The chance of a
sunny afternoon seems to be slipping away
in the latest revision to the forecast.
The early forecast tried, but failed to
predict the weather this morning. The rain
predicted for 9am never happened. There
was some rain in the small hours, but I'm
not sure they lasted until 7am (or even
6am). Sometime not long after 8am the sun
was trying to come out. There were big
patches of blue, and big, but individual
clouds in the sky. We just had to wait
until the cloud got out of the way of the
sun. I guess at the moment we are having
long sunny spells. I think it will just be
pot luck as to how long this situation can
last. The highest chance of rain at any
time from now until midnight is only 10%,
and mostly 5% or less, and so it will
probably be dry for the rest of the day.
It will be cooler today, and the highest
temperature of 10° C may only last a
couple of hours. It currently looks like
tomorrow will start grey and very wet, and
while the rain should stop, it will still
be grey. Curiously enough it could get
almost warm, 14° C, by late afternoon.
Yesterday turned out to be
another lazy day, but it might have turned
out differently. My main preoccupation in
the morning was the surprise news that my
strong Belgium beer was finally going to
be delivered between 11am and midday. This
was all very mysterious because the
official timeline said it had not been
collected from the brewery by the day
before. It was almost as if it had been
collected from the brewery, and than
rushed to an airport to be flown to London
City airport. It was then being rushed
from the airport direct to me. It all
seemed a bit fishy, but it certainly
arrived in my one hour time slot (that I
had been notified about at just gone 6am
yesterday morning).
I must confess I took a pretty
crappy picture of the box of beers
yesterday. There is glare from the window
behind me at the top of the box, and the
colours look washed out. In reality it is
a very richly coloured box.
All I hope now is that it tastes as
wonderful as I believe it could. It is a
slight shame that it is only 8.8%. That is
strong, even stronger than the now
legendary Young's Winter Warmer in it's
prime (about 20 years ago), but I was sort
of hoping it would be insanely strong.
With the beer (and it's special
decorated, thistle shaped glass) safely in
my hands I could relax. Unfortunately I
relaxed a little too much. My intention
was to lay on my bed for 10 minutes, read
a page or two of the book I am reading,
and then go for a walk in the sunshine.
Unfortunately the sunshine
streaming through my bedroom windows felt
so nice that I fell asleep. I am unsure
how long I snoozed for, but the sun was
passed it's best when I woke up. It was
still shining, but not into my front
windows.
That made me hesitant to go out.
That hesitation was accidently very wise.
By the time I had got myself together the
sky was getting very cloudy. In
another hour heavy rain would be falling,
and if I had gone out I would have been
drowned !
Instead of going out I decided that
what I needed to warm myself up a bit was
some hot food. As I headed to the kitchen
I intended to have some low sugar soup,
but when I entered the kitchen my eyes
alighted on some packets of instant
noodles. Some instant noodles are less
healthy than others (and I am mainly
thinking about sugar content here). The
trouble is that my 66½ year old eyes are
no so keen, and I am less inclined to try
and read fine print on a crinkly packet. I
suspect that those noodles were not as low
in sugar as some. It was a silly choice
because instant noodles are not nice,
although it always seems like they should
be. Oh well, at least they are almost
nice.
My dinner was also not designed to
be as low in sugars as it could have been,
but like all naughty things it was rather
nice. It was roasted root vegetables with
the spare roast chicken things left over
from the previous night's dinner. The root
vegetables were a carrot, two small
parsnips, a medium sized "chunky chipped"
sweet potato and just three small, marble
sized shallots. Those little shallots are
too small and fiddly to prepare. I would
have had a few more if I had the patience
to prepare them.
I did nothing of note during the
afternoon except some simple cooking. I
think I probably had another snooze. If I
did it would explain why it was so late
before I managed to fall asleep last
night. Once asleep I think I slept OK. The
only anomaly was when I woke up in the
small hours with a nasty taste in my
mouth. I think it was from a small abscess
that painlessly pops up mow and then in
the site of where several teeth are
missing. There is a cavity there which
goes down to the bone, or appears to. It
is never painful because I believe the
dentist destroyed most of the nerves in
the area when she pumped in more and more
anaesthetic to try and stop an agonising
extraction that she botched badly. The bad
taste was from the contents of that now
burst abscess.
I woke up this morning feeling
moderately OK. There abscess appeared to
have fully drained in the night, and
nothing appeared (or hurt) when I gave the
area a good brushing when I cleaned my
teeth. I was surprised I didn't feel a few
bits of stiffness, and a few aches after a
day of very little physical activity. The
only negative thing was my blood glucose.
It had gone up to 8.3mmol/l. I really
ought to try and get that down a bit, but
at least it is not up in the silly area
like it has been on several mornings this
month.
I have already done a little bit if
exercise this morning. After showering,
and washing my hair, I went to get some
shopping from the little supermarket on
Catford Bridge. I particularly wanted some
fruit, although of course I bought more
than that. There was almost nothing I
bought that couldn't wait until tomorrow
when I go to Aldi, but on the other hand
the fruit from the little supermarket
tends to be nicer, maybe more naturally
ripened, that the fruit from Aldi. Plus
there were a few odd (foreign) things I
bought that are not available from Aldi.
Well the plan now is to go for a
walk in the park while the sun is out. My
legs did feel rather stiff as I walked to
the supermarket earlier, and so it would
be a good idea to go for another walk to
loosen them up more. On the other hand it
does make the idea of a walk less
attractive. I guess I am teetering at the
moment, and it might only take the sun to
go in for a while and I might decide to
stay in despite having nothing to do.
