What I said about the day before yesterday is exactly what I will say about yesterday - Yesterday started with the road outside looking wet, but there was no rain until about 6pm, and that was only light rain. The afternoon temperature was 11° C.

There were a few times when the sun came out, or at least half came out, but yesterday was another rather wet day. Almost non stop light rain all day long according to the forecast. If today is anything like yesterday, then we could get some hours that are mostly dry. The afternoon should peak at 12° C, and in sunshine that could be almost short sleeve weather. Tomorrow could see a brief blip to 13° C at 2pm, but like most days this month, there will be light rain from dawn to dusk.

Yesterday was quite a good day for a variety of reasons. Expecting deliveries can be a bit of a bore, and means that there is a lot I can't do because I have to keep an ear out for the doorbell. However once the deliveries arrive everything is great, and it wasn't just getting my deliveries that made yesterday good !

My deliveries were of stuff I ordered from Amazon on the 6th February. The first to arrive was some glucose test strips for my Bayer Contour blood glucose meter. They were delivered by Royal Mail. The next delivery was of two items. One was a dozen bottles of hot pepper sauce, and the other was a mixed box of instant noodles. They were delivered by Evri. The final item was a WiFi access point, and that was delivered much later in the afternoon by Amazon themselves - the slowest, latest in the day, deliverer of all !

Another good thing was that I finally finished washing the two medium sized bath towels that took 3 (or was it 4 ?) days to do. I hung them up on the small clothes horse (that folds into a V shape to trap warm air from a fan heater), and this morning they seem to be bone dry.

Keeping an ear out for the doorbell meant I couldn't have any snoozes yesterday, although that should really read that I shouldn't have any snoozes until all my parcels were safely indoors. In fact I did chance a small snooze in the morning, and if I hadn't woken up to pee I might have missed the postman with my Glucose Test strips.

My lunch was a bit experimental. It was basically the extra salad I ordered when I ordered kebabs a few days ago. I added some olive oil, and some crumbled feta cheese. It was almost completely unlike a Greek salad, but was quite nice. I had hoped that all the raw vegetables (mostly cabbage and onion) would be very good for my digestive tract. Maybe it hadn't got there this morning because I didn't get the effect I was hoping for.

My afternoon was spent mostly waiting for Amazon. I guessed they would be one of the last to deliver my parcel. I spent some time reading, both book and on the internet. Finally my last parcel was delivered. It was a WiFi access point to replace one that has died on me. It's temporary replacement was being very weird. Only some older phones could connect to it. I had a possible idea of what was wrong - a configuration error.

When the new access point arrived I gave it a good hard stare. Setting it up would mean connecting via cable to my PC to go into the configuration settings. I decided I might as well do that to the access point that was not fully working. After a few minutes I had discovered the error, and the old access point was working correctly.

The error was not turning on the DHCP server - the server that gives an IP address to anything connecting to it. I made the error of thinking it was like the first access point I had. If the DHCP server was not turned on it would simply pass through the DHCP server in my Firewall. The new one didn't. With the new one now working correctly I have no immediate use for the newest one. It only cost £37, and I am happy to keep it as a spare. I might even set it up ready to use in case it is needed.

It was getting close to dinner time, but I had time to check out the newly configured access point with both my working mobile phones, and also my two, very rarely used, but handy to have, laptops. All worked connected perfectly. While I had the laptops out I topped up their batteries, and one had a load of updates to download (via WiFi) and install.

My dinner was lamb shish kebab. If I could have been bothered I could have fished out all the lamb and heated it up before putting in back with all the salad. Instead I just ate the whole thing cold. It may not have been as enjoyable as it could have been, but it was still very nice cold. With hindsight, a good compromise would have been to take it out the fridge a few hours before eating so it could warm up to room temperature.

I knew it was a bit silly when my blood glucose was too high, but I had a dessert of plain vanilla ice cream after the kebab. It rounded it off nicely.  Sometimes, some ice creams can block sugar absorption in the gut if they contain Sodium Alginate - a product made from seaweed used to thicken stuff like ice cream. I think the Tesco plain vanilla I ate does have some in it, but not enough.

After dinner I did the usual of watching TV until it was bed time. I think it was 10pm when I went to bed, but it seemed to take a long time until I was asleep. I think I did fall asleep for short periods a few times, but it was gone midnight when I seemed to fall into a deep sleep. I have no real idea why I didn't manage to fall into a deep sleep earlier. As usual, I woke several times in the night for a pee. I remember having one dream, and I think it was set in a hospital, but apart from that vague memory, all else has evaporated.

After getting to sleep so late I think I was justified in spending a bit of extra time in bed this morning. I still seemed to get up fairly early. After what I thought was the last pee until I had drunk some more, I weighed myself. It was not good. Fortunately I had another pee in the pipeline, and I did that when I went for a poo. I expected that after all the salad I ate I would have no trouble pooing this morning. I was wrong. Maybe all that salad is still waiting in the wings, but what I passed was more like a house brick. It was very uncomfortable, but maybe worth it because when I weighed myself again I found I had only put on 400gm, which is bad enough, but at least it was not double that as per the first time I weighed myself.

My blood glucose was bad again this morning, but once again all readings were just under the red line. The best reading was 8.7mmol/l, and that is just about passable. The next reading up was 9.2mmol/l, and too high. The third reading was 9.8mmol/l, and that is sailing far too close to the wind. The reason I use three meters is to hopefully get a consensus of at least two of them, but all three were different, and I think there is more to it than meets the eye - it could be the batteries need changing in the meter, although there is no indication of it. It could also be that the test strips are getting a bit old or something.

My plans for today have been disrupted by an unforeseen, rather good thing. My younger sister has ordered some beer for me from her local Devon brewery (the Otter brewery), and DPD are due to deliver it today. As yet I have had no indication of when today they might deliver it. Looking at past deliveries, some are before midday, and some have been late afternoon.

My original plan for today was to go for a walk in the park. Tomorrow I have a hospital appointment, and it would be good to see how such a walk might feel. The appointment is for a gastroscopy - endoscope down the throat, and into the stomach. The first one I had was very unnerving, but it turned out to be very simple. I hope they can manage that again. The main problem is that I can't really eat anything after lunch until the procedure is over, and I can only drink plain tap water from, say, mid evening. I am expecting my blood glucose readings to be considerably better tomorrow morning after that enforced fasting.

My appointment is for 9am and so I will not have time to write anything tomorrow morning, but I may write much later in the afternoon....or maybe not. It is my plan to go straight to The Jolly Farmers after the procedure (unless it is all over a lot faster than I expect). I think I will get a couple of sausage rolls from the baker next to the pub before I pour Guinness into an empty stomach. I may well get two sausage rolls for Ayse (my favourite bar maid) as well. I haven't seen her for a couple of months now, and she must think I have deserted her - unless Kevin got word to her that I was in hospital for much of the time.
