Lockdown day 191 Shopping embargo day 69 08:59 BST The weather forecast for yesterday was wrong ! I will admit it started off correctly, but it was probably not long after midday that the sun broke through the clouds. As that afternoon progressed there was more and more sunshine. It seem I had the on/off switch for the sun right here in my bedroom. It was not a warm day, but the sun did a good job of warming my bedroom, but only when it was shining. I was quietly reading, and feeling rather cool. I turned on the heater, and the sun immediately came out. After a while I was feeling nice and warm, and so I turned the heater off. Minutes later the sun when back in. This was repeated about 5 times in the course of the afternoon. Mostly I was warm and comfortable while reading, but outside it was no more than 17° C. That is not cold if you are active, but chilly if resting. Yesterday could be described as "a quiet day", and that could be code for saying I hardly did anything of note. I did do a few things, and I describe them, along with my dreams, and my thoughts this morning, in my full archive page for today. |

29th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 190 Shopping embargo day 68 08:55 BST After a dull start yesterday was gloriously sunny. In the sunshine the air temperature of 18° C felt deliciously warm. Once the sun got too low in the sky, maybe around 5pm, perhaps a little later, it seemed to cool down quite quickly - at least in terms of how it felt. On the other hand it didn't seem to get that cold in the night. Yesterday I achieved something I didn't think I would do. I did have some alternate ideas for things to do yesterday, and there were a few things I thought I should definitely do, but by the time I was washed and dressed the lure of the sunshine got too strong. I never did get around to doing that washing up, or re-check the old PC I had been playing with. I just had to get out into the sunshine. Yesterday's walk was one of those walks where I kept daring myself to go further. I ended up walking over 6 miles, and covered lots of new ground. My weight was wonderfully low at the end of the walk, and even though I knew it was partly dehydration I still thought it worth rewarding myself with a takeaway. The full story, complete with a lot of pictures, details of my dinner, how awful my sleep was, and how I feel this morning, along with news about my new PC, are all in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 189 Shopping embargo day 67 08:35 BST Yesterday was dull, dull, and even duller (except maybe for a short while after sunrise)! It was most depressing, and to make matters worse it was rather cool. I suppose 14° C might be considered luxury in the middle of December, but so soon after the warm days of summer it seemed to feel very chilly. Yesterday's grey skies provided no inspiration to do much. More than that, they soaked up any desire to do anything. I guess it didn't matter because Sunday has always been a day of rest, although I actually did very little resting. That's not to say I was rushing around, but I did spent/waste quite a lot of time playing with the old PC I wasted much time on, on Saturday. I did make some progress, but I think I am wasting my time. My day, my evening, my sleep, and this morning are all described as best I can in my full archive page for today. |

27th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 188 Shopping embargo day 66 10:38 BST Yesterday's weather actually matched the forecast quite well. The morning was sunny, and the afternoon was overcast. In the later part of the afternoon is was very overcast. The forecast predicted a 20% chance of rain in the late afternoon, but I think it was more mid afternoon when some very light rain. It is difficult to say how much rain fell because it was so light, but I think it was fairly persistent for probably an hour or two. The most notable thing was how cool it was. The morning started at 8° C (and possibly slightly less), and the afternoon high was only about 12° C. I was still thinking about going for a walk yesterday, but time seemed to slip by without me noticing it, and in the end I decided it was too late to go for a walk. I am not sure why I set an arbitrary deadline for abandoning going for a walk. There is no real reason why I couldn't go out at 3 or even 4pm, but somehow I just seem to think it is best to get going in the morning, although occasionally I got out as late as 1pm. Maybe it is just a fact that if I don't get out early enough I get distracted by other things, and that was probably what happened yesterday. I found enough things to do to keep me occupied for most of the day, and even in the evening when I got very drunk. The full story, plus what I have already done this morning, can be read in my full archive page for today. |

26th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 187 Shopping embargo day 65 08:16 BST Once again, yesterday started very wet, but from mid morning to early afternoon it was frequently bright and sunny. Later in the afternoon it got very dull again, but I don't really recall any rain falling. The day started very cool, and it didn't really warm up beyond about 14° C. I definitely didn't feel keen to go for a walk yesterday, but I also definitely wanted to see what had been done to "The Bridge Of Doom" in the Linear Park. I thought I would just do a short walk to see the bridge, and then come home again. I didn't even bother to put on my proper boots when I went out. I just wore a pair of cheap and cheerful trainers. For this walk I put a coat on - the first time I have worn a coat since late spring (or maybe earlier). My afternoon was mainly spent playing about with some old computer bits. There is a video showing the newly refurbished bridge, and more details about my day, and my thoughts this morning on my full archive page for today. |

25th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 186 Shopping embargo day 64 08:10 BST Yesterday started very wet, but from mid morning to early afternoon it was frequently bright and sunny. In fact it was probably more sunny than not. At about 1.25pm there was a short, but very heavy fall of rain. This had actually been forecast for 2pm. Once the cloud producing the rain realised it was far too early it quickly went away, and the sun came out again for the next couple of hours. There were a few quite light, and often brief, showers in the latter part of the afternoon, but towards sunset there was more persistent rain, but even that finished by mid evening. The temperature probably got a bit higher than the predicted 15° C. I think I saw the thermometer read about 17° C at one point. Yesterday was a busy day. In the morning I went out for a 3.7 mile walk which involved going up a lot of hills - at least one of which was horrendously steep. In the afternoon There was a torrential fall of rain, and a bit later another soaking - this time of beer down three throats - Michael, Jodie, and myself. My full archive page for today has the full story with pictures from my walk. It also has bad news about my weight, how and why I was awake for half the night, and my usual thoughts and speculations about the morning and day. |

24th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 185 Shopping embargo day 63 08:49 BST Yesterday was most definitely wet, but only in the early morning, and from mid afternoon onwards. The forecast said heavy rain in the morning, but it seemed like light rain to me. If anything the heaviest rain was in the late afternoon when it was forecast to be just light rain. Between the morning and afternoon rainfall it was fairly bright, and sometimes sunny. The real shock was the temperature. It was considerably cooler than the previous day. 18° C was the highest temperature, but I did note my outside thermometer almost hit 20° C quite late in the afternoon. It did seem to cool rapidly after dark. Yesterday morning seemed to slip past far too fast. It wasn't helped by another rambling phone call from Lee that must have lasted almost an hour. Before I knew it, it was midday, and still hadn't had a shower. I pretty much knew at that point that I would not be going for a walk, and probably wasn't really going to do anything at all. That prediction was pretty accurate. It seems I did little more than read, both from screen, and paper, and eat. The brief(ish) but sad tale all I did yesterday, and it's consequences this can be read in my full archive page for today. It also includes my predictions for what I might do today - probably some walking and some drinking. |
Wednesday
23rd September 2020 |
Lockdown day 184 Shopping embargo day 62 08:55 BST Yesterday's 23° C actually felt close to hot - particularly in the strong feeling sunshine. There was a lot of sunshine yesterday. Probably more than the forecast seemed to suggest. Towards sunset there was a taste of what is coming today as it started to get cloudy. My cheese delivery arrived at about 9.30am yesterday - about in the middle of the one hour time slot I was advised of. With my cheese delivery out of the way so early I had plenty of time to do other stuff before going out for a walk. "Other stuff" was almost exclusively doing a bit of laundry. After that there was a sort of test of my health and fitness - a short walk, but one involving climbing to the highest part of Hilly Fields. I couldn't comment on my health and fitness, but it does seem my stamina continues to slowly improve. The full description of my walk, complete with a load of pictures, plus lots of other stuff from yesterday, and from this morning, can be seen in my full archive page for today. |

22nd September 2020 |
Lockdown day 183 Shopping embargo day 61 07:18 BST It seemed to take ages before the sun broke through the clouds yesterday morning. It must have been around midday, and that was rather later than forecast. An hour later there didn't seem to be a cloud in the sky, and the temperature rose to about 23° C. The day had turned from horrible to really nice within the space of an hour ! Unlike the day before, I was definitely active yesterday. I achieved my objective for the day - that being to try and take a few snaps of "The Bridge Of Doom" in the River Pool Linear Park while it was being repaired. It involved a long walk than I originally thought, or maybe I made it longer because I was feeling mostly OK. The full story, with pictures, and why I felt less than 100% while I was out, plus the usual waffle about food, sleeping, and my thoughts and plans this morning, are all in my full archive page for today. |
Monday
21st September 2020 |
Lockdown day 182 Shopping embargo day 60 08:26 BST Yesterday was another mostly sunny day - even if the forecast suggested the afternoon might be occasionally dull. Maybe it was sometimes, but those sometimes were easy to overlook. The problem with the forecast is that it could not be revised quickly enough to match reality. It did get the temperature about right. It went up to 23° C, and that was rather nice. Yesterday was almost a day of rest - which is the tradition for a Sunday. I don't think I had intended to rest as much as I did. On the other hand I must have been a bit busy for a fair time because the day seemed to slip past without any boredom creeping in. The most important thing is that I was very careful not to put too much stress on the big, and now blood filled, blister on the ball of my right foot. Among the things I did was some laundry, some photography in my garden, and eating a little more than I probably should have. All that is described, with the picture, in my full archive page for today. Also included in it is how I had a bad night's sleep, and my morning thoughts about the today. |
Sunday
20th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 181 Shopping embargo day 59 08:52 BST There seemed to be more sunshine than predicted in the forecast yesterday. Around midday, with the sun almost overhead, it felt very hot. From time to time a few clouds did obscure the sun for a while, but it was definitely more sunny than not. The afternoon temperature was predicted to be 22° C, but I think it may have got a bit higher. A significant change to my plans for the day happened when I got an answer to a text message I sent to Richard "Dik" Tokarski. I asked what time he would be busking with Marta, He replied that she was feeling ill, and so they would not be doing anything until maybe next weekend. My original plan had been to go out sometime after 2pm, on the assumption that they would start their busking around 3pm. I thought I might take a less direct route than the 1.5 miles to where they would be playing. Once I found out there would be nothing to see in that direction I changed my plans to go out much earlier...or so I thought. I ended up doing a long walk - which was good. Then discovered something that was very bad, and which really pissed me off. I followed that by eating more than I might have. Ultimately what I ate was no problem, and together with the walk produced some good result this morning. All the details of my walk, lavishly illustrated by many more pictures than usual, plus some brief details of how I felt really pissed off, brief details of my dinner, my sleep, and something about this morning, are all in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
19th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 180 Shopping embargo day 58 08:01 BST One of the unexpected features of yesterday's weather was wind. It really was quite gusty around midday, and it made it feel quite fresh. Yesterday was a very sunny day, and I think the original forecast for non stop sunshine from dawn to dusk was just about right. It is a shame the temperature only rose to just 20° C. Yesterday was a good day. In fact probably the best for almost a week. Two important things happened. The first was that I got out for a walk. It wasn't a long walk, but it felt quite long. I was actually a bit disappointed when I got home and saw how short it was. It seemed as if it was longer than it was because it involved going up a lot of hills, and covered some ground I had never explored before. The second was an afternoon beer session with Jodie and Michael. It was a special session because it was the first time I showed off my new video projector. I showed my own videos of a selection of bands I had seen over the last couple of years. It wasn't quite dark enough for really good pictures, but seeing Miranda Bell (Angela's daughter) singing almost life size (among others) was the closest we could get to actually being there. There is more about the afternoon, plus details of my walk, partly illustrated with a few pictures, plus the usual stuff about my dinner, my sleep, and my thoughts and plans this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
Friday
18th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 179 Shopping embargo day 57 09:31 BST Yesterday was a mostly sunny day. There were some spells when the sun was blocked by a few clouds that didn't appear in the forecast, but they were usually brief and sort of random. For all that it was not what you could call a hot day. The temperature rose to about the forecast 20° C. That was warm and pleasant, but far from hot. I couldn't raise much enthusiasm for doing anything yesterday. I think I was feeling a bit depressed for some reason. My biggest, and maybe only achievement was to make a long audio lead so I could connect my projector to my speakers across the other side of the room where the screen is. Other "achievements" included eating badly, and cancelling Jodie's invite to come over and have some beer, because it seemed like she would be able to get here until far too late in the afternoon. I seem to have written a fair bit about a day that was rather unexciting, and the consequences of it this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday
17th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 178 Shopping embargo day 56 08:49 BST The forecast painted a mostly gloomy picture for yesterday, but it turned out to be brighter. There were sunny spells popping up at any time through much of the day, but the first few hours of the morning were dull enough for it to feel like it might rain (which the BBC incorrectly predicted would happen). The afternoon temperature was about 23° C, and that was pleasant. After only getting little more than an hours sleep the previous night I expected yesterday to be a very lazy day. At times it was, and I did have at least one snooze that probably lasted for about an hour, but otherwise I was fairly alert, and doing stuff. Quite what a lot of that stuff was is hard to say. Mostly it was little jobs, but I did do one big job, and was probably doing it for at least an hour. I describe that job with pictures that don't show the enormity of the job (from my sweating perspective), and, as usual, describe more of my day, my dinner, my evening, my sleep, and my thoughts for this morning, plus my very vague plans for today, in my full archive page for today. |
Wednesday
16th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 177 Shopping embargo day 55 08:22 BST The temperature reached the predicted 28° C yesterday, but somehow it didn't feel more than warm...maybe fairly warm, but not hot except in direct sunshine. The morning, and early after was sunny, but from sometime, maybe at the predicted time of 3pm, it started to get a bit cloudy. It never really recovered from that. There were still sunny spells, but the sunshine seemed sort of hazy, or dilute. Yesterday was a day that was mostly good, had a very bad, or annoying end, but a fair night. Actually it might have been a good night. I had already decided not to go out walking for a fourth consecutive day. I had a few things to do at home, and I fancied resting my feet. I wasn't idle though...well not all the time. Instead of giving my leg muscles a workout, I gave my arms a workout. It started with washing a hand towel, and a medium sized bath towel. Towels can get very heavy when saturated with water ! I washed those two, and hung them out on the line to dry. At this time of year the sun never gets to shine on the washing line, and with not much wind they were still very slightly damp when I brought them in to finish drying sometime around 4 or 5pm. The reason for bringing them in then was because I needed the line for another item of laundry. That other item was a big bath towel. It was bloody heavy when wet, and impossible to wring out by hand. 20 minutes of my time was spend sunbathing. The fullest description of my day, my evening, and my night, along with my thoughts this morning, can be read in my full archive page for today. This also includes why my evening went very wrong, and how I spent most of the night awake ! |
Tuesday
15th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 176 Shopping embargo day 54 08:57 BST I don't think yesterday hit the predicted 28° C. I think it was more like 25° C - which is still very good ! It was dry day, in the sense that the air seemed dry, as well as no rain, and the sun was shining through all the hours of daylight. I had to go out for a walk in the lovely warm sunshine - both because my health demanded it, and because it was warm and sunny and rather lovely out. However before I could go out I had some tasks to complete. First of all was some laundry. I washed 3 t-shirts plus some underwear. Once washed I hung it outside to dry. There was not a lot of wind to speed up the drying, but it was all 99% dry when I brought it in some 7 hours later. With the laundry done I turned my attention to the garden. Finally I went for a walk. It was a comparatively short walk compared to my recent average, but it really knackered me. I describe all this in more detail, along with some pictures taken of my garden, and details of my weird dinner, how I slept, and my morning thoughts, in my full archive page for today. |
Monday
14th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 175 Shopping embargo day 53 08:43 BST Yesterday was warm and sunny. The afternoon temperature reached about 24° C - rather splendid compared to recently ! Today we wake up to an England that is as close to martial law as can be got in peacetime. It is allegedly to keep the proles safe from a second wave of Covid-19 - the rather over-rated virus - but I see it as a rehearsal for next January when a "hard Brexit" happens. Shortages and incomplete laws could lead to rioting. For this rehearsal there is, from today, a 10pm curfew, and no more than 6 people can gather together. As yet the army will not be brought in to shoot people breaking curfew or in bigger gatherings. The same may not be true in January. Yesterday turned out to be a good day to end freedom. Not a lot happened in the morning, although somehow I wasn't ready to wash my hair, have a shower, and start getting dressed until midday ! Even when half dressed I didn't do anything useful like water the garden. I was just resting up until it was time to go out for a walk - a special walk. It was a three mile round trip to see a gig. I left early, but spent around 90 enjoyable minutes at the gig. There is a longer description of the gig, with photos, plus what a yummy dinner I had, how I slept, and my thoughts this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
13th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 174 Shopping embargo day 52 10:00 BST Once again yesterday was sunnier than the forecast predicted. It was mostly, but not wholly, a rather nice day, and the afternoon temperature of 20° C felt very nice. There were a few times when the clouds seemed to thicken, and almost look threatening, but they seemed to dissipate again very quickly. Yesterday I didn't have to worry about any deliveries, and I was free to indulge myself in any way that I fancied. This meant going for a walk in the sunshine...well, a lot of it was in sunshine, but it did cloud over a few times. Before going for a walk I had the little matter of an unwanted visitor to deal with - the mouse in my kitchen. It was a task I was not looking forward to. I found the mouse had got at a source of food it shouldn't have. I cleaned and scrubbed the work surface with antibacterial cleaning cloths. I then set out a series of mousetraps along the path the mouse had been taking. After that I was free to go out for a walk. I covered just 42 yards short of 4 miles even with my right leg, particularly around the knee, giving me some bad discomfort. The whole story about the mouse, my walk, my dinner, my sleep, and my thoughts this morning, plus pictures from my walk, can be seen in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
12th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 173 Shopping embargo day 51 08:44 BST Yesterday was a (mostly) sunny day - sunny enough that it would make you think that the temperature could rise to more than 20° C (although most of the afternoon was just 19° C). The short story is I wasted a lot of time waiting for a parcel that subsequently disappointed. I ate too many snacks, and my dinner was delicious but not good for me. My evening was ultimately spoiled by audible evidence that I have a new mouse in my kitchen. The full story, including why I really need to go on a long walk today, but possibly won't, is all in my full archive page for today. |
Friday
11th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 172 Shopping embargo day 50 08:32 BST Yesterday was very sunny, but it was disappointingly cool. Not cold, or even chilly, but just 19° C after all that sunshine felt like being short changed. Yesterday was a good day. I had my latest beer order delivered, and then soon after a really good drinking session with Michael, Jodie, Mark and Arm. Mark was there to pick up Jodie to go out to eat with Arm, and Arm was there because it was easy for him to jump on a train to meet Jodie and Mark here. Our mini party ended after my usual dinner time, and laziness and the effects of the beer lead me to ordering an Indian takeaway. I only ate a part of it (more today), but it was delicious. The long version of this story, with pictures, and other stuff that happened yesterday, plus, as usual, my thoughts this morning, can all be found in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday
10th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 171 Shopping embargo day 49 09:31 BST Once again yesterday was brighter than the forecast predicted. The best sunny periods were in the first half of the morning. The start of the afternoon was sometimes a bit dull, but it wasn't long before the sun broke through the clouds again to give more sunny spells. The afternoon temperature rose to 21° C, and it felt like a good day to lock the bathroom window open again. I was almost tempted to go out for a walk yesterday, but I allowed the flimsiest, and one important excuse to stop me. The important thing was that I was expecting a parcel delivery, and it arrived rather earlier than expected. It was a good thing I didn't try and go out in the early afternoon. The full story of my day, what the parcel was, what I ate, how crap my sleep was, and my plans and thoughts for this morning, are all to be read in my full archive page for today. |
Wednesday
9th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 170 Shopping embargo day 48 08:39 BST After a dull morning yesterday afternoon was often sunny. The occasional sunny spells almost lasted until sunset. It was a dry day, and the afternoon temperature just crossed the threshold to feel warm at 23° C. I was a bit concerned about my weight yesterday morning. It initially seemed I hadn't lost a single gram in the previous 24 hours. Well I suppose that was better than actually gaining weight. What I didn't realise while I was writing yesterday morning was that I had more visits to the toilet in store. That stopped me doing some thing, and in doing so, allowed me to do other things. I did a whole lot of mostly insignificant things, and some significant things yesterday. I describe them all in loose ways in my full archive page for today. It includes some thoughts and good news this morning. |
Tuesday
8th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 169 Shopping embargo day 47 08:23 BST Yesterday was quite bright for a lot of the day. Sometimes clouds would drift over, and make it dull for a while. I didn't bother to time them, it's not the sort of thing you do unless you are an extreme weather fanatic, but I estimate that the dull periods were rarely more than half an hour each. Unfortunately for my garden it didn't rain at all. The temperature ended up as quite reasonable 21° C in the late afternoon. As intended, I didn't go for a walk yesterday, but as not intended, I didn't do half the things I thought I might do. Despite that it was not a boring day, or at least it didn't seem so to me. That doesn't mean there was much to say about yesterday, but what there was is in my full archive page for today. It also includes my thoughts and observations about this morning. |
Monday
7th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 168 Shopping embargo day 46 08:36 BST Yesterday was a sunnier than the forecast suggested it would be. Sometimes it would be sunny with quite dark looking clouds occupying part of the sky. Unfortunately it wasn't so sunny for the first few hours of the afternoon. At least it stayed dry, although that really meant I should have watered the garden. The afternoon temperature rose to about 19° C. I reckoned there was a 75% chance of going for another walk yesterday, and with the sun shining when I was ready to go out, that is exactly what I did. Unfortunately the sun was quite intermittent, and I rarely had the joy of walking in sunshine. My plan was to walk to Forest Hill, and then re-visit some of the parts I had walked around with my mum maybe 60 years ago. That was exactly what I did, and took many pictures along the way. The pictures, and the commentary on them, plus what I did for the rest of the day, how I had a terrible night, and my thoughts this morning, are all in my full archive page for today. |
Sunday
6th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 167 Shopping embargo day 45 08:25 BST Yesterday was another day that started bright, but clouded over around lunchtime. If I recall correctly there were some sunny periods later in the afternoon that didn't appear in the forecast. The morning, and maybe afternoon sunshine, warmed my front, south facing rooms up nicely, but outside it was something better than "mild", but maybe not "warm". The temperature only rose to 18° C. It did look like it might rain once or twice in the late afternoon, but stayed dry. I finished yesterday saying I would probably go for a walk, but that it would take no much of a distraction to stop me. Evidently there was no distraction, and from the route I took, I must have been feeling quite positive about the walk once I had had a shower. I thought the route I had in mind was rather ambitious, and so it turned out to be, although it was actually shorter than I guessed. I expected it to be 5 miles or more, and yet it was only 4 miles, but it did involve some very high, and very steep hills ! My route is described with pictures, and what I did in the afternoon, evening, night, and some of this morning is all in my full archive page for today. |
Saturday
5th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 166 Shopping embargo day 44 07:12 BST Yesterday morning was eventually bright, but fairly cool. The brightness didn't last long, and although I am sure I can remember an occasional minute or two of sunshine later, from later morning it was generally overcast. Sometime in the late evening there was some rain, but I don't really know how much. At least the garden looks damp this morning. The afternoon temperature rose to about 19° C. The highlight of yesterday, if it can be called a highlight, was an early morning walk to the pharmacy. It is only a 5 minute walk there, and so not really significant when compared to my usual walks. The reason for visiting the pharmacy was to pick up my latest repeat prescription. I arrived there before they had even opened, and had to wait for 10 minutes before I could go in. It was fairly predictable that my prescription was not complete, but on this occasion it was close to it. I picked up my complete prescription a couple of hours later. Not a lot else happened yesterday, but I have described what I could, and there are also my thoughts this morning about my health and stuff in my full archive page for today. |
Friday
4th September 2020 |
Lockdown day 165 Shopping embargo day 43 08:49 BST The rain forecast for yesterday happened much later in the afternoon than predicted. I think it was getting on for 6pm when it started. It was not heavy rain, but I think it continued, on and off, for several hours. Before the rain it was generlly overcast. Sometimes it was quite dark, but mostly it was fairly light, and there were a few times when the sun managed to peep through the clouds. The temperature managed a rather humid feeling 21° C by early afternoon. I was unsure if I wanted to go for a walk yesterday. I was feeling creaky, and my rib cage was feeling sore, but by late morning I felt I could tackle a short walk. Like many short walks it turned out to be a bit longer than I thought I would walk. I took my Canon "Powershot" SX40 bridge camera on this walk, and so my description of the day includes lots of pictures. Later in the day Jodie popped over to test my new cheese for me, and I then I hastened her departure by cooking fish for dinner. All this, including the pictures, what a good and bad night I had, plus what has been happening this morning, is written in my full archive page for today. |
Thursday
3rd September 2020 |
Lockdown day 164 Shopping embargo day 42 07:51 BST Yesterday started sunny, but sometimes it was just sunny spells rather than full on sunshine. The sunny spells faded to lightly overcast by about 1pm, or maybe a little later. It was probably around 4pm when rain started to fall, and the showers seemed to continue, on and off until late evening. I paid little attention to the outside world during the evening, and I can't say how much rain fell, but I was convinced it was more than enough to water the garden for the day. The afternoon temperature was around 20° C, and as my body gets acclimatised to these cooler days it felt warm enough to me. The most significant thing about yesterday was the delivery of the cheese I ordered...well, sort of significant. Maybe more significant was that the delivery was early enough for me to get out for what ended up as a fairly long walk that started soon after midday. Once again I took a proper camera with me for some more interesting shots (not all of which were better than my little pocket Canon could manage). I describe my walk with loads of pictures, and then my afternoon, evening, night, and this morning, without pictures. It can all be seen in my full archive page for today. |

Lockdown day 163 Shopping embargo day 41 08:35 BST Yesterday's weather was confusing. The morning started off very chilly, just under 9° C, and the back of the house, particularly my dining room, seemed to stay rather cool all day. It wasn't until I went outside to water my window boxes, at the front of the house, that I realised that it was warm out there, and even hot in the sunshine. The sunshine lasted for quite a lot of the morning and afternoon, but by 5pm it had clouded over enough to stop any sunshine apart from a heroic burst of it just as the sun was sinking below the horizon at sunset. The afternoon temperature may have been a degree more than the forecast temperature of 19° C, but you had to be outside, and preferably in the sun to enjoy it. Yesterday
was dominated by waiting for a parcel delivery
that didn't arrive ! At 3pm it became obvious
there had been a cockup because the robot that
sends out the delivery prediction had forgotten
that Monday was a bank holiday. I now have a
more positive delivery slot for between 11am and
midday today. I almost made good use of my time
yesterday - even if some of it involved eating
and drinking. All that can be described about
yesterday, along with all I can describe of this
morning, can be read in my full archive page
for today.

Lockdown day 162 Shopping embargo day 40 08:20 BST Yesterday seemed rather variable. Sometimes it was bright, and sometimes dull. I seem to recall that the morning was the sunniest half of the day. It was dry all day, and the temperature reached 18° C, but not until quite late in the afternoon. Yesterday was not a great day. I found it hard to motivate myself, and probably the main reason for that was that I was not feeling good. If it was a Covid-19 infection I had back in February, then it could have been the virus having another go at me. I ached in a mild 'flu sort of way, and I had a weak but persistent headache. I even had a touch of that chesty sort of feeling that is a bit like asthma, but isn't. I could breath perfectly OK, and my Pulse Oximeter said my blood oxygen saturation was still in the 97 - 98% region (i.e. as high, or higher than many people who have never been a heavy, or indeed any kind of smoker). Despite not feeling 100% I did manage to do some useful tasks. As usual, there is a description of my day, plus how I feel this morning, in my full archive page for today. |
