It is
bloody cold right now. My outside
thermometer agrees with the prediction
of -4° C, but much of the sky is blue,
and the sun will soon make it over the
rooftops, and a lot of today could be
sunny, or if not sunny, then it will
feature sunny spells. By 1pm the
temperature may have risen to 0° C, and
a few hours later it will be 1° C. It
should stay there until 9am tomorrow
when it will rise another degree.
Tomorrow should see the slow transition
to slightly warmer days, and also back
to wetter days. Monday might be almost
warm if the wind is light enough. From
then on most days should see the
temperature hit 10° C, and sometimes a
bit more. It is the first hint that
spring will eventually arrive.
I seemed to forget to show this
picture yesterday. It is of yesterday's
sunrise. All that red should have
heralded a lousy day, but unless you
count the temperature, which you
shouldn't, it was actually a nice and
bright day. There was a slightly red
sunset, not nearly as spectacular as
this, but weather lore says it foretells
of good weather. It seems that once
again, if you ignore the temperature, it
will be a fine day.
I am not very good at
multitasking. I don't mean the more
traditional meaning of doing many things
at the same time, but doing lots of
things one after the other. Going out to
get my Covid jab seemed like such an
important thing that I didn't feel the
need, or just didn't want to do anything
more for the rest of the day. It seemed
like a perfect time to lay on my bed,
quietly reading.
Unfortunately I couldn't keep
that up for too long, and I did do other
stuff. One thing involved a bit of
physical effort, and tested how my arm
felt after the needle was stuck in it. I
hand washed a couple of t-shirts and
half a dozen pairs of underpants. There
didn't seem to be any real physical
reason not to do the whole lot in one
sitting, but I didn't for one simple
reason, I was something like bored, but
not bored. The problem is that I was
doing something on my PC, and get
wanting to get back to it. I did that
laundry in three sessions with as much
as a half hour gap between them.
The thing I was doing on my PC
was consolidating all my audio files
onto one external hard disk. I had
loads on my PC hard disk, and even more
on a couple of small USB external hard
disk. I realised when doing it that one
of those small hard disk had some old
BBC radio programmes I had recorded in
the days of BBC7 on DAB. Until
yesterday I was worried I had lost them.
There is all sorts of spoken word stuff
from serious stuff like Sherlock Holmes,
to comedy stuff like "It Sticks Out Half
A Mile" (Some of the cast of Dad's Army
set in the years after the war).
I only copied the files to the
new hard disk, and so I still have a
backup on the original disks, but I will
need to get another big hard disk to
make a backup copy of the new combined
files on the new hard disk. Then I could
potentially use the small hard disks for
something else. Doing the copy started
to get to be a long process towards the
end because I had to intervene when
duplicate files were detected - and
there were quite a lot of them.
The other bit of "manual labour"
was preparing and cooking my dinner.
Apart from a few nibbles on nuts, all I
had eaten prior to dinner was two cans
of soup. Both were relatively low in
sugar content, and I needed to continue
that after my terrible blood glucose
reading in the morning. My dinner was
basically a sort of chicken stew with
mushrooms and savoy cabbage swimming in
some thickened, and spiced, chicken
gravy.
I did seem to feel tired
yesterday. It could have been a known
side effect of my vaccination, but I
rather think it was getting up at 5am.
That was my standard time when I was at
work, and it meant I always tried to get
to sleep around 9pm. Last night was no
different. I think I did have at least
one short snooze during the day, but it,
or they didn't seem to impair me getting
to sleep quite close to 9pm.
I seemed to sleep well, but I
slept partly uncovered because my
bedroom was quite warm when I went to
bed, and perhaps more significantly I
was quite warm inside after my hot, and
spicy, dinner. As far as I am aware it
was just before 2am when I first woke
up. I felt a little cool, but not
uncomfortably so - or so I seemed to
think at the time. I needed a wee, and
went to the bathroom. It felt icy cold
in there, painfully cold, although I
didn't seem to shiver. I couldn't wait
until I had finished my wee, and got
back to bed.
I thought that maybe I had a
fever. It is one common side effect of
the vaccination, and is noted not to
last long. If it was a fever it lasted
all of 15 seconds. I checked my
temperature, and it was just 35.1° C - a
long way under a fever. I then checked
my radio linked outside thermometer, and
it was saying -2.5° C. It was cold in
the bathroom because it was bloody cold
outside....and it was getting colder,
-4° C this morning.
The early hours of this morning
were one of those strange times when I
started out thinking about the
temperature, both mine and outside, and
didn't seem to fall asleep for ages.
Evidently I did because it felt like I
had barely blinked while the clock had
advanced a couple of hours, and my
thoughts seemed to continue
uninterrupted. I think that happened
twice. By then I had possibly had a good
8 hours of sleep, and once again I
seemed ready to get up soon after 5am
again, but I think I managed to hang it
out until just gone 6am....or did I ? It
all seems very hazy now.
One very well known side effect
of the vaccination is a sort spot where
the needle went in. I didn't notice
anything when thrashing around in bed,
but I will admit that there is a very
vague hint of tenderness where the
needle went in. The other frequent side
effect is a sort of mild 'flu-like
feeling that could last a day (a bit
like my actual symptoms of Covid 19 a
year ago, although that probably lasted
3 or 4 days). At the moment I can't
decide if I feel worse than many
mornings or not. I certainly was stiff,
particularly my lower back, but I don't
think that is specifically a 'flu like
symptom.
Now I've been up for several
hours I feel much better, although I may
still feel a bit tired, but that could
just be impending boredom. The good news
in all this is that my blood glucose has
come down from silly to a fairly good
8.4mmol/l. I would be happy if I could
keep it that low for the rest of the
month, and get it lower still if March
turns out to be modestly warm, and not
too wet.
It may be sunny for a lot, or
quite a bit of today, but it is still
very cold, and I think I am bored with
relentless cold. It's fun when it is
just one rare frosty morning, but day
after day is too much. With that in
mind, I can't be bothered to go out
today. With warmer weather just around
the corner, albeit possibly wet weather,
I think I'll bide my time for a better
day to go out. That leaves me feeling
potentially bored today. I expect I'll
find something to do - even if it is
just hand washing my big bath towel. It
is probably due a wash. Other than that,
???????????
