The last of the current spell of rain
probably gave it's last gasp sometime in the
small hours of this morning. For the last hour
it has been sunny, but it may cloud over for a
few hours, and only give a few sunny spells.
The afternoon should see a return to glorious
sunshine again, and while 24° C is not that
high it should feel lovely and warm in the
afternoon. The BBC's weather forecast again
agrees with the Met Office forecast, but they
diverge tonight when the latest revision to
the Met Office forecast predicts light rain
from about 9pm. Tomorrow may be a couple of
degrees cooler, and most, but not all, the
sunshine will come as sunny spells. It should
be dry.
The dark grey sky, drizzle, and a
hangover combined to make for a day with no
ambitions yesterday. I don't think I did any
more than just laying on my bed reading (and
drinking water to cure my hangover) all
morning. During the afternoon, the drizzle
sometimes became heavier rain, and I became
very certain I wouldn't have to water the
garden. Despite it looking awful outdoors, I
began to feel a bit bored, and I ended up
doing some useful little jobs.
Probably the most important job I did
was to wash, and in some cases, remove some
limescale stains from quite a few glasses. All
the glasses were basically clean, but quite a
few had only been given a brief rinse since
last use, and some had been sitting on the
draining board for a week or so. The latter
had been splashed with water, and they needed
some vinegar to clean off the limescale where
the water splashes had dried off.
To make drying those glasses easier I
spread a tea towel on the work surface away
from the sink. Before doing that I decided to
clean that work surface because it was looking
a bit grubby. In doing so I set myself up for
a future job. The rear of that work surface is
covered in bottles and jars of sauces and
spices etc. Since not doing any shopping
(for 4 weeks now) they are beginning to thin
out a bit. They are 3 or 4 deep, and there is
all sorts of detritus between those at the
very back - some of those bottles have not
been moved in years. Sometime soon, possibly
even this afternoon, I shall have a grand
clean up there, and see what can be thrown
out.
I spent some time in the afternoon
looking for a video that I was sure I had
shot, but if I did it seems to be shot. It
should have featured Terri Masters, girlfriend
of Dylan Tidman - drummer who has drummed for
many bands. Terri is also a drummer, although
I think it is, or was, just a hobby. I was
contacted by her to see if I had any video of
the few times I have seen her drumming. I did
have one where she was guest drummer, possibly
just for one song, for The Dirty Perks.
What I was really looking for was some
video of one of the really fun gigs that used
to happen in a half (or more) empty Black Cat
back in 2016 to 2018. I think it was a Stone
Blind gig, and Dylan was the drummer. During
one song he beckoned Terri over, and she took
over without missing a beat. It probably
couldn't happen elsewhere, but with a small
and intimate audience, all sorts of fun was
had.
I never did find any video of that, but
I did find something else. It was a previously
unedited, and hence unused, video of The Life
Of Brian performing Ballroom Blitz as their
last song of the evening. It also featured
Angela dancing by herself, and with Dan (from
MT Pockets), and someone else - something she
is now forbidden to do by that well known
puritan Lover Boy. It didn't worry me because
I knew who she was going home with - me ! I
think it is possible it was the first time I
had stayed at her place.
I spent a bit of time trying to improve
both the picture and sound as I edited it to
upload to a social media site. I tagged it
with all the names of people I could identify,
and uploaded it. One name was a man in the
audience, well known to all except Lover Boy.
It could be interpreted to read as if I was
saying this other man was in the band, but the
same could be said others I named. Lover Boy
posted a sarcastic remark listing the members
of the band, and saying this other man was
nothing to do with it. I think he made himself
look a prat. Angela did make one comment to
the effect of "did this really happen ?". She
was so happy in those days, and I can imagine
she may have even privately shed a little tear
when she was reminded of how she used to be a
free woman, and not held on a leash like she
is these days.
At lunchtime I thought it was time to
try a jar of big beans and sliced Polish
Sausage I had bought from Aldi sometime late
last year. I think I was saving it for a
special occasion because I expected it to be
really good. Sadly it wasn't. It was actually
a little bland, and there was considerably
less sausage in it than it looked when the jar
was unopened. I think that while in the jar
the sausage didn't look to be sliced wafer
thin. I can imagine one single British banger
being sliced into 200 thin slices, and and
about 15 placed in each jar.
After that disappointing lunch I was
really looking forward to dinner. It was to be
double kebab less the pitta bread that I
didn't eat. It was better and worse than I
thought. One was a chicken kebab, and was
nothing special. I ought to add at this point
that for both kebabs I scraped off the salad
before microwaving the meat for a few minutes.
I then scraped the sald back onto the meat. I
am unsure who made the mistake, but the second
kebab was not lamb shish kebab, but lamb doner
kebab (otherwise known as mystery meat kebab).
It was actually very nice, but it was also
quite greasy, and so bad for me.
I did consider a couple of cans of
Guinness last night, but in the end I opted to
use up the last 2 inches of vodka left in the
bottle as a night cap. It must have worked
because I think I slept mostly OK last night.
I even managed to stay awake until 6.35am this
morning. It is a peculiar thought that
out of all the times you may wake up through
the night, there is only one time when you
know it is time to get up - no matter how much
you would really like to sleep more.
This morning, after a day of rest
(mostly) I feel possibly better than is usual
these days - nothing
that creaky, or
nothing in particular that hurts. Even my
blood glucose was very satisfactory, but I
don't think we will discuss my weight this
morning. It is evident that I have been living
the high life recently, and it is time to cut
back again,
and to get some exercise.
I was almost thinking of trying to meet up
with, or "accidently" bump into Angela at
lunchtime. I may still contrive to be in the
park during her lunch break, but I don't think
I will try and see her in the pub. It should
be bright and sunny during her lunchbreak, and
so she may elect to sit in the park today. I'm
not sure where I might walk that will take me
through the park at the right time, and I'll
just make up something along the way.
