Yesterday's weather forecast couldn't make up it's mind about when, and if we would have any sunny spells. In the end we didn't have any worth mentioning (I have a vague memory of some very hazy sunshine for 5 or 10 minutes, but it was barely able to cast a shadow). Other than that, it was dry and cold, although contrary to the forecast it did seem to warm up as midnight approached - "warm" as in 5° C. It was mostly 3° C during the day.
another grey day
The latest revision to the forecast says there are sunny spells right now, but by 10am the weather will continue in a similar fashion to that shown in the screenshot above. Unless the sun comes out again before 10am, the truth will be that there were a few brief flashes of sunshine just before 9am. The sun was still so low in the sky that all I saw was a few house roofs lit up by sunshine. It was literally a few, maybe 3 terraced houses, that were lit up. The sun was coming through a tiny gap in the clouds ! From 7pm there is a high chance of rain, but before that it will probably be dry. The most notable thing is that the afternoon temperature could be 8° C. That is almost warm compared to the last few days. Tomorrow will start very wet, but by sunrise the rain should have stopped. By 2pm the clouds should have gone to reveal sunshine all afternoon. In the very early morning rain it could be 9° C, but only 6° C in the afternoon - which isn't that bad.

I thought yesterday was going to be another day which would sound very boring because I couldn't claim to do anything dynamic at all. That was certainly how the morning went, but I think it was soon after midday when I decided I really did need to wash my hair and have a shower. With no one around to offend, such things have been taking quite a low priority recently, but yesterday I finally got myself clean and sparkling.....well, maybe not sparkling, but fresh and deodorised.

I have to admit it made me feel good, and it definitely perked me up. Once my hair was dry I decided I would go out to the mini supermarket on the bridge to buy some strong Polish beer. I think I have already mentioned that I am hoarding some of these beers in case Brexit red tape means they disappear off the shelf, or there is a huge price rise. I bought 6 cans this time, and I also bought several other items.

One thing had put me off going out, and that was my right knee was really playing up yesterday. In fact my whole right leg, from the knee down seemed painful to one degree or another. Even my foot seems to complain a bit. I am unsure what caused it - maybe some sort of rheumatism, or gout ? Every time I had been sitting down for a long while I would have to limp. Going for a walk, even a short one to buy beer seemed a bit silly, as did trying out a potentially uncomfortable pair of trainers - flourescent orange trainers !

I bought these trainers in a sale 6 or 7 years ago. At the time I thought they were far too bright, but they matched my orange winter coat, and so yesterday I tried wearing them in public for the first time. Curiously enough it felt sort of good. I had been worried that they would not be comfortable because I now tend to go for the next size up. I don't think I would dare go on any walk further than the to the local shops, but they seemed to be OK for that. Maybe the pain from my knee and leg were masking any discomfort from the trainers.

The other most significant things I bought yesterday included a loaf of olive bread, and a couple of tubs of spicy hummus. Bread is something I very rarely buy, but that loaf looked too delicious to ignore. It was very delicious, and I had to be careful not to get carried away eating it. I cut two slices and made a cheese sandwich, and another two slices, one being the crusty end piece, and used them to scoop up the spicy hummus.

The afternoon seemed to fly by after going to the shop/mini supermarket. Maybe drinking 2 cans of strong Polish beer helped the time fly by. All too soon it was dinner time. There were many possibilities for dinner, but after eating that bread, and a few other semi-naughty things, I opted for a very simple dinner of canned stewed beef. One can was the very cheap, but tasty, soup like stuff I mentioned not too long ago. Being mostly gravy it was low in everything. The other can was a more expensive, Tesco brand if I recall correctly, minced beef with onion. It was a little more substantial, but somehow not as good.

One other event yesterday was my sister sending me an email. It was partly to find out how I was after my last email to her said I seemed to have come down with a cold, and partly to send me a picture. In my previous email I had complained about it being cold. Catford is essentially in a valley, and so gets some shelter. My sister lives in Biggin Hill, very near the airport. It is very high, and very exposed up there. Yesterday morning her back garden looked like this  - very cold !

I was keen to get to bed last night so I could rest my right leg. It felt OK to lay on my back reading, but I can't sleep like that...well, I can, but only when snoozing for some odd reason. Once I turned out the light, and turned on my side, my knee started playing up. It depended on just how I was paying down. Some positions were better than others. In some positio0ns my ankle and foot complained. After a while I realised I would have to take a couple of Paracetamol to calm the discomfort down. it took a while to work, but eventually I got to sleep.

I slept for a few hours before waking up for a pee, and I limped to the toilet and back. It took a while to fall back to sleep again, and once again I slept for a few more hours. The next time I woke up it seemed like the Paracetamol was wearing off, but I still managed to get another hour or so of sleep. The next time I woke up I didn't fight to get back to sleep I wanted to get up early so I could get out to Aldi soon after than had opened this morning.                                                     new beers to try

The curious thing about when I finally got up was that my knee seemed to be feeling much better. It still ached, but it didn't seem as bad as it had been in the night. It seems to be still slowly improving. I wondered how it would feel like when walking to Aldi, but before that I had a few other things to do like spending some time in the bathroom. Some of that time was for things like brushing my teeth, and brushing my hair. The rest of the time was for what Americans think bathroom implies - better known as the shit house around these parts !

My walk to Aldi wasn't bad at all. My knee was still mildly complaining, along with a few other bits of my legs, but it was mostly ignorable. I can't say it was a pleasant walk. Only a walk in warm sunshine in shirtsleeves could ever be described as pleasant.  as usual I only had a vague idea of what I wanted to buy, and I was mostly inspired by what I saw.

One thing I saw that instantly motivated me was some more beer in bottles with wired corks. As a rule, Belgium Abbey Beer is very good. I am unsure if I have had Blonde (pale coloured) beer with spices, and so these two bottles on the right will be very interesting to taste. They are 6.2% = strong, but not very strong. The bottles say best before March next year, but those wired corks should keep the beer fresh for long after that. Beer doesn't age in the same way that wine does, and I believe (but don't know for sure) that all wines are not suitable for very long storage times. I would guess these beers would still be very nice after 5 years. So there is no rush to drink them, and yet I feel I ought to taste one bottle before I go to Aldi next week in case I want to stock up on more bottles if it is as good as I hope.

Walking back from Aldi, carrying a lot of heavy shopping, definitely stoked up my knee...or was it my leg ? I keep saying my knee, but sometimes I think there is more pain from the muscle just below the knee itself. It is all a bit mysterious. With today currently having a good chance of a sunny afternoon (according the latest forecast) I think I will be happy to rest my leg today. I do have one definite job to amuse me today. Yesterday I left some laundry soaking in detergent. I intended to finish washing it yesterday afternoon, but it seems I didn't find the time...or inclination ! Today is will be horribly cold and slimy, but I will grit my teeth, and get it all rinsed and fabric conditioned, then hung up to dry. Apart from that I have no idea what I will be doing.
