Yesterday was cold and overcast.
Through the day there was complete cloud
cover ranging from some white clouds to dark
grey clouds. However, it stayed dry. The
temperature only rose to 8° C, and that only
for a few hours.
Today is going to be a lot like
yesterday. It will be cloudy all day,
sometimes with white cloud, and sometimes
with grey cloud, and once again it should
stay dry. Unfortunately it will be even
colder than yesterday. The forecast from
both forecasters (Met Office and BBC) says
it will be a constant 6° C until about 7pm
when the temperature will fall until
tomorrow morning when it will hit just 3°
C. Tomorrow may feature just light
coloured cloud, but it will still be
enough to completely block the sun. It was
also be an even colder day with just 5° C
forecast. The following days will be even
colder, but we might not have to worry
about snow until the 16th of the month,
but that may only be sleet, plus that is
so far into the future that the actual
weather will probably be unrecognisable
from such a futuristic forecast.
My conjecture that
yesterday I was over the head cold I had
the day before seemed to be correct. I
can't say I felt that wonderful, but maybe
that was just boredom. The reason for that
was partly because I didn't want to
stretch myself while still
recuperating....or something like that.
Yesterday morning I wrote that I
would probably have a lazy day. The reason
was that I hoped to not trigger some sort
of relapse, and part of that prescription
was not to go out into the cold air. The
latter idea might have been good or bad.
Sometimes some fresh air can be good to
blow out the cobwebs, but I thought that
should only apply when, at a minimum, it
was bright, sunny and cheerful. It was
neither of those.
One of the few highlights yesterday
was opening, and eating two cans of soup
for lunch. When opening a can of soup is a
highlight of the day then you know that
life has become pretty tedious. Another
highlight was a short snooze in between
quietly laying on my bed, reading. The
best highlight was dinner time, but that
was slightly muted because I didn't give
it enough time in the microwave, and some
of it was barely tepid.
As a quick aside; as I write
this there is some unscheduled weak and
watery sunshine filtering through a tiny
gap in the clouds. On a day when no
sunshine at all is forecast, it feels
rather wonderful even if it seems to
carry no heat into my bedroom, and it
only lasted a minute or two.
I must admit I had been looking
forward to my Indian takeaway - part 2.
The main course was actually a large side
dish of mixed vegetable curry that was
supposed to go with the chicken biryani I
ate the day before. It went well with a
portion of fried rice, and 4 onion bhajis.
It must be years and years since I last
had a real onion bhaji, and they were just
as yummy as I remember them, although I do
admit I remember them as being a lot
bigger (but maybe the size depends on the
individual restaurants).
Yesterday evening I found an
assortment of stuff on TV to amuse me.
Once again I shunned QI because I didn't
like the guest panelists, and I kept the
TV off until that was over, but turned it
on again to watch Have I Got News For You.
I think it was a bit earlier that I
watched a couple of programmes on the
Blaze channel. I think I now think of it
as a comedy channel. The two programmes I
saw some of were about silly theories of
alien visitation. It is the sort of
programme where someone who is supposed to
be an expert declares that "this is a
rock. It was probably made by aliens, but
I have absolutely no proof of that",
although the latter bit is usually unsaid.
I think it was just after 10pm when
I went to bed. I read for maybe half an
hour, and then spent the next half hour
trying to get to sleep. Once I was asleep
I seemed to sleep well again, although at
3am (I think) I decided to turn the heater
up full because I was feeling a bit cold
(it was quite a cold night). Once again I
didn't seem to wake to have a pee more
than once or twice, and so I expected my
blood glucose readings to be moderately
low again this morning.
One thing I did do during the night
was to dream a lot. All I can remember was
a series of dreams on a common theme. I
can remember the theme, but not so much of
the details of each dream. One oddity was
that the dreams had at least two different
endings. The basic theme was that I was
meeting a girlfriend. It was loosely based
on one I once had, and I still know her in
so much as we still exchange an occasional
message.
The first in the series of dreams
was set at home, but sometimes it was my
own home, and sometimes it seemed to be my
mum's house. I was there with the
girlfriend, and the intention was to get
"very intimate", but a mate there too, and
refused to take the hint to get lost. In
what may have been the next dream we
decided to go to a pub by a station so we
could have a drink, and then I could see
the girlfriend onto her train home.
In the next dream the male friend
had thankfully gone (or just wasn't
there). It seemed to be getting late, and
so it was best that the girlfriend should
stay overnight, but in separate beds in
the same room (I think they may have been
single beds). The next thing that
happened, although logically it could have
been in the morning, was that my mum came
into my room, and saw both beds occupied.
Mum was a bit straight laced, and
"suggested" it wasn't a good idea to share
my bedroom with (to her) a strange woman.
At that point my younger sister came into
the room brandishing a mobile phone, and
asked my mum if she knew what was going on
in the night. She them played a poor
quality video of the girlfriend
"pleasuring me" in various ways. I was
obviously pissed off about being grassed
up, but mostly because I could not
remember it happening !!
It is at this point that my
memories of the following dreams seemed to
have faded away except for a lingering
memory that there were two different
endings to this series of dreams, but I
just can't even remember enough to
reconstruct some sort of story line
from some fragments. I can only assume
nothing exciting like more sex happened.
That could be the sort of thing that is
worth remembering in the hope it might be
a seed for a future dream.
My hope, based on not peeing much
in the night, that my blood glucose
readings might be good was almost
fulfilled this morning. Two of the meters
returned very similar readings, and those
reading were very average/typical. The
Contour meter read 8.4mmol/l, and to my
surprise the Sino Care meter read
8.5mmol/l. The one that was different was
the GlucoRX meter. That failed on the
first attempt because I think there was
not enough blood left from my finger
prick, and it threw up an error message. I
tried again with a nice fresh squeeze of
blood from my thumb, and it read a very
good 7.2mmol/l. That was remarkably good,
but in one respect all were remarkably
good after having an Indian takeaway for
dinner. I think I shall be using
that restaurant again - and not just
because it seems moderately cheap when
ordered direct instead of ordering via
Just Eat with the markup.
With the temperature only 6° C
during daylight hours, and even lower
later, I don't think I will be going out
for pleasure today - not even if we have
more unscheduled sunny spells. However, I
think I probably need to go out shopping
in Tesco today. I had enough for one more
healthy dinner in the fridge, but after
that I starve unless I go to Tesco.
Actually, that is not quite true. I do
have some frozen food, and I had a lot of
canned soup, plus stuff like biscuits and
cheese I could eat, but meat and green
vegetables makes for a more reliable
dinner - usually. One other thing I may do
today is a bit of laundry.
