Yesterday was generally
bright, and I think I can just
about recall a brief sunny spell
or two. It was a fairly cool day
with the temperature only reaching
10° C.
I feel sure the single
heavy shower shown for 8am
didn't happen. The ground
outside looks dry. The sky looks
mostly clear, and that is why
this morning started off so
cold, but it also means the sun
is shining as I write this. It
even looks like we will get full
sunshine now, instead of having
to wait until midday for sunny
spells to turn into pure
sunshine. Sadly, all the
sunshine will still only raise
the temperature to 9° C. Only a
light breeze is expected today,
and so that 9° C may not feel
too cold (but still not warm).
Tomorrow sees a return to rain,
but while the BBC say lots of
it, the Met Office just shows
light rain in the afternoon. The
temperature will probably be at
least 10° C.
There were
two notable things about
yesterday, and a whole lot of
nothing more to write about.
Maybe it also notable that I had
a shower on a day I probably
needn't have bothered (I was
going nowhere, and seeing no one
- as far as I knew). maybe that
little bit of doubt was the
reason for it.
After my shower I started
to wash three t-shirts and three
pairs of underpants. Although it
is possible to cram more into
the big builders buckets I use
to do my laundry, those 6 items
seem to make full load for two
reasons. One is that leaving a
bit of space to move the stuff
around in the soapy, or rinse
water, seems more efficient.
Secondly is that any more can
get a bit tedious and tiring. I
did it all in one go, and hung
it on the big clothes horse to
day aided by a fan heater on
low.
The more notable thing I
did was to fast after my
breakfast until dinner time.
Once upon a time that was
routine when I was at work, and
distracted from food. It meant
using some sort of will power
yesterday when I was often
bored, and had to try and find
distractions from my rumbling
stomach. Reading help a lot, but
only because it was a nice
simple book that it was easy to
get lost in.
The difference that fast
made is best illustrated with
the above extract from my
spreadsheet of blood glucose
readings. It is the bottom row
that is of interest - 9.30,
9.40, and 10.8. The first two
numbers are shown in pink, and
that means they are just under
the danger line, but
unacceptably high. The 10.80 in
bright red shows it to into the
danger zone. That last reading
is almost ignorable because it
was taken with the often insane
Viva Chek Meter.
To the right of the chart
are the figures 6.1, 6.8, and
8.1. The first two are shown in
green because they are about the
most perfect I can achieve these
days. The third figure, also
taken with the Viva Check meter,
is left with no colour code
because readings starting with 8
are so typical and so sort of
neutral (although I aim for, but
very rarely achieve, readings
starting with 7). The red
and pink readings were taken
before breakfast, and the
greens, and uncoloured were
taken just before 6pm after
fasting since breakfast.
I had got my blood
glucose down lower than
expected, and I was able to
enjoy my dinner without having
to worry about it. It didn't
need a lot of worry anyway
because it was a chicken salad.
This time I cooked the chicken
perfectly, and drained off all
the fat before cutting it into
small bits, and adding it to a
salad. I will admit that I did
have some sugar free "Fibre"
biscuits as a sort of dessert
after the salad.
I'm almost forgetting
that there was one other thing I
did to help pass some time in
the afternoon. It was to take
the USB thumb drive out of my
big TV in the front room, and
edit several of the recordings I
had made from it. It is now sort
of routine to cut out the
adverts that mar the recordings.
Usually they come out perfectly
seamlessly. The only major
annoyance is that so many cheap
Freeview channels mess up the
credits at the end by squeezing
them to one side, and showing
promos for later programs. It is
so messy, and bloody annoying.
Despite having about 5
recordings I could have watched,
I only watched a little bit of
TV last night. By 7.30pm I was
reading in bed, and I don't
think it could have been much
later than 8.30pm before I was
asleep. Apart from waking up
every 2 to 3 hours for a pee,
which is odd considering how low
my blood glucose was, I seemed
to sleep very well. I can only
just remember a very short
period, perhaps 10 to 15
minutes, of insomnia during the
night. I thought I was
going to have something to say
about the dreams I had, but I
find I can't remember a thing
about any of them.
I was up a little earlier
than usual this morning. I think
it was very soon after 6am. I
was quite keen to check my blood
glucose this morning. In one
respect I was disappointed
because I hoped it might have
been lower, but 7.8, 7.7, and
8.1mmol/l is still pretty good.
This morning the final figure
was from the Sino Care meter. On
this occasion it was a slightly
higher figure, but still roughly
agrees with the other figures.
For the moment I have part
retired the Viva Chek meter. i
may still take the occasional
reading if I am curious, but I
can no longer trust it's
readings.
One thing I hope happens
today is that I get notification
that the beer I ordered, and
accidently paid for next day
delivery when it should have
been free, has been despatched,
and in theory should arrive
tomorrow. One thing that I think
definitely has to happen today
is that I shall go shopping in
Tesco. I think I will be buying
a lot of salad stuff - but not
too much because it doesn't have
a long shelf life.
Today could be one of the
best to go for a walk in
sunshine. In fact it could be
the only day for the next week
or two when there is some
sunshine. It would be great for
photography, but on the other
hand, with only 9° C, and that
not before early afternoon, it
will still be rather cold. It
could be worse than cold - it
could be cold and hot ! Boiling
hot inside a black coat that is
soaking up the heat of the sun,
but cold enough to numb my ears
and fingers. Maybe I will,
probably I won't.
On the subject of going
out.....On Saturday I wished I
had been feeling like going out
to see at least half an hour or
more of a gig. On the plus side
it was Chain, and it was one
occasion when for some or more
songs, Chris would be playing
with the band again. On the down
side it was in The Partridge pub
in Bromley. Normally I dislike,
and usually avoid gigs there
because it is usually too
crowded, and the light is
usually bad for photography. I
expected it to be relatively
poorly attended because there
was so much competition in the
local area, and that was a
potential reason for wanting to
go. I am now glad I didn't go
because I subsequently heard it
was actually extremely well
attended. Far too crowded for my
liking.
