The heatwave took a rest
yesterday. It was bright and sunny,
but the afternoon temperature only
reached 24° C. That almost felt cool
by comparison, although indoors it was
still very hot and stuffy. The
temperature fell to 16° C at midnight,
and last night almost felt cold.
This morning felt quite chilly, or
at least the cold wind blowing
through my bedroom window onto my
unclothed body chilled me. It was
17° C at 6am, but initially hazy,
but growing stronger very fast,
sunshine is warming things up, and
this afternoon may see 29° C. From
3pm the sunshine will give way to
sunny spells, and there is a tiny
chance of rain at 8pm, and also
9pm, but 10% and 18% is a
negligible risk of rain. It should
be another fresher feeling night,
and tomorrow may be a cooler day.
The afternoon may reach 24° C, but
there will only be sunny spells in
the morning and late afternoon.
From 1pm to 4pm the sun may be
hidden behind clouds.
After reporting on my walk
the day before yesterday, I
thought I would be going out
again, but for some reason I
didn't. I had a mostly lazy day,
but I did do a few useful things.
One useful thing was to
finish washing the towel I had
left in soak overnight (because it
was too hot to finish the job the
on the same day). Getting the big
buckets out of the bath meant I
could have a shower, and wash my
hair. Both were important if I was
to go out. After some sweaty days
I was probably stinking, and in
great need of a shower. My hair
(or what is left of it these days
- still more than Bill Bailey
currently has, and I am 10 years
older than him !) was nasty and
greasy because of all the sweat in
it.
My original plan was to
have a shower, and go out shopping
to Tesco, but not until I had had
my usual lie down after writing
(2,174 words yesterday - which
takes a fair bit of typing fo an
amateur like me). Once I relaxed
on my bed, reading for a while,
and having a short snooze, I
wondered what all the fuss was
about. I could always go to Tesco
today, and so I went into advanced
lazy mode - until lunchtime.
I made a special effort to
eat something light, and modestly
low calorie for my lunch. It was a
tried and tested recipe of corned
beef on plain rice crackers, with
a couple of slices of pickled
chillies on top. This morning I
had some sort of confirmation that
it had been a good choice. I am
not sure why, but it gives the
feeling that I have had a fair
sized meal after I have eaten it.
That is a rare sort of feeling for
me.
One thing I did in the
afternoon was to go to
Aliexpress's web site to see if
there were any updates about my
recent (9 days ago) order for
spare batteries, and a USB powered
charger for my Canon 600D camera.
The information seems slightly
vague, but it shows some slow
movement. A few days ago the order
had reached a local airport - I
assume local in China. Previous
orders have shown the flight
number of the plane carrying my
order to the UK, but no flight
number has been give yet. Apart
from my desire to fondle my new
stuff, it is lucky I am not in any
great hurry for those batteries. I
do have two batteries, and I think
both are in good condition, for
the camera. It is not as if I am
going to to a big festival type of
gig and will be using the camera
all day, and so in that respect
there is no rush, plus if I was
going to a festival type gig, with
half a dozen or more bands
playing, I would be taking my big
Nikon camera.
The afternoon passed fairly
smoothly, and soon dinner time was
approaching. Before I had dinner I
decided it would be useful to wash
my hair to save time this morning.
The water from the shower was only
a rather nice luke warm, and that
felt quite refreshing.
Back to dinner, and I
wanted something "nice" for
dinner, and it was to be the rack
of spare ribs that I already had
in the fridge (not freezer), and
had been meaning to eat for the
previous 4 or 5 days. The ribs are
tightly sealed in a thick plastic
envelope, and I think they are
safe for a long time when chilled.
I cooked them up, and tried a
small diversion from the way you
are supposed to cook them
(actually it is more like deep
heating them because they are
already cooked). The instructions
say to pour on the supplied
marinade 5 minutes before the end
of cooking. I forgot, and poured
it on after I had put the rib on a
plate ready to eat them. The
marinade seemed just as good like
that.
Now I must admit that if I
had some ice cream in the fridge I
would have had ice cream as a
dessert, but I have no ice cream
at the moment. Instead I had a
small packet of sugar free vanilla
wafers. It seems it was a wise
decision even if it was the only
thing possible.
The one thing different
about last night was that the
temperature was dropping outside,
and there was a light breeze
blowing in a little bit of cooler
air into my bedroom. By the time I
had watched the usual TV, and read
for a bit, I realised I didn't
need a fan to help me stay cool. I
seemed comfortable enough just
laying there uncovered. Later on
in the night, maybe it was around
4am, I actually felt worse than
cold - a bit chilled - and pulled
the duvet over myself.
As I type this the window
is open, and the odd bit of breeze
I feel, feels chilly. Of course, a
month or two ago, I would consider
the current temperature mild
enough for shorts and no coat, but
the recent hot sunshine has
spoiled me. My care in eating did
little for my weight, but this is
one of those morning where I can
only fart instead of having a
proper poo. Nevertheless, I am a
whole 100gm lighter than
yesterday, and if I did have a
good poo that might be 200gm, but
I have eaten breakfast now, and so
I can't weigh myself again until
tomorrow.
That careful eating did have
a very good effect on my blood
glucose. Two of the readings were
7.6 and 7.9mmol/l. It is just over
a week since I had two sevens on
the same day, and so I am rather
pleased with those readings. The
third reading was quite different
for some reason I can only blame
on the meter itself. Maybe I might
try fresh batteries, although I
think it does have a low battery
indicator. That anomalous reading
was 8.8mmol/l - quite
different to the other two
readings. It is why I don't rely
on a single meter.
I have a vague plan for
today. Once I have uploaded
today's electronic diary I will
have my usual lie down, and that
often ends as a short snooze. I'll
then have a shower before going
shopping in Tesco. I will be
looking for more low sugar/calorie
foods, but there will be a few
things that will not be, and could
be described as unhealthy,
but.....sometimes....you just have
to.
Once the shopping is done,
and I probably have some sort of
lunch, I have a lot of washing up
in the kitchen sink, and it
includes the beer glasses for this
afternoon's beer tasting session.
So those glasses are very
important. I expect the beer
tasting session will be with Jodie
and Michael, but we could get a
visit from Alan or Mark. I hope I
have bought some suitably safe
food to eat when I hit the post
drinking frenzy !!!
