As correctly predicted by both the Met Office and the BBC (Meteogroup) forecasts, yesterday was hot and sunny. I didn't pay close attention to my thermometers, but I think the prediction of 27° C couldn't have been far off the mark.
very hot
I think today it is worth comparing the Met Office and BBC forecasts.
very hot
Both forecasts tell the same story - almost. There seems some doubt after 4pm, but some sunny periods instead of non stop sunshine, won't be that bad. It seems weird that the Met Office pops in some heavy rain at 6pm. With the temperature climbing to a steamy 33, or even 34° C it could brew up a thunderstorm at 6pm ! I expect to see quite a few revisions to the forecast during the morning to bring the forecasts closer in line to reality. In the hours since I took these screenshots both forecast have had small revisions. The most significant change is to the Met Office (top screenshot). The 60% chance of heavy rain at 6pm has been reduced to a 40% chance of light rain. It seems to be moving closer to the BBC forecast now. There is some disagreement about the amount of sunshine tomorrow. There should be at least sunny spells in the morning, and the afternoon temperature should be a very warm 25° C. Apart from it probably being dry, that is about all that can be said about tomorrow at this time in the morning.

I took yesterday morning fairly easy. I didn't want to rush around too much and overheat, but I wasn't idle. I did several little bits of cleaning and tidying, and preparing things for an afternoon boozing with friends. There wasn't really that much to do to be honest. Mainly it was a bit of dusting, and tidying a few things away. It shouldn't have been needed, but I also tidied up the living room. The thing I did most of was waiting for my second beer delivery.

At lunchtime I was caught between two different trains of thought. One was that it would be a good idea to make sure my stomach was well lined before embarking on a boozing session. There was also the opposing view that I didn't want to eat on a very warm day because it would make me feel even hotter. The easy compromise was a very light, snacking sort of lunch. I then lay on my bed to read for a bit. I could easily have had a nice snooze, and I think I did drop off to sleep briefly, but I had at least one ear waiting for the doorbell to ring.

Michael was first to arrive just after the official start of 3pm. Jodie, as usual, managed to miss a train, but this time was only about 20 minutes late. The beer from the Westerham Brewery got a mixed reception. The not so curious thing was that none of us three could agree on the best and worst beer. I guess we all have different tastes. I think we did agree that they were not the best beers in the world. I think if my local sold nothing but Westerham beers I might change my local.

It didn't take many beers before Michael played a few tunes on my guitar. It was probably enough beers to get Michael mildly drunk, and me too. Both pictures I took of Michael were very poorly composed.

                              guitar
I am not proud of these two snapshots. One thing I am proud of is my guitar. It must have been a year or more ago that I bought a guitar tuner, and tuned all the strings. I can't seem to play guitar (probably because I am tone deaf), and so the guitar had been untouched, in it's case, since I tuned it that last time. I was surprised that 4 of the 6 strings were still perfectly in tune, and the other 2 were so close that Michael didn't bother to correct them. Even if I can't play the guitar, it is nice to have it available for any passing guitarist.

After about  two and a half hours Michael announced he had drunk his fill, and was going home for a hot bath to sweat all the alcohol out. That seemed a strange idea to me, but I guess he knows what he is doing. It was maybe 20 - 30 minute later we got a txt message from him to say he had turned on the bath taps, and forgotten about them. It seems he had a minor flood, but seemed in good humour about it.

In the meantime Jodie hung around to wait for a lift from Mark. They were due to go and eat somewhere, and have more booze...or at least Jodie was planning on drinking more, Mark was driving.  Mark arrived at about 6pm, and my second #beer delivery arrived 5 minutes later. Upon unpacking it I found it rather more exciting than the Westerham Brewery offering. None of the 25 beers was duplicated. The only problem I have is that Jodie thinks she should try each one, and being as many are just 330ml cans there is only enough for a mouthful each. I think Jodie is going to be disappointed because I expect to drink many of the cans or bottles when she is not here.

I had dinner after Jodie and Mark had left. It was at 7pm - a bit later than I usually have dinner. That extra wait, and after drinking beer, made me extra hungry. I ended up eating both chicken shish kebabs saved from the previous nights order, and I ate them cold. They were still nice cold, although some extra chilli sauce did warm them up a bit. I usually find that one shish kebab is not quite enough for dinner, and I usually have something else, but two I would normally consider a bit too much. Last night two seemed just right, and I then went on to have a dessert - low calorie/sugar ice cream !

I went to bed about an hour after dinner, but it took a while before I fell asleep. It was one of those nights when I couldn't seem to find a comfortable position. Once I did get to sleep I slept well until 3am when I woke feeling like I needed to go to the toilet for more than a wee. It seems I did need to go, but it was all perfectly normal, and it wasn't obvious why it couldn't have waited until the morning. It seemed like I couldn't get to sleep properly after that visit to the toilet. It felt like I hardly got to sleep at all, and yet I also seemed to have a lay in (compared to some recent mornings). I guess I was asleep more than I realised.

This morning I don't seem to feel too bad. Maybe I feel slightly sluggish, but that is the nearest thing to a hangover I have. To my great surprise my blood glucose is actually lower still this morning. It was down to 7.2mmol/l, and that is better than my typical monthly average (except this month). I still haven't dared get on the scales again this morning, but Mark, who I haven't seen since the pubs closed over 129 days ago now, said that I was looking noticeably thinner, and healthier than the last time he saw me. I guess the plan is working even if it is excruciatingly slow, and features lots of dips and bumps along the way.

I start the day with one definite plan. That plan is quite simple - water the garden before it gets too hot outside (I.e I probably should have done it a couple of hours ago !). After the garden is watered I have to make a choice between having a shower or just rub a damp flannel over myself. The latter may be preferable on a day when I don't expect to see anyone, and while the shower water is now feeling quite hot as the feed water is now getting water despite coming through underground pipes from wherever the supply come from. I could turn the gas down even further on the water heater....on reflection I probably ought to. There are more potential hot days to come during August.

Once I am clean, whether partly or wholly, and dressed, I will probably go for a walk in the blazing sunshine. I have yet to decide where I will go, and how far I might go. It seems to the thing now that I just decide to start, and then make it up as I go along. I think in this heat I will deserve an ice cream when I get home whether I have walked 2 miles or 6 !
