Yesterday was very similar
to the day before except for some
drizzle very early in the morning.
There were a few short sunny
spells despite the forecasts
saying none at all, but the
forecasts were very nearly right.
The forecast temperature was 12°
C, but I feel sure I saw at least
13.5° C.
Today is another day when
both forecasters deny any chance
of sunshine, but we have just
had a few sunny spells, and
indeed the sun is shining now,
and I can see lots of blue
patches in the sky. Maybe today
will feature sunny spells, or
maybe it will revert to the
gloomy forecasts. Both
forecasters predict just 11° C
today. Tomorrow may not feature
any sunshine, but rain is
forecast for the evening. It
should be slightly warmer, and
13° C is predicted.
I don't think
I can describe yesterday as
particularly good, but neither
can I describe it as
particularly bad. I think I have
to use that word that school
teachers used/use in end of term
school reports when they could
think of nothing else but to
describe the pupils progress as
"satisfactory".
On reflection, there was
a good bit of yesterday, and it
was around midday when I took a
walk to the little supermarket
on Catford Bridge. It was
almost, but not warm, and there
had been a few sunny spells
earlier, but I missed them. On
the plus side it was almost a
pleasant walk. If there was one
negative thing about it, it was
that I wanted to walk there in 4
minutes, but it took about the
usual 6 minutes. I just could
not force myself to go any
faster.
I had several things on
my imaginary shopping list, and
I got every thing I hoped to
get, plus one more item. The
plus one was a handful of long
red chillies - the type that are
only warm, but still flavourful.
On top of my list were instant
noodles, and I was happy to see
they had plenty of Polish
beetroot flavour instant
noodles. i bough quite a few of
them, plus a selection of other
flavours.
Another thing I was particularly
after was another pack of the
sugar free chocolate chip
cookies I had bought from there
about a month ago. This time I
made a point of consulting the
nutritional information when I
got them home, and under
brighter light. As hoped for,
they are definitely almost sugar
free. I had already guessed one
of the bits of information -
"Consuming excessive amounts can
have a laxative effect". Four,
and maybe 5 of the cookies seem
just about safe, but 6
definitely causes extra visits
to the toilet ! The other thing
of interest is that they are
Polish. The name and styling of
the packet made me think that
might be Turkish.
As well as stuff for my
own delight, I also bought a
couple of things for Michael for
the next time I see him -
whenever that might be. I bought
him a strong garlic sausage, and
a packet of Kabanos. The final
thing (that I almost forgot) for
my delight was a couple of
Turkish sausages. I had them for
my lunch. Sadly I bought the
wrong ones. One make they do
tastes really great. The other,
the one I bought, is good, but
not wonderful.
The walk home was
"satisfactory". I didn't feel I
was going too slow, but I once
again couldn't manage to go any
faster. Neither going to, or
coming from the shop caused any
aches and pains, although I
guess my legs did feel a bit
stiff. Once home, I cooked
the Turkish sausages, ate them,
and then laid on my bed to read
and relax.
I am not sure if I was
fully asleep, or if it was just
a very light snooze, but the
next thing was that I heard the
doorbell, and it was Jodie
arriving for our beer tasting
session. We had the usual mix of
good and bad beer, although we
frequently disagreed one which
was which ! Some of the
time was taken up by cooking.
Initially it was Jodie cooking
her lunch of recycled pizza with
added cheese and onion cooked in
the mini grill/oven. She had two
lots to do, and it was all a bit
time consuming during which we
didn't drink any beer.
Later on I took time away
from the booze to get my dinner
cooking. The end result was that
we didn't drink all that much,
and even when having to drink
almost all of the last bottle of
a delicious 9.99% malty ale, I
finished the session feeling
almost sober. For some reason,
maybe because I was too sober, I
didn't even fancy finishing on a
small whisky. Jodie left
at about 6.15pm to get the next
32o bus to Bromley where she was
meeting Alan in The Star And
Garter.
As soon as Jodie left I
ate my dinner. It was basically
a beef casserole with a bigger
selection of vegetables than
usual It had a little bit of
onion in it (left over after
Jodie had sliced off half of it
for her pizza slices), some
broccoli and cauliflower, 3 or 4
sliced long red chillies, and a
few baby potatoes. it should
have been nice, but I didn't
cook the diced beef for long
enough to tenderise it. it was
rather chewy.
Although I declare I was
just about sober, I can't
remember what it was I watched
while I ate. I know it was off
the hard disk with my collection
of recorded TV programmes, but I
just can't remember what it was.
I definitely remember not
wanting to watch any episodes of
Filthy, Rich & Catflap, not
did I want to watch any "Allo
Allo", Yes Minister, or an
Avengers episode. What I do know
is that later on I watched an
episode of QIXL, and an edition
of Have I Got News For You on
live TV (albeit both repeats).
I also know that I looked
at the whisky bottle a few
times, and decided not to have
any. maybe that was not such a
great idea because a few may
have helped me to fall asleep
earlier. I lay in bed, trying to
get to sleep, for at least over
half an hour, and it could have
been over a full hour before I
went to sleep. Once I was asleep
I seemed to sleep well, but I
had some quite imaginative
dreams.
The first dream set the
scene for some later dreams.
That fist dream was a bit SciFi
like. I was with a few other
people, and we had to start a
big (12 to 15ft) disk spinning.
Once it was spinning fast enough
some RAM Jet engines started,
and spun it even faster. That
was enough to generate enough
power to power up some
magnetrons to beam out powerful
microwaves. Ultimately, the
centre of the disk was an atom
bomb. The spinning made the atom
bomb explosion concentrated into
a tubular spinning vortex of
special, but not described
quality (or use, although it may
have just been a test shot).
The next dream was a sort
of continuation of the first,
but the location had jumped to
something like a dockyard. I
wanted to know what had become
of that vortex of a nuclear
blast. One suggested theory was
that it might somehow follow the
curvature of the Earth. Another
was that it was blast straight
to the horizon and then on into
space. There was an American
warship in the dockyard, and I
decided I had the authority to
ask the captain for news of the
experiment.
I walked up to a group of
sailor who were larking about,
and ask where the captain was.
They pointed to one of their
number who was in fits of
giggles. I said "what, the loony
?", and he answered, "the loony
at your service". After he
calmed down he said that he had
had no reports of the nuclear
blast going around the Earth,
and it must have dissipated in
space. I am unsure if it was the
same dream, or another, but I
ended up in conversation with
one of the sailors who was a
radar operator.
I can't remember how the
conversation started, if indeed
it did start - being in a dream
it could almost have started mid
sentence. We were talking about
radar, and mentioned my did was
involved with radar in the last
war - which for me meant the the
second world war, but the sailor
thought I meant the Vietnam war
(or actually any of the many
wars the Americans started). He
started describing some radar
equipment, and suggested my dad
might have been familiar with
it. I said no, because my dad
died in 1968, and hadn't touched
any radar stuff since 1945 when
he was de-mobbed.
This morning I really
hoped my blood glucose readings
would be good because I was
looking forward to eating some
of the instant noodles I had
bough yesterday. They were only
just good enough to enjoy the
two packets of tomato flavour
instant noodles. Both the
Contour and GlucoRX meters
closely agreed with readings of
8.8 and 8.7mmol/l respectively.
That is in the OK-ish area, but
lower would have been a lot
better. This morning it was the
turn of the Viva Chek meter to
be the arbiter for the next 7
days. It went right out on a
limb, as it too frequently does,
and returned a figure of
9.6mmol/l - an awful lot higher
than the other two, and close to
the danger zone. I decided to
ignore it.
Today the most important
thing is to call the pharmacy,
and request my next repeat
prescription. I have left it a
bit late because if I ever get
through this morning (I have
been trying for the last hour)
the earliest they will have my
repeat prescription ready to
pick up will be on Wednesday -
the day when I will be taking a
few of the last drugs of the
previous prescription.
I'm not sure if any of my
possible ideas for today include
going out, although if the
sporadic sunny spells continue
it could be a possibility. One
thing I hope to do is to edit
one of the experimental
recordings of TV made by my TV
set which I mentioned yesterday,
or the day before. As previously
mentioned, I have no need for
the recordings, but I want to
edit at least one, to remove all
the adverts and stuff, and see
how it looks.
