Lockdown day 161 Shopping embargo day 39 07:31 BST Yesterday started off rather cool, maybe just 12° C, but it did warm up to 18° C early in the afternoon. Mostly it felt OK. Compared to earlier, rather optimistic forecasts, there was little sunshine yesterday. There were often blue patches of sky, but they usually were in the wrong place to let the sun through. It was a dry day except for one single rain drop, but I might have imagined that. Yesterday was a busy day, and quite enjoyable - very enjoyable for a while ! It was also a day that featured some annoying pain. I think I mentioned back ache yesterday morning. It didn't stop me doing two walks adding up to just over 5.5 miles. This involved quite a few pictures, and some video - video of a street gig rather than my attempt at commentary on one of my walks. All the words, all the pictured, and the video, plus my thoughts this morning, and maybe plans for today, are all in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 160 Shopping embargo day 38 08:28 BST The biggest feature of yesterday was how cold it felt - particularly in the morning. The early morning temperature was only 12° C, and by mid afternoon it had only risen to 16° C. I realise that in something like January this would be considered warm, but it felt damn chilly in August ! Rather amazingly the sun did manage to break through the clouds on several occasions, but overall it was a dull day. There was some rain in the early morning, and more in the evening. I think I may have woken up after a bad night's sleep partly uncovered yesterday morning. My body temperature was just 34.9° C, and so I was possibly more sensitive to feeling cold. I fought the feeling for as long as possible, but I was forced to turn the heater on low, and put not only trousers, but a shirt on too. I can't remember when it was, but I also warmed myself a bit with a can of hot chicken soup. My body temperature showed I did not have a fever, very far from it, but I did seem to go through all the symptoms of a cold in the space of a couple of hours yesterday morning. It was the preface to another very lazy day, even though all the cold symptoms went away after I warmed up a bit. I describe all this, plus more boring, or inconsequential stuff from yesterday and this morning, in my full archive page for today. |

29th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 159 Shopping embargo day 37 08:05 BST After some early morning rain, yesterday enjoyed many hours of sunny intervals. The showers eventually returned much later than expected in the afternoon. None of those showers could really be described as heavy, although occasionally it was more than a light shower. I might have heard one clap of thunder, but nothing locally, and it might have just been someone dropping the lid of a wheelie bin. The rain, even of not heavy, was persistent enough to give the garden a good watering, and it continues on and off through the whole night. In the sunshine it felt warm, but otherwise it was almost a cold day with the temperature only rising to 17° C for a while. I had no idea that yesterday morning would turn out as sunny as it was. There was nothing in the forecast to suggest it would be so, but I still felt the urge to get out for a walk, and it seemed perfectly reasonable that I wouldn't need a coat, or any other protection. I think the sun popped out just as I was leaving, and maybe that felt like a good omen. After not getting any exercise for 6 days apart from one short walk, that was very uncomfortable, I wondered how yesterday's walk would go. I felt a bit creaky when I started out, and I wondered how long it would take for that muscle on the rear of my right thigh to start complaining. It didn't, and that was good news. It turned out to be an enjoyable walk, and covered new ground on a walk that was very close to 5 miles. There is the usual map, pictures, and another video of the walk, plus a description of my day, my night, and how this morning seems to be, in my full archive page for today. |

28th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 158 Shopping embargo day 36 07:38 BST The forecast rain arrived yesterday. The morning featured some sunny spells, and then they continued into the afternoon when it was predicted to be pouring with heavy rain. The rain actually started to fall in noticeable amounts around 4pm. I don't think it was ever what I would call heavy rain, but it was certainly persistent. I think it continued until the early hours of this morning judging by how wet everything is this morning. Not only did the rain seem unseasonal, but so did the temperature. It only reached 17° C for a while, and 16° C was probably more representative of the day, but definitely not for August. Yesterday was worse than
the day before. I just could not raise the
enthusiasm to do anything at all except for a brief
bit of cooking before dinner time. I discuss some
probable reasons for this depression, and describe
the rest of my day, my dinner, my sleep, and how I
feel this morning in my full archive page for
today.

Lockdown day 157 Shopping embargo day 35 07:24 BST Yesterday was dry, mostly bright, and occasionally sunny. The afternoon temperature was about 21° C. I just thought a reminder of what it was like this time last year might be interesting - very different weather !! It took me an awful long time to get going yesterday. Until lunchtime I just lay on my bed reading.I stopped reading to take in another delivery. This time it was rice crackers. I tried them with my new chilli sauce. I think it was getting on for 3pm before I started painting another wall in my dining room. It was a bit of a messy job. I describe all this in greater detail, with pictures, along with what I did after I finished painting, plus how my sleep was not ideal, and my thoughts this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
Wednesday
26th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 156 Shopping embargo day 34 07:42 BST Yesterday's weather came in two halves. The morning was very wet, and the afternoon featured sunny spells. Through most of the day it was very windy. It was still very mild with the temperature peaking at around 21° C for a short time. It was gloomy and damp yesterday morning, but I still wanted to get out for a walk to stretch my legs. My other ambition was to see how deep the river was after the rain, and also whether it had finally started running through the man made stream across old playing field in Ladywell Fields. It was still very lightly raining when I went out. I had only intended to walk to Ladywell and back, and so it would really matter if the rain persisted, or even got a little heavier. The rain didn't feel particularly cold, and I didn't bother with a coat. Maybe I can blame the damp, but it was a painful walk despite being only 1.4 miles. That was all I intended to do before I even went out. I achieved all my objectives of my walk, and then went on to do other stuff. From late afternoon things went downhill. I have accompanied the description of my walk with another video shot while out. That, along with the annoyances from late afternoon, and all the usual stuff, including all I have to say up to this point this morning, is in my full archive page for today. |
Tuesday
25th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 155 Shopping embargo day 33 08:25 BST Yesterday's weather forecast got everything right, but in the wrong order, and at the wrong times ! All the sunny spells were in the morning, and they continues until a little after midday. The heavy rain, originally forecast for 10am actually fell closer to 3pm. It wasn't a hot day, but after a cool start the temperature rose to 21° C. There may have been a brief sunny spell or two late in the afternoon, but it was becoming increasingly cloudy, and mid even saw more rain start to fall. Yesterday was a day that worked out well even though I hadn't planned it that way. I did have a desire to be very careful with what I ate, but I never expected that I would end up fasting until dinner time at 6pm. I ended up having quite a busy day, and achieved far more than I ever expected. It would have health benefits as well as being quite satisfying. I describe my day, night, and this morning with pictures of some of the stuff I did in my full archive page for today. |
Monday
24th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 154 Shopping embargo day 32 08:05 BST I'm not sure how to describe yesterday's weather. It was a day when I wasn't paying a great deal attention to the outside world. I know the morning was initially very sunny, and I am sure I can remember sunny spells in the afternoon. The thick cloud forecast for early afternoon happened, but I don't think it lasted for the 4 hours shown in the forecast. There were a few spots of rain fell in the afternoon, but not enough to water the garden. The afternoon temperature was about 21° C. I was partly constrained with what I could do yesterday because of waiting for two deliveries. Even if I wasn't, the dark gloomy weather predicted for early afternoon put me off going for a walk. In fact it wasn't as bad as the forecast suggested in the end. I stayed at home, did a few jobs around the house and garden, and I ate too much. I also sampled some beers. My day is described, and illustrated with some pictures, in my full archive page for today. It also describes the result of eating a very tasty dinner that I knocked together without a recipe - the results this morning were not good, and I have made some observations of what I ought to, and what I probably will do today. |
Sunday
23rd August 2020 |
Lockdown day 153 Shopping embargo day 31 09:27 BST The weather forecast didn't quite match reality yesterday. During the morning some of the forecast light cloud turned out to be thick and dark grey. The sunny spells for 9am turned up at about 11am, and then continued with very long spells of sunshine until 1pm which was when the next sunny spells had been forecast. That is when it rained - on a day when no rain was forecast. Admittedly it was just a 5 minute light shower, but.... There were more sunny periods after that, but I paid little attention to when, and for how long they may have lasted once I was indoors. One other feature was wind. It wasn't as strong as the day before, but it did get quite gusty at times. Even in the wind, 22° C felt quite comfortable. |
Saturday
22nd August 2020 |
Lockdown day 152 Shopping embargo day 30 08:53 BST The weather was very variable yesterday. Sometimes it was sunny, and more often it was really gloomy and dull. It even rained for a while - unfortunately too brief and too light to water the garden. At about 22° C it would have felt warm except for some strong winds that lasted through much of the day. I was initially quite keen to go for a walk yesterday morning. I had an approximate route planned that would take me to places I hadn't been to for a very long time, and definitely had not explored them on foot, but by the time I was ready to go out the sky looked like mud, and I found myself losing enthusiasm so fast that before I had got my socks on I had given up. I didn't completely waste the day. I did some useful jobs, and read many more pages of the book I am currently reading. I describe my day, it's ups and downs, and how I could have died from botulism, plus my thoughts and aches and pains this morning in my full archive page for today. |
Friday
21st August 2020 |
Lockdown day 151 Shopping embargo day 29 07:39 BST It was nice yesterday. There were some sporadic sunny spells in the morning, but the afternoon was almost all sunshine. The forecast said non stop sunshine until sunset, but I am sure there were times when an occasional cloud passed in front of the sun. Even if it wasn't perfect sunshine it was bright and warm. In fact in direct sunshine the sun felt very hot, but the air temperature only reached about 24° C. There was hot sunshine as I set out on my walk yesterday. I didn't have set route, and I made up a lot of it as I went along. My only objective was to arrive in Lewisham Park just after 1pm in the hope of meeting Angela in there. On this occasion I sent her a text message just after midday to say I would be passing through the park, and would stop for a chat if she was there. I didn't see Angela, and nor did she even acknowledge my message. That left me feeling miserable in the evening. My walk covered 4.1 miles, and it was an eye opener as to how close some places are that previously seemed much more distant. I say more about my walk, and illustrate it with a selection of pictures, plus there is commentary of my afternoon, evening, night, and this morning in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday
20th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 150 Shopping embargo day 28 08:23 BST Yesterday was wet, sometimes very wet. Well, the garden needed it, and I needed a rest. Just 20° C felt slightly cool. The dark grey sky, drizzle, and a hangover combined to make for a day with no ambitions yesterday. I don't think I did any more than just laying on my bed reading (and drinking water to cure my hangover) all morning. I did eventually do a limited amount of housework in the afternoon, and I spent a while checking, and editing some of my old video of gigs in 2016 to 2018. All the details, but no pictures, or video, are described in my full archive page for today that also includes my thoughts about this morning. |
Wednesday
19th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 149 Shopping embargo day 27 08:14 BST Most of the promised rain never fell yesterday - I had to water some droopy plants during the afternoon. It was a generally dull day, but it still reached 22° C, and now and then the sun put in an appearance. I felt strangely keen to go for a walk once I was ready yesterday. I wanted to test a pair of lightweight trainers rather than boots, and that meant mainly sticking to paved paths and roads. Curiously enough they seemed more comfortable than boots for walking up hills, but more uncomfortable when walking down hills ! While I had no special place in mind to walk to, there was a short cut I wanted to try.The short cut lead me to Brockley & Ladywell Cemetery in what seemed like record time, and from there I walked to the top of Hilly Fields with ease. That walk is described in pictures and words in my full archive page for today. I also describe how, thanks to a visit from Jodie, I ended up with a hangover today, and how because of the hangover and the terrible wet and gloomy weather I intend to do as little as possible today. |
Tuesday
18th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 148 Shopping embargo day 26 08:09 BST Yesterday's forecast thunderstorm never happened, but it did rain just enough to water the garden. Until about 10.30am it was generally bright and sunny, although there were a lot of dark clouds in the sky. It probably was around 11am that the first rain fell. This is when the original, early morning, forecast said it would, but instead of a thunderstorm it was initially very fine and light rain. Maybe 15 minutes later it transformed into a light shower, although I did describe it as pissing down in my video. It stopped 30 minutes, or less, later. there were a few other showers during the afternoon, but none were heavy. There were a few more bright spells in the afternoon, and into the evening. The temperature probably only reached 21° C in the afternoon. I thought the weather forecast would put me off going out yesterday, but later revisions to the forecast seemed less threatening, and so I thought I would go out for a short walk. I ended up walking 3.2 miles, and I only stopped going further because the boots I was giving another test were, once again, making my feet sore. I have illustrated my commentary on the day with video and quite a few pictures. It can all be found on my full archive page for today. It also includes my thoughts this morning. |
Monday
17th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 147 Shopping embargo day 25 07:40 BST Yesterday morning started of very slightly hazy, but it was too high in the sky to be called mist. From time to time there were sunny spells through the morning, but no sign of rain. So I watered the garden. An hour or tow later the first rain fell, but less than forecast, and while I might have heard a very short peal of semi-distant thunder, there was no lightning seen, and no heavy rain that might have triggered a thunderstorm. The afternoon temperature reached 23° C, and it felt warmer than the day before. Yesterday morning I had high hopes that I might suddenly decide to go out for a walk. I felt I should do, but I didn't feel in the right mood for it. It's hard to say why I felt like that. The weather was OK, and I felt reasonably OK, but maybe I was bored going over the same routes, and I couldn't think of somewhere new to explore. In the end it got later and later, and the inspiration never arrived so I stayed at home. My time wasn't wasted, and I did some housework, and fair bit of gardening. There is a picture of my potato harvest, and a description of my day, and this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
16th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 146 Shopping embargo day 24 08:30 BST One thing for certain is that there was no need to water the garden yesterday. There was a lot of rain showers - some heavyish, and some little more than drizzle - dotted around during a very grey day. The biggest surprise was how cold it felt early in the afternoon. At any other time 19 to 20° C would feel good, but compared to 33° C it was chilly. The temperature eventually reached 23° C. Yesterday was one of those odd days where I didn't really do much, but the day seemed too short. I was trying to psyche myself up to go for a walk, and I probably would have if it were not for two linked problems. As I was close to going out, just after 11am, I had another long rambling phone call from my friend Lee. It may have been good that he delayed me for over an hour because towards the end of the call I was beginning to feel slightly uncomfortable. My guts were feeling a bit volatile. I stayed in and eat too much according to my weight, but all the correct stuff according to my blood glucose level. I seemed to write quite a bit about yesterday, and I also wrote some stuff about my stay in hospital. I was discharged from hospital, and left the same way I arrived - on foot - exactly a year ago today. All this, plus some hospital pictures, are in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
15th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 145 Shopping embargo day 23 08:10 BST The weather is changing so fast recently that no forecast seems to come close to reality. The Met Office forecast seemed to get closer and closer to reality with each revision, but was probably still off by a few hours. Yesterday morning was overcast, but dry. A check on the latest revision just before I went out at midday said there was an 80% chance of rain. In fact the rain didn't start until a couple of hours later. After a while it dried up again, and once again I was left wondering if I should get the hose out and water the garden, but it wasn't too long before it was raining again. From then on it was hard to keep track of whether it was raining or not. The rain continued for unknown lengths of time, with unknown gaps between showers, for much of the evening, and probably through the night. The maximum temperature may have only been 23° C, but until the rain seemed to freshen the air it felt very sticky. It felt really good to give my hair a good wash and condition, plus give my body a good scrubbing (not literally !) under the shower yesterday morning. Before that I felt horrible and greasy after not having a proper wash the day before, and and after so many sweaty days. Meanwhile, outside it was all horrible and grey, but it was at least dry. The latest forecast said at midday there was an 80% chance of rain, and yet it didn't really look like it would rain - although I can't say why I thought that. The sky was horrible and grey, and so there was the potential for rain. Maybe I just thought I would be lucky, and it seems I was when I decided to go for some exercise. I ended up doing a 4.59 mile walk. I only took a few pictures because I was treading a well worn route, but I did make a video featuring a few places on my walk. The pictures and video, plus some commentary on the rest of my day, and my thoughts this morning, are all on my full archive page for today. |
Friday
14th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 144 Shopping embargo day 22 09:06 BST Yesterday's weather was very variable, but never quite matched any revision of any forecast. There was a light splash of rain in the morning, but that gave way to sunny spells - very long ones if I recall correctly. It is hard to put times to it because the changes were slow, but early in the afternoon the sky to the south darkened, and it wasn't long before very distant thunder were heard. There was one brief light shower, but nothing more happened. Maybe around 5pm, or perhaps a bit earlier, the sun came out again. More rain, and possibly thunderstorms were forecast for late evening, but if anything the sky looked even clearer, and nothing happened. Despite the maximum temperature only reaching 27° C, it was still a very sticky day. The night seemed fresher though. As I explained yesterday morning, my movements were constrained while I waited for my delivery of cans of Guinness. It turned out to be a longer wait than expected. As I mentioned yesterday, I had seen the delivery van outside, but the driver couldn't seem to find my booze, and just drove off with leaving a message or anything. It took some time to get through to the depot to ask what was happening, perhaps what was going to happen. The lady at the other end took my details, and said she would try and contact the driver, and then phone me back. My Guinness was finally delivered at about 1pm. From then on I could relax. All the other details for the rest of the day, a brief description of a rather wonderful dream, and my thoughts this morning are all in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday
13th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 143 Shopping embargo day 21 08:33 BST There was a little less sunshine yesterday, or maybe it would be more accurate to say that sometimes it was hazy sunshine filtering through some very thin clouds. Those clouds were supposed to thicken enough to bring rain and thunderstorms. They didn't ! It was another hot and dry day. The temperature probably peaked slightly above the forecast 31° C. I wanted to go for some sort of walk yesterday to ease some of the stiffness of doing almost nothing the day before. I had an idea I might walk in the direction of Crofton Park station because I had never walked that way before. That is what I did, but without intending to go there I also found Brockley & Ladywell cemetery. I had only briefly glimpsed it when passing the Ladywell end, and I never realised how big it was, and how old parts of it are. It was a very taxing walk despite being only just over 4 miles, on account of the high humidity. As usual there are a selection of pictures, plus another pointless video showing some of my progress, in my full archive page for today. It also includes a description of my morning up to the point of writing this - it includes the (so far) non delivery of my Guinness ! |
Wednesday
12th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 142 Shopping embargo day 20 08:33 BST It was hot and sunny yesterday. The temperature hit 33° C, and the possible thunderstorms never happened. It wasn't always sunny, but what clouds there were, were light clouds, and didn't hang around long. This is my description for the day before yesterday, but describes yesterday as well. I was constrained as to what I could do yesterday until I had two packets delivered. I took advantage of that to be quite lazy, and it was probably deserved after my very long walk in the heat the day before. It was early afternoon when my two packets arrived - my new soda syphon, and the CO² charges for it. I now have delicious fizzy water on tap ! I may not have done much yesterday, but I seemed to have written a fair bit about my day, and, as usual, my thoughts this morning all in my full archive page for today. |
Tuesday
11th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 141 Shopping embargo day 19 08:18 BST It was hot and sunny yesterday. The temperature hit 33° C, and the possible thunderstorms never happened. It wasn't always sunny, but what clouds there were, were light clouds, and didn't hang around long. I knew I had to take a walk yesterday for the sake of my health. I didn't predict it would be a long walk, but by the time I was ready to go out I had the crazy idea of walking to Blackheath again. I did get a sort of thrill walking there last time. It seemed sort of remote, and the idea I could not only get there, but get back again on foot seemed amazing (for limited amounts of amazing). I took a different route, and one I regret. I used the same route as the bus, but that was a just a very long hill that seemed to go on forever. Anyway, I made it and it turned out to be my longest walk for maybe 10 years. There are some pictures taken along the way, plus a video of progress reports at various points in the walk, plus the usual comments on the picture, what I did after the walk, how I slept, and my thoughts this morning, all in my full archive page for today. |
Monday
10th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 140 Shopping embargo day 18 07:45 BST It wasn't until late afternoon that it felt to be particularly hot yesterday. The morning was quite fresh, and even by midday it only felt warm. By 4pm the temperature had crept up to 31° C, and by then it did feel hot. It was sunny for most of the day, but early morning started off cloudy. My prediction that I probably would not go for a walk yesterday turned out to be correct. I couldn't seem to raise the enthusiasm for it. I did have enough enthusiasm to do a few chores though. I did two lots of laundry by hand.Another thing that I almost did, but didn't was to sunbathe in the garden, but while looking for a large towel that I knew I had stashed somewhere I found other things (as well as the towel). There is terrible picture of me wearing an old coat, plus pictures of stuff in the garden, and a vague commentary of my day, plus thoughts this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
9th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 139 Shopping embargo day 17 08:44 BST Yesterday was almost as hot as the day before, but there was a big difference to how it felt. As the Met Office correctly predicted, there was not much sunshine yesterday, and that made a big difference to my bedroom. Being south facing it can get baked in hot sunshine, but yesterday it felt a lot cooler than the day before, although the thermometer in my bedroom said it was only a degree or two cooler. Another thing that is obvious with hindsight, was that with the sun not heating up anything it touched, such as the ground, brickwork, or roof, everything cooled down a lot faster in the night. Yesterday morning I was feeling tired, and although I speculated that I might end up going for a walk, I didn't. I just felt lazy.....or maybe it wasn't lazy but just ordinary tired. There wasn't that much to describe, but the full story of yesterday, plus my thoughts this morning are in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
8th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 138 Shopping embargo day 16 08:02 BST Yesterday can simply be described as hot ! The highest temperature I saw on my thermometer was 33° C. That was a degree less than the forecast, but maybe that was because the sunshine failed after 4pm when clouds started to roll in. It wasn't a complete coverage, and it stayed dry - except for the humidity. With little sunshine heating the front of the house my bedroom temperature dropped from like a furnace down to a mere oven. It was a hot, sweaty night ! The current prediction for tomorrow is that there won't be full sunshine until about 11am, but then the sun is probably going to blaze down until at least early evening, and the temperature will rise to about 30° C. This coming Monday and Tuesday will also be hot, and possibly very humid to as thunderstorms brew up. Both the Met Office and BBC predict thunderstorms for both Monday and Tuesday. Oh well, at least I won't have to water the garden on those days....probably. The first thing I did
yesterday was to water the garden. I was a bit
dismayed to find my garden seemed to have been the
toilet for several cats and a fox. The cats had
left about 5 unburied poos in the flower beds, and
the fox had a dump in the middle of the lawn
! I think it was maybe the night before I
was thinking that my lawn was sufficiently lawn
like, albeit deficient in some ways, that I could
take a ground sheet out there, and lie in the sun.
That idea seemed a lot less attractive yesterday
morning ! After watering the garden I had a
shower, and slowly got myself ready to go for a
walk. I knew there was a certain madness going out
on the hottest day I can remember, but it was that
madness that appealed to me. I like walking in the
sunshine, but maybe over 30° C is pushing it a
bit. I went out anyway, and wondered just
how far I could walk in the heat. On this rare
occasion I even took a bottle of chilled water
with me. The details of my walk are revealed,
along with pictures and video, and the rest of my
day, plus thoughts this morning, in my full
archive page for today.

7th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 137 Shopping embargo day 15 08:07 BST It ended up feeling quite warm yesterday. I think the temperature reached the 28° C forecast, and possibly for a bit longer than the brief period forecast for 6pm. The morning featured some thick cloud, but by late morning the sunny periods started, and they seemed to continue through the afternoon. The forecast said that the sun would shine with no interruptions from 5pm, but I think it was still just sunny periods even if some of those periods were very long ! Yesterday was
almost a day of rest. I did contemplate going for
a walk in the morning, but after walk 11 miles in
the two previous days I thought I deserved a rest.
I didn't completely rest, and my after was quite
busy. Jodie came over to drink my German beers ! I
seem to have written quite a lot about doing
little, and so it must be important stuff, in my full
archive page for today. As
usual it includes my thoughts this morning.

6th August 2020 |
Lockdown day 136 Shopping embargo day 14 07:36 BST After some early morning cloud evaporated away it became a nice day yesterday. A few clouds did dim the sun a few times in the afternoon - the forecast said there would be no clouds at all - but it was generally warm and sunny with as much as three quarters of the sky a beautiful blue. For all that, it only reached about 24° C yesterday, and there was some strong wind in exposed places making it feel cooler still. I finished yesterday by
saying I had this insane idea of going for another
long walk, and thinking I might even make it to
Blackheath. I did have a optimistic idea that if I
could make it I could visit all four ponds on
Blackheath (I may have mentioned 5 ponds once, but
there are just 4 ponds. The problem with this plan
was that the final part of the walk to Blackheath
is uphill, and some of those hills were bloody
steep ! Nevertheless, that is exactly what I did -
all 6 miles of it. The last mile home was a bit of
a slog, but most of it was enjoyable, and it
didn't completely exhaust me. I've written more
about the walk, and included video and pictures,
and I also write about my evening, plus my
thoughts this morning in my full
archive page for today.

Lockdown day 135 Shopping embargo day 13 08:24 BST Yesterday's weather more or less followed the Met Office prediction. After a cool start some strong sunshine warmed things up a bit. Then there was quite a few hours of just sunny spells, sometimes with long gaps between them, before the sky cleared enough to give more sunshine for late afternoon/early evening. With the temperature only reaching 22° C, it was not a particularly warm day, but once the morning chill was over it was pleasant enough. I felt lousy yesterday
morning. After a day of too much rest I felt quite
painfully creaky. Most of the pain, although
discomfort might be a better description than
pain, was in my upper body. My legs did feel a bit
stiff, but it was my neck, shoulders, and upper
back that seemed a lot worse. Some might say it
was all a symptom of Covid-19, and maybe it was,
but who really knows ? I knew the cure was
to get active again, and so I prepared to go out
for a walk. Before doing so I had a shower, and
then I watered the garden. Then I had to grit my
teeth to get myself out the door, and moving. I
can't say I had a definite destination in mind,
but I had a notion I'd like to travel east for
this walk. I did travel east, covering some ground
I had never visited before, including Manor House
Gardens. There is a better description, plus
pictures and video of my walk, and how I fared
after it in my full archive page
for today, which also includes
my thoughts about how I fell, and what I might do
today.

Lockdown day 134 Shopping embargo day 12 08:25 BST It turned out that the BBC (Meteogroup) weather forecast turned out to be very close to reality yesterday. There were sunny spells for much of the day, although there were some quite dense clouds in the sky in the evening. It really looked like it might rain in the evening, but as per the forecast, it stayed dry. The temperature reached 21° C by late afternoon. I started out with good intentions yesterday. I decided I would rest my damaged toe, and my slightly sore feet, and not go for a long walk. Instead I had some bold ideas for doing stuff at home. I even imagined painting another wall in the dining room. I ended up doing a few important things, but they didn't add up to much. I didn't do more because I was feeling very fragile. The top of me ached when after my walk the previous day my bottom half should have ached. I have written about my day, not that there was much to write about, and how I am perplexed this morning by another example of my blood glucose and weight heading in opposite directions. It is all in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 133 Shopping embargo day 11 07:24 BST It was nice yesterday, or at least it was nice when it was most usefully nice. The day started bright and sunny, as per the forecasts, but once again it was the more optimistic BBC forecast (that I didn't show yesterday) that turned out to be closer to reality. For most of the afternoon there were extended sunny spells, and maybe they continues into early evening, but I wasn't paying that much attention to the outside by then. It was a pleasant 22 or maybe even 23° C in the afternoon, and there was a nice breeze to keep things cool when walking uphill. After being so bored and listless on Saturday I knew I had to do something more constructive yesterday. I was spurred on by early morning sunshine, and wasn't too deterred by the forecast saying it could be overcast by the afternoon. Maybe I didn't really believe that the forecast could be correct - and it wasn't ! Before I went out I watered the garden, and I suppose doing that helped me get the feel of the weather - and it was good. I ended up doing a 5.3 mile walk, and on this occasion I had a specific route and destination in mind. It was Beckenham Place Park. I describe it more, with pictures and a video, in my full archive page for today. It also included some extra commentary about the rest of my day, plus my thoughts about this morning. |

Lockdown day 132 Shopping embargo day 10 09:04 BST Yesterday was not a nice day. It started nice with bright sunshine, but just as the forecast predicted, it clouded over to become grey and nasty before the morning was over. The forecast rain for 6pm didn't happen, and there were a scattering of sunny periods later in the afternoon, but it was still very uninspiring. At least it was warm with an afternoon reaching 24° C. The only constructive
thing I did yesterday was to water the garden. The
rest of the day was very inactive while trying to
decide if I was fatigued, tired or depressed. It
was most probably all three. You can read my
thoughts about this, and vague description of my
vague day, and vague thoughts about today in my full
archive page for today.

Lockdown day 131 Shopping embargo day 9 08:36 BST Yesterday can only be described as very hot ! The temperature reached 34° C, and the sun was shining down like a blast furnace, but only until later afternoon. By 5pm it was getting quite cloud, and by 6pm it was very dull outside. Several revisions to the forecasts (both BBC and Met Office) said that it might rain at 6pm or 9pm, and that there would probably be a thunderstorm some time in the evening or night. It actually stayed dry, but the ingredients for a thunderstorm, heat, thick dense cloud, and that sort of tension in the air were all there. |
