Yesterday started cold, but sunny. Gradually it clouded over, and at times it became very dull. I paid little attention to the outside during the afternoon, and so all I can really say is that I think there were a few sunny spells, and I think there was a light shower or two, but nothing was significant enough to burn itself into my memory. I can't even be sure that the temperature reached 12° C, but I'm sure it wasn't far off that.
a damp day

As usual, the forecast is changing hour by hour, and anything I write here could be wrong in a few hours. What is certain is that today started off feeling every bit as cold as the predicted 8° C. I didn't notice any hint of sunshine earlier, but it was looking damp outside. The earlier forecast, as in the screenshot above, says light rain, and that seems accurate, but the latest revision says heavy rain should falling now, and at 10am as well. Maybe the rain will get heavier, but there is enough to make it look horrible outside right now. The chance of rain is now shown to gradually get less and less as the afternoon progresses, but doesn't fall to zero. The temperature may rise to 14° C this afternoon. Tomorrow may start off bright, but even tomorrow may succumb to rain by early afternoon, and it will probably be a degree or two cooler.

Going shopping in Aldi yesterday morning must have been a sufficient thrill (?) to amuse me for the whole day because I didn't feel inclined to really do anything more for the rest of the day - with one exception. I did seem to eat a lot ! At least that is how it felt, but the evidence this morning is that I was more careful than I though. I wonder if that will be true of today as well ? Possibly not !

As I wrote yesterday, my breakfast was a tub of lower (than typical) sugar and calorie ice cream. That was a nice thrill, but like all nice thrills, it wasn't long before I wanted another. I did manage to wait until lunch time for my next "thrill". It was a whole packet of non-frozen fish fingers that I grilled, and liberally dowsed in tomato ketchup watered down with vinegar to give an extra acid kick.

Later on I would have a couple of snacks. One was a small pile of freshly bought black peppered cashew nuts. The other was a couple of really delicious small coxes apples with a chunk of Red Leicester cheese. They were the first apples I have had in ages, and so that added an extra thrill on top of Coxes apples probably being my favourite type of apple. I'm sure I must have had another nibble of something or another before dinner time. Maybe it is just my guilty conscience nagging me.

After eating the fish fingers I decided to have a very light dinner. In a way I reversed lunch and dinner because  I had two cans of soup for dinner. One can was a green pea soup. That should have been nice, but there was something else in the recipe that gave it an earthy taste. The second can was a chunky beef soup. All the vegetables, which far outweighed the few bits of gristle, made that soup more like a dinner in a can. Later on I would have some chilli flavoured peanuts (also just bought from Aldi).

Apart from eating I did very little, but I did, sort of, achieve quite a lot. Yesterday I mentioned the box of mostly promo CDs I had pulled out of hiding, and had started to rip them to mp3 files. Yesterday I completed that job. In total there were just over 60 CDs, but a few of those were more like EPs with just 2 or 3 tracks on them. It wasn't exactly a taxing job, but having to pay attention to the process, and change the CD every 5 or 10 minutes meant I couldn't fully relax.

Maybe it was because of the bad sleep I had recently that I really did feel tired when I went to bed last night. I was reading in bed for a while, and I am not sure what time I turned the light out, but when I did I seemed to fall asleep very quickly. It seemed like I woke up in the night a bit more often than usual, but I can't recall any time when I was awake for more than 10 minutes. I seemed to have some long and vivid dreams, and that suggests my sleep was often very light, but I reckon I got more than a full 8 hours sleep.

I woke up this morning just before dawn, and I seem to recall that I felt not too bad - just the usual need to stretch stiff muscles and joints. Several hour later and I feel much the same - not good, but not bad either.  If I turn the heat up on the shower so it is nice and hot again (it has been getting cooler day by day as the weather gets cooler - this is normal in my system) I may feel quite good after a liberal dowsing in hot water.

The best thing about this morning is that while it may not feel it, all my measurements show my health is improving. Despite believing I had eaten far too much yesterday, my blood glucose has dropped to just 7.2mmol/l. Evidently I was far more careful about what I ate than I thought I was. Best of all is that this time my weight has followed my blood glucose level, and gone down a little. If only it was a warm sunny day I could go for a long walk, and start getting my weight back to where it was a few weeks ago, but I refuse to go out under a grey and rainy sky.

One part of my day is fixed already. Sometime between 2 and 3pm I am expecting a box of goodies from Star Bargains. It will provide ample opportunities to ruin my blood glucose and weight if I am not careful. Much of it will be almost innocent, and much of it will be for long term use, but I will still have to watch out for the two packets of ginger biscuits in it ! The Pot Noodles are a very unknown quantity, but in theory I will be storing them for much later now that I have broken through the barrier to buy fresh food from Aldi.

There are maybe two more things I will probably do today. One is just a bit of boring laundry. I bought extra supplies of detergent and fabric conditioner yesterday, and so no longer have to ration their use. I might even feel brave and wash the double duvet cover. My other optional pastime that I will almost certainly make a start on, is to try out Devuan Linux. I have never tried it before, but I feel it could be the answer to some problems I have had in getting my mini PC up and running as my spare or main web server box.
