At the moment
the sky is a fairly dirty colour, and
the idea that the sun will come out
looks remote. If anything it looks like
it might rain ! The latest revision to
the forecast still says sunny spells,
and even sunshine, between 10am and 1pm.
The rest of the day, starting at 3pm, is
still shown as in the screenshot above -
heavy rain followed by lighter rain
until 7pm. It looks like a rather cooler
day today, with the temperature only
reaching 12° C. Tomorrow may feature
just light cloud with the possibility of
a few sunny spells in the morning. The
temperature may only reach 11° C.
There isn't a lot to say about
yesterday because I was too depressed to
really do anything. It didn't start like
that. I was optimistic about the morning
sunshine, and I went for the extended
morning routine of a shower, washing my
hair,
and having a wet shave -
although I did it all in the reverse
order. The only fly in the ointment was
that I hadn't managed to go to the
toilet (for number twos !). Then I
checked the National Rail web site....
Seeing this really pissed me off
big time. I had assumed that the
previous advice, that masks were
recommended, particularly on busier
trains, was still in force. It
seems that the latest government diktak
is that now
recommended has
changed to
mandatory. Reading
that not only ruined my plans for
yesterday, but ruined my plans to try
and do more rail travel, to the seaside
for instance, this year. It looks like I
am still limited to as far as I can
walk, and walk back.
As a result of all this I
couldn't be bothered to do anything all
day. I spent the day reading - either
from a book, or online. I might have
also done a few dodgy downloads to fill
in a few of the tedious gaps in the day.
I am forgetting there is one little
thing I did soon after getting up
yesterday. It was to give a good clean,
and test a "diskman" that I must have
bought 20 years ago (mainly because it
can also play mp3 files burnt onto
recordable CDs.
I am happy to report that it does
still work. If it has one fault it is
that the lid closing mechanism is a bit
stiff. A very thin smear of silicone
grease may cure that. There was a reason
for getting this antique out, and it was
to do with some conversation last
Thursday. Michael said he had never
heard of the Led Zepplin album I was
playing a track from. It felt like it
would be good to be able to play CDs
while were are drinking. I can play them
in the old laptop I use as an mp3
player, but somehow it feels more
appropriate to use a real CD player.
My constipation lasted through
the whole day (but did end this
morning). It was not really
uncomfortable most of the time, but I
could feel it, and now and then there
was some very slight discomfort. It was
just another annoyance on a day where I
felt very annoyed. I didn't fancy going
out walking like that, and while the
weather did sometimes look good, it
didn't always feel good. Even in the
brightest sunshine it still looked damp
outside, and the puddles in the road
hadn't started to dry up.
There was one further annoyance -
a self inflicted annoyance. As I
mentioned yesterday morning, the Chinese
takeaway I had the night before had
pushed my blood glucose up into the
danger zone. It meant that Ideally I
would have fasted all day, and then had
some sort of light and safe dinner, but
I had two unused portions of takeaway to
use before the end of the day (If
I had a really big freezer I might have
frozen them for later use).
I did manage to eat nothing but
those two takeaway portions yesterday. I
had the first for lunch at about 1pm. It
was roast pork fried noodles, and it was
delicious even if it was evil. I had the
other portion for dinner at about 6pm.
It was fried Singapore noodles, and it
too was delicious. If I ever use the Tai
Won Mein Noodle House again I think I
will ignore the noodle soup based
dishes, and stick to the fried noodle or
fried rice dishes. They are large
portions, and fairly expensive. I think
one, by itself, would be a big enough
meal, and although not 100% safe, might
be just about OK if I was starting from
a lower blood glucose level.
There was nothing on TV to catch
my attention last night, and I went back
to my book. I was coming to the end of
one book, and so I stuck with it until I
had finished. I then read the first
pages of the next book in the series
before trying for sleep. In theory,
after getting so little sleep the night
before, I should have fallen asleep very
quickly, but it took a bit of time I
guess I was asleep some time around 11pm
- I had been aiming for 9pm !
I don't remember a lot about my
sleep last night. I know I got up for a
pee a few times, but it was almost like
I slept unusually well - or maybe it
wasn't that unusual considering I had a
bit of sleep deficit to make up. I even
slept a bit later than my now usual 7am.
For some stupid reason I hoped my blood
glucose level may have been a bit lower
this morning, but after all those fried
noodles it couldn't really be low.
Indeed it wasn't. It was still
10.4mmol/l - the same as yesterday, and
in the danger zone.
It is obvious that I have to fast
for most of today. That will not be easy
because I can't even stop thinking about
how much I want some breakfast ! Ideally
I should try to go for a walk as well.
The sun did half (maybe a quarter) come
out just now, but it has gone in again,
and the sky still looks filthy. All I
can do is hope for an improvement once I
have had a shower, and got dressed.
Other than that, I feel it is going to
be another day where I am thankful that
I have such a big book collection. I
can't see me doing much with the rest of
my life at the rate things are going.
