The
latest revision to the forecast has
not changed much to that in the
screenshot above. One significant
change is that the sunshine for 9am
has changed to sunny spells. As I
write this the sky is widely covered
by thin-ish cloud, and the sun has
been behind a thicker piece of cloud
for some time now. If it manages to
find a way for it to come out again
then I guess "sunny spells" is
justified, but it feels a lot more
like "cloudy" at the moment. From
midday the sky will be overcast with
light cloud. The latest revision shows
no heavy cloud at 2pm, or sunny spells
at 5pm. The afternoon temperature
should rise to 7° C. It is not shown,
but tomorrow could start perilously
close to frosty ! The afternoon
temperture may briefly hit 7° C, but
6° C will probably be more
representative of the day. One single
sunny spell might happen at 10am, but
in general the first half of the day
will feature light coloured cloud, and
the second half, darker cloud.
Not including the weather,
yesterday was actually quite a good
day. It started when I did something I
didn't need to do, but I fancied doing
it anyway. I went for a short walk. I
didn't measure it, but I estimate it
would have been close enough to a
single mile that it could be called
one mile. I initially walked to the
cash machine by the small Sainsbury's
Local by Catford Station. After
extracting some cash I went and spent
a little of that cash in the little
supermarket on Catford Bridge.
I bought a selection of stuff
including some fruit (navel oranges)
and some stuff I probably shouldn't
have bought. One item that was not an
ideal purchase was some rye bread with
sunflower seeds. I usually avoid
buying bread because it can be
detrimental to my blood glucose level.
It does depend on the bread though.
Some white bread seems to be sweetened
with sugar for some reason. I don't
think the rye bread is sweetened, and
provided I use it in moderation it may
be OK. The small ring of Turkish bread
with sesame seeds definitely tasted
sweet. I think the sesame seeds were
probably stuck on using a sugar
solution. I didn't eat that in
moderation, and I am paying the price
this morning.
There were two things that
curiosity drove me to buy, but I have
to treat them like nitroglycerine !
They are almost pure sugar ! It was
two packs of "Turkish Delight". One
was "cherries and berries" flavour,
and the other may have been strawberry
flavour. I haven't opened either pack,
and I shall try not to until I have
been on at least a 5 mile walk on a
warm sunny day - so probably not any
time this month ! Even then I will
have to only eat a block or two a day.
When I first started
walking towards the cash machine I
felt really stiff and creaky, but with
hindsight I wonder if I felt worse
than at the start of most of my walks.
After getting my cash I then walked to
the mini supermarket, and as I got
close to it I could feel my legs
getting better. From the mini
supermarket to home my legs felt
fairly free, but by then I was
carrying quite a bit of shopping, and
with a warm coat on, I didn't enjoy
the walk because I felt too
encumbered.
After getting home I had a bit
to eat - bean salads - and then had a
rest. It may have been an hour later
that I started some laundry. It didn't
feel like it was a long time since I
last did some laundry but I was quite
surprised how much I had to do. I very
nearly did the job in two halves with
a break between them, but I did it all
in one go. I seemed to feel that I
couldn't wait to get back to something
else, and didn't have time to do that
laundry in one go, but that was
fantasy. I had nothing else to do, and
so no need to stop....although I was
intrigued to see what the two
envelopes contained that had arrived
in the post as I was doing the
laundry. (They were nothing to get
excited about !).
The final thing I had to do was
to tidy up the dining room, and
prepare it for a boozing session with
Jodie. She brought two cans of beer
with her, and although they were not
terribly exciting, they were not
horrible like some of the stuff she
has been bringing over. It was much
nicer when we got to some of the
strong (~8%) Belgium beers I had. They
were really good - very smooth, and
very potent.
At the end of the session my
will power was very low, and I ended
up eating the rest of the ring of
sesame bread (we had both had a nibble
or two of it while drinking). I had
it, with some cheese, as a sort of
dessert after my otherwise quite
healthy dinner of skinless chicken
thighs cooked in stock with mushrooms
and green vegetable. It has
unfortunately become standard practice
for Jodie to leave in time for the 7pm
train instead of the 6pm train as used
to be. That meant I had my dinner at
7pm.
It wasn't long after 8pm that I
decided to brush my teeth before
reading in bed for maybe half an hour
or more. In reality it was less. I am
still struggling to enjoy the book I
am reading, but it does seem to be
getting better now I have finished
many chapters that were sort of
background to what I hope will be the
main story. I didn't seem to have any
trouble getting to sleep after putting
the book down. I think I was asleep a
bit before 9pm.
I first woke up just before
11pm, and it was because I needed a
wee. My first thought when I saw the
time was that it was not yet closing
time (in the pubs that stick to the
traditional closing time of 11pm). I
know many people, in fact I think
almost everyone I know who would not
want to leave a pub until closing
time, but I was fast asleep in bed two
hours before closing time.
I woke a few more time in the
night, and I should be able to
remember some dream, but all I can
remember is what seemed like a long
dream set in a Business Village. It
was a bit like the first place I
worked for my last employer. It was an
old factory/warehouse divided into
individually rented rooms. I seemed to
be there being introduced to the place
as a potential new recruit, but
actually as a Job Centre mandated work
placement. Mostly I seemed to be just
following someone around who knew
quite a few people in there, and could
show me their workplaces. I do seem to
recall that no one was actually doing
any work despite seeming to be busy.
The second to last time I woke
up was because I had cramp in my right
leg. It was made more painful by
being, or seeming to be being tangled
up with the duvet. It was painful work
trying to get my leg free so I could
get out of bed. Once I was standing up
the pain just seemed to flow away in
seconds. Amazingly enough I got back
into bed and fell asleep again only 20
minutes away from when I might have
got up. I actually slept for an hour
and twenty minutes. Even with the
times I was awake I must have got a
lot more in total than my eight hours.
My biggest surprise on getting
up was how not big my blood glucose
was. It was 9.1mmol/l, and that is far
too high, but I was expecting
something over 10mmol/l after all I
ate and drank yesterday. I guess my
pancreas is still working OK, and my
insulin resistance is not too bad at
the moment. I hope that once we get
some warm, dry, and sunny weather, and
if I can start to do a lot more
walking,
and lose some more
belly fat, my insulin resistance
should improve. I should be far more
tolerant to the occasional excess of
sugar then. The only trouble with this
future fantasy is that I sometimes
wonder if I will ever enjoy, and be
able to do such walks again in the
future. On the cold and damp days it
seems improbably that I could survive
even a 3 mile walk, and yet the 6.8
mile walk I did in the warm sunshine
mid February says I am still capable
when the conditions are right.
Today I probably should force
myself top dress up in my winter gear
and go for a walk - even just a 3 mile
walk in the Linear Park - but I have a
good excuse not to. As far as I am
aware, because the tracking web site
seems a bit vague, I am waiting in for
my new beer supplies to be delivered
today. It seems that the many from
Yodel left the depot at about 10.30am.
I have no idea where I will be on his
round, and so I can't even begin to
guess when the delivery will happen.
All I really know is that Yodel have a
terrible reputation of ring and run,
or tossing delicate electronic
equipment over garden fences (sometime
in the wrong garden) as part of their
standard delivery routine. I really
need to keep a sharp lookout for a
delivery van, and try and rush to the
front door as soon as I see it. I dare
not even have a shower and wash my
hair until my beer is here !
