I didn't pay much attention to
the weather yesterday, but I seem to have
the impression, rightly or wrongly,
that it was not as wet as forecast. I do
know that it was a very cool day, and the
forecast for for a high of just 9° C seems
right.
The latest revision to the forecast
has improved on that shown above. 8am is
now shown as full sunshine, and as I write
this, with 8am just minutes away, the sky
is clear, and the sun is indeed shining,
but too low in the sky to light the road
or my house, but it should do soon. The
clear sky means the temperature is very
low at the moment, and while there was no
ground frost, there did seem to be frost
on a few neighbours garden shed roofs.
Today may be very sunny, but the best we
can expect is just 10° C. Tomorrow
there is a choice of weather. Over in BBC
land there will be a lot of drizzle and
light rain, but in Met Office land it will
stay dry until 5pm when over the course of
two hours the clouds will fully open to
give heavy rain. Then it will be dry
again. 10° C is also expected tomorrow.
Yesterday was another day of
rest and healing, and not a lot happened -
except healing. Which was a very good
thing. I think I probably have more to say
about my night, and this morning, than
about yesterday, but there are a few notes
I can make.
Yesterday all my scrapes,
abrasions, and bruising were very raw in
the morning, and I was starting to wonder
if I might have actually broken a bone of
the coccyx or somewhere. If I put pressure
on my bottom, at the very base of the
spine, it did feel very painful indeed,
but this morning I think it is unlikely
anything was actually broken. I think it
was just badly bruised, although I can't
actually see a bruise.
I feel I should have a big purple
bruise on the side of my right thigh. It
is very tender, but I can't actually see
anything. The only area that shows
something bruise like, but fairly feint,
is on my right upper arm, almost on the
shoulder, but that doesn't seem to be
developing into anything colourful....yet.
I've just take a picture of my
upper arm, and the bruised area does show
up, but it's hardly in your face. If I
could have got the camera a bit further
round my back it would make the scrapes
that can just be seen in the picture a bit
more obvious. My most obvious injury was
my scraped left knee. It rarely causes and
pain unless directly provoked, but has
cause some bother as I'll explain later.
One oddity is that while many
things I did could be uncomfortable, there
was one thing that felt better than
normal. It was standing up doing some
washing up. Sometimes that can make my
arms mildly ache when working with arms
outstretched, but yesterday I was doing
some washing up, and sort of marvelling
and how great it was to be completely pain
free !
I spent many hours laying on my
bed, usually reading, but I think I
managed to snooze for a bit too. Getting
to sleep was not easy because I was always
a bit uncomfortable when laying on my bed.
There was the neck ache I think I
described yesterday, although went away
once my head was supported by the
pillow. Trying to find a position where
the pressure on my bottom (or base of
spine) was not sometimes very
uncomfortable, and very tricky to do - if
indeed I ever fully managed it.
One thing I wanted to do yesterday
was going to get some shopping from Tesco.
In the end I decided I just didn't want to
spoil the healing, which was obviously
happening, and go traipsing off to buy
heavy shopping. My cupboard was far from
empty, and if I had been satisfied with
just soup, I had enough here to last a
week - possibly. One thing I did have was
a £9.92 discount on a kebab meal ordered
via Just Eat from a specific
shop/restaurant.
I have no idea what time the place
opened, or if indeed it did ever open, but
at 6.05pm it was still reported as not
being open. I had a very strong
inclination to get a kebab dinner, and if
for no other reason than to (usually) end
up with a nice low blood glucose reading
in the morning. In the end I chose another
place to order from. They were physically
nearer home, and I expected an earlier
delivery than I got.
The estimated time for delivery was
something like 6.45pm to 7.35pm, and the
delivery was just a couple of minutes
before 7.35pm. That was fair, but still
annoying. The meal was delivered in a
strong paper bag, and the kebabs came in
compressed cardboard boxes instead of the
usual styrofoam. One odd thing is that the
meat was between two whole bits of pitta
bread. I had a chicken and a lamb shish
kebab, and I don't think I can fault the
meat.
The salad was disappointing. It
came in cardboard tubs with plastic lids.
My one complaint is that the cabbage and
onion, being the main ingredients, were
too finely chopped, and would have been
easier to eat with a spoon, other than
that, there was nothing wrong with the
salad. My main worry was the chilli sauce.
It was far from hot, and I think it was a
sweet chilli sauce made with syrup - a lot
more sugar than is ideal for me.
As well as the three Star Treks I
also watched a repeat episode of Secrets
Of The London Underground last night. As I
say, it was a repeat, and so there were no
revelations, but it was still interesting.
I went to bed straight after it finished
at 9pm, and I think I was fast asleep very
soon after that. I seemed to sleep solidly
for maybe two hours before I woke up for
no good reason.
It is an odd thing I have
experienced before, and probably nothing
to do with my injuries. It felt like I had
had a full night's sleep, and was ready to
get up. In the past I have often remained
in bed, tossing and turning, and feeling
like I would never get back to sleep
again. Last night I chose I different
idea. I got out of bed, and sat in front
of my PC reading stuff (and looking at
pictures). After 30 or 40 minutes I began
to feel tired, and went back to bed. There
was no tossing and turning, and I think I
fell asleep in 5 or 10 minutes.
From then on I seemed to sleep
quite well with only a couple of
interruptions such as getting up for a
pee. In the last hour(s) of sleep I had a
most entertaining dream. Almost everything
in it was inspired by stuff I had seen
during the day - including some good
pictures of vintage cars taking part in
the annual "old crocks" London To Brighton
car rally. Some the dream may have been
inspired by my walk through the park after
dark, but it didn't feature any
drunkenness or falling down !
The first bit of dream I remember
was walking through the park, towards
Ladywell. The light was curious - more
like twilight than darkness. Before long I
was aware of a sound behind me. Looking
around I saw two vintage cars, one was a
three wheeler, coming towards me. I step
off the path, onto the grass to let them
pass, but both did a quite fast U turn
before reaching me, and headed away.
A minute later another vintage car
approached, and stopped near me. I hadn't
been aware of it until then, but I had my
Canon DSLR camera with me, and a flash
gun. I called to the driver and warned him
I was going to use flash because itw as
dark, and he gave his full approval, as
did the driver of a second car who pulled
up to "pose" for me. Having taken a couple
of pictures I saw that there was what
looked like a vintage train in a siding
(which has never existed in reality) of
Ladywell station.
I never did get to the train
because I was distracted by the park
cafe. I noted several woman in
vintage outfits as part of the general
vintage feel of the occasion. They said,
or I was told (it is all a bit unclear
this morning) that they were going to
re-enact scenes from the Folly Begeres
(which I can't seem to spell) and do a
topless and nickerless can can. To my
great annoyance I think I woke up before
they started, and before I had my one
chance to be an amateur pornographer !
That was sad/annoying, but waking
up did have some good plus points. It was
very obvious that I was feeling a lot
better, and was healing well. The most
annoying pain, that being the (presumed)
bruise at the base of my spine, was very
attenuated, and unless I was very
careless, it was, for the first time in
several days, not painful to sit down
(provided I hit the right spot first time,
and didn't wiggle around !).
There was less good news about my
blood glucose readings this morning. The
only significant thing I ate before dinner
was a single can of soup for lunch, and a
few small snacks during the day should
have been harmless, and yet I got a wide
range of blood glucose readings, and none
was as good as hoped, and one was rather
high. The Sino Care meter gave a reading
of 9.3mmol/l. That was well under the red
line, but still far higher than ideal, and
rather odd for the next day after a kebab.
the other two meters gave better, but
still a bit higher than hoped, 8.6mmol/l
and 8.1mmol/l. The latter reading was
closer to what I had hoped for.
Healing a battered body, or an ill
body, often plays tricks with the bodies
blood glucose control, and that could have
been the case here, but my suspicion still
fall on the rather useless chilli sauce on
my kebabs last night. I think I am going
to give that place a miss in future. While
my blood glucose may be a bit high, I do
feel quite good this morning. I am
obviously not fully healed, but almost all
the pain has faded to nothing unless I put
pressure on quite a selection of tender
place. The very worst thing this morning
is something I was aware of last night,
but didn't see the full affect until this
morning. The graze on my left knee is now
looking very scabby, and I think the scab
broke open while in bed, and I have a
couple of mild blood stains on my bed
sheet.
There are a few things I would like
to do today, but maybe the first should be
to get that bloodied bed sheet soaking in
bio detergent after I have had a shower. I
must admit I am not looking forward to
doing any laundry today, but needs
must.....unless.....unless..... I think
that bedsheet is showing wear, and
becoming rough. Maybe I might just throw
it away rather than battle getting out
blood stains. It still has some from some
previous misadventure. I think it is only
Poundstretcher quality, and maybe it is
time for a new sheet.
Of the things I want to do today,
one is what I wanted to do yesterday, and
that is to go to Tesco to get some
shopping. I had been hoping I might get a
few bits from the Tesco Express store if I
went there to use the Tesco "hole in the
wall" cash machine. I may get there today,
but I think I'll go for a full range of
shopping from the main store. Once I have
got some grillable meat I can have "fun"
in the kitchen chopping up onions and
cabbage and stuff for a home made kebab
meal.
