Yesterday seemed nothing
like any revision of the weather
forecast. It was really gloomy
until about midday when the sun
blazed a hole in the clouds. After
that it was supposed to be sunny,
but there were not enough sunny
spells following to be really
memorable. There were certainly no
full hours of full sunshine as
predicted in the earliest
forecasts. The temperature
forecast was about right, and the
mercury did touch 13° C.
The latest revision to
the forecast has changed all but
the midday dark cloud to white
(or light) cloud. There is a 10%
chance of rain at any time, but
no actual rain is forecast The
latest revision shows that the
temperature will not go above
12° C today. Tomorrow could
start with heavy rain until 9am
when light rain will fall until
almost sunset. The temperature
should reach 12° C, but not
until sunset. before that it
will be generally 10° C.
Yesterday
started out so dull that I could
not believe the day could ever
be nice enough to tempt me out
for a walk - even to the shops.
I was most startled at midday
when instead of having a shower,
I decided to wash some clothes,
and the sun suddenly burst
through the clouds while I was
just finishing adding the
clothes to the detergent.
For a while, and it
turned into a short while, I
thought I had misjudged the
weather, and instead of doing
laundry I should have been
showering prior to going out. It
didn't seem long, maybe 15
minutes or less, before the sky
clouded over again. Despite the
very optimistic idea that the
afternoon could even feature 3
or 4 hours of non stop sunshine,
I remember the afternoon being
mostly dull - although there
were more sunny spells.
That laundry, consisting
of a single t-shirt, a pair of
lounge pants and some underwear,
was about the only really
significant thing I did all day.
One less significant thing,
although not really
insignificant, thing I did was
to make up a short coax patch
lead so I could play my VHS
machine through my big TV via
the RF connection. It seemed to
be a good clean signal, but my
hope that the TV's inbuilt
recorder could record it turned
out to not be possible. I am
very certain that the problem
was that the TV has no inbuilt
digitiser, and can only record
Digital TV which is already in a
digital format.
I was checking the status
of an order on Amazon, and as
you do, I flicked around a few
pages of bargains, warehouse
deals, and also a section I had
not seen before - bulk deals. I
noticed big packs of Duracell
batteries, and two presumably
supplied by different third
party vendors. It would seem
that buying more costs less.
This is often the case in real
life, but a difference of just
two items doesn't seem to make
enough difference for buying
more for less than the price of
a smaller amount.
I think the only other
thing I did yesterday, besides
quietly reading, was to wash up
the beer glasses used on Sunday,
and to prepare my dinner. The
first step in that was
grilling/roasting a pack of
diced beef. This time I did not
let it burning, and most of it
was quite soft when I ate it
later (with a few exceptions
that may have been a bits of
gristle, or crispy roasted fat).
It turned out to be a
fairly nice salad, and in theory
it should have been modestly low
calorie, and also modestly low
sugar. Maybe the two tomatoes
and three large radishes, made
it not quite a sugar free as
hoped. I ate it while watching
Star Trek: Enterprise. It was a
well remembered episode, but
still enjoyable. later on I
watched an episode of The
Simpsons, and an edition of Have
I Got New For You.
I could have watched
more, and after going to bed I
could have read more, but I
seemed ready to fall asleep not
long after 9pm. I feel
sure that by 9.30pm I had been
asleep for some time. I also
feel sure that I slept very well
last night, although I do have a
sort of itchy feeling that maybe
I did suffer from 20 minutes or
something of insomnia at some
time during the night. What I am
sure about is that this morning
was another case of 10 minutes
more sleep turning into at least
a hour !
I have a sort of reason
the think I had a dream that
featured a woman, but if I did I
have no idea who she was, and
how I might have interacted with
her. I did have a really mixed
up dream that seemed to be about
me being in Dulwich telephone
exchange, doing very little.
Suddenly (obviously a different
dream) I was in the old BT
training school near Old Street
tube station. I was ready to go
home, and wanted a pee before I
left.
The first toilets I came
to where effectively out of
order, and I decided to try a
different floor. In the dream
only one floow was used by BT,
and so were weren't strictly
allowed to visit other floors,
but needs must..... I was
waiting by the lift when I
noticed an almost concealed
outline of a door in some wood
panelling. There was a small
handle, and as I touched it the
door opened by itself. Inside
was a wonderfully clean, well
appointed toilet. The only
trouble is that every time I
went to lock the door my hand
would be detected, and the door
would start to open again.
Fortunately the door put up
little resistance as I grasped
the lock and pulled to keep it
shut while I latched it.
Evidently I had done my
business, and that dream turned
into another dream. I was
outside, and considering my
options to go home. I was in a
small, rather grimy street.
There was a bus stand and a
number 50 bus waiting at it, but
not in service. I had an idea
that the 50 might take me
towards Charing Cross where I
could get a train (in real life
I don't think I have ever seen a
number 50 bus, and have no idea
where it comes form or goes to).
I thought I would walk to
the next bus stop and see what
other buses stop there. When
almost there two buses passed
me, and after they passed I
could see the entrance to a
Northern Line tube station. That
would definitely take me towards
Charing Cross or even London
Bridge station. At first I
started looking for change to
buy a ticket, and then
remembered I had a Freedom Pass.
I want into the entrance,
and didn't see any ticket
barriers. I followed the signs
saying "to the tracks" (which
didn't sound like Underground or
National rail terminology). I
went down some steps, and then
up some steps before going down
more steps. At the bottom there
seemed to be a sort of barrier
that only let people out one at
a time, but it wasn't checking
tickets. I seemed to think it
was counting passengers. I then
went up some steps and found
myself out on the road again
without seeing any underground
trains !
It seemed like a
good time to wake up. I think
that was at just before 6am. It
was then that I decided I ought
to try for just 10 minutes more
sleep, and woke up again after
7am. I am happy to say that once
again, after continuing to not
take the Turmeric, Ginger and
Black Pepper pills someone (I
think it was Michael)
recommended to me, I once again
passed another large stool
completely painlessly.
There was almost, but not
quite, good news about my blood
glucose readings this morning.
The first reading taken with the
Contour meter was very high
(9.6mmol/l), but the other two
gave far better readings. The
GlucoRX meter read 8.1mmol/l,
and the Sino Care meter read
8.6mmol/l. I decided to retake
the Contour meter reading. On
the second reading it read
8.4mmol/l, and was now in the
middle of the other two
readings. These readings were
neither good nor bad, but just
average while I had hoped they
would be below average.
Oh well there is always
tomorrow for lower readings,
except tomorrow they could be
higher ! Today I really must go
out and get some shopping from
Tesco. That is always dangerous,
and I will try not to get
anything too stupid for lunch,
but if I see something with a
reduced price sticker on
it....... Tonights dinner may be
a very simplified salad. It
could be as simple of iceberg
lettuce and corned beef, but it
will probably have a tomato or
two in it, and maybe some celery
if they have some nice sticks of
it (the last lot I saw seemed to
be like shavings from a celery
tree !).
I've been saving this for
a day when I feel very
depressed, but I forgot it the
last time. I'll probably forget
it next time, so rather than it
cluttering up my desktop I have
used it today, and now I can
remove it to part of my file
system where I doubt I will
where it is when I need it.
