Yesterday was like several days recently - there were some sunny spells in the morning when the weather forecast said it was going to be gloomy all day. Much of the afternoon was dull, but sometimes the clouds changed from grey to white. It was still a rather cool day, and some gusty wind would have made it feel cooler still. The forecast temperature was for a maximum of 11° C, but it might have made 12° C for an hour or so.
mostly dull
Today could see that odd bit of weather shown for 10am above - white cloud, dripping rain, while the sun looks over the edge and smiles.....or something like that. Of course in the latest revision 10am is shows as dark clouds with light rain. There will be far more copious rain this evening, and it could start as early as 6pm as drizzle. These cloudy days are usually caused by warm damp air blowing in, and today that warm damp air will keep the temperature up to 13° C for a lot of the day. Tomorrow is a bit of an enigma. The Met Office says white cloud for almost the whole day, and just 8° C. The BBC predicts sunny spells all day, but agrees with 8° C.

I achieved quite a few useful things yesterday. The most hated thing, although it wasn't too bad at all, was to pay off my credit cards. I almost went out shopping, but in the end I didn't, although I did order a few things from Amazon. Sometimes things seemed quiet enough to do some quiet reading, and at other times I was actually productive.

One productive job, and I think it was still morning when I started, was to edit down a single episode of The Avengers as recorded from my wide screen TV. I was very pleased with the result. The first part of the edit was to use the title sequence from another episode because the recording I was working on had missed the first 10 or 15 seconds of it. That, and clipping out the adverts went very smoothly.

Although I was very satisfied with my work, it was all a bit pointless because I already had a good recording of the same episode. On the other hand, it was good practice for potential other stuff. For instance I think I recorded one of the two episodes of Secrets Of The London Underground last night. When I set the timer I don't think I realised there were two episodes shown back to back. I hope I recorded the first because I only watched the second episode live.

I did a bit of physical activity yesterday - I hand washed a pair of lounge pants, a single t-shirt, and two pairs of underpants. Once again I sort of surprised myself by doing it all in one go. I have suspicions that I have recovered from an illness I didn't fully realise I had a month or two ago. I knew I had a surplus of aches and pains for some time, but with no real other symptoms I didn't know whether it was a seasonal thing or an illness. Maybe it was seasonal, and these milder days we have had for the last week or so, has been the real cure.
ham salad
Another task yesterday was to do some washing up in the kitchen, including all the beer glasses from Sunday afternoon. Once I had washed all the plates and cutlery and stuff, I started to prepare my evening meal, aka dinner. It was to be a variant on my previous Greek inspired salads. This one, as pictured above, substituted rather a lot of basil leaves for the coriander, and I added smoked German ham.

The problem with the ham was that it was already thinly sliced when, ideally, I wanted cubes of ham. It was only later I remembered I had a can of ham, although maybe I keep forgetting it because I don't expect it to be very nice ham, but I'll try it sooner or later. Maybe the next time I'll include a side view of the salad bowl. It is not obvious it is a moderately deep bowl, and not a slightly dished plate.

I feel sure there was something else I did before I went into complete lazy mode in the evening, but somehow I can't seem to recall what it was ! I am sure I didn't go out anywhere, although I did have a shower in case I went out, and I was considering going out to buy a big pack of kitchen towel. In the end I decided more kitchen towel could wait several days if necessary.

At 5pm I started to watch Star Trek: The Original Series, but it seemed like I had only watched the episode being shown a week or two ago. I found another channel showing some old crap, possibly about ancient aliens, and watched that instead while at the same time readings some news stuff from the internet. At 6pm I watched Star Trek: Enterprise while eating my salad. I think my salad was better than the episode being shown, but it wasn't too bad.

I watched a few other things before going to bed at either 9 or 10pm (probably the latter). I read in bed for maybe half an hour before turning out the light. One unusual things, compared to most nights this winter, was that it seemed warm enough to turn the heater off maybe an hour before going to bed, and I kept it off until I turned it on low at around 1am. The silly thing is that I turned it on because I was feeling too warm under the duvet, and wanted to leave a leg and/or arm outside, but by then it was too cold for that.

I think it was in the first few hours of sleep I had another very odd dream. I have no idea why I was there, or even how I got there, but I was visiting a space station. It took the form of a half globe, or something like that, but definitely not like the International Space Station, or any SciFi inspired space stations. I can really only remember the situation rather than much of what happened.

This space station had an air leak, and that presented them with an odd difficulty. They didn't have the finance to do a proper repair. I went away, and came back what seemed like minutes later with a roll of duct tape. They said they couldn't use that because it would make themselves look very cheap. I said no one would see it, and so why worry about it. They agreed. The duct tape made a perfect seal across the air leaks, and everyone was happy.

I was not sure just how healthy my "ham salad" would be. I was worried that the boiled baby potatoes in it, plus quite a few baby tomatoes, might raise the sugar level a bit more than was desirable. To a limited extent this was true because my blood glucose readings were not as low as hoped. On the other hand, they were lower than yesterday's "sort of alright" readings.

The Contour meter read 8.4mmol/l, and that is slight below average. The GlucoRX meter read 8.2mmol/l, and that was second lowest for this month so far. The Viva Chek meter decided to give a reading quite close to the others, but still higher at 8.6mmol/l. I really need to leave out either the tomatoes or the potatoes, maybe both, but I think the tomatoes should take most of the blame. On the other hand, maybe a change of tomato type might be good enough. Baby tomatoes can be quite sweet, but other, admittedly blander, tomatoes might be safer.

Today I am partly constrained in what I do. I am expecting an Amazon delivery today. It includes a couple of things ordered last week, and a couple of things ordered just yesterday. I think there is zero chance it will come before 1pm, and more likely very, very much later. That means I should be safe to go out to Tesco to buy more salad ingredients, and maybe non salad ingredients. I have no idea what I will do for the rest of the day.
