Yesterday was bright, but
there was almost no sunshine, if
indeed there was any sunshine !
There was quite a cool wind
blowing which made 10° C feel very
chilly.
I suspect The Met Office
weather forecast, as shown
above, has got it wrong. The
latest revision has reduced the
amount of sunshine today. On the
other hand The BBC forecasts
loads of sunshine from sunrise
to sunset. Looking at the sky as
I write this I can see a
covering of very patchy, thin,
mist like cloud. That could
attenuate the sun from time to
time, but it won't stop it. The
extra sun in the BBC forecast
pushes up their temperature to
10° C, while The met Office only
reckon on 9° C at best. Tomorrow
could see thick cloud and 12° C,
but the BBC says medium cloud
and a possible 13° C.
Yesterday was
another of those days that
started good, but ended bad.
Actually the morning was almost
bad as well. After writing all
yesterday's scribble I lay down
to rest my eyes, and got a bit
carried away. I had my shave,
shampoo, and shower a bit late,
and ended up getting a later
train to the pub.
Fortunately that later
train still gets me to the pub
within a minute of 1pm, and that
could have been important if
Michael had taken up my
suggestion of taking a break
from his hospital vigil, and had
joined me in the pub. He didn't.
I still had a good time in the
pub. Lots of friendly banter,
and I ended up staying for a
third pint of Guinness. That
seems to be becoming a regular
occurrence now.
I did my usual thing on
the way to the pub - taking
pictures of every train I saw,
front and back when I could.
This train, 707018, was the
train that took me from Catford
Bridge to Ladywell, and more
importantly it was one that I
had never photographed before.
It has been added to my big
spreadsheet of train pictures.
There are now just 2 class 707
trains I haven't got picture
for, and I think they have been
retained by South West Railway
for a while.
On the way home I got a
snap of 707020. I already had it
in my photo collection, but with
a note to say "better picture
needed". The picture above is
still not ideal, but it was
better than the original.
All the time I was out,
except for a few brief minutes
after crossing the footbridge at
Catford Bridge when I could feel
a little discomfort starting in
my chest, but otherwise I felt
fine - once again with another
exception - the wind felt really
chilly as it blew across my
face. Other than those two
exceptions I felt quite good. I
even felt good enough in other
ways, like not desperate for a
pee, and hung around on Catford
Bridge station on my way home to
get snaps of the London bound
train that arrived 4 or 5
minutes after I got off the
Hayes (Kent) bound train.
I managed to keep up a
fair pace walking home, and I
felt pretty much OK when I got
in. I sort of, and sort of
didn't, feel a raging, beer
induced, hunger when I got in,
but I had a plan ready for that.
I had decided I would have rice
crackers with cheese, with some
added sliced onion for added
flavour, as my post boozing
lunch. Apart from the lingering
taste of onion until it was
replaced by dinner flavours, I
enjoyed those crackers.
One minor problem is that
I was almost 4pm when I had that
late lunch, and I was then
starting to feel like I needed
my afternoon snooze more than
the need to prepare dinner. A
couple of hours later I had to
cobble together a dinner with
minimal preparation time. I
started with a small instant
noodles to keep me going while I
cooked a couple of fish burgers
and some oven chips in the mini
oven/grill.
It was a very bad
selection for dinner, and I am
paying the price for it this
morning. More about that later.
I ate some of my dinner while
watching an episode of Star
Trek: Enterprise. Later on I
would watch more TV until ending
on an amusing QI. I headed for
bed at 10pm, and read for about
20 minutes, possibly less. I
hadn't realised it, but I only
had one short, 2 or 4 pages
maybe, chapter to read to finish
the book.
I think I fell asleep
pretty quickly after I put the
book down, and turned out the
light. The only bit of dream I
can recall from last night
happened in the first block of
sleep I had. All I can remember
of the dream was that it
involved cooking on a griddle.
There were three different,
potato based things I cooked on
that griddle (or was it hotplate
? It was certainly a flat
surface). One potato item was a
potato waffle. Another was like
a slab of mashed potato, and the
other was a pate made from
coarsely grated potato. The only
other bit I can remember was
drooling as I watched them cook
!
I seemed to sleep in two
very long blocks of sleep, and
then a couple of shorter ones as
getting up time approached. That
seemed unusually good, and I
didn't seem to be waking up for
frequent peeing - which is sort
of surprising considering that
last night's junk food dinner
caused my blood glucose to soar
into the danger zone.
This morning the Contour
meter read 10.1mmol/l - just
into the danger zone. The
GlucoRX meter read a slightly
safer 9.5mmol/l. The Sino Care
meter really rubbed it in with a
reading of 10.7mmol/l ! With
readings like that it is back to
fasting, but only until
lunchtime. I'll be tasting beers
with Jodie this afternoon, and
I'll need to have something to
line my stomach. The real
difficulty will be after the
drinking - will I be able to
stick to something very safe
after getting drunk ???? All
will be revealed tomorrow !
