Yesterday was one of those days
when the weather forecast kept changing.
Very early versions predicted a lot of rain,
but by about 9pm they were saying no rain.
At midday they had decided it would rain
during the afternoon, and it did, although
it was never what you might call heavy rain.
Of course the whole day was very dull, with
not a glimpse of the sun (although I seem to
think that there might have been a minute or
so of watery sunshine sometime in the
morning. It was a fairly cold day with the
temperature only reaching about 8° C
The latest revision to the forecast
has added some hours of sunny spells to
the screenshot above. As well as the
sunshine shown there are now sunny spells
shown from 2pm until sunset. Unfortunately
the temperature still won't go above 10°
C. Rain will start to fall from midnight,
and then through the small hours of
tomorrow. From, or before, 6am, until 2pm
there could be heavy rain. The rest of the
afternoon may be just "cloudy". The warm
and wet air giving all the rain should at
least warm the day up to a max of 14° C.
The BBC weather forecast almost agrees
with all I have written above, except that
they currently say it will only be light
to medium rain tomorrow instead of heavy
rain.
Yesterday was quite a good
day. I was generally feeling ok, and some
of my bruises had changed to a nice yellow
colour. That was good only so much that I
could easily see them instead of feeling
for tenderness, or earlier, obvious aches
for some places.
Apart from a brief tidy up, and
doing a bit of washing up, I had a very
lazy morning, but also for a short time in
the morning, a slightly traumatic time. In
fact that is a gross exaggeration. Paying
my credit cards off is always traumatic
even when the amounts involved were not
huge, and my bank balance is still quite
healthy (albeit helped by my state pension
being paid in on Wednesday.
The highlight of the day was also
very irritating ! It was all about the
usual Thursday afternoon beer tasting with
Michael and Jodie. The irritation was that
Jodie was almost an hour late, and I
didn't have many beers in one of the
fridge that I dared drink without Jodie's
approval. I spent most of the hour waiting
for Jodie by chatting with Michael - which
was both good and bad.
Even when Jodie arrived she spent
ages fussing around making her lunch from
various bits and pieces she had brought
with her, and seeming to completely fail
to get excited about all the new beers I
had bought. As I mentioned recently, many
of the new beers were "dessert" beers made
to taste like rich puddings. Curiously
enough, one of the best was actually a
bottle of caramel biscuit flavoured beer
that I bought from Aldi when I went there
on Monday (or was it Tuesday ?).
We did have several of the new
beers that I had ordered from Beer
Merchants (dot com) and with mixed
success. one beer was just a lager from
one of Jodie's favourite breweries in
Estonia. The brewers there have some
"interesting ideas" ! We opened the can of
lager, and Jodie was very excited until
she tasted it. It tasted weird ! Closer
investigation showed it had been flavoured
with the tips of pine tree branches. It
had a very resinous taste, and i don't
think any of us liked it.
Jodie initially did not want much
to drink because once again she had had a
couple of heavy nights, but it seems we
all aim for the same amount most weeks,
and she ended up sending a message to Alan
(her boyfriend) to say she would be
getting the next train (about 15 minutes
later) because she wanted one more for the
road. It was about 6.30pm when she
left with Michael close on her heels -
except she goes right, and her goes left
after leaving here.
Once they left I didn't even stop
to clear the table before dishing up my
dinner. It was a sort of stew made with
very lean minced beef with cabbage and
onion. There was quite a lot of it,
although the bulk was just gravy. It had
been cooked in several very long sessions
in my slow cooker, but while it was nice,
it didn't seem to take on any magical
qualities. I ate, and drunk, the
whole lot, and felt almost bloated.
That was not good for sleeping on,
and it felt very wrong for someone trying
to control his blood glucose, and as a
secondary thing, maybe a bit of weight
control. I would have to wait until the
morning to get the result of this, and it
was a long wait because I didn't sleep
well. I went to bed straight after Star
Trek: Voyager had finished, or soon after
8pm. I read for a while, and then
struggled to get to sleep.
I had several periods of insomnia
during the night. I suppose they were not
much longer than 20 minutes, but that can
feel like a long time in the dark. Maybe
the only consolation was at least one good
dream, although ultimately it was not
good. The thought police would say my
dream was tantamount to child porn, but
because I was the child I don't think it
counts. I was dreaming I was about 15
years old, with the hormones raging. I had
someone managed to seduce a much old,
"obviously" experienced woman, who was
probably about 20 years old.
So far, so much like the fantasies
I had when I was barely a teenager, but
there was a catch I could not foresee, and
my brain is an utter bastard for dumping
it on me. We had about a 20 minute period
of privacy to do what we desired most. it
got off to a good start, but that was when
my bloody brain sent an idea rattling down
the ages, and inflicted on my very much
younger self the affliction that the poet
once described as "taking all night to do
what you used to do all night". I never
achieved what I most desired in the dream
because our time had run out, and I had to
stop before the glorious climax.
Well I guess that was bad luck, but
the morning brought better luck when I
checked my blood glucose readings. This
morning I cracked open a brand new
container of 25 test strips for my Sino
Care blood glucose meter. This time all
three meteres were in close agreement, and
all were good. The Sino Care meter
still gave the highest reading, but it was
only 8.2mmol/l. The Nexus GlucoRX meter
said 8.1mmol/l, and the Contour meter said
a really nice 7.7mmol/l.
I had expected slightly worse
readings than that after what I ate and
drunk yesterday, but I suppose nothing
stands out as being that
awful.....although there were two cans of
orange chocolate flavoured beer that could
have been very suspicious. I think the
more important thing is that I have
finally come very close to fully
recovering from my injuries from falling
down after getting drunk as a lord on the
Wednesday of last week.
Today I am tempted to go out in the
sunshine, and I may well do, but only to
get some shopping. I can't believe it will
ever happen, but I am thinking of going
out tonight for some gig photography.
There is a gig on tonight at the Bromley
Bricklayers Arms. The 320 bus stops almost
outside it, and the bus stop to get home
again is only a couple of minutes walk
away. The best thing is that I don't think
I'll enjoy the music so I can snap away
for half an hour and go home again !
