that followed, but Johnny Vega
was one of the panellists, and he make me
feel ill. Shame really because if I had
stayed up to watch it, I would also have
watched Have I Got News For You that
followed, but I had an early night. That
gave me a bit of extra time to read in
bed, but I turned out the light, and was
soon asleep before 11pm, and probably
before 10pm.
It seemed like I woke up every 2
hours last night. I probably went for a
pee every time, but most times I was very
far from busting. I doubt it would have
been really terribly urgent even if I had
put it off once or even twice. I guess it
is now just force of habit - if I wake up
I got for a pee whether needed or not. I'm
not sure why I woke up so frequently, but
my guess would be because of the
temperature. It was a very mild night, and
it only took the heater on low to keep my
bedroom warm enough to sleep at least half
uncovered for much of the time, but not
all the time.
I know I had a long series of
probably short dreams, but it was more
like watching a serial on TV - every
episode almost picked up from how the last
one ended - allowing some artistic
licence. The basic premise of the dreams
was that I was spending a long time in my
neighbours house. The odd thing is it
seemed to be the house on the left, but
the interior, and inhabitants of the house
were of those on the right.
I can't recall that there was ever
an explanation of why I was there - I just
was, although there was a general feeling
that I knew people there much better than
I do in real life. It is hard to describe
any story about it all because there
wasn't much of a story to tell, but I can
mention a couple of oddities. One one
occasion we were on top of the flat roofed
part of an attic extension, and it was
pouring with rain. yet with no protection
we remained perfectly dry.
The other oddity was that in one
"episode" of the dreams I was looking out
a back window, and instead of a small
garden there was an immense field with a
river running through it. The river was
partly dammed by a brick wall on three
sides to make a sort of swimming pool.
Access was still via a muddy river bank on
the side with no brick wall, but inside
the enclosure the water was calm, and
seemed clear.
After only have the heater on low,
and having just about kicked off the
duvet, I woke up feeling quite cool.
Turning the heater on full was very
desirable ! After a very small pee, and a
moderate poo, I checked my blood glucose
readings. I was not sure what to expect.
One reading, the one on the Contour meter
was higher than expected. it is usually
quite lenient, but this morning it read
8.6mmol/l.
That was in the "typical" range,
but I had hoped for better. Fortunately
the other two meters gave better readings.
The GlucoRX meter read quite good
8.2mmol/l, and the Viva Chek meter
surprised me with the lowest of the three
readings. It read 8.0mmol/l - not quite
good enough to push it into the green
(readings starting with 7.xx), but
obviously very close. With readings like
that I should have had a more moderate
breakfast, but I felt hungry........
Today there is essentially just one
thing on the menu - lunchtime in The Jolly
Farmers. One thing I didn't mention about
yesterday morning is that I not only
showered, but washed my hair,
and had
a shave. Today I will just need a nice
shower before I am ready to go out. It
might be possible to get a bit of shopping
in before I go out, but there is nothing I
desperately need, and I don't fancy
rushing around.
Once again I will extend the offer
to Michael to join me in the pub for an
hour or so. At this point in time I have
no idea if he is still spending all day,
and probably all night, at his wife's side
in the hospital, but if he is he really
needs to take a break before he goes
doolally. Besides which I want to talk
about a few things with him. I am
convinced that something has happened to
Angela's husband. I am now very sure he is
no longer with the band he was drumming
for, and hasn't even been mentioned by her
on social media. He could be ill, or he
could be buried under the patio. it is all
a mystery, and I need someone to discuss
it with !
