There was very little to cheer about yesterday's weather, although there was one thing that at least deserved some polite applause. The afternoon temperature was quite mild at 16 to 17° C. Other than that it was a very grey day. As far as I can remember, and I wasn't always paying attention to what was happening outdoors, it was a dry day.
black clouds with the potential for heavy
                        rain this afternoon

The most notable thing about this weather forecast is the appearance of black clouds. I can't recall seeing anything worse than dark grey clouds for ages. The latest revision to the forecast only shows black cloud at midday and 1pm. 11am is now shown as dark grey, and maybe just light rain. From 2pm until sunset there is a small chance of sunny intervals, and a fair chance of light showers ! The latest revision has the temperature peaking at 11am today, and it may be no higher than 15° C. From 2pm it will start to cool off, but it seems it will be another almost mild night. Tomorrow may reach 17° C by sunset, but any sunshine is unlikely, while light rain for most of the day is very likely !

A lot of yesterday seems to be a blank in my memory. I think it was because there was not a lot to remember in the morning, and the first hours of the afternoon.Mid afternoon featured a meeting of my "support bubble" - aka The Thursday Club (even if it was a Friday) - or Michael, Jodie, and quite a few bottles of beer. There is little describe about it, it being just drinking and banter, but it is mentioned, along with anything else I could think about saying concerning yesterday, last night, and this morning, in my full archive page for today.

Yesterday was mostly definitely a grey day, but not quite as wet as forecast. The morning featured mostly drizzle rather than heavy rain. There were a few times when the rain was heavier than drizzle, but it was some way off what I would call heavy rain. The afternoon was mostly just dull, but there may have been a few spells of drizzle. By early afternoon the temperature reached 14° C, and it stayed there for the rest of the day, and through the night. I noted one of my outside thermometers reading 14.8° C around 10pm last night.
more rain expected

The most notable thing about this morning was how it was not that cold. The forecast says 15° C, and while I keep forgetting to check that figure here, it seems very believable. What is also very believable is that today is going to be dull and gloomy from dawn to dusk. What is less certain is when it will rain. A few hours of light rain have featured in all revisions of the forecast, but the time keeps changing. The latest revision says it will be between 5 and 7pm, but even then it says there will only be a 50% chance of rain. There is a 20% chance of rain for most of the rest of the afternoon. Two things are possible: It may stay dry all day, or there could be rain at any random time. The latest revision says it will be 15° C all day today, but the screenshot (above), taken much earlier this morning, said that it could be 16° C this afternoon. Curiously enough, an even earlier forecast mentioned 17° C, and that seems to be what one of my outside thermometers is saying right now (although with it sitting on the windowsill of the back bedroom, it's accuracy is dubious). At the moment the forecast for tomorrow looks fairly similar to today, but with one notable difference - the chance of rain in the afternoon is shown as 80 or 90%. A lot could change by then, but at the moment it seems tomorrow is almost certain to be wet !

The main event yesterday was my afternoon boozing session. Michael got waylaid by relatives, and couldn't come (but may come over today), but Jodie came. She brought some cans of beer from a Scottish brewery. Those cans are pictured, along with my beer offerings, and the session described in my full archive page for today. It also has a description of my evening, night, and the start of this morning.

Yesterday started bright, and then there were just sunny spells, and before midday it became mostly rather grey. I can't quite remember when the rain started, but it was later than the last estimate I saw. I think it was probably around 3pm, and although mostly drizzle there was some heavy rain, and even a flash of lightning followed by a peal of thunder. After that it seemed to dry up again. It was not a warm day. The maximum temperature was only around 12° C.
damp start and maybe even damper this
                        afternoon

The heavy rain shown at 8am in the screenshot of the forecast above was actually just intermittent light drizzle. I know this because I was out in it. It does look as if more rain has fallen since, but I don't think I would say I have seen any heavy rain yet. The latest revision to the forecast says there will be heavy rain until midday. Then 1pm will see light rain. After that it will remain very grey, but it could be dry for the rest of the day (and if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you, etc etc.) The temperature is still expected to reach 14° C today, but I have doubts we will notice it being any different to the last couple of days. Tomorrow is currently forecast to be overcast from before dawn to well after dusk. Until about 5pm there is a 10% chance of rain. At 5pm the chance of rain goes up to 50%, and light rain is predicted to fall well into the night. The temperature may reach 16° C tomorrow, but I doubt I'll feel like throwing all the windows open, and airing the house...although maybe I might risk one window.

I wanted to get out for a walk yesterday, but I wasn't sure if I really would, and if I did I predicted it might have just been a couple of miles. There had been some sunshine earlier, and I hoped there might be more when I finally got myself out the front door. There was more sunshine - about 30 seconds of it it total !  I can't say I had any enthusiasm when I finally went out, and I did it purely because I knew I needed to get some exercise before I totally seized up.I describe my walk, and illustrate some of it with pictures, plus there is the usual description of the rest of my day, my night, and what has happened this morning in my full archive page for today.

Yesterday's weather forecast was in a constant state of flux yesterday, and so I cannot rely on yesterday's screenshot of the forecast to jog my memory. I know that the morning was unspeakably dull and wet, but it is the afternoon that I really can't remember properly. I seem to recall that there were a few brief sunny spells, but mostly it was overcast with a few more showers. The afternoon temperature probably was the 14° C that was forecast.
cold and sunny start to today

My thermometers say this morning it was closer to 7° C than the 9° C shown in the screenshot of today's forecast (above). Of course the forecast continues to be revised/updated. It now says it should be 10° C, and I am very sure that is higher than reality. My upstairs, outside thermometer says 8.9° C as I write this, and it is usually cooler down near the garden. The latest update to the forecast has downgraded the morning sunshine to mainly sunny spells, and that is half right. There is a fair bit of rather misty cloud in the sky right now, and every so often the sun is dimmed a bit as a thicker piece of clouds passes in front of it, but so far it hasn't completely blocked the sun. Apparently it could get very dull at midday, with a sprinkle of light rain, but it should brighten up a bit, with even some sunny spells, from 2pm until sunset. Today may reach 13° C. Tomorrow is currently forecast to be exceedingly dull with copious amounts of heavy rain all day long. However it may be slightly warmer, 14° C.

Yesterday was a day of very little action. Even though I had a one hour slot for a parcel delivery from roughly 2 to 3pm, I couldn't relax until the parcel was delivered. It actually arrived just as the one hour slot was about to run out.    Prior to my parcel arriving I spent some time finishing the book I had been reading, and catching up with tech news from https://www.theregister.com/. I did do one other thing, and that was to hand wash the double duvet cover I took off my bed a few days ago.The full description of my day, my evening, a few weird things in the night, and my morning thoughts can be read in my full archive page for today.

Yesterday started cold, but sunny. Gradually it clouded over, and at times it became very dull. I paid little attention to the outside during the afternoon, and so all I can really say is that I think there were a few sunny spells, and I think there was a light shower or two, but nothing was significant enough to burn itself into my memory. I can't even be sure that the temperature reached 12° C, but I'm sure it wasn't far off that.
a
                        damp day

As usual, the forecast is changing hour by hour, and anything I write here could be wrong in a few hours. What is certain is that today started off feeling every bit as cold as the predicted 8° C. I didn't notice any hint of sunshine earlier, but it was looking damp outside. The earlier forecast, as in the screenshot above, says light rain, and that seems accurate, but the latest revision says heavy rain should falling now, and at 10am as well. Maybe the rain will get heavier, but there is enough to make it look horrible outside right now. The chance of rain is now shown to gradually get less and less as the afternoon progresses, but doesn't fall to zero. The temperature may rise to 14° C this afternoon. Tomorrow may start off bright, but even tomorrow may succumb to rain by early afternoon, and it will probably be a degree or two cooler.

Going shopping in Aldi yesterday morning must have been a sufficient thrill (?) to amuse me for the whole day because I didn't feel inclined to really do anything more for the rest of the day - but I did do a few things besides eating ! The whole story, or all that is worth telling by stretching the meaning of "worth" quite a lot, plus the first few hours of this morning is all revealed in my full archive page for today.

The forecast, or should I say the forecasts (plural) for yesterday never seemed to match reality that well. The heavy rain in the morning was correctly forecast, but then it was dry with some occasional visits from the sun, until about mid afternoon. I find the details after that to be a bit vague because I was not really paying much attention to the outside world after the sun went away. I do remember some rain in the late afternoon, and probably some in the evening. I was aware that it felt nice and warm indoors when the sun was shining through my front windows, but outside it was just 12° C.
another uncertain forecast

I feel that today's forecast is going to be no more reliable than the recent day's forecasts. It is almost 10am as I write this, and so far this morning there has been a lot of sunshine, but the sun is now hazy as thin cloud bubbles up around it. The sun seems to have warmed the morning up a bit, but only by a couple of degrees. It is now around 9° C. First thing this morning it as closer to just 7° C. The most recent update to the forecast has got a chance of being correct. It correctly forecast the light cloud that has appeared, and it says there is a 40% chance of rain, but I think it could stay dry. The cloud will get thicker and grey for a while, but this afternoon could be brighter, and there might be an occasional sunny spell. It could be a dry evening. The afternoon temperature will be about the same as yesterday, 12° C. Tomorrow could see a lot of rain falling throughout the day, but it could be a whole degree less cold than today.

The morning rain put me off doing anything outdoors yesterday. Unfortunately it was another case of the morning setting the agenda for the afternoon. There were a few hours in the afternoon when there were cheerful sunny spells - sometime quite long lasting sunny spells. I could have gone out for a walk if I had chosen to do so in the early afternoon, but the morning rain just left me depressed, and I made my mind up to mope all day...sort of. Anyway, Sundays always have been, and will always be, the most boring day of the week. I wasn't completely idle yesterday, and I haven't been idle this morning. Yesterday, including the evening, and how I slept, plus what I have already done this morning (and how I haven't got a clue what I will do next) are all described in my full archive page for today.

My fears that the later revisions of the forecast could be right, and that it would be raining by 11am were unfounded. However, it was very dull, and there were a few showers in the afternoon that would have made a walk a very soggy pastime. I'm not sure if it was at the predicted time of 7pm when the clouds gave up pussyfooting around, and switched from occasional showers to torrential rain. There were gaps in that rain that were not noted in the forecast, but on and off, that rain continued through the night, although maybe it was not quite so heavy from midnight. In theory it was almost warm with the afternoon temperature reaching 16° C, but under a grey sky it did not feel that good to me.
brightening up after a wet start

Today's forecast certainly got the heavy rain at 8am right, although it was not as heavy as late yesterday evening. The sky still looks very grey to the west, but to the east the clouds look broken up, and we have already had one sunbeam get through them for a few minutes. The idea that we may have some periods of sunshine today does not seem to be a fantasy. It is just a shame that this afternoon is going to be a rather chilly 12° C, except at 1pm when it may be briefly 13° C. The bad news is that the forecast has just been revised again. There will still be a few scattered sunny spells, and the 11am rain has now been moved back to 3pm. Also the brief spell as 13° C has been changed to just 12° C.  Tomorrow may see the temperature restored to 13° C for most of the afternoon, and after a sunny start to the day, but there maybe showers from 3pm.

Yesterday was another indoor day. I could potentially have gone out for about an hours walk if I had timed it right, but I just couldn't raise the enthusiasm. The only thing I did raise some enthusiasm for doing was to play about with an old computer, but I didn't imagine that my enthusiasm for that would turn out to last many, many hours. It only happened because I had dome some assorted laundry, and had the heater on low in the dining room where I was drying that laundry. It was a very unexciting day, and in some ways typical of awful autumn days. My day, evening, night, and this morning is described in my full archive page for today - not that was a great deal to say about any particular time.

10:47 BST

I kept a close eye on the weather forecasts (both the BBC and Met Office), and how they were revised every hour or two.  At no time did either of them say that it would start to rain by, or even a little before, 11.30am, and that the rain would continue on and off, and sometimes quite heavy, for the next 2 hours or more.  When it did stop the sun came out, and for 20 or so minutes it was rather glorious, but it was not enough the dry the puddles. The puddles had no chance of drying up because it was only an hour or two until there were frequent downfalls of drizzle. Apart from a few very welcome short periods of sunshine, it was a pretty miserable day. The temperature probably did reach 15° C, as forecast, but even before midday I tried not to pay too much attention to the outside world.
the weather today could be anything

Today is another day where the weather is very uncertain. The latest Met Office forecast says that it will light rain from midday, and it will fall on and off for 3 or 4 hours. After sunset the rain will go up a notch or three, and persistent heavy rain is expected. The BBC forecast continues to be slightly insane. It predicts a 33% chance of rain at 1pm, but no rain will fall. At 3pm the chance of rain will fall to 31%, and it will rain. The rain will then continue for the rest of the day, maybe with an occasional pause, but unlike in the world of the Met Office, it won't be heavy rain. Both forecast agree that the afternoon temperature will rise to 16° C, but only the BBC warn of strong, gusty winds between 2 and 6pm.

Both forecasts have different ideas about tomorrow. The BBC says the morning could be very sunny, but the afternoon will be mostly overcast. The BBC's world will be dry all day. The Met Office reckon that there will be only sunny spells, but these should happen through most of the daylight hours. However, from 2pm there could be light showers for the next three hours. Both forecasts reckon the afternoon temperature will only rise to 13° C.

I was getting myself in the right mood to go for a walk yesterday. I was going to head towards Grove Park, but turn off at least half a mile short of there to walk along the the Downham Woodland Walk. From the map it appears to be quite a narrow corridors of trees that comes out along the Bromley Road. It could have been a fairly long walk. I estimate it will be around 5 miles when I eventually do it because I didn't do it yesterday. After having a shower I went back to my bedroom to get dressed and saw that it was raining. Any thoughts of going out for a walk evaporated at the sight of puddles in the road. What I did during the day, the evening, through a really bad night's sleep, and my thoughts this morning, are all in my full archive page for today.

One or two of the revisions to the weather forecast mentioned the possibility of a light shower during the afternoon, but they rather underestimated it. I think there were probably three showers in the afternoon. All seemed to last for longer than a "quick shower", and two of them were rather heavier than what I would call a shower. Now I think about it, there was also a shower mid morning too, and that definitely wasn't predicted in any forecast. At other times there was some sunshine, and that sun felt surprisingly hot, and yet the afternoon temperature struggled to reach 15° C - if indeed it did reach that.
it's sunny as I write this, but....

The most recent revision to the forecast correctly shows full sunshine at the moment, but apparently that ends in 15 minutes, and the rest of the day will be overcast. It will only be lightly forecast until after sunset, and that does give a bit of wriggle room for the sun to possibly break through the clouds at some time, but from 6pm the cloud will thicken, and from 7pm it may well start to rain. Of course by 6pm it will be dark, and the outside world doesn't exist then. Today's temperature may peak at 15° C very early in the afternoon, but it will start to cool off by 3pm. Tomorrow does not look nice. The morning may be lightly overcast, but the cloud will get thicker and darker in the afternoon. By 3pm it may be raining, and by 6pm it may be absolutely teeming down. Curiously enough, in the middle of the rain, the temperature  may hit 16° C by 3 or 4 pm.

Yesterday featured two main parts. In the morning I went shopping for only the second time in almost 3 months. In the afternoon I had another beer drinking session with Michael and Jodie. We are in each others "support bubble", and so our meeting was possibly legal under the current Covid regulations that are mostly as clear as mud. My full archive page for today includes details of my shopping trip, and my beer drinking session, plus how my dinner was almost healthy thanks to buying some fresh vegetables. It also included some notes on my evening, sleep, and how I feel, and what I might do today.

Yesterday was miserable and wet, and grey and wet, and wet and dull, and dull and grey, and it was very wet too ! There were times when it wasn't actually raining, but it was still very soggy. If anything good can be plucked out of this awfulness it is that it was sort of mild in the afternoon with the temperature reaching 16, and maybe even 17° C.
sunshine today !

The latest revision to the forecast has changed a few times when it will be sunny, and when there will only be sunny spells. The 30% chance of light rain at 1pm has now been reduced to10% and the icon has changed to full on sunshine. Today looks like it will be one of the better days, although the fly in the ointment is that the maximum temperature has now been reduced by one degree to just 15° C. That should still feel OK in the sunshine. There may be  a splash of rain in the early hours of tomorrow morning, but the day should start bright and sunny. It may not last long, and from late morning it will probably be lightly overcast. There is a chance of some rain after sunset. The temperature may be similar to today - a maximum of 15° C.

Sometimes it is easy to develop paranoia, and believe "they" are out to get you. Yesterday was a prime example. On Monday I had to force myself out the door, but I did a quite enjoyable 4.92 mile walk. On Tuesday I thought I might do the same, but I couldn't seem to raise the enthusiasm, and besides, there were things I wanted to do at home - like a lot of hoovering. The next day, yesterday, I seemed to be feeling good enough physically,, and maybe mentally, to want to go on another long(ish) walk. I even had a potential route planned out the previous night. I suppose I still could have done it in the rain, but it is impossible to believe it could be enjoyable. Today the sun is out, and I think I feel OK to go for a walk, but I can't because I have things to do. I'm sure "they" are out to get me ! Today is beer day, and you can read about that, as well as a load of miserable stuff from yesterday, in my full archive page for today.

There was probably a bit more sunshine than I thought there would be yesterday. It was probably another day when the cloud was so broken up that it was impossible for the forecasts to know just who would get sunshine, and whose sunshine would be mostly blocked by a cloud. That is not to say that yesterday afternoon could be described as sunny - there were just enough sunny spells for it to be cheerful some of the time. The more important feature was the temperature. It was less noticeable indoors, and I only went out into the garden once yesterday, but out there it was noticeable that it wasn't cold (although not warm either). I can't recall if I actually checked, but the forecasts said 17° C for the afternoon, and that seemed about right.
rain, rain, rain, and more rain

It doesn't seem to happen that often, but both the BBC (Meteogroup) and Met Office, and my own eyeballs, agree that it is raining - a lot. It is very dull outside, and it could stay this way for most of the morning. Maybe it will be less dull at 3pm when the chances of rain apparently drop from 60% at 2pm to just 20%. This morning the chance of rain is currently shown as 90% (and earlier still it was shown as greater than 95%). The rain maybe lighter, but there is a high probability that showers will start again near sunset after a couple of hours when the probability of rain is said to be low. It is almost mild now, and the afternoon temperature will rise a bit more to 16° C. Tomorrow should be a much brighter day, but a bit cooler, and then it may rain very late in the afternoon...maybe from sunset for several hours.

Yesterday was one of those days... I wasn't feeling that good, but as good as I was the previous day when I walked almost 5 miles, and came home feeling almost better than I did before I went out. However, yesterday there was something else that didn't feel right. I couldn't describe it, and I have no idea why whatever it was seemed to make me think that going out might not be a good idea. Maybe I was too influenced by the morning starting off rather dull, and making me think it might rain. The outcome of this was that I didn't get out to do any exercise, but I did raise a light sweat doing quite a bit of hoovering. All I can recall of my day, plus my evening, night, and this morning, is described in my full archive page for today.

09:29 BST

Yesterday the weather forecast underestimated how sunny some of the afternoon was. For a time it seemed warm and sunny, and that was very nice after some of the grim days we have had. The sunny spells thinned out, and almost disappeared by late afternoon, and the cloud thickened enough to make it very dull as sunset approached. After sunset the only obvious change was the day cooling down after reaching 15° C, and possibly more by mid afternoon.
dull but dry start

There was little sign that any forecast rain fell this morning. I did notice a bit of damp in my back garden, but that could easily just have been dew. At the moment the sky, or at least the bit I can easily see from where I am sitting, looks a sort of blue grey colour, and it could still easily rain at any minute. Later on there could be some occasional sunny spells, but I don't think we will be lucky like yesterday when the afternoon was so much sunnier than forecast. One thing about today is that temperature should reach 17° C. That should feel mild, and even quite warm if there is any sunshine. Tomorrow could reach 16° C, but at the moment the forecast says rain, and some of it heavy, from before dawn until just after dusk.

I put a lot of faith in the weather forecast yesterday, and I was more than amply rewarded. I had to grit my teeth a bit to go out for a walk before it became sunny, but maybe the second two thirds of my walk were done in sunshine, and I ended up walking very close to 5 miles. There is more to this story, plus pictures, and all the usual commentary on the rest of my day, dinner, sleeping, and this morning in my full archive page for today.

The weather forecast seemed to offer some hope of some sunshine yesterday. The forecast didn't show the one time when the sun did come out early in the morning. The rest of the day was depressingly dull, and with the afternoon only reaching 13° C, it was not even tepid under they grey sky. A thoroughly miserable day.
sunny start, and maybe more sunny spells
                        until at least mid afternoon

The forecast has been revised since taking the screenshot above. It now acknowledges the rather long sunny spell that is happening as I write this. It also gives hope that sunny spells may continue until mid afternoon. From 4pm the sky may cloud over, and that will be the last we see of the sun. It may only be light cloud, and with luck it will still be fairly bright. The best bit is that the afternoon may reach 15° C. That is not very high, but it might feel OK during one the sunny spells. Tomorrow may start with a bit of rain, but the afternoon should feature sunny spells, and with the possibility of 17° C it could almost feel warm.

The weight of yesterday's heavy clouds left me feeling quite depressed yesterday. A consequence of this is that I did very little of note yesterday. What I did do is all recorded in my full archive page for today, but much of it is just about what I ate and drank, but it also includes how I slept, and what my plans may be for today. The latter is mainly the idea I will be going for a long(ish) walk, but how it depends very much on how the weather behaves today.

The sun almost managed to break through the clouds for a minute yesterday, but apart from that single moment in time, yesterday was uniformly grey. Admittedly it was sometimes mid grey, and at other times dark grey, but yesterday was grey, grey, grey ! The only good thing that can be said about yesterday was the afternoon temperature managed to reach 13° C, a whole one degree higher than the forecast. I don't think any rain actually fell despite there being a 10% chance of rain at any time yesterday.
another grey day

One thing today's forecast omitted was the 10 to 15 minutes of sunshine at about 8.30am.  Right now, as per the forecast, the sky is only lightly clouded, and small cracks in the cloud are visible. It is possible that a bit more sunshone could leak through one of those cracks. In fact the latest revision to the forecast acknowledges this. It now says there could be sunny spells all through the morning, and a few hours into the afternoon, but with one exception - there will be no sunshine seen at 11am ! Any sunny spells may finish by 3pm, and by 6pm the light cloud will turn to thick, dark grey cloud. Of course soon after that it will be dark anyway, and then the weather can do what it likes...sort of. The afternoon temperature could reach 13° C, and in the sunshine that may not feel too bad. Tomorrow may be even warmer - maybe 14° C, but at the expense of any sunshine. Only light cloud is currently forecast for tomorrow.

The weather said no, and my creaking bones agreed, but I knew I had to get out exercising yesterday. I was beginning to feel a bit ill, and my weight was hanging in the balance while sitting around all day doing nothing (or nothing much). The only positive thing is that by the time I was ready it was 12° C out, and heading towards 13° C. That is not exactly warm, particularly with no sunshine, but it seemed like it should be comfortable enough without a coat provided I kept moving. I managed to walk 4 miles, but while I thought it a good achievement, I can't say I enjoyed it that much. The full details of my walk, with picture, plus what I did for the rest of the day, and my the story so far this morning, can be read in my full archive page for today.

Yesterday afternoon started much brighter than the forecast made me think it should be. I'm not sure when it finally clouded over, but it was fairly late in the afternoon, and I seem to recall there were a few bright spells even after that. Unfortunately it was still a cold day, oh, and there was some drizzle in the afternoon too. The highest temperature was no more than 13° C, although when it was sunny it warmed up my front, south facing, rooms nicely.

                        drizzle

Since taking the screenshot above at about 7am there has been no revision to the forecast. It still says today will be heavily overcast all day except at 6pm when it will only be lightly overcast for an hour. With zero sunshine it will feel cold with the temperature only peaking to 12° C. The chance of rain is still shown as 10% all day long, and I would not be surprised if there were an occasional fall of drizzle. Tomorrow currently looks like it could be very slightly better than today for two reasons. There may be a few hours from mid afternoon when the sun may break through for a few minutes, and it might be a whole degree warmer at 13° C.

There were times yesterday, generally early afternoon, when it looked like it would be OK to go for a walk, and then there were times when the sunshine that seemed attractive, was replaced by 10 minutes of light drizzle. What was worse was that my mid to late morning I had probably decided I wasn't going for a walk anyway. So I stayed in, and tried my best to be very lazy - and I failed at that too ! I did two things of note yesterday. One was useful, and the other was important.I describe both, and describe the rest of my day, and my night, and discuss some good news, and my (non existent) plans for today in my full archive page for today.

Yesterday was supposed to be dry, but there was some light rain in the afternoon. There was also some sunny periods dotted through the day when the on;y sunshine was supposed to be in the morning (which for a couple of hours featured some solid sunshine). Maybe if it had been warmer than 12° C I might have said it was not such a bad day, but ultimately it has to go in the not very good category.
very dull this morning

It is currently heavily overcast ! The latest revision to the forecast says we should now be entering into an hour of sunny periods, but that feel unlikely when I look out the window at the unbroken dull grey clouds. If the latest revision to the forecast could actually become reality there would be three hours of solid sunshine from 10am. Once again, this feels hard to believe. I don't think the forecast can tell us anything about reality today except for the temperature. This morning it was just 8° C, and it is starting to very slowly climb, and maybe it will peak at 13° C by this afternoon. Apart from tomorrow morning predicted to start at 10° C, the rest of the forecast could match what today may turn out to be - overcast all day, sometimes heavily overcast, and with a 10% chance of rain at any time through the day.

Yesterday had it's highlights, and the morning sunshine was obviously the best highlight. That should have spurred me on to action, but somehow I wasn't in the mood for being dynamic. On the whole I had a lazy day that was only punctuated by sorting, and storing away the goodies in my morning parcel delivery, and have a couple of beers with Michael in the afternoon. The full description of my day, which doesn't amount to a lot, plus my thoughts of the Covid regulations going up a notch in London, along with the usual stuff about dinner, my sleep, and how crap I feel this morning, is all in my full archive page for today.

Some of yesterday was fairly cheerful with an occasional sunny spell, and 13° C was noticeably less cold than the previous few days. I remember there was a sprinkle of rain late in the afternoon, but it didn't amount to much - as far as I am aware.
sunny morning

It was sunny earlier on, but the latest revision to the forecast is a bit closer to reality. The sunshine at 9am, in the screenshot above, is now showing as just sunny spells, but now they are extended through to 11am. After that it may become lightly overcast....or maybe there will be sunny spells later. Once again it seems that the weather is in a great state of flux, and difficult, or impossible to forecast with any degree greater than broad generalisations. The afternoon temperature may only reach 12° C today, but tomorrow it may reach 13° C. Tomorrow is shown as having few sunny spells at the moment, but the chances that in reality it will be similar today - once we find out what today is actually like !

I seemed to be quite busy doing some photo editing yesterday morning - not that I had much time for it in the morning after finishing writing here, and having a shower. I think something else occupied my time for a bit, but I can't remember what. What I do know is that my photo editing spilled over into a bit of the afternoon after I had some lunch. All I can remember, and/or is worth recounting, is all written up, with a few pictures, in my full archive page for today. It also includes stuff like eating, and what has already happened this morning, and what will probably happen today.

Once again, yesterday featured very miserable weather. Despite one revision of the forecast saying there might be at least one sunny spell in the morning, I only remember it being grey all day. Sometimes it was a lighter grey, and sometimes a much darker grey. The forecast kept trying to predict when it would rain, but no revision that I recall said it would be raining from as early as midday. No rainfall seemed that heavy, but there were very long periods of light to medium rain from midday to midnight, and probably beyond that. The temperature may have touched 11° C for a short while, but 10° C is more representative for the "warmest" part of the day.
bright start with rain later

I reckon it was at least a degree or two cooler than the 9° C shown in the screenshot above. The latest revision now shows a few hours of sunshine this morning, and this does seem to describe reality at this time. In a few hours time it will probably cloud over, but it may be light cloud, and the day will stay fairly bright. Some rain is forecast for later, but it may not amount to much. The afternoon temperature may reach 13° C for a couple of hours. Tomorrow may only see some sunny spells, and the rest of the time will be lightly overcast. It should be a dry day with the temperature once again peaking at about 13° C.

Yesterday was another day when nothing dramatic happened. It was a day when I seemed quite busy, but had little to show for it. The most significant thing I did, if judged by physical energy used, was to wash a medium bath towel, and some underwear. It was handy that I wanted to do some work downstairs because that was the perfect excuse to put a heater on to warm the room, and to dry that towel. I shall be using that freshly washed towel when I have a shower after writing this. There is more about what I did in the day, the evening, how I slept, and what my thought and plans are this morning in my full archive page for today.

I paid very little attention to what the weather was up to yesterday. This was partly because I was sometimes busy, and partly because all I saw when I did occasionally glance at a window was greyness. There was some rainfall yesterday, and I think it started much earlier in the afternoon than forecast, but I think it was mostly light rain rather than the heavy rain forecast for late evening. I do know it was cold, and I can quite believe the temperature only rose to 12° C for a few hours.
Another rather grey day with rain later

The forecast has been revised since I took the screenshot above. It now seems it will be raining by 11am, and it ain't gonna stop until midnight. Some of that rain, possibly most of it from late afternoon, is going to be heavy. Today's maximum temperature is only going to be 10° C, and it may not get there until 6pm !  Tomorrow may be a bit brighter, but there will probably still be some showers. It will be a little warmer less cold tomorrow with the temperature expected to rise to the dizzy heights of 13° C by early afternoon.

My main plan for yesterday was to get my new PC up and running. Before I could do that I wanted to bring the copy of the home directory from my old PC up to date. I used a backup program for that. I had forgotten that simply "copying" does not copy many important hidden files. The back up application does, and so it took far longer than expected. I didn't get to start putting my new PC back together, and installing the operating system on it until early afternoon. The full details, not that there are that many, of the job, plus other stuff I did yesterday, including how I managed to wreck my health (for hopefully only a short while) are written up in my full archive page for today. It also includes my thoughts and plans this morning.

As the weather forecast waxed and waned reality got on with trying to give as much sunshine as possible. There were a few time in the afternoon when it did get very dull outside, but generally there were sunny periods until sunset. I think one revision to the forecast said there may be rain after dark, but as far as I am aware, it stayed dry. All revisions of the forecast agreed that the afternoon would be no warmer than 13° C, and that was all it was.
back to grey skies, and rain later

The latest revision to the forecast only makes one small change to that pictured above - there will be some light rain at 3pm, and it will be dry at 4pm. The prediction that it will get very wet this evening remains. As I write this I can see the sun trying to burn a hole through the clouds, but it is no brighter than a flashlight. With zero sunshine expected the temperature will only reach 12° C for a few hours in the early afternoon. At the moment it is forecast that tomorrow may be a bit brighter, but still no sunshine, no warmer, and with some lighter intermittent rain from late afternoon onwards. I suspect this will be repeatedly revised on an hour by hour basis, and may turn out different (hopefully, but unlikely for the better).

Yesterday was another day when not a lot happened. The difference to the previous day is that for much of the time I was feeling generally OK - not actually bubbling over with energy and enthusiasm, but comfortably semi-lazy.  What little I did do, plus the usual stuff about my day, my evening, my night, my plans, and how I feel this morning are all written in my full archive page for today.

I predicted that yesterday would feel more like winter than autumn, and it did, but maybe only a mild winter. With the day starting at 6° C (or possibly a little less), and the afternoon temperature only reaching around 12° C, it was definitely a very cool day. There was probably more sunshine than expected, but not a great deal. The day was dry until possibly sometime after dark, but even then it didn't seem to be noticeably wet.
sunny start, and more sunshine through the
                        day

It was cloudy during the night, and that helped keep the temperature up to a less bone chilling 9° C. It is now bright and sunny, and there should be either sunshine or sunny spells throughout daylight hours. Sadly it seems it won't warm things up much, and the temperature probably won't get any better than 13° C. Tomorrow could be overcast all day, and with rain from mid afternoon. It will also be a few degrees cooler than today.

I don't know if it was some sort of legacy effect of the stomach upset I had the previous day, or whether it was just because it was cold, but I didn't feel good yesterday. It may even have been a flare up of what I believe was a mild attack of Covid-19 in February. (It had all the symptoms except any breathing difficulties, and only lasted for 4 or 5 days). Once a virus is in your system it rarely goes away completely, but the body does learn to keep it under control. Maybe my defences were low yesterday because it was such a cold day (12° C). My day wasn't completely wasted despite not wanting to undertake any big jobs. As usual, I have a full write up of my day, my evening, my sleep, and how I feel this morning in my full archive page for today.

Like the previous day, the weather was changing faster than the forecasts could keep up. After a few revisions the forecast seemed to return to the original early morning prediction for the day, and that was almost close to reality. The morning definitely started off very sunny, but gradually that gave way to sunny spells, and eventually rain. The first rain seemed to fall an hour or two after the first predicted time, and at no time did it seem to be heavy rain. If anything it was more like drizzle. After a cold morning, 7° C, it warmed up, and although it still felt rather cool, I seem to think it was actually a bit warmer than the 13° C predicted. I'm sure I saw 15° C on one of my thermometers.
very cold start

I think the temperature this morning was closer to 5° C than the 6° C shown on the forecast. I guess the sunny spells shown for 8am, or right now, is right. I was going to say it was sunny, rather than sunny spells, but I have to conceded the sun did go in briefly a few times. There is still a lot of blue sky to be seen, and so it may not become overcast until some time after 10am. The latest revision shows that it will only be heavily overcast at 1, 2 and 4pm, and that it should remain dry  all day, and tomorrow too ! With a maximum temperature of only 12° C, and after a very cold start, today is going to feel more like winter than autumn. Tomorrow may feature a bit more sunshine, but the temperature may still only reach 13° C.

I didn't realise that the stomach upset I had reported yesterday morning was still going on long after I finished writing. I had to make several more visits to the toilet during the morning, and afternoon, and it wasn't until about 4pm that I was obviously empty. I have tried to avoid any graphic explanations of how my stomach upset progressed yesterday, but I did try and explain how it left me feeling "ill" yesterday. The only difficulty was describing "ill" - I just felt bad in a non descript way. My full archive page for today has more details, including what few things I did, the naughty food I ate, how I slept, and how this morning all my health indicators say I shouldn't be feeling as bad as I do this morning.

The weather forecast for yesterday seemed pretty grim, but the weather seemed to be changing faster than the forecasts could be updated. As far as I am aware, after the early morning rain, the rest of yesterday was dry, although there were a few times when the sky looked dark enough for a shower. However there were also a lot of sunny spells, and that is what made yesterday so different to the forecasts. The sunny spells didn't really do anything for the temperature. That was still the 16° C that was forecast for the warmest part of the day.
bright start, wet finish....maybe

This morning started off rather cold. I wonder if earlier on, the temperature went even lower than the 7° C that the forecast said for 7am this morning. It seems that the highest temperature today will be a cool 13° C. The latest revision to the forecast shows only some light rain at about 3pm, but no extra sunshine. It is gloriously sunny as I write this, and the sun coming through the window feels deliciously warm on my back as I write this. On the other side of the window it is still very chilly ! Once again, a clear night means the temperature will drop to around 7° C in the small hours of tomorrow morning, but some more morning sunshine should help raise that to 12 or 13° C again. It should be a brighter day tomorrow, but without that much actual sunshine, and it should be a dry day.

I did not feel very dynamic yesterday morning. That is a sort of coded way of saying I was very lazy, although I must have done something because the morning seemed to pass quite rapidly. After midday I finally started to do some actual work. I cleaned and tidied the dining room in preparation for another Thursday boozing session. We had a good session, and many beers were drunk. That had some predictable consequences like an extra early night to sleep it off, but only for a few hours before I woke up with what turned out to be a sort of stomach upset. The full gruesome details of my day, evening, night and the first few hours of today (with the unpleasant bits replaced by innuendo, or misdirection) are all described in my full archive page for today.

Yesterday was generally bright, but I don't think it was as sunny as the forecast predicted. I have to confess that one problem is that I can't use yesterday's forecast to remind me how the day went because the forecast seemed to change nearly every hour to show a different variation on the forecast. Let's just say there were sunny spells from time to time, and it was perfectly dry until well after dark. One common thread through all the revisions of the forecast was that the afternoon temperature would reach 16° C. I think that for a while it almost reached 18° C.
dull and wet

Once again the forecast is being revised almost every hour. The weather patterns must be very complicated recently. The idea that it will rain this morning seems to be a common thread, and while some of it may have been too fine to see from indoors, it does seem to have been raining all morning up to when I am writing this. The latest revision says that the rain will continue non stop, sometimes light, but sometimes heavy, until gone 1pm now. Maybe this afternoon will be dry, but the chance of the sun breaking through the clouds seems very slim. The thick cloud has been beneficial in as much as the early morning temperature was 15° C, and that will allow the temperature to possibly rise to 17° C by midday. Sadly it will soon drop away. Clearing skies mean it will probably be down to 12° C by midnight, and a rather chilly 9° C by tomorrow morning. Tomorrow may see clear skies, and lots of sunshine until mid/late afternoon when it will cloud over, and heavy rain may form. For all the morning sunshine we will be lucky if the temperature rises to more than 14° C.

My first delivery, a big box of goodies from Star Bargains, had arrived before I finished writing yesterday. It would not be until just gone 1pm until my big box of beers arrived. That gave me enough time to do yet more laundry.  That laundry, being a big bath towel used a fair amount of energy. The only other bit of work I did was a bit of gardening, and that was mostly picking tomatoes - so not exactly back breaking work. These tow jobs, and other stuff I did, and ate, and the consequences of that eating (and how that turned out OK this morning) are all written up in my full archive page for today. It also includes my plans for today.

09:01 BST

Maybe my memory is faulty, but yesterday afternoon seemed dry, and there were a lot of sunny spells. The part of the weather forecast that was right was the early morning rain. Any rain after that would have fallen after dark when I wasn't watching, and even then I am not convinced there was anything more than a passing shower. I think even the temperature prediction was wrong, and the afternoon got up to something closer to 17 or even 18° C. The prediction was just 15° C.
could be an almost sunny day

The forecast is subtly changing hour by hour, and the change is for the better. The latest update has the full sunshine finishing at 10am instead of 11am, but now shows sunny spells continuing right through to sunset with an hour of full sunshine at 4pm. The only problem with this forecast is that it should be sunny right now, and it is actually lightly overcast. It doesn't look to me that the sun will break through at any time. Depending on which direction I look I could imagine some drizzle rather than sunshine ! Of course the forecast has been revised once again, and now looks worse. There should now be sunny spells, but once again full sunshine for 10 and 11am. After that there may be a few short sunny spells before sunset. By 9pm it will probably be raining. The afternoon temperature prediction still remains at just 16° C for as little as one hour. Tomorrow may see the temperature rise to 18° C, but until mid afternoon it will probably be raining almost non stop.

Yesterday's sunshine should have spurred me on to do greater things, but the rot probably set in with the early morning grey and rain. My day was very similar to the day before. My finest achievement was to do some more laundry.I also did some more audio "remastering", but I came to the conclusion I am almost wasting my time - every small improvement comes at the expense of making something else worse. My full archive page for today includes more about these two jobs plus, as usual, some notes about my food, my evening, my drinking, my sleep, and what has happened this morning, and what may still be to come today.

Yesterday was an improvement on previous days. The afternoon featured a lot of nice sunny spells, and the rain predicted for late afternoon didn't seem to fall, although it may have started after dark. The morning was definitely wet though ! The afternoon temperature was around 16° C, and although only a degree or two higher than the previous few days, together with the sunny spells it seemed much more comfortable.
a
                        sunny morning

The road outside was definitely looking damp when I first looked outside, but I would say the last rainfall was earlier than the 6am shown in the screenshot above. The latest revision to the forecast correctly shows sunny spells for a couple of hours. With over half the sky looking blue this could be a very long sunny spell. From 10am the sky will start to cloud over, but it will just be light cloud until 1am. From then the cloud will be a bit darker, and rain will start to fall at 2pm. By 3pm the sky will have turned black, and the rainfall will be heavy. At 4pm the sky will brighten up, but the rain will still be heavy. From 5pm there will be some light rain, and from 6pm the rain will stop, the sun will come out, and then promptly set. The chances of this forecast being anywhere near accurate are very slim, but it probably gives the general flavour of the day ahead. The afternoon temperature will probably only hit 15° C. Tomorrow could be the first completely dry day for ages, and it should feature quite a few hours of sunshine, and a few more hours of sunny spells. Sadly it may only reach 16° C for about a solitary hour.

I think that I may have done less yesterday than the day before. Like the day before I washed a few more t-shirts, and some other assorted stuff, but that was the only easily described thing I did. Somehow I didn't seem to feel bored, and somehow I didn't seem to have enough time to spends hours and hours reading and snoozing. I can't recall all I did, but I know I did lots of little jobs that when combined must have taken quite a few hours. Doing a system/software update on my laptop was one such job. In reality I just clicked a few buttons and let it get on with it by itself. The other important job was some cooking.   There may have been the odd 20 minutes when it didn't rain, or when the rain was too light to see from indoors, but essentially it rained all day yesterday. With it being very grey all day, and the maximum temperature being no more than 11° C, it made for a pretty miserable day.
maybe a bit of sunshine this afternoon

It is definitely wet outside as I write this, but I can't say I've seen any heavy rain, and yet that is what even the revised forecast says should be happening right now. It makes me have doubts about the possibility of some sunny spells this afternoon. The revised version of the forecast, revised about 3 hours after the version shown in the screenshot above, paints exactly the same picture. So hopefully it will be brighter, with a few sunny spells this afternoon, and that it really will manage 16° C for a while today. 10° C is feeling very cool at the moment ! Tomorrow may feature some sunny spells, but they may only happen in the morning. Before and after that there is a persistent threat of rain, and some could be heavy. It may be a degree cooler tomorrow - no higher than 15° C.

Yesterday was a mostly dull day, and I am not just talking about the weather. I wasn't really inspired to do much at all. Considering how little I did, it is surprising how much I seem to have written about it. Writing about food and booze and dreams and my health seems to take so many words !   Yesterday was not as wet as expected after the morning rain finished at about 11am. The afternoon was mostly dry apart from a few random drops of rain. I seem to recall that the sun did manage to break through for less than a minute on a couple of occasions (or was that just wishful thinking ?). It was another quite cool day with the afternoon temperature only reaching 14° C.
wet all day

Both the BBC (Meteogroup) and Met Office (as in the screenshot above) seem to agree that it will rain all day today, and that most of the rain will be heavy rain. There could be brief exceptions to this - it didn't seem to be raining when I looked out the window half an hour ago, but it is most definitely raining now ! The morning has started off the coolest I can recall since early spring - just 9° C - and the best it might manage today is 11° C. Definitely a day to say to hell with the electricity bill, and keep the heater on probably all day. Tomorrow should see a great improvement. After a dry, but still lightly overcast morning, the temperature may rise from 10° C to 15° C. The afternoon may see a brief sunny spell or two, but light rain is forecast to fall from about sunset until almost midnight.

Like the day before, I didn't feel up to a long walk, but at least it was dry. Also like the day before, the more I walked, the more I wanted to walk - up to a point. After the morning rain I wanted to see how deep the river was more than anything else.  The worst thing about my walk was making the assumption it would rain at some point, and putting my raincoat on. I started out with it undone, and at no time did I need to do it up, but after walking for a mile or so I still started to feel very hot under it.I was feeling sweaty by the time I got home, but I still went home the long way round. The details of my walk, plus another zero budget, wobbly video, illustrating some points along my walk, plus the unpleasant details of last night, and how that benefited me this morning, are all written up in my full archive page for today.

Yesterday was wet, cold and wet, grey and cold, grey, wet and cold, and it wasn't very nice. There was less rain in the afternoon, but still some rain. The sky wasn't always dark grey. Sometimes it was light grey. sometimes the rain was light when it was supposed to be heavy, but it still rained. The afternoon temperature was only predicted to be 14° C, and although I can't recall actually checking what my thermometers said, 14° C was probably about right.
more rain

It rained through the night, and it rained this morning, and although it seems too light to see easily from indoors, I am pretty certain it is raining now. It is no wonder there is a yellow weather warning for rain. It warns of transport disruption, flooding, and all the usual evils. The latest revision to the forecast says the rain will actually stop after one grand finale of heavy rain at 11am. It could be, but probably won't be, dry for the rest of the day. The afternoon temperature will still probably be the same as yesterday, 14° C. After a possible respite from the rain today, it will return tomorrow with heavy rain predicted for most of the day. It will probably be even colder - just 11° C, and without any sunshine that will feel very cold.

I did say that the chances of me going out for a walk were very slim yesterday, but I seemed to take that as a self imposed challenge. I have to admit I was very curious about what the river would be like after the heavy rain. I was also curious as to how I would feel not just wearing a coat, but wearing a raincoat during a walk. When I set out I still had in mind that I would just go as far as "The Bridge Of Doom" that crosses the River Pool where it meets the River Ravensbourne in the River Pool Linear Park. I ended up doing a full 3 mile walk, and it was good and bad. The good was seeing what I wanted to see, and the bad was how hot and sweaty I got inside my raincoat, and how the damp seemed to make my legs more creaky than usual. I describe more about my walk, and show a video of it's highlights (assuming your browser can play it), plus there is the usual stuff about eating, sleeping, and my thoughts about this morning in my full archive page for today.

If I were feeling generous I might say that yesterday was pretty good for an October day. After a rather dull and gloomy start to the day there were sunny spells lasting until sunset. While it was out, the sun felt nice and warm, although out of the sun the air was only about 15° C in the afternoon, and that was sort of cool.
dull and very wet

I've refreshed the weather forecast page several times to make sure there have been no wondrous changes, but it still looks bloody horrible. Until 1pm the sky will be dark grey, and heavy rain will fall. It seems to be falling in waves so there are periods of respite - even if those periods of respite are just light rain, and not no rain at all. The afternoon should see only mid grey skies, and there may be little or no rain, but it all starts again as the afternoon ends. Heavy rain is predicted, and it could fall all evening, through the night, and not stop until about 9am tomorrow morning. The rest of tomorrow may be much brighter, and could even feature some sunny spells, but there is still a risk of an isolated shower.

Compared to the previous few days, yesterday was a good day. I had some nice rest, aka time to read a book, in the morning, although I did do a bit of housework. I hand washed a couple of towels. one just an easy hand towel, and the other was medium sized bath towel.  Early afternoon saw me doing a bit more housework. I had to wash the dining room table because that was the easiest way of cleaning the dust and fluff off it after working on old, dusty, PCs on it. I also gave the dining room carpet a good hoovering - partly because of dust and fluff from the old dusty PCs, but it needed it anyway. At about 3.30pm Jodie and Michael joined me for an afternoon boozing session. There is more to this story, plus how my resolve cracked and how I ordered a takeaway for dinner, then how my sleep went, and finally my thoughts and stuff about this morning - all in my full archive page for today.

The weather was very grim yesterday. Apart from some early morning sunshine, most of the day was heavily overcast. There were a few very brief sunny spells scattered through the day, but they were so brief as to be ignorable. For extra misery the afternoon featured rain - sometimes heavy, sometimes light, and sometimes just drizzle. With an afternoon temperature of just 16° C it wasn't cold, but under that gloom it felt very chilly.
gloomy morning, maybe sunny afternoon
If we are patient today maybe one of the better days recently, and for the immediate future, because the afternoon may be sunny. This morning it is decidedly dull and gloomy. No rain is forecast, but by the look of it the garden got a good watering in the night - unless it was what was left of yesterday's rain. Even with the help of the sun it is going to be a very cool day, although it may not feel too bad when actually in sunshine. The forecast high is just 15° C.

Let's start that again based on the last revision to the forecast. It is still dull and gloomy, but now it is thought that there could be sunny spells from as early as 11am, and apart from the possibility of one sunny spell lasting for a full hour, the sunny spells should continue until sunset. The fly in the ointment is that now it is predicted that the sunny spells between a and 4pm may also feature some light showers. The highest temperature remains as 15° C, and it might stay that way for an extra hour compared to the morning forecast. Tomorrow is looking super grim. From midnight tonight to midnight tomorrow night there will be few hours without some rain. Much of the rain may be heavy rain, and it will all happen under a dark and gloomy sky except for a few hours in the afternoon when the cloud may be a bit lighter.

There is not a lot to say about yesterday because very little happened. I've described what can be described about my day, my evening, my sleep, and my thoughts and stuff this morning in my full archive page for today.
