It is
probable that today will be no better
than today. Most of the day will be
dull (even the sunny spells at 6pm
have been removed in the latest
revision), and sometimes very dull.
There was none shown, but there was a
light sprinkle of rain at around 9am,
but oddly enough it was accompanied by
a few short, slightly diffused, sunny
spells ! The early version of the
forecast, in the screenshot above, was
optimistic about the temperature. The
latest revision is more pessimistic
with just 18° C forecast. Tomorrow
looks like it will come out of the
same mold as today and yesterday.
It would be easy to say
that yesterday was another day when I
did nothing. That is only true if only
physical exercise/work is considered.
The end product of hours and hours of
sitting at my PC all day is a still
only 20% completed spreadsheet listing
all the pictures of trains I have
photographed over the years. It has
meant searching through my photo
archives, and very often re-editing
photos using newly found skills
(although mostly cropping, shrinking,
and a bit of exposure correction).
I started the spreadsheet a
week or two ago, and originally it was
specifically for one class of train -
the class 465 and 466 electric
multiple units. I started it because
they are due to be phased out around
here, and will be replaced by
secondhand, low mileage, class 707
trains originally ordered for South
West trains. Apart from no toilets,
they are very similar to Thameslink
class 700 units.
It was inevitable on a day like
yesterday that I would eat a bit more
than was ideal. At least most of what
I ate was relatively safe, although
maybe only when eaten in isolation. I
had fish fingers for breakfast. They
are pretty low in sugar, but they
still seemed to slow me down. By 1pm I
wanted more to eat, and it was because
it was cold after sitting quietly at
my PC for a long time. I had a couple
of cans of soup.
One of the soups I considered,
but didn't eat was Baxter's pea and
mint soup. It appeared to have a lot
of sugar in it. While heating up my
second can of soup, an Aldi own brand
pea and ham soup, I rechecked the
Baxters label. Unlike all other soup
makers (or the ones I am familiar
with) they show nutritional
information for the whole can. Others
quote it for half a can, and so it was
no surprise the Baxter's looked very
high. Even dividing the figure by 2
still makes it higher than all my
preferred soups.
My dinner was something unusual
- peri-peri flavoured smoked mackerel.
It was delicious, but like all smoked
fish it needed something to follow to
keep the smokiness inside. I opted for
a little tub of Tesco 4 bean salad. I
added chilli sauce and some mayonnaise
to it. The latter was best quality
Helman's mayonnaise, and probably
wasn't a good idea. I think the last
thing I ate, maybe an hour after
dinner, was a chunk of cheese.
There's not a lot to say about
my sleep. It was pretty good, maybe
very slightly better than
average. The only notable thing
was two dreams that I am desperately
trying to remember. The first
was set in, or ended up at a cheese
shop. I was trying to buy two lots of
cheese, but the man who served me for
the first bit of cheese said "it was 3
times the usual price today". That
seemed steep, but for some reason I
think I bought it. I then tried to buy
a different cheese from a lady who was
serving there.
She didn't seem to know the
price, and was leafing through a very
ancient ledger trying to work out how
much to charge me. At that point an
alarm started to sound from a back
room because a door had been opened
(or maybe left open). The people in
the front of the shop had no idea what
had happened. I knew what had
happened, because I had read the book.
The man in the back of the shop had
been kidnapped by nasty people. I
suddenly realised that I was in a
book, and woke up.
After going for a not really
needed wee, I went back to sleep, and
I was soon dreaming. It was a sort of
continuation of the previous dream,
but this time it was like watching a
movie. I noticed that the white tiles
in the back room had a slight hint of
magenta about them, and realised that
someone had got the colour balance
wrong. I don't remember any more after
that. I may have woken up again.
I was hoping my blood glucose
would have stayed low yesterday, but
it was inevitable that after being
very sedentary all day, and eating
three meals, even meals that were
generally safe, my blood glucose would
not be going lower. Instead it would
be higher, but at least it was only
only 8.2mmol/l, and that is below my
average for the month (and the last
few months). I guess that should be
thought of as a limited success.
Today I can say I have done
some limited exercise. I have been
shopping in Aldi. Once again I had to
make it known that I wanted to use a
manned checkout, and as soon as I was
told to start unloading my trolley,
three others immediately queued up
behind me. Many won't make a stand,
but many really don't like self
service checkouts even if it does give
a great opportunity for theft by those
who have the nerve to try it.
I seemed to spend a lot in Aldi
this morning, but I did buy two
bottles of vodka (one was raspberry
flavoured), and some detergent and
fabric conditioned. The steaks I
bought weren't that cheap either. I
suspect if I had bought the same in
Tesco I would have spent even more. As
a means of judging how well my legs
were working this morning I would have
to say pretty fair. I maintained fair
walking speed there and back (while
carrying a fair load).
Today I doubt I will be using
my legs much, and that is probably
just as well after eating another fish
breakfast. Today I expect I'll end up
adding more to my trains photographed
spreadsheet. It is also the last day
of the month, and I'll have to prepare
a web page for September on this
website. That shouldn't take long
though. There is one other thing I
have started, and it might have been a
mistake considering how bad today's
weather could be. I have started
washing three (or four ?) t-shirts and
some other bits and pieces. I may have
to dry them inside, but I'll probably
give them a few hours outside to get
at least half dry.
