Yesterday was generally
blood miserable. It was either
dull or very dull, and if it
wasn't raining, it still looked
very damp outside. The only
positive thing is that the
temperature slowly rose from 7° C
in the morning, to 12° C by 9pm.
The day starting at 12° C
is probably the only good thing
about today, although a possible
14° C in the early afternoon
could be good too. Other than
that it will be very dull for
most of today. The big
unanswered question is "how much
rain, and when ?". The BBC
forecast shows lots of assorted
drizzle and shower splattered
across the day. The Met Office
also forecast rain, but the
latest revision to the forecast
says it will only fall after
10pm. Meanwhile the puddles in
the road persist, possibly
fed by fine, almost invisible
drizzle. Tomorrow could see 14°
C, or even 15° C. The Met Office
say there will be 100% white
cloud all day. The BBC say sunny
spells for much of the day. One
of them has to be wrong.
Yesterday was
a miserable day. The horrid
weather did nothing to give any
cheer, and actually did the
opposite by making all my aches
ache worse then usual. I
actually felt ill for a lot of
the day, and while I am very
sure it couldn't have been 'flu,
it did share many of the same
symptoms.
My stupidly high blood
glucose readings in the morning
meant I had to fast after
breakfast until dinner time. On
some days that is easy, but not
on a cold and miserable day. I
seemed to feel cold for a lot of
the day, but I frequently
checked my temperature, and it
didn't even approach the
beginnings of a fever. That
suggests all my aches were
purely caused by it being cold
and damp outside, and probably
by a change in atmospheric
pressure. Maybe I was suffering
from
the
bends.
While the bends is a
severe problem, fatal in some
cases, brought on by large
changes in pressure (such as
those caused by deep sea
diving), it is not supposed to
be a symptom of low pressure
typically during grey wet
weather. However, that is
acknowledged to be the cause of
some headaches, and some pain
around the head -
https://www.healthline.com/health/headache/barometric-pressure-headache#prevention.
Quite what the mechanism is that
seems to be getting worse every
winter, is unknown, but I feel
very sure it exists.
I did almost nothing
yesterday, but I won't claim to
have been 100% bone idle. I did
do one important thing. I
emptied three general waste bin,
and the recycling bin. I also
cut up the box that my beer
delivery came in. It arrived
about 10 minutes early to the
suggested time slot of 11am to
midday. That suited me fine,
although maybe only because
after that I could stand down
from listening out for the door
bell, and could do some more
intensive nothing.
The next thing of note
that I did was to make up the
salad I had for my dinner. Oh, I
am almost forgetting that I
didn't end up completely fasting
until dinner time. Sometime in
the early afternoon I did munch
on a handful of salted peanuts.
Back to my dinner...It was a
very large salad featuring lots
of green and vegetable stuff,
plus diced "spam" and diced
cheese. I feared I might have
over done it a bit, but so far
everything seems OK.
I took the picture of my
salad from an angle that showed
the top as well as the depth of
the bowl. As can be seen, the
bowl is very well filled. One
thing I added too much of was
spring onion. I diced one extra
large spring onion, and two very
slender spring onions. My
feeling now is that just a bit
of spring onion is enough to
give a bit of taste to
occasional mouthfuls. Another
thing that seems best, or maybe
actually edible, is thinly
sliced celery. I hate celery in
bulk, but thinly sliced, with
out stuff, it is not too bad.
I watched some assorted
TV last night, but I can't say I
enjoyed it all that much. The
last thing I saw was Have I Got
News For You (on Dave). That
finished at 10pm, and I went to
bed straight after, although I
did read in bed for another half
hour. While watching it I turned
the heater up full, and I took a
couple of Paracetamol tablets in
the hope of getting a better
sleep. It half worked, but I did
seem to still wake up at least
every 2 hours - maybe not for a
pee, but I did have a pee every
time. It seemed like my blood
glucose was high again.
One of the best things
about my night was that I had
two sexy dreams, and a couple of
other dreams that were sort of
pleasant, but forgettable. The
first sexy dream was in the
first hours of sleep. I was in a
bedroom with three bed, and two
of them were for a a couple of
girls - not young girls, but
more my own age, which seemed to
be in my twenties. It was
morning, and I was dressed, but
lounging on my bed. The girls
asked if I was going to stay
there and watch them get
dressed. I said yes please, and
that the sight of tits and bums
would brighten the day. They
just tutted, and started to
prepare to get dressed.
Unfortunately I woke up then -
so not really a sexy dream.
The next "sexy" dream was
closer to the morning. It was
one of those dreams that had no
beginning or end. It was almost
like a snapshot, but it wasn't
just still life. I had no proof,
but I think I was naked. I was
approached (maybe she came
through a door) by an old female
friend from about 30 years ago,
and she too was naked. One of
asked if we wanted a cuddle, and
we did. I remember a soft warm
body pressed firmly against me,
and then in the annoying
typicality of dreams I woke up !
All the peeing in the
night, or at least it's
frequency, rather than quantity,
suggested I was going to be very
disappointed with my blood
glucose measurements. I wasn't !
The Contour meter read a good
7.7mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter
read an even better 7.3mmol/l,
and even the Sino Care meter
read a fairly good 8.0mmol/l.
Evidently my fasting worked, or
worked well enough. I do wonder
if there was a reason for the
high readings yesterday that I
hadn't considered. Maybe it was
not what I ate, which should
have been mostly OK, but my body
fighting an infection. Curiously
enough, it is pretty miserable
weather today, but so far I
don't seem to feel too bad.
The highlight today is a
trip to the pub for my usual
Wednesday drink of a couple of
pints of Guinness. I expect I'll
be on my own today, as usual,
but there is a tiny chance that
Michael could pop in. The last
time I saw him, last Thursday,
he said his wife was probably
due home from hospital over the
weekend. I have heard nothing
since. It is possible, although
unlikely, that now she is back
in her own home she might be
more settled, and maybe Michael
might allow himself an hour of
freedom, but I bet he
doesn't.
