Lockdown day 99 08:51 BST Yesterday's weather was very different to the BBC's forecast, and it seemed to be better than the more optimistic forecast from the Met Office. However both agreed with reality that the morning was generally rather dull, but the Met Office won out by then saying there would be sunny spells. By 1pm there were starting to be very long periods of sunshine. Later in the afternoon I might have described some hours as "Sunny". What was not obvious, and maybe was not predicted correctly, was that it was very windy, but that was a plus point because the wind was from the west, and it seemed to be much warmer than either forecast predicted. My thermometers agreed it had been 23° C in the afternoon. Yesterday I reported I had eaten some sandwiches after my shopping trip to Aldi, and that they made me feel tired. For a while I lay on my bed reading, and I think I may have even had a very short snooze. The more optimistic forecast from The Met Office made my desire to go out seem more worthwhile. I left it fairly late to go out, but not late enough to need to go for the shortest walk possible to get to Angela's favourite park bench. I felt quite sluggish when I first started walking, but that quickly wore off. I almost did more than a short walk ! I was very happy that Angela turned up about three minutes after I arrived at her favourite park bench. That and the afternoon sunshine made for a pleasant day - much better than I had imagined it might be. The full details of my walk, plus some pictures taken along the way, what I ate, how I had a crap sleep last night, and the good and bad points this morning are all in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 98 07:28 BST The weather forecast for yesterday was mostly fantasy. The did indeed start bright, but clouds thickened, and made it seem quite dull before the morning was over. From midday, and for the next few hours, there were a few bright sunny spells, two or three passing showers (on a day that was supposed to be dry), and one quite heavy shower. The latter was definitely not mentioned in the forecast ! Later on it did brighten up, but the various later revisions of forecast the kept adding a shower at random times in the hope that it might getting something right. They were the times when it seemed the sunniest. The afternoon temperature was 19° C, and maybe a degree or so warmer for a while. It cooled quite quickly, even before sunset, to give quite a cool night. I've just taken a break to go shopping in Aldi while it is quiet there. I kept expecting to see one of the sunny spells the BBC weather forecast predicted - there were none ! However I did feel some fine rain blowing in the wind. I wondered if the BBC, or MeteoGroup, who now provide their forecasts, had somehow mixed up rain and sunshine. So recent forecast would suggest they have. That prompted me to find the Met Office forecasts web page. It tells a different story to the screenshot of the BBC's web page. The weather did not look favourable for a walk yesterday, and yet I knew I needed to do a walk before I seized up completely. I went out a bit later than usual, and ended up walking just over 4 miles - twice as much as the minimum I set myself, and a mile more than what I hoped I could push myself to walk. Mostly it was easier than I thought it would be, and although I was very keen to get my boots off when I got home, my feet were not complaining that much. There are the usual pictures, and now new normal of a short video of my walk, plus how I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening, and with some thoughts about this morning and today, all in my full archive page for today. |

28th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 97 09:30 BST There were periods of time during the morning when it stopped raining, but much of yesterday morning featured rain. Some light, some medium, and maybe a bit of heavy rain. Enough to give the garden a fair watering. Most of the afternoon was dry, but it was usually quite dull and gloomy. 20° C could have felt warm if there had been any sunshine in the afternoon...actually I do now remember a short period of time when the sun did come out, and the sun did feel hot, but without any sunshine it felt very cool. A fairly strong wind/breeze helped it feel even cooler. It feels like the highlight of my day yesterday was going out to buy beer from Aldi early in the morning. I managed to do that, purely by chance, during a long lull in the rain, but not long after I got home the rains started again. It was really dull outside, and the two combined seemed to suck any enthusiasm from me. I can't really say I achieved anything else at all yesterday. I spent a lot of time reading - including re-reading an article in the latest New Scientist about the latest news about Covid-19. My full archive page for today includes some snippets from the New Scientist article that I thought were of particular interest. It also attempts to explain why I was feeling off colour, but most sort of depressed, or at least very unenthusiastic yesterday. It finishes with what I need to do today, but still feel unenthusiastic about that too. |

27th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 96 10:37 BST Despite multiple revisions the the weather forecast, each taking a wild stab in the dark for a time when there would be a thunderstorm, yesterday was mostly dry and sunny. There was some rain early in the morning, and from early evening there was enough cloud to make it rather dull outside. The afternoon temperature was a respectable 27° C, but it did seem to cool down quickly in the evening. I had three plans for yesterday in the morning. The first was to have a good shower, I had been very apprehensive about it because I thought I must have got sun burnt being out in the hot midday sun the day before. I hadn't felt any discomfort from any sun burn, but I hadn't realised how burnt the area above my right knee had got last Monday until I had a shower. The hot water felt like red hot lava as it fell on the burnt area. It turned out that I hadn't burnt the previous day, and no areas of my body complained about that hot water. My second plan was to go to the corner shop to see if they had the latest New Scientist magazine in. They did, and it was far more convenient than having to walk all the way to the Sainsbury's Local shop near Catford station. I did have a possible third plan, but I knew it was very tentative, and subject to a host of pros and cons. It was to go for a walk in the park, or even further afield. In the end I stayed in, and did some sweaty work at home. Today's full archive page for today explains the rest of the things I did yesterday, and while as I write this half the day has gone already ! |

26th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 95 07:12 BST Yesterday was another very hot and sunny day. The afternoon temperature reached at least 31° C. It was fiercely hot yesterday. Going out into the fierce sunshine, and heat yesterday, may not have been the most sensible thing to do, but I did it anyway. I can't say it was the most enjoyable walk I've had, but it had both pleasant and unpleasant moments. The good was overcoming the challenge, and walking 3.1 miles. The bad was getting dehydrated enough to get a bit of a mild headache in the afternoon (but it did wonders for my weight until I rehydrated myself). I may have also got a bit of sunburn, but I won't know for definite until I take a hot shower soon. As usual I took a few pictures along the way, but only two of them. I present most of the highlights in a video. All this, and all the usual other stuff can be found in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 94 07:29 BST Just as the forecast predicted, yesterday was hot and sunny. The temperature came very close to 31° C. Yesterday did not proceed in the way I had imagined it yesterday morning. After my two shopping trips. Tesco and Poundstretcher, I relaxed for a while, and then I sent a text message to Angela to say I would be going through the park, and it would be nice to meet up again. I was just getting my boots on when she replied to say she would not be there today. I could have still gone for a walk, but I felt a bit lazy in the heat, and decided not to go for a walk. It must have been a very specialised feeling of being lazy because I ended up doing quite a lot. The hottest, and sweatiest work involved hand washing a heavy duvet cover, and a fair bit of gardening. The entire story of my day, plus what I have already done this morning, and what I will probably do is in my full archive page for today. |

24th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 93 10:14 BST Yesterday afternoon could fairly be called very warm, but at just 27° C it was not quite high enough to be called hot ! There was non stop sunshine through the day until a few light clouds passed in front of the sun in the last few hours before sunset. The garden definitely needed watering ! I'm not sure when it was, or even why, but in the end I decided not to go out for a walk yesterday. Instead of walking I started doing some fairly productive things at home. I had a fairly busy day doing laundry and gardening, as well as some photography. The photography was taking a few snaps of some of my work through the day, and cleaning up some pictures sent to me, via email, by my younger sister (who I only found had an email address yesterday !). The full description of my day, plus all the photos, and what I have been doing this morning, is all written up in my full archive page for today. |

23rd June 2020 |
Lockdown day 92 06:55 BST I think they got the weather forecast perfectly correct (ignoring the first hour) yesterday. It was a very sunny day. In fact it was sunshine from dawn to dusk. The afternoon temperature probably hit 23° C just as the forecast predicted. My walk was deliberately short yesterday (but still 2.6 miles) because I wanted to be in a certain place at a certain time ! I was hoping for a very special birthday event (it was my birthday yesterday), and my dream came true. My plan was to try and meet Angela in the park at lunchtime by pure chance rather than arranging anything in advance. It was wonderful seeing Angela again. After not seeing each other for 90+ days the old warmth had not gone away. It felt so good that I even did something I really hate later in the afternoon - paying bills and other finance stuff. The full details of my day, plus some thoughts of what I will do today, can be read on my full archive page for today. |
Monday
22nd June 2020 |
Lockdown day 91 06:33 BST The weather forecast for yesterday turned out to be basically right. The start of the morning did feature rain, but most of it was so light as to be almost ignorable. After the rain the cloud thinned a bit, and by the afternoon we started to get sunny spells. The only trouble was, like the morning rain, those sunny spells were not that good. They were often hazy, and seemed to be short lived. Even when the sun was shining there seemed to be thick cloud in one half of the sky. That cloud made the day feel dull even in sunshine. The afternoon temperature reached the forecast 21° C. I couldn't complete the walk I was intending to do yesterday. I had intended to walk over 4 miles, but I cut my walk short because I was feeling uncomfortable. My feet felt sore - both of them - and my chest felt sore. The chest soreness was, I think, I hope, the return of my "twisted rib". The worst pain was when putting on the t-shirt I wore for the walk. There was nothing special about that t-shirt, but as I poked my left arm through the sleeve I felt something pop approximately behind my left breast. After that it was so easy to provoke my chest into a light, but annoying ache. My feet pains were a bit more complicated, and while the cause seemed easy to explain, the underlying reason was a mystery. One specific pain was my part skinned toe. I had put fresh sticking plaster over that toe, and maybe I didn't do such a good job as the previous day, but there was another factor with wider implications. My walk ended up as just under 3 miles - oddly enough almost the same as the walk the day before. The is a fuller description, plus some pictures taken during my walk in my full archive page for today. It also includes more about the rest of my day, and what I have done so far today. |
Sunday
21st June 2020 |
Lockdown day 90 06:56 BST Once again the first version of the weather forecast for yesterday probably came the closest to reality. Later versions had sunny spells in the morning, and evening, but the original version said overcast start, and then sunny spells in the afternoon. I think those sunny spells may have started an hour earlier than shown in the original forecast. By the afternoon it was warm, and I think it felt a bit warmer than the predicted 20° C, but it may have been that the breeze was light enough not to be chilly. I don't think I mentioned it yesterday to avoid making promises I might break, but I was quite keen to get out for a walk to get my joints working again, and to see how my sore toe was doing. I'm not sure why I decided that I wanted to do a bit of hill climbing, but it was probably some desire to burn a few extra calories. (I don't think the walking app I use on my phone to plot my route, takes into account the extra effort involved in walking up hills). I wanted to get out a bit earlier than I did (midday) but was slowed by waiting for my freshly washed hair to dry. I am not sure why I bothered to wash my hair - it would soon get damp with sweat again. I am not even sure why I had a good scrub in the shower either. I was not planning to meet anyone, and I was actively avoiding coming to close to anyone. I ended up walking just 2.8 miles, and it was enjoyable meeting the challenge, but over half the walk was done under a gloomy overcast sky. Later on I would eat inappropriate food. All the details of my walk, or at least the least boring bits, plus the usual commentary on my day, and vague plans for today are in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
20th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 89 08:42 BST Yesterday's weather forecast was almost right. The first couple of hours after sunrise were not wet or sunny, and so that bit was wrong, but from then on the forecast said overcast, but dry, and for most of the time that was right. I think it may have been before the forecast time of 5pm when the first brief sunny spells occurred, but from then on it did brighten up a fair bit. There was even a nice sunset, but as that approached the sun was too low in the sky, and mainly hidden behind houses and stuff to make it seem sunny. The temperature may have briefly peaked at 20° C, but much of the middle of the day was just 17 to 19° C, and it did feel noticeably cool. |
Friday
19th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 88 07:41 BST Once again the weather forecast for yesterday didn't match reality. It appears that the heavy rain, and possibly thunderstorms, were a long way to the west of here. There was just enough rain in the morning to keep the garden damp, but the afternoon was dry. By mid, or late afternoon it was almost sunny. Curiously enough, the weather forecast, after getting so much so wrong, did get it right when predicting sunny spells for the last couple of hours before sunset. The afternoon temperature seemed to be the forecast 20° C - sort of warm, but also a bit clammy. |
Thursday
18th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 87 09:34 BST The weather forecast offered by the BBC yesterday, based on data supplied by MeteoGroup, a cheap, foreign forecaster, was, once again, very wrong. The Weather Warning issued by the British Met Office, and that also appeared on the same BBC web page, turned out to be correct. From about midday there were slow moving heavy showers (in between lighter showers), and most of those heavy showers were indeed thundery. There were two periods of Thunder - one in the afternoon, and one that didn't come quite as close at about 8pm. It was predictably quite humid with the temperature around 21° C. Correction: The weather warning that I posted a screen shot of yesterday actually refers to TODAY ! |
Wednesday
17th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 86 07:55 BST Once again the weather forecast correctly predicted yesterday afternoon's temperature to be 22° C, but everything else was wrong ! The forecast of sunny intervals for nearly all day was more exaggeration that completely wrong. There were sunny intervals, but they seemed few and far between - particularly so mid afternoon when there were several passing showers that were not shown in the forecast. A revision of the forecast late in the afternoon predicted showers for most of the evening. That was possibly the sunniest time ! The early morning
predictions I made about yesterday were half right,
and half wrong. I thought I might go for a walk in
the afternoon, even if just a short one, and I also
thought I might do a bit more gardening. It was the
latter that turned out to be correct. I think I did
three short sessions in the garden, and with
hindsight that might have been the best way to do
it. Getting my garden into shape seems like
very slow progress, but very slowly it is happening.
There are some pictures, with descriptions, showing
the progress yesterday, plus the usual blather about
my day, and what I might do today, on my full
archive page for today.

Tuesday
16th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 85 07:57 BST No rain was forecast for yesterday, although the chance of rain was put at 14% late in the afternoon, and of course that is when it rained ! Prior to that there were sunny periods - some fairly long, but mostly fairly short. It did feel close, or humid, and the increasing cloud cover did make it seem like there may have been something substantially more than just a moderate shower. I believe others may have not been so lucky. The afternoon temperature was about 22° C. The high humidity made it feel feel very sweaty when doing anything physical - like gardening ! For me, yesterday started similar to the day before. I went shopping, and evaluated how my right foot, and it's very sore toe felt. I did notice a useful improvement when I went to Aldi yesterday morning. It was by no means comfortable, but certainly less uncomfortable than 24 hours earlier. It still seemed like a good idea to rest my feet for a bit after that shopping trip, and I spent an hour or so reading, but gradually I felt the urge to do something more useful. That something more useful was a bit of washing, and some sweaty time working in the garden (it seemed very humid!). All the details, plus a couple of pictures of the garden can be found in my full archive page for today. |
Monday
15th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 84 07:29 BST Yesterday wasn't such a bad day. There were a few long spells of sunshine in the morning, and sunny spells after that. It also seemed to be fairly warm by the afternoon. Maybe it was the light breeze, but it felt comfortable to keep my bedroom window open all afternoon, and even a little way into the evening. The afternoon temperature was supposed to be 22° C but I think it may have been a little better than that. Yesterday was a bit of an anti-climax after the day before, but it was still a pleasant day - which is rare for a Sunday. It was yesterday morning that I realised how much damage to my right foot, particularly one toe, I had done on my long walk the day before. I think it is going to take a very long time before it heals. Going for a long walk, with my foot hurting like it did, was out of the question, but I did walk to the Sainsbury's Local shop by Catford station. I bought quite a few things in there, but sadly they appeared to have sold the last copy of the latest New Scientist, and that was the biggest reason to go there. On the way home I managed to pack in 6 cans of beer from the small supermarket on Catford Bridge. My new rucksack is very roomy ! The best parts of my day were eating, gardening, and maybe doing a bit of washing, but maybe resting my foot was the real best part. All this is described in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
14th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 83 08:38 BST The best of yesterday was over by mid afternoon. Before that it was almost non stop sunshine, although there were still a few clouds drifting about that would briefly block the sun. There was a fair breeze to take the edge of the heat of the sun, but in sheltered spots the 21 or 22° C did feel warm. From mid afternoon the amount of cloud increased, and there were long spells when blue sky could still be seen, but the sun was behind a cloud. By early evening the clouds became dominant, and sometime that cloud was very black. It might have been around 8pm when there was a large peal of thunder, but I believe the storm was to the west of here, and it remained dry. My highlight for yesterday was to jump on a train, and head to Sheerness On Sea (or Sheerness in The Thames Estuary as I like to think of it). It was a day had that some very good points, but ultimately the downsides almost cancelled the good bits. I explain all this, and illustrate it with a heap of pictures, in one of my longest full archive page for today. It is good, or maybe bad, not to be constrained by everything I write not being piled one bit on another for a full month like I used to do. Now each day on the monthly page is a sort of précis, and the link above to the full page. |
Saturday
13th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 82 07:10 BST It was very gloomy for most of yesterday, but there was far less rain than originally forecast. There was also far less sunshine than originally forecast. There was a period of hazy sunshine in the morning, but it didn't seem to be long before the clouds dominated the sky. I am not sure when the first rain fell, but I think it would have been around 2pm, and even then it was no more than a light passing shower. I can't really recall how much, or indeed if any rain fell after that. It probably did rain more or I would have got the hose out to give the garden a water. Once again the temperature rose to about 19° C, and for me that is an inconvenient temperature - feeling quite cool when sedentary (such as quiest reading a book), and warm when doing any physical work. Yesterday was one of those days that was potentially bad, but actually wasn't that bad, and was even good at times. The weather forecast seemed to suggest the day could have been like the day before with a threat of rain for almost any time during the day. I definitely didn't fancy going out walking in a raincoat. That felt too horrible the day before, and besides which, I wasn't sure if my right knee wouldn't start to complain again in the damp air. While I didn't want to go out on a long walk, I did feel OK to go shopping first to Poundland, and then again to Poundstretcher. Neither had the potting compost I wanted, but I did buy some more plant pots. I hope I made my own clean, sterilised soil by microwaving it in small batches. I now have two pots planted with cornflower seeds. Hopefully they will eventually grow without being submerged in weeds. All the details of my day, plus what I hope to do today can be found, as usual, in my full archive page for today. |
Friday
12th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 81 07:51 BST Yesterday didn't feature the non stop rain of the early forecast, but it was still a very damp day. Later revisions of the forecast said it would only rain between 11am and 3pm, and that was closer to reality, but still wrong. I did not really note at what times it did rain. There were a few short lived showers, and at least one that gave the garden a good soaking. I do remember a very short period of sunshine some time in the early afternoon. Maybe there was one later too. It actually ended up a fairly mild day with the temperature briefly hitting 19° C. I wasn't feeling too good yesterday. It was mostly on account of the weather, but it did seem there might be a chance of getting out for a while before the next lot of rain. I have to admit that I didn't really want to go out, but I felt I needed to. Ideally I would walk 3, 4 or even 5 miles and shake my high blood glucose down a bit, but it wasn't to be. I did my best to enjoy what turned out to be one of my shortest walks for a while. On the whole I did not enjoy most of yesterday. Dull gloomy weather always makes me feel depressed, and stuff going on in the world just adds to the misery. As usual there is a couple of pictures, plus a 2 minute video about my short walk, and more stuff about depression and eating in my full archive page for today. It even includes what I might do today, and what I probably won't do. |
Thursday
11th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 80 08:58 BST Yesterday was every bit as cool as the forecast predicted, but it did not rain all day. There were a few very light, very brief showers, little more than a teaspoonful of rain each time, towards the end of the morning, but it was not until mid to late afternoon that there was any substantial rain - enough to water the garden. The afternoon high was about the 15° C, which would have seemed like luxury in December, but was very disappointing in June. Yesterday was not a great day. In fact it was a bad day. The grey sky, and the imminent threat of rain, sapped all my enthusiasm to do almost anything. It was made worse by two other things. One was the long, meandering, phone call from my friend Lee. That took a big chunk out of my morning when I may have managed to raise some enthusiasm for something. I did do a bit of hand laundry, and I also sorted some pictures out that I had taken of my old primary school on my walk the previous day. These pictures, plus what else I did yesterday, and what I might (or might not) do today can been seen and read in my full archive page for today. |
Wednesday
10th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 79 09:20 BST It sometimes felt a bit humid, almost like a thunderstorm was brewing, around midday yesterday. Some of the rather dark looking clouds made it look quite likely, but it stayed dry all day. There were even a few brief sunny spells during the afternoon. I'm not sure if the temperature reached the earlier forecast of 18° C, but it did seem to feel warm enough to raise a sweat when walking. I was in two minds yesterday. I wanted to go out, and I wanted to stay in the warm. I almost stayed in. For part of the morning I lay on my bed reading, and I was getting very close to falling asleep. I think it was after the second time that I found that I had closed my eyes that I decided I had to get up, and get out. It was almost midday before I went out. It was what is now almost routine - the further I walked, the further I felt able, or wanted to walk (within limit). I ended up walking about 4.6 miles. That was a bit less than I estimated it might turn out to be. I almost regretted not taking an even more convoluted route home to push it up to, and even beyond 5 miles. As usual there are pictures, plus a video, as well as a description of my walk, what I did after, how my sleep was disturbed, and how (and why) I plan on a very lazy day today, all in my full archive page for today. |
Tuesday
9th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 78 08:29 BST Yesterday was often quite grey and dull, but there were some periods of sunshine now and then, and it stayed dry. The wind was apparently coming from the north, and so would usually be rather chilly, but yesterday somehow seemed mild despite the temperature only reaching about 16° C. After my shopping trip to Aldi, and then writing this blog, or diary, or whatever, yesterday morning, I relaxed a bit by spending a bit of time reading. The greyness outside didn't really inspire me into action, and eating the two packs of chicken wraps I had bought from Aldi left me feeling a bit sedated too. Eventually I got down to doing some work. I did some gardening in the front garden, and just a bit in the back garden. The most momentous thing I did was getting the hoover out - and now the stairs have never been cleaner than they have in the last 10 years thanks to a new technique. I describe that, plus the gardening, and other things I did yesterday in my full archive page for today which also includes a lot of thoughts about this morning. |
Monday
8th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 77 10:04 BST The weather forecast for yesterday was not entirely accurate ! For a start, the sunny intervals forecast for the morning were so close together that, at least for some hours, may just as well have been described as "sunny". Soon after midday, if I recall correctly, the clouds built up enough to completely block the sun - maybe 2 hours earlier than forecast. The afternoon was expected to be dry, but it rained - not a lot of rain, but it seemed enough that I didn't need to water the garden. It was probably the hot sun on my black coat that made it feel a lot warmer than the 12 to 14° C forecast for the morning. With no sunshine in the afternoon it felt a lot cooler than the possible 18° C forecast, and I am not sure if it was actually any better than 16° C. I didn't think I really wanted to go out much earlier than usual yesterday, but I did. Instead of typically going out sometime after 11am, and quite typically around midday, I was out the front door soon after 9am. I was feeling quite creaky before I went out, and decided if I could just take a quick peek at the river, to see how the heavy rain the day before had affected it, I would be satisfied. It was so predictable that once I got moving I felt better and better. I ended up doing a full 3 mile walk, and bought some beer on the way home. My afternoon turned out different to how I imagined it, and instead of being ultra lazy I was often a bit busy. All the details about my walk, including another boring video, what I did in the afternoon, why I ate badly, and what I have already done this morning, are in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
7th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 76 06:57 BST There was one very important bit of weather that didn't appear in the weather forecast for yesterday - even in quite late revisions to it, and that was a thunderstorm ! The morning had started off bright and sunny, but it soon clouded over. By 11am it was very grey outside. By 1pm we were waiting for the first of the light rain to fall, but like on previous days it happened several hours later than the forecast predicted, and even then they seemed very light and rather sporadic. It all changed just after 6pm with a massive downfall with thunder and lightning. After that passed it brightened up a lot. On top of everything else it was a cold day with the temperature closer to 13° C than the 14° C that was forecast. It was getting on for
almost late yesterday morning before I was washed,
dressed, and ready to go out, but I just couldn't
seem to raise the enthusiasm to go for a walk. I was
prepared for some light rainfall, and almost thought
it would be fun to walk with an occasional bit of
rain (but not a heavy downpour). I even had my Fuji
XP71 waterproof camera charged and ready. This
camera even has a setting for underwater photography
! Instead of going out I just stayed in moping all
day...well almost all day. After a thunderstorm had
passed by just after 6pm I began to feel OK again
after the air pressure had risen (or fallen, or
something) and the negative (or positive) ions in
the air had dissipated (or something). This morning
I don't think I feel that bad, and I think that
today I will go for a walk. I mainly want to see how
the river looks after the storm, and maybe I'll walk
no more than 2 miles (and possibly less). There is a
short video featuring a slowed down action replay of
one of the lightning bolts yesterday, plus some
other observations and stuff, all in my full
archive page for today.

Saturday
6th June 2020 |
Lockdown day 75 07:35 BST Yesterday was a mixed day except for one constant - it never got better than "mild". There were some sunny intervals during the morning, and even into the afternoon, but quite often they were quite short sunny intervals. Light rain was forecast for a couple of hours starting at midday, and indeed there were a few spots of rain around that time, but sometime after 3pm, and perhaps as late as 4pm, just when the sunny intervals were supposed to resume, it poured down. There were at least two heavy downfalls, well good enough to water the garden, and some lighter rain in between. An hour or two before sunset the sky cleared, and there was a nice red sunset. The afternoon temperature was around the 15° C that was forecast - maybe a degree more for a while, but a degree less for more of the time. After all my laziness, and
over eating, I had to get myself out for a walk
regardless of the weather, and almost regardless of
how I felt. Fortunately I was feeling mostly OK, and
quite keen for it once I got started. To my delight
(well I think it was delight) the weather behaved
itself while I was out. I was expecting rain, and
indeed I did feel a few isolated spots of rain, but
by comparison the sunshine was more prominent.
That makes it sound like there was a lot of sunshine
- there wasn't ! I ended up doing a 3 miles walk
through the River Pool Linear Park, and bought some
heavy shopping from Sainsbury's on the way home. I
may do the same walk today. There are pictures, plus
a video from my walk yesterday, plus what I did in
the evening, and what I will probably do today, in
my full
archive page for today.

Lockdown day 74 07:47 BST It was cold and grey yesterday. Most depressing ! The afternoon temperature may have reached the 17° C predicted in later revisions of the forecast, but it felt more like the earlier prediction of 15° C - or even less ! It remained dry yesterday, and that was a pity - some rain would have made the day no worse, and at least it would have watered the garden. I had another very lazy
and boring day yesterday. The biggest excitement was
feeling like I had a fever because I was feeling
so cold. This time I remembered to check my
temperature using my digital clinical thermometer.
It was a mere 35.4° C, and that meant it wasn't me,
but the weather that had caught a cold. Apart from a
few "white" items I washed by hand, and bashing my
credit card for another takeaway, I did very little
yesterday. The cold grey weather just left me
depressed and listless. Today I will attempt to be
more productive. The full description about
yesterday, how I feel this morning, and how I think
I might make amends for yesterday, are, as usual, to
be found in my full archive page for
today.

Lockdown day 73 10:07 BST The weather really changed yesterday. It was much cooler, just 17° C according to the forecast, but maybe as high as 20° C in reality, and it ranged between being slightly lightly overcast to heavily overcast. Oh, it rained too, but not until much later than forecast. It was probably just barely enough to water the garden. Yesterday had it's good
points, but I felt mostly bored and almost
miserable. Getting some shopping from Aldi in the
morning was the high point of the day, but after
that I found I couldn't relax to the degree I was
aiming for. I think I did suggest yesterday morning
that I would probably end up doing a few odd jobs if
I couldn't reach the level of laziness desired -
which ultimately was probably to sleep all day long.
In fact I am not sure if I had a single snooze all
day. All the details of what I did yesterday, how I
am today, and what I think I might do today,
are in my full
archive page for today.

Lockdown day 72 08:09 BST Yesterday was bright and warm, but the sky wasn't always pure blue. There were enough of those high streaky or wispy clouds to occasionally dim, but not block, the sun. The afternoon temperature was in the region of 25° C. I had a nice walk yesterday. It was a fairly pleasant, even if not straightforward, to get to my starting point. The walk itself was very pleasant, but the journey home again was really irritating ! I ended up feeling so tired that I gave in and ordered a takeaway instead of cooking/making up my own dinner. At least it was a healthy dinner according to my low weight and blood glucose this morning. The great thing this morning was shopping in Aldi for the first time in a couple of months. It is a shame I ended buy something very naughty ! Read about my walk, illustrated with a few pictures, what I wanted to buy on my way home, and ended up buying something not quite the same this morning, in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 71 08:13 BST Yesterday was another very nice day - blue sky, bright, sunny and warm (about 24° C in the afternoon). I felt reasonably OK
yesterday morning (although not initially), and I
couldn't ignore another warm sunny day. I just had
to go out for a walk. After some thought I opted
to explore The
South Norwood Country Park. Much of it
covers what used to be a huge Victorian sewage
works. It was also used to dump rubble from
wartime bombing in Croydon. That rubble now forms
quite a big hill in what was once essentially flat
ground ! To get to the Country Park meant taking a
train to Elmers End station, and then walking from
there. It was only a short walk of 2.5 miles, but
it was very enjoyable covering brand new ground
under blue skies, and nice warm sunshine. The full
account of the day, including a pile of pictures,
and a very short video, plus some words about the
evening, and my potential, plans for today, are
written up in my full archive page
for today.

Lockdown day 70 08:27 BST Most of what I wrote about the day before yesterday also applies to yesterday - "It was really nice yesterday. The temperature was a warm 23° C in the afternoon, and apart from a slightly dull start to the day, it was a very sunny day with a brilliant blue sky." The only minor difference was that yesterday started bright. I thought I needed to get out early yesterday (I didn't !) because I was expecting a parcel delivery some time in the afternoon (it actually arrived at 5.30pm). To simplify matters I just walked around the local park with an extension that took me past a beer shop. I walked over 2 miles, but probably less than 2.5 miles. You can read about that vagueness, and how I ended up having a few beers with Jodie at home, plus other stuff in my full archive page for today. |
