After a
sunny start, yesterday was mostly
dull - or very dull. During the
afternoon there were some huge,
blue-black clouds to be seen. It
looked like there could be heavy
rain, possibly a thunderstorm at any
moment, but it stayed dry. The
afternoon still reached 16° C like
the last couple of days.
I'm still waiting for the first
sunny spells as promised in the
forecast. At the moment the clouds
look streaky, and maybe a gap will
open up to let a bit of sun through.
If we do start to get sunny spells,
and if we get the promised full
sunshine from 2pm, we could see the
temperature rise to 17° C. It seems to
be about 12° C as I type this at
08:56. Tomorrow could start at just
10° C, but full sunshine is predicted
for most of tomorrow, and that should
get the temperature up to 17° C again.
Yesterday was not
the sort of day I expected. I thought
I might be able to convince myself to
go out for another walk, but that
never happened because of a 6 hour
long phone call from a friend. It was
not the usual gas bag friend, but
another who can also talk forever.
I had finished writing, and was
just finishing my post writing rest
when I planned to have a shower, and
brave the dodgy looking sky to go for
a walk - probably just a short one to
Ladywell and back. At 11:54 my phone
rang, and the 6 hours conversation
started. Some of it was interesting,
and a lot of it was boring. I guess my
friend must be autistic because he
seems to know where every mobile phone
mast is.
He is also a fanatic for fibre
optic connections for the internet. I
can't imagine why a single man needs
the connection capacity of a family of
5 with 3 teenagers glues to the
internet all day. I find my 100mb/s
connection exceeds my needs. My friend
rants on about needing, or maybe just
wanting, a 1 gb/s connection. It would
make downloading a pirated movie very
quick, but it would make little
difference if you were patient. Start
in the afternoon and watch the film in
the evening at about 100mb/s.
By the time the call was over I
had missed my lunch, and it was just
about time for dinner. I had been
planning cheese on toast for dinner,
but that would take too long, and I
had a small ready meal that could be
"cooked" in the microwave in 4
minutes. The silly thing is that I
can't remember what it was. I know I
had some ice cream for dessert, but I
was a bit more careful about how much
I ate this time.
I spent the evening mostly
watching TV - the usual Star Treks and
Have I Got News For You, and this time
also QI (although I can't remember
whether Have I Got News For You was on
before or after QI). It meant it was
11pm when I went to bed. I had got the
thermostat on my heater set about
right while watch TV, and my bedroom
was neither too cool, or too warm when
I tried for sleep.
I think I probably fell
asleep very quickly. As far as I can
recall, I slept very well last night.
I didn't seem to have to get up and
pee more than once or twice - which
seems like a record these days. It
might have indicated my blood glucose
level was not very high. Before I
checked that I had to have my usual
first-thing-in-the-morning pee, and I
think I managed a little poo as well.
For all that I only seemed to have
lost 100gm since yesterday morning.
My blood glucose was fairly
good, but couldn't be described as
low. The Contour Meter read 7.4mmol/l.
That is good, but I supposed I hoped
for an even lower reading. The GlucoRX
meter read 8.2mmol/l, and I guess that
is a little bit good. The new GlucoFix
meter read 7.5mmol/l. That is spot on
my current, self decided, target, and
so has to be described as good. Maybe
these figures are low enough that I
didn't need to pee much in the night.
The important thing this
morning is that I was due to see the
nurse at the group practice at 9:40am
this morning. It was to get put on
Mounjaro the wonder slimming drug. It
still feels like a cop out, but at the
same time I thought I shouldn't look
at a gift horse in the mouth. I was 2
minutes late getting to my
appointment, but that didn't matter
because the nurse was running about 15
minutes late herself. The extra time
gave me time to get my breath back
after rushing to the surgery (possibly
faster than I thought I could manage).
The nurse gave a demonstration
on how the injector pen is used after
checking a few details - including
looking at the spreadsheets I had
printed off for her. She noted that I
had lost almost 2kg since I last saw
her in June or July. I pointed out
that my blood pressure had gone up to
141/54 at the thought of what I was
about to submit to. She thought it was
actually not too unreasonable. At the
end she sent off a prescription to the
pharmacy next door. It was for the
prefilled injector pen, needles for
it, and a "sharps" box for the used
needles.
I then went next door to the
pharmacy. There was no one else in
there, and I was seen almost
instantly. About 10 minutes of
searching later that said they had one
item missing, and I have to go back
there tomorrow when they should have
it for me. Tomorrow I will be giving
myself my first injection ! From then
on it will be the same time every
week, but only once a week. I see the
nurse next month to see how it is all
going. I trust they will send me a
reminder of the date and time. I think
it on the 20th of next month, but I am
unsure of the time even if I correctly
remembered the date.
Since getting home I have had
one single pack of instant noodles for
a late breakfast. I added chilli sauce
to what was already a spicy flavour.
Five minutes later I blossomed with
sweat. I have cooled off now, and that
is just as well because the next thing
I have to do (or want to do - I don't
have to) is to walk through the
park, via the hospital to pick up a
copy of The Metro, and then on to the
Jolly Farmers and a couple of pints of
Guinness.
