page 28 of 32 Each individual hole has it's own pebble in it. When the rock is submerged in the sea, and the water is swirling about, the pebble whirls round and round gradually wearing a hole into the rock. That much is certain, but I can only guess that originally the pebble was caught in some naturally occuring flaw in the rock.
