Lockdown day 222 Shopping embargo day 88 100 09:41 GMT There was very little to cheer about yesterday's weather, although there was one thing that at least deserved some polite applause. The afternoon temperature was quite mild at 16 to 17° C. Other than that it was a very grey day. As far as I can remember, and I wasn't always paying attention to what was happening outdoors, it was a dry day. A lot of yesterday seems to be a blank in my memory. I think it was because there was not a lot to remember in the morning, and the first hours of the afternoon.Mid afternoon featured a meeting of my "support bubble" - aka The Thursday Club (even if it was a Friday) - or Michael, Jodie, and quite a few bottles of beer. There is little describe about it, it being just drinking and banter, but it is mentioned, along with anything else I could think about saying concerning yesterday, last night, and this morning, in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 221 Shopping embargo day 88 99 10:00 GMT Yesterday was mostly definitely a grey day, but not quite as wet as forecast. The morning featured mostly drizzle rather than heavy rain. There were a few times when the rain was heavier than drizzle, but it was some way off what I would call heavy rain. The afternoon was mostly just dull, but there may have been a few spells of drizzle. By early afternoon the temperature reached 14° C, and it stayed there for the rest of the day, and through the night. I noted one of my outside thermometers reading 14.8° C around 10pm last night. The main event yesterday was my afternoon boozing session. Michael got waylaid by relatives, and couldn't come (but may come over today), but Jodie came. She brought some cans of beer from a Scottish brewery. Those cans are pictured, along with my beer offerings, and the session described in my full archive page for today. It also has a description of my evening, night, and the start of this morning. |

Lockdown day 220 Shopping embargo day 88 98 09:57 GMT Yesterday started bright, and then there were just sunny spells, and before midday it became mostly rather grey. I can't quite remember when the rain started, but it was later than the last estimate I saw. I think it was probably around 3pm, and although mostly drizzle there was some heavy rain, and even a flash of lightning followed by a peal of thunder. After that it seemed to dry up again. It was not a warm day. The maximum temperature was only around 12° C. I wanted to get out for a walk yesterday, but I wasn't sure if I really would, and if I did I predicted it might have just been a couple of miles. There had been some sunshine earlier, and I hoped there might be more when I finally got myself out the front door. There was more sunshine - about 30 seconds of it it total ! I can't say I had any enthusiasm when I finally went out, and I did it purely because I knew I needed to get some exercise before I totally seized up.I describe my walk, and illustrate some of it with pictures, plus there is the usual description of the rest of my day, my night, and what has happened this morning in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 219 Shopping embargo day 88 97 08:11 GMT Yesterday's weather forecast was in a constant state of flux yesterday, and so I cannot rely on yesterday's screenshot of the forecast to jog my memory. I know that the morning was unspeakably dull and wet, but it is the afternoon that I really can't remember properly. I seem to recall that there were a few brief sunny spells, but mostly it was overcast with a few more showers. The afternoon temperature probably was the 14° C that was forecast. Yesterday was a day of very little action. Even though I had a one hour slot for a parcel delivery from roughly 2 to 3pm, I couldn't relax until the parcel was delivered. It actually arrived just as the one hour slot was about to run out. Prior to my parcel arriving I spent some time finishing the book I had been reading, and catching up with tech news from https://www.theregister.com/. I did do one other thing, and that was to hand wash the double duvet cover I took off my bed a few days ago.The full description of my day, my evening, a few weird things in the night, and my morning thoughts can be read in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 218 Shopping embargo day 88 96 09:06 GMT Yesterday started cold, but sunny. Gradually it clouded over, and at times it became very dull. I paid little attention to the outside during the afternoon, and so all I can really say is that I think there were a few sunny spells, and I think there was a light shower or two, but nothing was significant enough to burn itself into my memory. I can't even be sure that the temperature reached 12° C, but I'm sure it wasn't far off that. Going shopping in Aldi yesterday morning must have been a sufficient thrill (?) to amuse me for the whole day because I didn't feel inclined to really do anything more for the rest of the day - but I did do a few things besides eating ! The whole story, or all that is worth telling by stretching the meaning of "worth" quite a lot, plus the first few hours of this morning is all revealed in my full archive page for today. |
Monday 26th October
2020 |
Lockdown day 217 Shopping embargo day 88 95 09:38 GMT The forecast, or should I say the forecasts (plural) for yesterday never seemed to match reality that well. The heavy rain in the morning was correctly forecast, but then it was dry with some occasional visits from the sun, until about mid afternoon. I find the details after that to be a bit vague because I was not really paying much attention to the outside world after the sun went away. I do remember some rain in the late afternoon, and probably some in the evening. I was aware that it felt nice and warm indoors when the sun was shining through my front windows, but outside it was just 12° C. The morning rain put me off doing anything outdoors yesterday. Unfortunately it was another case of the morning setting the agenda for the afternoon. There were a few hours in the afternoon when there were cheerful sunny spells - sometime quite long lasting sunny spells. I could have gone out for a walk if I had chosen to do so in the early afternoon, but the morning rain just left me depressed, and I made my mind up to mope all day...sort of. Anyway, Sundays always have been, and will always be, the most boring day of the week. I wasn't completely idle yesterday, and I haven't been idle this morning. Yesterday, including the evening, and how I slept, plus what I have already done this morning (and how I haven't got a clue what I will do next) are all described in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday 25th October
2020 |
Lockdown day 216 Shopping embargo day 88 94 09:34 GMT My fears that the later revisions of the forecast could be right, and that it would be raining by 11am were unfounded. However, it was very dull, and there were a few showers in the afternoon that would have made a walk a very soggy pastime. I'm not sure if it was at the predicted time of 7pm when the clouds gave up pussyfooting around, and switched from occasional showers to torrential rain. There were gaps in that rain that were not noted in the forecast, but on and off, that rain continued through the night, although maybe it was not quite so heavy from midnight. In theory it was almost warm with the afternoon temperature reaching 16° C, but under a grey sky it did not feel that good to me. Yesterday was another indoor day. I could potentially have gone out for about an hours walk if I had timed it right, but I just couldn't raise the enthusiasm. The only thing I did raise some enthusiasm for doing was to play about with an old computer, but I didn't imagine that my enthusiasm for that would turn out to last many, many hours. It only happened because I had dome some assorted laundry, and had the heater on low in the dining room where I was drying that laundry. It was a very unexciting day, and in some ways typical of awful autumn days. My day, evening, night, and this morning is described in my full archive page for today - not that was a great deal to say about any particular time. |

October 2020 |
Lockdown day 215 Shopping embargo day 88 93 10:47 BST I kept a close eye on the weather forecasts (both the BBC and Met Office), and how they were revised every hour or two. At no time did either of them say that it would start to rain by, or even a little before, 11.30am, and that the rain would continue on and off, and sometimes quite heavy, for the next 2 hours or more. When it did stop the sun came out, and for 20 or so minutes it was rather glorious, but it was not enough the dry the puddles. The puddles had no chance of drying up because it was only an hour or two until there were frequent downfalls of drizzle. Apart from a few very welcome short periods of sunshine, it was a pretty miserable day. The temperature probably did reach 15° C, as forecast, but even before midday I tried not to pay too much attention to the outside world. Both forecasts have different ideas about tomorrow. The BBC says the morning could be very sunny, but the afternoon will be mostly overcast. The BBC's world will be dry all day. The Met Office reckon that there will be only sunny spells, but these should happen through most of the daylight hours. However, from 2pm there could be light showers for the next three hours. Both forecasts reckon the afternoon temperature will only rise to 13° C. |
Friday 23rd October
2020 |
Lockdown day 214 Shopping embargo day 88 92 09:39 BST One or two of the revisions to the weather forecast mentioned the possibility of a light shower during the afternoon, but they rather underestimated it. I think there were probably three showers in the afternoon. All seemed to last for longer than a "quick shower", and two of them were rather heavier than what I would call a shower. Now I think about it, there was also a shower mid morning too, and that definitely wasn't predicted in any forecast. At other times there was some sunshine, and that sun felt surprisingly hot, and yet the afternoon temperature struggled to reach 15° C - if indeed it did reach that. Yesterday featured two main parts. In the morning I went shopping for only the second time in almost 3 months. In the afternoon I had another beer drinking session with Michael and Jodie. We are in each others "support bubble", and so our meeting was possibly legal under the current Covid regulations that are mostly as clear as mud. My full archive page for today includes details of my shopping trip, and my beer drinking session, plus how my dinner was almost healthy thanks to buying some fresh vegetables. It also included some notes on my evening, sleep, and how I feel, and what I might do today. |

October 2020 |
Lockdown day 213 Shopping embargo day 88 91 09:18 BST Yesterday was miserable and wet, and grey and wet, and wet and dull, and dull and grey, and it was very wet too ! There were times when it wasn't actually raining, but it was still very soggy. If anything good can be plucked out of this awfulness it is that it was sort of mild in the afternoon with the temperature reaching 16, and maybe even 17° C. |
Wednesday 21st
October 2020 |
Lockdown day 212 Shopping embargo day 88 90 09:08 BST There was probably a bit more sunshine than I thought there would be yesterday. It was probably another day when the cloud was so broken up that it was impossible for the forecasts to know just who would get sunshine, and whose sunshine would be mostly blocked by a cloud. That is not to say that yesterday afternoon could be described as sunny - there were just enough sunny spells for it to be cheerful some of the time. The more important feature was the temperature. It was less noticeable indoors, and I only went out into the garden once yesterday, but out there it was noticeable that it wasn't cold (although not warm either). I can't recall if I actually checked, but the forecasts said 17° C for the afternoon, and that seemed about right. |
Tuesday 20th October
2020 |
Lockdown day 211 Shopping embargo day 88 89 09:29 BST Yesterday the weather forecast underestimated how sunny some of the afternoon was. For a time it seemed warm and sunny, and that was very nice after some of the grim days we have had. The sunny spells thinned out, and almost disappeared by late afternoon, and the cloud thickened enough to make it very dull as sunset approached. After sunset the only obvious change was the day cooling down after reaching 15° C, and possibly more by mid afternoon. |
Monday 19th October
2020 |
Lockdown day 210 Shopping embargo day 88 09:00 BST The weather forecast seemed to offer some hope of some sunshine yesterday. The forecast didn't show the one time when the sun did come out early in the morning. The rest of the day was depressingly dull, and with the afternoon only reaching 13° C, it was not even tepid under they grey sky. A thoroughly miserable day. The weight of yesterday's heavy clouds left me feeling quite depressed yesterday. A consequence of this is that I did very little of note yesterday. What I did do is all recorded in my full archive page for today, but much of it is just about what I ate and drank, but it also includes how I slept, and what my plans may be for today. The latter is mainly the idea I will be going for a long(ish) walk, but how it depends very much on how the weather behaves today. |
Sunday
18th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 209 Shopping embargo day 87 09:15 BST The sun almost managed to break through the clouds for a minute yesterday, but apart from that single moment in time, yesterday was uniformly grey. Admittedly it was sometimes mid grey, and at other times dark grey, but yesterday was grey, grey, grey ! The only good thing that can be said about yesterday was the afternoon temperature managed to reach 13° C, a whole one degree higher than the forecast. I don't think any rain actually fell despite there being a 10% chance of rain at any time yesterday. The weather said no, and my creaking bones agreed, but I knew I had to get out exercising yesterday. I was beginning to feel a bit ill, and my weight was hanging in the balance while sitting around all day doing nothing (or nothing much). The only positive thing is that by the time I was ready it was 12° C out, and heading towards 13° C. That is not exactly warm, particularly with no sunshine, but it seemed like it should be comfortable enough without a coat provided I kept moving. I managed to walk 4 miles, but while I thought it a good achievement, I can't say I enjoyed it that much. The full details of my walk, with picture, plus what I did for the rest of the day, and my the story so far this morning, can be read in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
17th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 208 Shopping embargo day 86 09:32 BST Yesterday afternoon started much brighter than the forecast made me think it should be. I'm not sure when it finally clouded over, but it was fairly late in the afternoon, and I seem to recall there were a few bright spells even after that. Unfortunately it was still a cold day, oh, and there was some drizzle in the afternoon too. The highest temperature was no more than 13° C, although when it was sunny it warmed up my front, south facing, rooms nicely. There were times yesterday, generally early afternoon, when it looked like it would be OK to go for a walk, and then there were times when the sunshine that seemed attractive, was replaced by 10 minutes of light drizzle. What was worse was that my mid to late morning I had probably decided I wasn't going for a walk anyway. So I stayed in, and tried my best to be very lazy - and I failed at that too ! I did two things of note yesterday. One was useful, and the other was important.I describe both, and describe the rest of my day, and my night, and discuss some good news, and my (non existent) plans for today in my full archive page for today. |
Friday
16th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 207 Shopping embargo day 85 09:20 BST Yesterday was supposed to be dry, but there was some light rain in the afternoon. There was also some sunny periods dotted through the day when the on;y sunshine was supposed to be in the morning (which for a couple of hours featured some solid sunshine). Maybe if it had been warmer than 12° C I might have said it was not such a bad day, but ultimately it has to go in the not very good category. Yesterday had it's highlights, and the morning sunshine was obviously the best highlight. That should have spurred me on to action, but somehow I wasn't in the mood for being dynamic. On the whole I had a lazy day that was only punctuated by sorting, and storing away the goodies in my morning parcel delivery, and have a couple of beers with Michael in the afternoon. The full description of my day, which doesn't amount to a lot, plus my thoughts of the Covid regulations going up a notch in London, along with the usual stuff about dinner, my sleep, and how crap I feel this morning, is all in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday
15th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 206 Shopping embargo day 84 09:59 BST Some of yesterday was fairly cheerful with an occasional sunny spell, and 13° C was noticeably less cold than the previous few days. I remember there was a sprinkle of rain late in the afternoon, but it didn't amount to much - as far as I am aware. I seemed to be quite busy doing some photo editing yesterday morning - not that I had much time for it in the morning after finishing writing here, and having a shower. I think something else occupied my time for a bit, but I can't remember what. What I do know is that my photo editing spilled over into a bit of the afternoon after I had some lunch. All I can remember, and/or is worth recounting, is all written up, with a few pictures, in my full archive page for today. It also includes stuff like eating, and what has already happened this morning, and what will probably happen today. |
Wednesday
14th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 205 Shopping embargo day 83 08:30 BST Once again, yesterday featured very miserable weather. Despite one revision of the forecast saying there might be at least one sunny spell in the morning, I only remember it being grey all day. Sometimes it was a lighter grey, and sometimes a much darker grey. The forecast kept trying to predict when it would rain, but no revision that I recall said it would be raining from as early as midday. No rainfall seemed that heavy, but there were very long periods of light to medium rain from midday to midnight, and probably beyond that. The temperature may have touched 11° C for a short while, but 10° C is more representative for the "warmest" part of the day. Yesterday was another day when nothing dramatic happened. It was a day when I seemed quite busy, but had little to show for it. The most significant thing I did, if judged by physical energy used, was to wash a medium bath towel, and some underwear. It was handy that I wanted to do some work downstairs because that was the perfect excuse to put a heater on to warm the room, and to dry that towel. I shall be using that freshly washed towel when I have a shower after writing this. There is more about what I did in the day, the evening, how I slept, and what my thought and plans are this morning in my full archive page for today. |
Tuesday
13th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 204 Shopping embargo day 82 09:25 BST I paid very little attention to what the weather was up to yesterday. This was partly because I was sometimes busy, and partly because all I saw when I did occasionally glance at a window was greyness. There was some rainfall yesterday, and I think it started much earlier in the afternoon than forecast, but I think it was mostly light rain rather than the heavy rain forecast for late evening. I do know it was cold, and I can quite believe the temperature only rose to 12° C for a few hours. My main plan for yesterday was to get my new PC up and running. Before I could do that I wanted to bring the copy of the home directory from my old PC up to date. I used a backup program for that. I had forgotten that simply "copying" does not copy many important hidden files. The back up application does, and so it took far longer than expected. I didn't get to start putting my new PC back together, and installing the operating system on it until early afternoon. The full details, not that there are that many, of the job, plus other stuff I did yesterday, including how I managed to wreck my health (for hopefully only a short while) are written up in my full archive page for today. It also includes my thoughts and plans this morning. |
Monday
12th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 203 Shopping embargo day 81 09:15 BST As the weather forecast waxed and waned reality got on with trying to give as much sunshine as possible. There were a few time in the afternoon when it did get very dull outside, but generally there were sunny periods until sunset. I think one revision to the forecast said there may be rain after dark, but as far as I am aware, it stayed dry. All revisions of the forecast agreed that the afternoon would be no warmer than 13° C, and that was all it was. Yesterday was another day when not a lot happened. The difference to the previous day is that for much of the time I was feeling generally OK - not actually bubbling over with energy and enthusiasm, but comfortably semi-lazy. What little I did do, plus the usual stuff about my day, my evening, my night, my plans, and how I feel this morning are all written in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
11th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 202 Shopping embargo day 80 09:23 BST I predicted that yesterday would feel more like winter than autumn, and it did, but maybe only a mild winter. With the day starting at 6° C (or possibly a little less), and the afternoon temperature only reaching around 12° C, it was definitely a very cool day. There was probably more sunshine than expected, but not a great deal. The day was dry until possibly sometime after dark, but even then it didn't seem to be noticeably wet. I don't know if it was some sort of legacy effect of the stomach upset I had the previous day, or whether it was just because it was cold, but I didn't feel good yesterday. It may even have been a flare up of what I believe was a mild attack of Covid-19 in February. (It had all the symptoms except any breathing difficulties, and only lasted for 4 or 5 days). Once a virus is in your system it rarely goes away completely, but the body does learn to keep it under control. Maybe my defences were low yesterday because it was such a cold day (12° C). My day wasn't completely wasted despite not wanting to undertake any big jobs. As usual, I have a full write up of my day, my evening, my sleep, and how I feel this morning in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
10th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 201 Shopping embargo day 79 08:31 BST Like the previous day, the weather was changing faster than the forecasts could keep up. After a few revisions the forecast seemed to return to the original early morning prediction for the day, and that was almost close to reality. The morning definitely started off very sunny, but gradually that gave way to sunny spells, and eventually rain. The first rain seemed to fall an hour or two after the first predicted time, and at no time did it seem to be heavy rain. If anything it was more like drizzle. After a cold morning, 7° C, it warmed up, and although it still felt rather cool, I seem to think it was actually a bit warmer than the 13° C predicted. I'm sure I saw 15° C on one of my thermometers. I didn't realise that the stomach upset I had reported yesterday morning was still going on long after I finished writing. I had to make several more visits to the toilet during the morning, and afternoon, and it wasn't until about 4pm that I was obviously empty. I have tried to avoid any graphic explanations of how my stomach upset progressed yesterday, but I did try and explain how it left me feeling "ill" yesterday. The only difficulty was describing "ill" - I just felt bad in a non descript way. My full archive page for today has more details, including what few things I did, the naughty food I ate, how I slept, and how this morning all my health indicators say I shouldn't be feeling as bad as I do this morning. |
Friday
9th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 200 Shopping embargo day 78 09:21 BST The weather forecast for yesterday seemed pretty grim, but the weather seemed to be changing faster than the forecasts could be updated. As far as I am aware, after the early morning rain, the rest of yesterday was dry, although there were a few times when the sky looked dark enough for a shower. However there were also a lot of sunny spells, and that is what made yesterday so different to the forecasts. The sunny spells didn't really do anything for the temperature. That was still the 16° C that was forecast for the warmest part of the day. I did not feel very dynamic yesterday morning. That is a sort of coded way of saying I was very lazy, although I must have done something because the morning seemed to pass quite rapidly. After midday I finally started to do some actual work. I cleaned and tidied the dining room in preparation for another Thursday boozing session. We had a good session, and many beers were drunk. That had some predictable consequences like an extra early night to sleep it off, but only for a few hours before I woke up with what turned out to be a sort of stomach upset. The full gruesome details of my day, evening, night and the first few hours of today (with the unpleasant bits replaced by innuendo, or misdirection) are all described in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday
8th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 199 Shopping embargo day 77 09:14 BST Yesterday was generally bright, but I don't think it was as sunny as the forecast predicted. I have to confess that one problem is that I can't use yesterday's forecast to remind me how the day went because the forecast seemed to change nearly every hour to show a different variation on the forecast. Let's just say there were sunny spells from time to time, and it was perfectly dry until well after dark. One common thread through all the revisions of the forecast was that the afternoon temperature would reach 16° C. I think that for a while it almost reached 18° C. My first delivery, a big box of goodies from Star Bargains, had arrived before I finished writing yesterday. It would not be until just gone 1pm until my big box of beers arrived. That gave me enough time to do yet more laundry. That laundry, being a big bath towel used a fair amount of energy. The only other bit of work I did was a bit of gardening, and that was mostly picking tomatoes - so not exactly back breaking work. These tow jobs, and other stuff I did, and ate, and the consequences of that eating (and how that turned out OK this morning) are all written up in my full archive page for today. It also includes my plans for today. |
Wednesday
7th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 198 Shopping embargo day 76 09:01 BST Maybe my memory is faulty, but yesterday afternoon seemed dry, and there were a lot of sunny spells. The part of the weather forecast that was right was the early morning rain. Any rain after that would have fallen after dark when I wasn't watching, and even then I am not convinced there was anything more than a passing shower. I think even the temperature prediction was wrong, and the afternoon got up to something closer to 17 or even 18° C. The prediction was just 15° C. Yesterday's sunshine should have spurred me on to do greater things, but the rot probably set in with the early morning grey and rain. My day was very similar to the day before. My finest achievement was to do some more laundry.I also did some more audio "remastering", but I came to the conclusion I am almost wasting my time - every small improvement comes at the expense of making something else worse. My full archive page for today includes more about these two jobs plus, as usual, some notes about my food, my evening, my drinking, my sleep, and what has happened this morning, and what may still be to come today. |
Tuesday
6th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 197 Shopping embargo day 75 08:18 BST Yesterday was an improvement on previous days. The afternoon featured a lot of nice sunny spells, and the rain predicted for late afternoon didn't seem to fall, although it may have started after dark. The morning was definitely wet though ! The afternoon temperature was around 16° C, and although only a degree or two higher than the previous few days, together with the sunny spells it seemed much more comfortable. I think that I may have done less yesterday than the day before. Like the day before I washed a few more t-shirts, and some other assorted stuff, but that was the only easily described thing I did. Somehow I didn't seem to feel bored, and somehow I didn't seem to have enough time to spends hours and hours reading and snoozing. I can't recall all I did, but I know I did lots of little jobs that when combined must have taken quite a few hours. Doing a system/software update on my laptop was one such job. In reality I just clicked a few buttons and let it get on with it by itself. The other important job was some cooking. See the finished result of my delicious dinner, together with my recollections of the day, the evening, my sleep, and my thoughts this morning in my full archive page for today. |
Monday
5th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 196 Shopping embargo day 74 09:39 BST There may have been the odd 20 minutes when it didn't rain, or when the rain was too light to see from indoors, but essentially it rained all day yesterday. With it being very grey all day, and the maximum temperature being no more than 11° C, it made for a pretty miserable day. Yesterday was a mostly dull day, and I am not just talking about the weather. I wasn't really inspired to do much at all. Considering how little I did, it is surprising how much I seem to have written about it. Writing about food and booze and dreams and my health seems to take so many words ! If you have the stamina you can read the full account on my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
4th October 2020 |
Lockdown day 195 Shopping embargo day 73 09:17 BST Yesterday was not as wet as expected after the morning rain finished at about 11am. The afternoon was mostly dry apart from a few random drops of rain. I seem to recall that the sun did manage to break through for less than a minute on a couple of occasions (or was that just wishful thinking ?). It was another quite cool day with the afternoon temperature only reaching 14° C. Like the day before, I didn't feel up to a long walk, but at least it was dry. Also like the day before, the more I walked, the more I wanted to walk - up to a point. After the morning rain I wanted to see how deep the river was more than anything else. The worst thing about my walk was making the assumption it would rain at some point, and putting my raincoat on. I started out with it undone, and at no time did I need to do it up, but after walking for a mile or so I still started to feel very hot under it.I was feeling sweaty by the time I got home, but I still went home the long way round. The details of my walk, plus another zero budget, wobbly video, illustrating some points along my walk, plus the unpleasant details of last night, and how that benefited me this morning, are all written up in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
3rd October 2020 |
Lockdown day 194 Shopping embargo day 72 09:14 BST Yesterday was wet, cold and wet, grey and cold, grey, wet and cold, and it wasn't very nice. There was less rain in the afternoon, but still some rain. The sky wasn't always dark grey. Sometimes it was light grey. sometimes the rain was light when it was supposed to be heavy, but it still rained. The afternoon temperature was only predicted to be 14° C, and although I can't recall actually checking what my thermometers said, 14° C was probably about right. I did say that the chances of me going out for a walk were very slim yesterday, but I seemed to take that as a self imposed challenge. I have to admit I was very curious about what the river would be like after the heavy rain. I was also curious as to how I would feel not just wearing a coat, but wearing a raincoat during a walk. When I set out I still had in mind that I would just go as far as "The Bridge Of Doom" that crosses the River Pool where it meets the River Ravensbourne in the River Pool Linear Park. I ended up doing a full 3 mile walk, and it was good and bad. The good was seeing what I wanted to see, and the bad was how hot and sweaty I got inside my raincoat, and how the damp seemed to make my legs more creaky than usual. I describe more about my walk, and show a video of it's highlights (assuming your browser can play it), plus there is the usual stuff about eating, sleeping, and my thoughts about this morning in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 193 Shopping embargo day 71 09:32 BST If I were feeling generous I might say that yesterday was pretty good for an October day. After a rather dull and gloomy start to the day there were sunny spells lasting until sunset. While it was out, the sun felt nice and warm, although out of the sun the air was only about 15° C in the afternoon, and that was sort of cool. Compared to the previous few days, yesterday was a good day. I had some nice rest, aka time to read a book, in the morning, although I did do a bit of housework. I hand washed a couple of towels. one just an easy hand towel, and the other was medium sized bath towel. Early afternoon saw me doing a bit more housework. I had to wash the dining room table because that was the easiest way of cleaning the dust and fluff off it after working on old, dusty, PCs on it. I also gave the dining room carpet a good hoovering - partly because of dust and fluff from the old dusty PCs, but it needed it anyway. At about 3.30pm Jodie and Michael joined me for an afternoon boozing session. There is more to this story, plus how my resolve cracked and how I ordered a takeaway for dinner, then how my sleep went, and finally my thoughts and stuff about this morning - all in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 192 Shopping embargo day 70 09:31 BST The weather was very grim yesterday. Apart from some early morning sunshine, most of the day was heavily overcast. There were a few very brief sunny spells scattered through the day, but they were so brief as to be ignorable. For extra misery the afternoon featured rain - sometimes heavy, sometimes light, and sometimes just drizzle. With an afternoon temperature of just 16° C it wasn't cold, but under that gloom it felt very chilly. |
