There was a lot less rain than early
versions of the weather forecast said there
would be yesterday. I think I can even
remember a brief sunny spell. The forecast
said we wouldn't see the sun at all
yesterday. There was rain in the morning,
and some more in the middle of the
afternoon, but otherwise it seemed dry. The
temperature did seem to peak at the forecast
12° C.
Right now it is raining, but it
should be sunny ! It makes me wonder just
how accurate today's forecast will be. The
highlights should be sunny spells at 10am,
1pm, and full sunshine at 4pm. All other
times are shown as white cloud except for
2pm which seems like it will mix sunny
spells with heavy rain. Of course later
revisions to the forecast will probably
bring totally different prediction. One
thing is usually right, and that is the
temperature. Today the afternoon high may
be just 10° C. Tomorrow could be even
colder with just 9° C predicted. Tomorrow
morning may feature rain for a few hours,
but from 1pm it should be dry with some
sunshine possible later in the afternoon.
Last night was a bit of a
disaster, but most of yesterday was a
great day. After my morning writing I had
a shower, and washed my hair. Once that
was dry, and I was dressed, I headed to
the station to pick up two copies of the
Metro newspaper, take a couple of train
pictures, and then get the 12:34 train as
far as Ladywell.
I got to The Jolly Farmers a bit
early, and Kevin, who I was meeting there,
was a bit late. That meant I was a full
pint of Guinness ahead of him for the
whole session, and it was a rather long
session ! It was a most enjoyable session,
and I think my tally was 4 pints of
Guinness, 2, or maybe 3, double Jamesons
whiskey, and a single dark rum plus a
single golden rum. It was obvious it was
going to be a long, and very boozy
session. It always is when we meet so
infrequently, and there is so much to
catch up on.
Now the problem was that I was
drinking on an almost empty stomach, and I
got exceptionally drunk by the time I
headed home. I didn't really realise how
drunk I was until my legs sort of
collapsed on me as I walked through the
dark park. It was all a bit of a blur, but
rather than fall forward, I fell backwards
- very hard onto my bottom. Maybe my
rucksack, with a laptop in it, helped pull
me backwards.
The first time it happened I was
near some low railings, and I used them to
help pull myself upright again. The next
time it happened, over halfway home, a
very kind man (with dog) helped steady me
as I struggled to stand up. He then saw me
all the way home - which was a very kind
gesture. I got the impression he knew
roughly where I lived, and so I guess he
is probably a near neighbour, but I can
think who it is. I am more likely to
recognise his dog.
I don't remember anything after I
got home. This morning I saw plenty of
evidence I had fallen over a couple more
times, and it seems I managed to pull a
coat rack off the wall. There are three in
a line, and the end one was always a bit
loose. I shall use longer screws when I
put it up again. I have no idea what time
it was when I got home, but I would guess
it was after 7pm. Once up in my bedroom I
went on auto pilot, and put myself to bed.
I only know this because that is how I
found myself when I woke up around 3am.
I did my best to have a lie in this
morning, but from about 3am I didn't get
that much sleep, and I probably spent my
last hour in bed tossing and turning, and
failing to get to sleep. It was just after
7am when I got up. I still felt very
slightly wobbly, although some of it was
because I was in some pain. It feels like
I have bruised my buttocks, or maybe the
base of the spine. I have to be careful
how I sit down. To write this I am forcing
myself into a very good, straight backed
posture, and while holding this pose is
mildly hard work, it is otherwise
comfortable.
I had two surprises this
morning (beyond noting the carnage of me
falling over indoors several times). The
first was that despite eating very little,
and absolutely no dinner, I needed to do a
fairly substantial poo. The second was
when, after going to the toilet, I got on
the scales. I seems I have lost nearly 4kg
compared to my weight when I saw the nurse
3 or 4 weeks ago. I expect it is mostly a
transient drop, and my weight will go up a
bit later, but some of the loss may stick.
Last Friday morning I am sure I
mentioned I was a bit worried about what
rum might do to my blood glucose. It is
quite a sweet spirit, and my two rums last
night may be instrumental in raising my
blood glucose from a expected/hoped for
very low reading. My readings were good,
but not excellent. The lowest was
8.2mmol/l on the Sino Care (newest) meter.
The highest was 8.9mmol/l on the Contour
meter.
Apart from a lot of chatting with
Kevin, I also showed off the camera in my
Huawei P30 Pro mobile phone. It is a
fairly dimly lit pub, but that phone
camera turned out a pretty impressive
picture of Kevin. Apart from shrinking the
size to fit on this page, it is otherwise
untouched.
I should have put this picture
further up the page because I took it on
my way to the pub. It shows a very plump
looking heron standing in a shallow part
of the river at the rear of the St Mary's
Therapeutic Garden. It is a shame my
little Nikon S6300 only has a x10 zoom.
The bird was some way away, and more zoom
would have captured a close up.
I'm not sure if it is a wise idea,
but today, being a Thursday, I should be
joined by Jodie and Michael for another
boozing session. I need to make sure I
have a full stomach before we start
drinking, and possibly go a bit easier on
the booze. The other task for today is to
put the coat rack back up, but I don't
fancy using electric drills at the moment.
I feel every so slightly fragile !
