The
current temperature is, or was 0.8° C
when I checked my garden thermometer
maybe 20 minutes ago. By the afternoon
it is forecast to rise to 6° C, and
maybe 7° C at 3pm. This morning will
feature a fair amount of sunshine, but
the afternoon will probably be a bit
dull. This spell of winter like
weather continues tomorrow morning,
when 0° C is forecast for the early
part of the morning. It should then
start to warm up to as high as 8° C in
the afternoon. Like today, there will
probably be sunshine in the morning,
and a cloudy sky in the afternoon. The
day after, Thursday, should see the
temperature get back to 10° C, and
maybe 11° C if we are lucky.
After my early morning shopping
things got a bit routine yesterday. I
didn't really do anything during the
morning, and I didn't really do
anything for a few hours into the
afternoon. Maybe that should be a few
hours plus one. A broken down train
blocked the line at Catford Bridge
when Jodie was due to come over for a
boozing session. In the end it seemed
easier for Jodie to get the bus
instead of the train, and out boozing
session started later than usual.
There are some weird beers
around, and so weird descriptions of
the beer on beer cans these days. None
of the 4 cans of beer I bought from
Aldi in the morning were very nice.
The Strawberry Lager did have the
merest hint of some sour strawberry in
it - maybe one semi-decaying
strawberry per 10 gallons of beer. I
couldn't recommend it. The Vanilla
Stout did have a vanilla taste to it,
but it tasted like vanilla candles -
nasty and waxy. The New England IPA
did have a sort of nasty tropical
fruit flavour. It was very sour and
cloudy. The "Twice As Nice" IPA was
the best of the four cans, but was a
little too bitter for my tastes.
I showed this picture
yesterday, but after saying what they
actually tasted like (to my palate) I
thought a reminder picture might be
useful.
Even though Jodie had arrived
late, I encouraged her to leave at
about the normal time, and she left at
about 6.35pm or thereabouts. Maybe I
was feeling tired or something, or
maybe it was the rotten beer, but I
didn't really enjoy that boozing
session. I was more looking forward to
my dinner. I had fish for dinner, and
nothing else. I started with a couple
of haddock fish cakes as a sort of
starter, and then while the oven/grill
was hot I cooked some salmon. Both
were tasty, and in theory gave my guts
a rest from fatty red meats.
I only watched half a "Carry
On" film while I ate dinner, and while
I relaxed after eating. It was "Carry
On At Your Convenience". It was
followed by "Carry On Up The Kyhber".
That was probably the funniest "Carry
On" film of all time, but I preferred
to head to bed to read. I can't
remember what time I turned the light
out, and tried to go to sleep, but I
do remember feeling very
uncomfortable, and it took ages before
I fell asleep.
The discomfort was mainly the
temperature. I was the old story. I
was feeling too hot under the duvet,
and too cool without it. The root of
the problem was that with temperature
close to zero expected in the morning
I didn't want to let my bedroom cool
down to much. I left the heater on
low, and at about 4am I woke up
feeling cold, and turned it up to full
blast. My troubled sleep gave me
plenty of dreams, and some were not
pleasant - not the stuff of nightmares
with threats to life, but just silly
things like the lock on my front
door breaking.
The worst legacy of that
troubled sleep was really painful
lower back ache. It has partly
dissipated already, but earlier on,
something very simple and everyday -
wiping my bottom - was agony ! On top
of that I have a bit of a headache
that I am fairly sure is not a
hangover - yesterday's boozing session
was almost lightweight compared to
some. The worst thing is that my blood
glucose is up to 9.2mmol/l this
morning. I had hoped it would be lower
instead of higher than the day before.
I don't think it was anything I ate,
and so I have to blame one, or more of
the beers I drank yesterday.
I'm not sure what I am doing
today. Yesterday I had some crazy idea
that I would put on my thickest winter
coat and go for a walk - possibly in
the morning while the sun was shining.
I feel less keen on doing that now
despite it being good for me. I'm now
thinking that I really ought to pull
my finger out, and start selecting and
editing the pictures I took at the
street gig on Sunday. I also have some
video of it that needs editing - one
song (or was it two) I shot using my
big Canon on a mini tripod, and on my
pocket sized Canon camera hand held.
It is probably something like 10 years
since I tried my hand at multi camera
video editing. I hope that my current
video editor can be persuaded to work
the same way as the old one I used to
use.
