It seems The BBC won the
battle of the weather forecasts
yesterday. There was far more
sunshine or sunny spells than the
meagre forecast made by The Met
Office. It did little for the
temperature which only reached 9
or maybe 10° C. That didn't feel
that warm, although indoors the
sun felt very warm. The day ended
with a very colourful sunset.
Red sky at night is
supposed to be a sign of good
weather the next day, but last
nights very colourful display
seem to have come to nothing
today. Both forecasters I check
say it will be a cloudy day,
although The BBC predict light
grey cloud, and The met Office
say very dark cloud. What
neither predicted was the 30
seconds of weak watery sunshine
just now. The sun seemed to find
a somewhat misty gap in the
clouds. It doesn't look there is
much chance of any more sunshine
getting through those clouds.
The only positive thing is that
today could be 12 or even 13° C.
Tomorrow looks like it might be
identical to today, but with one
slight twist - The BBC say very
dark clouds, and The met Office
say lighter grey clouds.
There were
good and bad things about
yesterday. One good thing was
that I went shopping in Aldi.
One bad thing is that I went
shopping in Aldi ! I got some
good and useful things in there,
but I also gave into temptation
and bought stuff I shouldn't
eat.
The bad/naughty stuff
from Aldi formed my lunch. I
wanted something semi
substantial to line my stomach
before a beer drinking session
in the afternoon, but I could
have made a better choice of two
packs of ready made sandwiches,
and a couple of cheese and ham
crunchy things (that looked like
fishcakes). The sandwiches were
chosen to have the least amount
of sugar of all that were
available, and they were nice
and tasty. The ironic thing is
that the worst thing for sugar
content, the crunchy things,
were a disappointment - even
with 30% off (the main reason I
bought them.
Later in the afternoon,
when Jodie finally arrived late
after missing her train again,
we had some beers that tasted
very sweet. One was a beer
brewed using lumps of fruit, ice
cream, and energy drink powder.
Apart from the lumps in it, it
did taste sort of nice, but I
dread to think how much sugar
that had in it. There were
a couple more that seemed to be
slightly sweet.
I took a brief break from
drinking to pop outside to get
this snap of the glorious
sunset. By tradition weather
lore it should have heralded a
nice day today, but it let us
down badly. I also took a few
minutes break to put some
sausages into the mini
oven/grill. Once Jodie had left
I dished those sausages up as
the single item for my dinner.
After all the sugar bearing
stuff I had during the day, I
wanted something relatively
sugar free.
The only trouble with
eating sausages by themselves is
that I had greasy sausage
flavoured burps for the rest of
the evening, and even into the
night. I had to take a couple of
antacid tablets because one such
burp contained acid reflux. It
was the case that I had over
done the booze during the
evening, and the chances of
vomiting were quite high, but
fortunately nothing worse than
the one hit of acid reflux
happened.
The wheels came off when
I discovered I had a big liking
for Scapa whisky. I think until
last night I had only had the
odd shot glass full at the end
of a beer drinking session as a
"one for the road". Last night I
rather over did it ! Fortunately
it gave me some good sleep, but
I am unsure how much. I think I
may have been asleep by 9.30pm
last night, and I slept like a
log until gone 1am.
It was during that first
lot of sleep that I had an odd
dream. I dreamed that Jodie was
staying here like she used after
late night gigs 20 or 30 years
ago. Although in the dream it
wasn't quite the same because
the room, with two beds, was
more like my mum's old living
room. The first big oddity was
that because Jodie is a
vegetarian her bed had a
caterpillar and several flies on
it. They were apparently
attracted by all the green stuff
she eats.
When I went to bed I was
disturbed by a sort of
scratching sound. It sounded
like a mouse in one corner of
the room, right by my bed. It
appeared to be coming from
behind a pile of books in a
corner. I thought that the books
were in quite a tight pile that
wouldn't leave any room for a
mouse. I was trying to work out
what was going on because the
noise was very persistent. At
that point I woke up, and
realised what I was actually
hearing, maybe a bit distorted
as it was imported into my
dream. It was the rattle of the
fan in my fan heater !
It wasn't long before I
was asleep again, and I think I
slept non stop until about
4.30am. From then on I got very
little sleep, although I did get
up very late on purpose. My
morning routine was very
different this morning. I didn't
take my morning pills until
almost 10am instead of typically
between 6 and 7am. I still
haven't checked my blood glucose
readings because I decided I
wanted to drink a full litre of
tap water to make sure I was
hydrated enough to not make my
blood glucose readings seem
higher than they really are. I
have almost finished my one
litre now.
I have now just checked
my blood glucose readings, and
to my surprise they are all very
reasonable. All three meters
gave similar readings. I got
8.3mmol/l, 8.4mmol/l, and
8.5mmol/l. The last one was from
the usually grumpy Sino Care
meter. This time it was not so
grumpy. I have no had any
breakfast, but I think I deserve
a light lunch - possibly a Greek
style salad - I bought all the
ingredients for it in Aldi,
yesterday.
One significant thing
yesterday was that as far as I
can remember, I didn't do a
single poo. I have no idea why
that should have been, but I do
that this morning I have made up
for it with three very
productive visits to the toilet.
That improves my odd for
enjoying today more, although I
doubt I will be doing much
today. The weather does not
entice me out, and I am not sure
if I am over my hangover.....
although I don't seem to feel
too bad just sitting here typing
away. I think I imagine myself
having a quite day doing a lot
of reading.
