Lockdown day 69 07:36 BST It was really nice yesterday. The temperature was a warm 23° C in the afternoon, and apart from a slightly dull start to the day, it was a very sunny day with a brilliant blue sky. After a couple of days where I didn't feel like going out, yesterday was different in ways that I just cannot explain. Admittedly there was the complication of my guts not feeling stable the previous two days, and two days ago the weather failed to excite me. Yesterday it felt right to go for what could have been quite a long walk. I didn't really know quite how far it would be before I set out, but I had a figure of about 4 miles in mind. I started my journey with a short train ride, and if I were to include the quarter of a mile (and possibly a little further) from home to the station it would take the total up to around that four miles. It was a pleasant walk, and the only thing that spoiled it was a stupid decision to buy some "full fat" ice cream. The shop I was in didn't have the reduced calorie/sugar stuff that seems to mostly harmless at the end of a long walk. I describe all this, plus show some pictures taken on the walk, and include some thoughts and observations about today in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 68 07:52 BST It was sunny, and moderately warm yesterday. The afternoon temperature just about hit 21° C, and that about all that can be said about yesterday's weather. Yesterday was another day when I only went out to get some shopping. It was almost another lazy day, but I did do a few useful bits of work. The one thing I didn't seem to achieve was eating in such a way as to keep my blood glucose level as low as I would like it (which is a few points lower than is acceptable to the hospital diabetes nurse). I am still waiting to go to the toilet, and so I haven't been able to take a comparative check of my weight, but it seems unlikely that I have lost any more weight. There is a lot more about my day yesterday, and my feeble attempt to convince myself that I will go out on a long(ish) walk today, in my archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 67 07:38 BST Yesterday turned out to be less sunny than forecast. In one respect there was quite a lot of sunshine, but it often seemed to be a bit weak and hazy thanks to a lot of high wispy clouds. The afternoon high of 21° C sometimes didn't feel that warm, although maybe that was just me because it seemed to feel warmer early in the evening/late afternoon. My potential trip to the seaside came to naught yesterday. My planning showed that the train service to Hasting was running something worse than a Sunday service, and I could easily spend more time travelling to Hastings than actually being there ! I ended up just doing a very short walk to Poundland and back, some reading, a bit of creative stuff, and a lot of being lazy (although lazy is mostly covered by the time I spent reading). There was not a lot to say about yesterday, but I still seemed to write a lot of words, and threw in a sack of punctuation. You can read it all in my archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 66 08:17 BST Yesterday felt warm, but sunshine was in short supply. It wasn't gloomy, but rather dull compared to some of the sunnier days we have had recently. There was one period of full sunshine, but otherwise it was just occasional sunny intervals. The afternoon temperature was a comfortable 23° C. Not going out yesterday was a good idea. It allowed my feet to heal a bit after two previous days of giving them a good pounding, and it gave me time to do a few jobs that needed doing, although I have to admit my productivity was not very high. I spent the day relaxing and doing a few small jobs that needed doing here a bit of housework, and some video editing. That latter was not "needed", but it was definitely something I wanted to get done. You can view those videos, and read a bit more about my day in my archive page for today. It also has a possible prediction about what I might do today. |

Lockdown day 65 07:41 BST The weather was rather nice yesterday. There was a lot of sunshine until early afternoon when some wispy clouds appeared, and these would occasionally dim the sun a bit. It felt nice and warm, but it didn't feel hot. It didn't feel like it reached the later predictions of 25° C, and was probably more like the earlier predictions of 23 to 24° C. I think my first bus ride since lockdown emboldened me to jump on a train to take me to a walk in the countryside which I hoped, and was, much, much, much less crowded than Greenwich was. I opted for one of my favourite walks - Eynsford to Shoreham - not because it is terribly exciting, but the journey to and from it is easy, and the walk itself is almost easy. I say almost easy, but it does incorporate two hill climbs that are a bit taxing if taken at modest speed. I measured this walk as 3.666 miles, and although I don't usually do it, I could two half miles to that - home to Catford station, and then back to home at the end of the walk. I describe bits of the walk, and illustrate it with picture, plus the usual boring commentary about my eating and sleeping in my archive page for today. |

26th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 64 08:12 BST I can't complain about yesterday's weather. It was bright and sunny, and it was getting close to hot. I think the afternoon temperature reached 25° C. If I have one complaint it is that later in the afternoon some cloud bubbled up, and occasionally blocked the sunshine for a few minutes here and there. Yesterday was a rather good day that turned out to be very different to how I expected it to go. It was so good that it featured some jubilant feasting...or maybe I just had a valid reason to feel hungry. That extra eating did mess up my blood glucose and weight this morning, but before then I had a pleasant surprise when I got on the scales. It was all because I ended up walking far further than I predicted I would. When I set out I had doubts I would go any further than Ladywell, but I did. I covered new ground, and saw sights I had never seen before (except maybe for from a moving train or bus). The full details of my walk, plus some pictures to illustrate it, and how I came to ruin my diet, can be read in my archive page for today. |
Monday
25th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 63 09:04 BST The sunny spells forecast for yesterday did happen, but the intervals between them seemed very long, and then there were maybe 5 hours in the middle of the day when the sun didn't shine at all. The overall effect was that yesterday seemed a dull and gloomy day. By the afternoon it was probably more then "mild", but under that grey sky 21° C, if indeed it actually got as high as the forecast said it would, didn't really feel even mild at times. At one point I was tempted to turn the heater on, but it never quite felt that bad. |
Sunday
24th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 62 08:03 BST The weather forecast for yesterday was hopelessly wrong ! Every time it was revised it would show the first hour as sunny spells, and subsequent hours as sunny. The reality was that there were sunny spells for most of the day, but there were periods when it was just overcast, and it even rained a couple of times ! I'm not even sure if the temperature reached the predicted 18° C, although it wasn't far off that. Probably the most important thing I did yesterday was to get out for another walk. This one was only just over 3 miles, and apart from some abrasion on one toe, possibly a problem with a sock, it felt easy and very routine. I got some shopping on the way back, and then had a mostly, but not entirely lazy afternoon and evening. As usual, there is a more comprehensive write up of my date, with a selection of pictures, on my archive page for today. |
Saturday
23rd May 2020 |
Lockdown day 61 08:29 BST I can't say that yesterday was cold because it wasn't, and yet it was often dull, and there was a strong wind that made it feel a lot cooler than the actual temperature was. As far as I could see, the afternoon temperature fell a bit short of the predicted 22° C. I don't think it even quite reached 21° C. The one thing that was definite, and that was that it stayed dry despite occasional claims in some revisions of the weather forecast (really only the very early revisions). Yesterday was a day when I did a lot, but nearly all of it was mostly inconsequential....actually that is probably not a good way to describe it. Several things I did ended up as annoyances. One such annoyance was giving my DVD recorder another chance. It almost worked in as much as the recorded disk was playable in the machine it was recorded on, but it had failed to produce the correct file structure to play on another machine and PC. I think I now may know why, and how I can possible bodge a repair. I also wasted a fair bit of time trying a cheap and nasty, Chinese made digital video recorder. That can work OK, but crashed 9 times out of 10 ! Anyway, the good news is that all my meters say I am very healthy this morning. It's just a shame that I don't feel very healthy, but today, unlike yesterday, I will force myself out for a walk. A longer version, with more details about yesterday, and just what those reading were that prove I am healthy even if my brain thinks otherwise, is to be found in my full archive page for today. |

22nd May 2020 |
Lockdown day 60 08:91 BST Yesterday was another gloriously hot day like the day before. The earlier predictions of thunderstorms came to nothing, and this was quite obvious even before the forecast was revised. There were a few fluffy clouds in the sky, but not a hint of anything like a thundercloud. I think the afternoon temperature reached 26° C, and possibly 27° C. I had several ideas for what I might do yesterday. The original idea was based on there being thunderstorms in the morning. I assumed a fair downpour would limit, or ideally eliminate any queues outside the supermarkets, and I was hoping to go shopping in Aldi. That idea was eliminated upon seeing the revised forecast early in the morning (although at 6am, or thereabouts, there was still the possibility of one short thunderstorm that I may have been able to use). My revised idea was that I might go out for another walk. I had even considered jumping on a train to Beckenham Hill station (less than 9 minutes away), and have a wander around Beckenham Place Park. I didn't do that either. It was one of those mornings where time seemed to slip by in a way that it never did while I was at work. Before I knew it, it was gone midday, and at that point I hadn't even had a shower or washed my hair. What I ended up doing was to take up an offer than came out of the blue - a phone call from friend and neighbour Michael to drink beer in his front garden while observing the 2 metre spacing. I enjoyed at least 90 minutes in the hot sunshine, and than a bit later a slightly gluttonous takeaway. For all that I still lost a little bit more weight, and my blood glucose is good this morning. The long version, with extra details, is on my archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 59 09:24 BST Yesterday was gloriously hot. Non stop sunshine raised the temperature to around 27° C. I was not really sure if I should go for a long walk yesterday after the battering my heels took the day before, but it seemed awful to waste such a hot and sunny day. I devised a plan that might work, and in a way it did. The first part of the plan was to wear what I thought would be comfortable trainers. That was based upon the idea that they were identical in style and make to a pair that seemed to be very comfortable for walks of 1.5 to 2 miles. They were branded Lee Cooper, and I wore them out. I replaced them with an old pair of 95% worn out hiking boots that, with the correct socks, were even more comfortable. The trainers I used were a white version of the blue Lee Cooper trainers that I wore out because they seemed so comfortable for 1.5 to 2 miles walks - i.e. to the pub, sometimes the long way round to see Angela, and then back home again. Yesterday that white pair, that I had been holding back for summer, were comfortable for maybe 3 miles, but were agony for the last half mile ! As usual there is more about this, plus pictures and video of my walk - which was at least 4.5 miles - plus stuff about my health, my dinner, and what I may do today, on my archive page for today. |

20th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 58 08:19 BST Once the early morning cloud had cleared, yesterday was a hot and sunny day. The afternoon temperature was around 25° C, and possibly slightly more. It was just like summer - even to the extent that it didn't get that cool in the evening. I think I may have decided that I would definitely be going out for a long walk yesterday before I went to bed the previous night. Not only that, but I had decided I wanted a change of scenery, but most of all to do a bit of hill climbing. I followed up on this plan by walking to the top of Mountsfield Park, and then I walked back down the middle of the park, back to the entrance, and took the other path to the top - just for (masochistic) fun. Actually I find that as I continue to practice these things become easier. The only let down was the crumbling Converse Trainers I decided to wear. My heels are still sore this morning. There is a description of my walk with pictures and video, plus pictures of my now blossoming window boxes, and how dinner went wrong all on my archive page for today. |
Tuesday
19th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 57 07:32 BST After midday yesterday was nice and warm, but not hot. Before midday it was bright and warming up, but at 7am it was only 11° C - which wasn't actually cold, but you wouldn't want to stand still for more than a minute or two without a coat. The afternoon temperature reached about the 23° C that was forecast. I don't recall non stop sunshine in the late afternoon, and even early afternoon may not have been 100% sunny, but it is safe to call it a very sunny day. For unknown reasons I was feeling generally OK yesterday, and with the forecast warm sunshine I had to get out for a walk. I decided not to push myself to walk 4 miles or more, although maybe I should have. On the other hand by not pushing myself I felt more comfortable at the end of the walk, and I wasn't far short of 4 miles - I walked about 3.6 miles. (The "Simply Walking" app on my phone suggested it was 3.8 miles, but it had some glitches on the GPS trace). The one thing I didn't achieve was another nice low blood glucose reading this morning. It was very average, and while it was perfectly good, it was nothing to get excited about like the readings on the previous few days. The full description of any non boring bits of my day, complete with maps, pictures and a video, plus a bit about this morning, is all on my archive page for today. |

18th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 56 08:59 BST Two weather charts today because I didn't write anything yesterday. Saturday was not a nice day. There were a few times when the sun managed to get through the clouds, but it was mostly a grey day, and it felt quite cool. The afternoon temperature didn't seem to quite reach the 16° C that was forecast. In sunshine even that could have felt good, but not when it is dull and almost gloomy. The forecast for
yesterday, as shown above, turned out to be about
right. The sunny periods were rather short at times,
and because the sun is now high in the sky, those
short periods of sunshine didn't shine into my front
room. In consequence it didn't always feel that warm
when lazily laying on my bed - which I did a lot. For
a while my thermometers said the temperature actually
reached 20° C, and it seemed to feel warmer in the
garden than it did indoors.
I didn't write anything yesterday because initially I felt too tired, and too hungover. Later in the day I just couldn't be bothered. So today I attempt to remember the very few things that happened yesterday and the day before. Both days, for different reasons, were days when I couldn't motivate myself. On Saturday it was because the weather just failed to bring out any enthusiasm, and yesterday because....well, I'll describe some of that, and other bits I remember from the last two days in my Archive page for today and yesterday, and the day before ! |
Saturday
16th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 54 09:51 BST Yesterday turned out to be sunnier, and warmer feeling than I expected. The sunshine seemed to change to sunny periods later than the weather forecast predicted, but it may have been an illusion caused by the intervals between sunny periods being very short....or something like that. Maybe it was just that it seemed very sunny at time when it most mattered. One thing is for sure - it felt very warm in the sunshine around midday ! The afternoon temperature must have come close to the prediction of 17° C. Today started very
dull, and the latest revision to the forecast does not
even include any sunny spells until about 5pm this
afternoon. The earlier sunny spells in the early
morning revision of the forecast, as above, have been
replaced with "light cloud". Nevertheless, it should
be a slightly warm day with a high of 16° C - not that
different to yesterday. Tomorrow see the start of
rising temperatures, and a return to much more
sunshine. The temperature could reach 19° C tomorrow,
and will rise further for the next few days.
I didn't think I felt up to a long walk yesterday, and yesterday morning I mentioned that I thought I might try for just 2 miles or less. Once I got walking I realised I did feel OK to walk much more than that, and I ended up walking right to the very end of the Pool River Linear Park - about 3.6 miles in all. On my home I bought some very strange fish (only strange when described in Romanian), and some very strong beer. In the afternoon I went for another, but much, much shorter walk to Poundland where I forgot to check the tool section for a tap adaptor for my hose. I didn't find one in the gardening section, but I came away far from empty handed. The details of my walk, with some pictures and video, plus a bit more about what I bought, and what I ate yesterday, are all on my archive page for today. |
Friday
15th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 53 07:44 BST Yesterday was generally bright with sunny intervals, of very variable length, all day. The afternoon temperature reached 12° C, and with only a very light wind, it felt somewhere between tepid and warm. Today started very
cold again thanks to a clear sky. A few of the shed
roofs I can see from my back window looked like they
had frost on top, but it might have just been dew. The
sky remains blue, and the sun is shining. Some clouds
might reduce the sunshine to just sunny intervals
after 11am, but the temperature should continue to
rise, and the latest revision reckons it should get to
a warm 17° C by about 3pm. Tomorrow may be a degree or
so cooler, and only feature sunny intervals, but much
warmer weather should follow. Next Tuesday looks very
appealing !
I still couldn't work out how I felt yesterday, but I was determined to go out to get some shopping. It was only a short walk, but as I headed for home I realised I could have quite comfortably have walked much further. I ended up doing three important things yesterday. There was the shopping trip, aligning my new CCTV camera properly, and bodging together a thing to connect my new hose pipe (which was delivered yesterday) to my kitchen tap. I guess watering the garden with it could be called a fourth job. The full story, and as usual, with pictures, can be read on my archive page for today. |
Thursday
14th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 52 10:07 BST It was a very mixed day yesterday. One moment the sun might come out, and feel very warm in a black coat that soaks up the sun. The next moment the sun goes in, and the wind feels icy cold. Although there were sunny spells all day, for most of the day the periods of gloom seemed far longer that the periods of sunshine. The maximum temperature was just 11° C, and that only feels warm when in direct sunshine with no wind. The early morning
forecast, as shown in the screenshot above, is fantasy
! Even the very latest revision persists in the
falsehood that this morning was, and will be for
another hour, sunny. All we have had is occasional
sunny periods. There are just too many clouds in the
sky to give long periods of sunshine. What the
forecast did get right was that it would be bloody
cold at the start of the day. Once again we only
missed a frost by a degree or two. Hopefully the sunny
periods will continue, as forecast until sunset. (The
latest revision shows sunny periods for 2pm as well).
One very minor bit of positive news is that the
temperature may rise to 13° C by late this afternoon.
That is by no means warm, but better than just 11° C.
The current forecast for tomorrow shows a very similar
picture as the screenshot above, but the afternoon
temperature may rise to 16° C - that might feel warm
if the wind behaves itself.
Yesterday was good and bad - as so many days are. I went for a walk in the morning, and it was not enjoyable as all, but I did manage to buy some shopping on the way home. The very good was somehow being selective enough in what I ate (and drunk) to get a very pleasing low blood glucose level this morning. The generally good was installing, and testing my new CCTV camera. Once screwed to the wall outside it gave some very nice pictures - even when daylight had all but gone (it has infra red for when it is really dark). It could have been very good if I had adjusted it properly so was level, and could look down into the garden. That should be a job for today. There are some assorted pictures taken with ordinary camera, and so video to show off the CCTV camera, plus a commentary on my day, in my usual daily archive page. |
Wednesday
13th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 51 08:17 BST After a cold, but sunny start it warmed up to about 13° C yesterday. Unfortunately the sunshine gave way to just sunny spells even before the morning was over. Unlike the previous night, it didn't get very cold last night, but it did get very cool. The forecast says
partly cloudy, and I say sunny intervals. Who's to say
who is right ? Maybe they mean the same thing. Anyway,
the latest revision to the forecast has changed the
headline to Sunny Intervals, and also changed the
maximum temperature to 13° C for a few hours this
afternoon. To sum up, today will not be awful, but it
won't be all that nice. The temperature is going
to drop a lot tonight, and tomorrow may start no
warmer than 5° C. It might be a sunny morning, but
from midday it will probably be very similar to today.
I guess I was suffering from the lockdown blues yesterday. I seemed to have no motivation, and it made me feel tired and lazy. Maybe I was actually tired. I did doze off a few times when reading while laying on my bed. The odd thing is that I felt I had slept well during the night, but maybe I didn't. That doesn't bode well for today when it feels like I might have slept worse than the previous night. I managed to finish two important jobs yesterday despite having very little enthusiasm. One of the jobs is not completely finished, and I guess it is just another stage in it that is finished. All is revealed, together with some thoughts on what I will do today, in my archive page for today. |
Tuesday
12th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 50 07:36 BST Yesterday was quite chilly, but there was a fair bit of sunshine. At times the sunshine and partly blue sky looked a bit like summer, but the icy feeling blast that blew in from any open window was more like winter than summer ! I am not completely sure the temperature even hit the forecast 11° C. My thermometers said it was
just 3° C at 6am, and I think we only missed a frost
by the skin of our teeth. The reason for this very low
temperature was the clear sky. There seems to be a bit
of light cloud to the west, but much of the sky is
blue, and the sun is shining. That should raise the
temperature to 13° C by this afternoon, although after
11am we may only get sunny intervals. Tomorrow may be
a degree or two cooler, and there will probably just
be sunny intervals through the day.
Yesterday could have been almost as boring as Sunday, but somehow the day seemed to fly by. My package from Amazon arrived a bit later than expected. I predicted sometime around 3pm, but it was actually 5pm. That still gave me enough time to play with my new toys before the end on the day. Prior to that I was stuck on high alert from about midday, and I could do very little that might make me miss the doorbell. It feel a bit unusual, but all my spare time yesterday didn't seem to result in eating too much, and this morning my blood glucose is nice and low, and my weight seems to have dipped a bit, but there is still no overall downward trend yet. There is more about my trials and tribulations yesterdayin the full archive page for today HERE. |
Monday
11th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 49 08:28 BST The sunny spells predicted for yesterday morning gave a false impression of how the day would turn out. They weren't even very impressive, although I seem to recall there was a period of an hour or so when it did seem to look very nice outside. By the afternoon it was all over as the cloud thickened to cover the whole sky, and by about 3pm the sky looked so dark that it seemed like it would rain. It didn't rain, but the started cooling quite rapidly. The evening was very chilly with a wind no warmer than 7° C blowing through my bathroom window. Earlier on, around midday, the temperature had peaked at 16° C. One thing that is very
obvious about this morning is that it is blood chilly.
The forecast reckons we should be heading for 8° C,
but I'm not sure it has fully reached 7° C yet. The
sun has tried to come out a few times this morning,
but it is battling with a lot of cloud. The latest
revision to the forecast still says there should be
non stop sunshine until it gives way to sunny
intervals from midday. I am not optimistic that
forecast is going to turn out right. The idea that the
highest temperature this afternoon will be just a very
cool 11° C doesn't seem to be far off the mark though.
Tomorrows forecast shows the same pattern of sunshine
and sunny intervals, but the day will start even cold,
maybe 5° C, but will end up
Yesterday, being a Sunday was very boring ! It was the one constant in these topsy turvey pandemic times. Maybe around 11am, when it was looking bright and sunny, I did think I ought to put on a coat (it was chilly outside), grit my teeth and go for a walk. Maybe just a short to medium length one, but by the time I could have been ready to go out the sun was starting to lose the battle with the clouds. It wasn't long after midday that it looked very unappealing outside. In the end I stayed in and did a few jobs, at least one of the pointless. I ended up drinking beer and spending 3 hours on the phone to Sue, but along the way it seems I really controlled my eating, and this morning my blood glucose was a very nice low figure. Today the plans I didn't have are already in disarray as I now find I need to stay on high alert for a parcel delivery - probably mid afternoon, but possibly as late as 9pm. The long version of this, with pictures of beer and stuff, is to be found on the archive page for today. |
Sunday
10th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 48 08:13 BST Yesterday felt like summer. It was warm and sunny nearly all day. The afternoon temperature reached 23° C. There could be some sunny
spells for a few hours this morning, but the sky
already looks very hazy as the cloud builds up. The
latest revision to the forecast is a bit more
optimistic than the screenshot of the forecast, above.
It seems the latest prediction is that the sunny
spells could last until 1pm, and by then the
temperature may risen to 19° C. After 1pm the
temperature will slowly fall away to give quite a cool
night - perhaps just 7° C. Tomorrow, according to the
latest prediction, could feature a fair bit of
sunshine through the day, but the highest temperature
could be 11° C - time get my coat out again !
I finished yesterday by saying I was bored with The Pool River Linear Park, and Ladywell Fields, and yet I would probably have to go through one or the other to go to somewhere else. I mentioned the possibility of visiting Southend Park, but that would involve a long walk. It did indeed because I broke a new record for this year by walking 4.19 miles. After my walk I ate some naughty food, sent my blood glucose level soaring, and had to eat a very careful dinner. It worked though because this morning my blood glucose is back down to a very good level - 6.6mmol/l. In he evening I had some very strong beer (7.6%), and got some very nice deep sleep for 3 or 4 hours before disaster struck. You can read about the unpleasantness of that disaster, but the pleasantness of my walk, with pictures, and another silly video, in my archive page for today HERE. |
Saturday
9th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 47 07:46 BST Once again it was another warm day, and this time it seemed to stay warm later into the evening. I had my bedroom window open until at least 7pm, and maybe 8pm. The overall impression is that it was a sunny day, although during the afternoon there were duller intervals. The afternoon temperature may have reached 24° C. If it did, it was one degree more than forecast. Today is the last day of the
run of good weather we have had. Tomorrow may be dull,
overcast and at just 15° C, comparatively cool. By
contrast, today should be as warm as yesterday, 23° C,
and even sunnier. The only fly in the ointment is that
the sun is now rising so far to the east that it is
shining past my bedroom, and not into it, and it is
feeling rather cool indoors, but even though I can't
see the sun, I can see that it is casting sharp
shadows along the road.
I've done a lot of unusual laundry recently. Yesterday I washed my third pair of jeans - three pairs in a week - more than I would usually do in a year. I still had the energy to go out for a longer walk than intended, 3.34 miles instead of just the 2 miles I thought I would do. If was very nice until I got home and slowly boredom seeped in. I seemed to get careless with my eating, but amazingly my blood glucose was nice and low this morning. As usual, my archive page for today explains it all, and has a few nice pictures and a silly video. Click HERE to see it all. |
Friday
8th May 2020 |
Lockdown day 46 09:43 BST Yesterday was another nice warm day with the temperature reaching 22° C (but possibly only for a short time). The slight spoiler was that the non stop sunshine was confined to the morning, and the first hour or two of the afternoon. The rest of the day just had sunny spells, although I did note that the sky was mostly clear at sunset. It could have been a nice pink sunset if there were a few clouds in the sky, although I did note a breaking up aircraft contrail that was nicely pink. Today is forecast to follow
yesterdays pattern - sunny morning followed by sunny
spells in the afternoon. The latest revision to the
forecast shows the last hour of full sunshine to be
1pm (an hour later than the screenshot above). The
temperature should reach a rather nice 23° C this
afternoon. Tomorrow should see the same temperature
range, but the current prediction is that the sunshine
should last until about 6pm. That will be nice if that
prediction turns into reality. The weather suddenly
changes for the day after tomorrow. The current
forecast says cold and dull. Let's hope that turns out
to be wrong.
Yesterday, a bit like today has started, was a day of mixed activities. I went for a 2.65 mile walk that ended with a visit to the pharmacy, and a little bit of shopping (just for pop and beer). The visit to the pharmacy was one of the smoothest ever. They had every one of my prescribed drugs all bagged up, and ready to take away. The idiot who gets things wrong was nowhere to be seen. The senior pharmacist checked for my next repeat prescription, and told me that I was supposed to be reviewed by a doctor before the next series, but he told me to phone him about a week before my drugs ran out, and he would put a request through to the surgery, and they would either approve it, or call me in for a review. This is one single part of lockdown that I like ! Yesterday I ate badly, and my blood glucose didn't go down, but I think my weight has. This morning I was out early and managed a fairly stress free bit of shopping in Tesco. Later on I shall take a short walk in the park. The full details, plus some pictures taken on my walk, and some pictures of beer, are in the archive page for today HERE.

Lockdown day 45 07:48 BST It was almost like a summer's day yesterday. The sun was shining all day. The sky was blue, and in the afternoon, when the temperature hit 17° C, it was warm - but maybe only when actually in the sunshine. The forecast today seems
like it should be a good day with a few caveats. There
is hazy sunshine at the moment, and that seems better
than the sunny intervals that are forecast for early
this morning. The sun should burn off the haze soon,
hopefully, and then we should have full sunshine until
2pm. After that we may only get sunny intervals. I am
keeping my fingers crossed they will be long periods
of sunshine, and short periods without. If all goes
well, by 3pm the temperature should have risen to 22°
C, and then it should really feel like it is summer.
Tomorrow is currently thought to be almost exactly the
same pattern as today, but the temperature may reach
23° C.
Once again I was not feeling that good yesterday morning, but rather than depression it was some leftover aches from the long walk the day before, and just a general creakiness. I still managed to get myself out for a 3.08 mile walk, and this walk involved a long climb up to the top of Hilly Fields. My archive page for today features a full description plus a selection of photos taken along the way. It is includes a rather less than professional video taken from the centre of the (not really) neolithic stone circle (erected for the millenium) on Hilly Fields. You'll find all that, plus how I could be having a busy day today, in the archive page HERE. |

Lockdown day 44 08:00 BST My overall impression of yesterday is that it was sunny, and that is only because when it really counted, when I was out exercising, it was sunny. The morning started very dull, and there were only sunny spells in the afternoon. It wasn't a warm day except when out walking in the sunshine. That felt quite warm, but otherwise just 13° C meant that I needed some heating on from time to time - even mid afternoon ! Two hours after the forecast
above was issued, and the latest revision shows no
change. It is beginning to look like today will be a
very nice day - once it warms up. I'm not sure if the
outside temperature has actually reached the forecast
9° C. About 10 or 15 minutes ago my thermometers were
agreeing on it being just over 7° C. I have the heater
on low, and it still feels a bit cool for sedentary
work like typing this. At the moment the sun is either
too low, and hidden by a building, or it is hidden by
some haze. The sky looks a slightly grey version of
blue at the moment. The haze and cloud should burn off
soon to reveal a very sunny day, and with an afternoon
temperature of 17° C, it should feel nice, although
still not nice enough to get my shorts out again -
That might happen tomorrow when the temperature might
hit 21° C, and almost definitely if the temperature
reaches the predicted 25° C.
I was not feeling that good yesterday morning, and much of it was depression upon realising that I had, in effect (but not literally) lost Angela to Covid-19....or more specifically to the lockdown. Some of it was just physical, and maybe today that would come back to haunt me, but I had to get out for a walk. It was sunny, and while walking it felt quite warm (after I warmed up), I wanted to test one pair of my new boots, and a walk always cheers me up - particularly when I manage to walk over 3.5 miles when I was only expecting to manage 2 miles or less. The full story of my day, plus a lot of pictures and a video, and also why and how I am in pain this morning, and how I will probably be in more pain later (after another walk) is revealed in my archive page for today HERE. |

Lockdown day 43 07:35 BST My memory of yesterday's weather is a bit vague, and I think that is because the weather was rather bland. There were enough clouds around all day that sometimes the sun would come out, and sometimes the sun would go in. I guess it was generally "bright", but unremarkabley so. The afternoon temperature was around 15 or 16° C - not cold, but not warm. I took the screenshot of the
weather, as shown above, at about 5.10am. It is sort
of remarkable that it hasn't changed. It tells us that
very soon now the sun should push through the rather
cloudy sky (which doesn't look likely), and an hour
later the sun will be out full strength until midday.
After that it will be back to sunny intervals.
Unfortunately the wind is from the east, and that
means the temperature will probably not rise above 13°
C today. We may have better luck tomorrow when there
may be much more sunshine, and the temperature could
rise to 17° C. The day after tomorrow, Thursday, could
see a return to more summer like weather.
Yesterday mixed hope and depression. Hope that my new boots will have been a worthwhile purchase, and depression because I have now seen evidence (an online posting) that Angela has gone over to the dark side, and is lost forever. If any good can be extracted from that it is that the end of lockdown is meaningless, and it won't matter if it goes on forever. Back on the bad side, Angela cropped up in one of my dreams, and I was awake for a long time after 4am. Today I feel sort of tired, maybe ill in a way I can't describe. Mostly it is all in my head. Much of my archive page for today is actually rather more positive than this, although inevitably it does have it's darker moments. I do include a nice picture of my one window box that has turned out OK. In fact there are several pictures, plus report on my health, beer tasting notes, and all the usual stuff on my archive page for today HERE. |

Lockdown day 42 08:52 BST The threat in a later revision to the weather forecast for rain and drizzle in the morning didn't come to pass (except for some drizzle around 6am). As far as I recall, the rest of the day was perfectly dry, but most of it was overcast to some degree. The sun did break through a few times, but it never had a chance of lifting the temperature higher than the 15° C predicted in later revisions of the forecast (very early in the morning the prediction was for 17° C). The forecast for today seems
to be a bit of a mess. No revision of the forecast
mentioned there were sunny spells before 9am (we are
having one now !). Comparing revisions of the forecast
the best prediction seems to be that there could be
sunny spells at any time today. Like the last few days
forecasts, the initial prediction of the afternoon
temperature has been throttled back. The latest idea
is that we can expect no more than 16° C today, and
that may only last two hours or less. It looks like it
should stay dry - that is one thing that has been
consistent through the various revisions. Tomorrow may
actually feature some long periods of sunshine, and
there should be sunny spells before and after, but the
temperature may only be a disappointing 13° C.
Despite feeling a strong need to go for a walk, I couldn't translate that into action, and I stayed at home all day yesterday. It was a still a productive day if you count doing stuff on a PC as productive. In fact it was on both laptop and PC. I also did a few physical things including cooking. On the whole, for a boring Sunday, it wasn't very boring at all. I wasn't completely careful about what I ate, but I have kept my blood glucose level down, and even lost a tiny bit more weight (but at this rate it seems like it will take ages to get where I was before, and then lose even more). My archive page for today includes a better description of yesterday, and even all I have done so far this morning. It even includes the short video I forgot to post yesterday, and a couple of pictures of things I bought on an early morning shopping trip this morning. You'll find it all by clicking HERE. |

Lockdown day 41 08:29 BST Contrary to the weather forecast, that predicted early morning sunshine, yesterday started with sunny intervals. There were some small clouds that would pass in front of the sun now and then. Later on the clouds got fewer and fewer, but I don't recall any time when the sky was pure blue. Later in the afternoon the clouds returned, although not enough to completely cover the sky. It felt quite warm by early afternoon. The temperature may only have reached the forecast 17° C by late afternoon, but a mild breeze from the west made it feel warmer. The forecast has changed a
lot since I took this screenshot. The one thing it did
get right was some light rain or drizzle at 7am. The
latest revision to the forecast warns of rain or
drizzle continuing until 10am, although as I write
this it looks dry outside. The latest revision removes
any chance of sunny spells, and says that the rest of
the day will be dull and overcast. Also the
temperature is now expected to be any higher than 15°
C. This is all rather disappointing compared to what
we we offered earlier. The original forecast for
today, as in the screenshot above, has now been
transferred to tomorrow (except for the early morning
drizzle). Let's hope this prediction actually comes
true...or is replaced by something even better !
Yesterday was quite a successful day, although not quite as successful as I hoped - only a 3,2 mile walk instead of a 4+ mile walk. The walk, plus fasting was very successful at getting my blood glucose level down to a sane number. I even ended up sleeping well last night. The full story of yesterday, plus pictures (there was going to be a video too, but I seem to have forgotten to include it) can be found in my archive page for today HERE. |

Lockdown day 40 09:04 BST Yesterday morning was bright and sunny. The afternoon was also bright, and sometimes the sun came out, but from about 1pm, earlier than predicted by any revision to the weather forecast, it started to rain. It was quite intermittent. Sometimes it stopped. Sometimes it was light, and sometimes it was very heavy. I'm not sure what time it stopped, but I think it may have been before 6pm. It seemed to feel quite cool indoors - particularly downstairs where there was no heating on. It is unfortunate that the sun is now high enough in the sky that it does not shine directly into my front room, and I had the heater on low in my bedroom for most of the day. The outside temperature may not have quite reached the 15° C forecast. Perhaps 14° C was closer to reality - almost warm in sunshine, but cold in the rain. There is a fair scattering
of small clouds at the moment, and so I would say we
are having sunny intervals rather than sunshine. From
1pm the forecast does change to sunny intervals, but
even the latest revision to the forecast says it will
be a dry day, and the temperature should reach 17° C -
although not until very late in the afternoon.
Tomorrow maybe a little more cloudy, and that will
reduce the amount of sunny intervals - some hours may
just be light grey, but it may still stay dry. The
headline figure for tomorrow was 15° C, but it has now
changed to 18° C, and yet the highest temperature
shown on the hour by hour chart is 17° C.
I think that I let "social isolation" get to me yesterday. I was not down in the dumps, but there seemed no reason to be cheerful. There were assorted reasons to get this way, but I still managed to do some useful stuff, and unfortunately to cook some extremely unhealthy meals. That latter would have been OK if they had been so nice that they distracted me from the gloom of the moment, but neither lunch of dinner was anything more than OK, but far from exciting. I discuss all this, plus more observations on old boots, and a picture of me from about 40 years ago compared to a very recent picture, in my archive page for today HERE. |

1st May 2020 |
Lockdown day 39 09:31 BST There were sunny spells yesterday morning, but it seemed like the best sunshine was just before it rained - maybe it was just the contrast between the two. The rain possibly started at around 1pm, and then it continued, with an occasional break, and sometimes light, and sometimes heavy, until the evening. I am not sure when it finally stopped, but I don't remember much falling after, say, 7pm. The highest temperature was about 12° C, and while it still felt cool, it was not as chilly as the day before. The forecast has changed a
bit since I took the screenshot above. The morning
hasn't changed much, although I think "sunny spells"
is closer to the "sunny intervals" forecast (on the
basis that "intervals" sound longer than "spells").
The real change is that the latest revision now says
it will rain between 2pm and 6pm. Oh well, it's good
for the garden. Another, less consequential, change is
that it should reach 15° C an hour earlier than
originally predicted (now at 2pm). Tomorrow should
start cold and sunny, and the sunshine should continue
until it changes to just sunny intervals about 1pm.
The temperature may finally reach 17° C by 4pm. It is
currently thought that tomorrow will be dry....we'll
see !
It was my intention to go out for a walk yesterday, although I have to admit that while I was going to do it, it was not with any great enthusiasm. Perhaps it is fortunate that two things happened that delayed me, and stopped me walking out to meet quite an heavy shower before I had walked much more than a mile. First of all the DVD I had ordered from Amazon arrived in the post, and secondly my laptop had lots of software updates to install. By the time I was ready to go it seemed too close to when it might pour with rain. I decided I would wimp out, and stay indoors, in the dry. It was a curious day. I was definitely not bored, and there was more I wanted to do but didn't seem to have the time to do any more. Yet for all that, nearly everything I did was small and inconsequential - even if it seemed important at that minute. I have described all that I could, and show a chart of my temperature several times a day for the entire month that sort of proves I have had no fever during that time, all in my archive page for today HERE. |
