The weather really changed yesterday. It
was much cooler, just 17° C according to the
forecast, but maybe as high as 20° C in reality,
and it ranged between being slightly lightly
overcast to heavily overcast. Oh, it rained too,
but not until much later than forecast. It was
probably just barely enough to water the garden.
It seems today will be medium
overcast all day, but apparently it should
stay dry. It is going to be cooler than
yesterday, and while an afternoon temperature
of 17° C (according to the latest revision) is
still "tepid", the wind blowing through the
open window of my bathroom was damn chilly at
7am ! There is a very small chance of rain
today, but it is expected to stay dry.
Tomorrow will probably be a brighter day, but
no warmer, and although the percentage chance
of rain is no higher than today (when it won't
rain) there will probably be a light shower or
two tomorrow. Looking forward as far as
Wednesday 17th, which is as far as the
complete fiction of the long range forecast
goes, it seems summer is just about over. Many
wet days are forecast, and when it is not
raining, sunny spells are the best we can hope
for. At least on some days the temperature may
slightly exceed 20° C.
Yesterday had it's
good points, but I felt mostly bored and
almost miserable. Getting some shopping from
Aldi in the morning was the high point of
the day, but after that I found I couldn't
relax t the degree I was aiming for. I think
I did suggest yesterday morning that I would
probably end up doing a few odd jobs if I
couldn't reach the level of laziness desired
- which ultimately was probably to sleep all
day long. In fact I am not sure if I had a
single snooze all day.
Yesterday morning I did list a few
things that I really had to do. The biggest
of these was to clean up the kitchen because
it was smelling stale in there. I did a lot
of overdue washing up, emptied the waste
bins (normal and recycling), and disposed of
some peelings and left over food into the
garden waste bin where it can compost. There
is one task left that I will probably do
today, and that is to clean the lid of the
waste bin in the kitchen. I think I'll hose
it down when I water the garden today.
I seemed to do a fair bit of
housework yesterday, and it sounds like it
should have taken up a fair bit of time, but
I still seemed to have an awful lot of day
left with nothing to fill it. My housework
started with tidying up the spare bedroom.
It seems unlikely that Patricia will be
staying here this year, but she has hope
that maybe restrictions might be lifted
before the end of the year. I have been
trying to keep the room clear, but
ultimately a fair bit of stuff was dumped in
there - most of it on the bed. It included a
few framed photos that I have been meaning
to hang on a wall sometime. It is a bit of a
messy display because it has grown
"organically", but I added a couple more
photos to the wall outside the bedrooms.
Someday I must sort these photos and
other stuff, into some sort of order, or at
least try and straighten them up, but at
least for now that are out of the way.
From the spare bedroom I moved down
to the back room. I did a little bit of
tidying up in there, but mainly I hoovered
the floor. Before I could commence hoovering
I had the unpleasant task of emptying the
cyclonic (possibly) dust collection
cylinder, and clear the air filter of dust,
hair, and who knows what. My original idea
was to hoover upstairs, particularly my
bedroom, but I started in the back room, and
then went on the do the hall and the front
room. I must confess there were quite a few
ancient crumbs in the carpet I had been
meaning to hoover up for some time.
By the time I had done the back
room, the hall, and the living room, I was
sweating. I am sure I was sweating more than
when walking up the steep hill in blazing
sunshine the day before. One obvious reason
was that indoors there was no wind to cool
me. There was also that the air seemed a bit
humid as I waited for the rain to fall. It
was well overdue at that time, and I did
wonder if it might brew up to a
thunderstorm, but when it did start to rain
it was a bit of an anti-climax. Just barely
enough to spare me the need to water the
garden. Anyway, I felt I had done enough
hoovering for one day.
I filled in lots of spare time just
reading yesterday, but that was not enough
to take my mind off food. As I think I
confessed yesterday, I had eaten a tub of
standard high calorie/high sugar ice cream,
and I really wanted to be very careful what
I ate after that. I did manage to hold back
eating anything but a handful of hazelnuts
as a snack until dinner time.
Dinner was to be "Punjabi skewered
chicken", but I also had a nan bread that I
didn't want to waste. I happily waste pitta
bread because it has no worthwhile flavour,
but nan bread can be very tasty. I couldn't
actually taste much of the nan bread because
I smothered it in Marmite (a little too much
Marmite with hindsight) and melted cheddar
cheese. It wasn't exactly the healthiest
meal, or part meal I have had ! In one sense
it was actually a good idea that I had it
because the chicken turned out to be
ordinary "chicken tikka", and there was not
a lot of it. In fact it it was a tiny
serving when compared to the huge tandoori
mixed grill I had the night before.
Considering I was bored a lot
yesterday, I still couldn't get excited by
the two Star Trek episodes I half watched
last night. I think I turned off the second
half way through. Once again I was in bed
quite early, but only to read. Like the
night before, I lost all track of time, and
I don't really know what time I turned the
light out, but it may have been as early as
10pm. I am fairly certain I fell asleep
quickly last night. Unlike the night before
I had not drink a lot of beer and squash,
and so I was less disturbed by getting up to
pee in the night.
One thing that did disturb me, and it
was possibly before midnight, was crunching
my ribs when I turned over awkwardly. For a
while I wondered if it was the start of
"chest pains", but a couple of Ibuprofen,
and being careful about how I lay in bed,
sorted that out. The only thing I can
remember sometime towards the morning, was a
strange dream that ended in a sort of
genealogy of my cousins on my fathers side.
I cannot remember why, but I had to remember
who they all were. Somehow I managed it !
This morning I guess I was pleased
that my blood glucose level was sort of OK.
It was not as low as I like, but it wasn't
very high. The best thing was that it was
not as high as I feared. There was less good
news about my weight. I seemed to have
gained several hundred grams. It was not
surprising after that ice cream, and that
heavily adulterated nan bread. Perhaps I
should think myself lucky that it was no
worse.
I ought to go and burn off some of
those extra calories on a long walk today,
but I won't be doing that - at least I don't
think I will. If the day gets any brighter,
and it is quite bright at the moment, and
not nearly as grim as the forecast
predicted, I might reconsider. My immediate
plans include finishing washing some
t-shirts and underwear that I put into soak
a couple of hours ago. I think I need to do
a bit of tidying up in the living room. I
have stuff all over the place from when I
was doing some VHS to digital video
transfers. I might even still hoover my
bedroom. One other thing I am contemplating
is going out to buy some beer. If Tesco is
not busy I might go there, and if it is busy
I will go elsewhere.
I could have shown this yesterday,
but I forgot ! It is a collection
of short video clips taken while
on my walk between Knockholt and
Chelsfield stations. None have any
great artistic merit. In some ways
it is just a personal reminder of
the day.
