Yesterday
started very nice, but by 3pm it
started to rain. Some heavy rain was
forecast, but I seem to remember
that mostly it was light, but
persistent rain. The day was
slightly unusual in that the warmest
hours were 8 and 9pm with the
temperature peaking at 18° C. The
reason was warm air blowing in from
the west.
Despite the warm(ish) wind last
night, this morning started at just
14° C. The main feature of today's
weather is very strong winds. Most
hours, until 8pm when the winds should
die down, will see winds of 40 to 45
mph. The wind will keep the clouds
broken up, and there should be loads
of sunny spells today, and the
temperature should feel mild despite
it only peaking at 18° C - however the
latest revision to the forecast now
shows the high as being just 17° C.
The headline for tomorrow says "Sunny
intervals and a moderate breeze".
There is not a lot to add to that
except to say the afternoon high may
be 18° C.
Yesterday seemed to
be quite a pleasant and even enjoyable
day. Of course there were always set
back like another attempted long phone
call from Lee, but at 11am I forced
the call to an end because I had so
much to do. For one thing I had to try
and think up captions for all the
pictures I showed yesterday.
It was around midday when I
finished writing yesterday's piece,
and I had so much more to do. I was
expecting visitors so I needed a
shower, and I also washed my hair.
Once I was clean, and dressed, I had a
pile of washing up in the sink to do,
as well as other cleaning/tidying in
the kitchen and dining room. I
wondered how I would get it all done,
but somehow I did it with time to
spare.
No a lot happened then until
Jodie arrived for the beer tasting.
She rummaged through the two small
beer fridges and said there was not a
lot in them that I would probably
like, but also said that she and Alan
would definitely enjoy some of those
that I would hate. I think the fist
can Jodie opened I would use her word
to describe such beers - minging !
After a while we joined by fluffy cat.
He was after food, but I saw my
neighbour put food down for him in her
garden only a couple of hours later.
I still fed fluffy cat, now
tentatively identifies as a Maine
Coone cat, or at least very, very
similar. That identification was made
by Alan who joined us an hour or two
later. Fluffy cat is a very friendly
cat, and he delighted in having 3
friends there to talk to - me, Jodie
and Alan. He almost sat on Alan's lap,
but like most cats, would much prefer
it is you worse a dress instead of
having a big gap between the legs.
At one point, after I had gone
to rinse out a couple of glasses,
Fluffy cat jumped up on my chair, and
made himself very comfortable. I only
verbally told him it was my chair, and
of course he completely ignored me.
What he could not ignore was that
there is a big gap under the chair
back, and upon having a big wriggle,
probably to show off to his new
friend, ha fell down the back of the
chair, and I was able to sit in my
own chair again.
With the cat and Alan there I
was able to have a conversation while
Jodie ignored us all to scroll through
her phone looking for pictures of cats
or squirrels. It made it a much nicer
session being able to have some sort
of conversation. At this point I
remember that I have not mentioned my
pre-drinking, stomach lining, lunch.
It was two "Kimchi burgers". They were
very weird, and it was hard to tell if
they were cooked enough.
Those burgers may have been
vegetarian because they seemed to
based on mashed potato with other
vegetables mixed in. Some of the
vegetables were quite spicy, but not
really that hot. It was worth trying
them, but I found little pleasure in
them, and I doubt I will ever buy more
of them. I mainly mention them now
because after the drinking was over, I
had "Frikadellen", or basically pork
burgers with a lot of onion in them.
After I had eaten my dinner I
watched some TV, actually quite a few
hours of it. Then I went to bed. I was
feeling like I had made a mistake even
before I went to bed. Once I was
laying on my bed, with no
distractions, I realised the Kimchi
burgers and the Frikadellen were
having a bad effect on me - heartburn
! It was already quite late, but I had
to get up to munch some antacid
tablets. At one point the heart burn
was so strong that I wondered if it
was real heart ache.
The test was to have a squirt
of my anti angina, Glyceryl Trinitrate
spray. Apart from a stinging sensation
under my tongue, and feeling my heart
rate change, (presumably) my blood
pressure dropping, and getting a bit
of a headache, the spray did nothing
more. That proved that it was just
indigestion/heartburn. I chewed a
couple more different antacid tablets,
and also some paracetamol.
At first it seemed that nothing
had happened because it seemed to
happen so slowly, but I suddenly
realised I felt fine, but very sleepy.
Before I could surrender to sleep I
needed a pee, and passed a lot of
wind. I thought just the stink of it
meant that I needed a poo, but it was
just wind (until this morning). I'm
sure it was after midnight before I
fell asleep. I know I got up once for
another quite big pee, but most of the
night passed with no memories or
sensations. I was as good as dead to
the outside world.
I woke up about my usual time,
but I hadn't had much sleep. I did
take a bit of time to weigh myself
after going for a pee, and also
refresh the weather forecasts so I
could take screen shots later, but
straight after I easily managed to go
back to sleep again. I didn't have a
long sleep in, but it was a lot later
than usual before I got up again. I
think I deserved to get up extra late.
This time I went to the toilet
and passed more pee, and also a fair
sized poo. I weighed myself again, a
made that my official morning record.
That showed I had put on just 100gm
since yesterday morning. Just one more
small pee may have changed that to no
increase and possibly a small loss,
but a gain of 100gm is nothing to get
desperate about.
My blood glucose was not as
good as hoped for. All readings were
in the sort of meh ! good enough
region. The Contour meter read
8.7mmol/l. That is a bit higher than I
like, but still acceptable. The
GlucoRX meter read 8.5mmol/l. That
used to be my target until I found I
could often do better, and so is sort
of neither here nor there. The new
GlucoFix meter read 8.1mmol/l, and
while that was the best of the three,
I was still really looking for a
figure starting with a 7 or even a 6.
At the moment I am trying to
relax enough to get my blood pressure
a bit low - which is an impossible
thing to do while still typing. On my
first reading my blood pressure was
130/51. That seems high to me, but the
meter says it is "High Normal", and is
the sort of reading my last doctor
said she would expect (and accept). A
second reading, after almost falling
asleep reading some stuff about
Windows 11, was pretty much the same.
I guess my blood pressure is indeed
"High Normal" this morning.
Apart from a lie down, and
almost certainly a snooze that might
be short or long, I really don't know
what I am doing today - beyond some
simple housework. I do have some
washing up to do, and it would
probably be a good time to wash a few
clothes, but there is nothing I have
to do, and not really anything I want
to do. While the sun is out, and with
only some light rain possible at 2 and
3pm, it seems like it could be good to
go for a walk somewhere, but I have
doubts I will. Maybe today is just a
day for relaxing. Well, that sounds
good enough for me - even if it does
nothing for my weight.
