Having
had a look through the window I
expected the forecast to have changed
a fair bit, but with one small
difference it is essentially the same.
It was sunny earlier, but now the sky
looks cloudy enough to block even
brief sunny spells. That small change
is that 9am, or roughly speaking now,
is shown as just sunny spells. If all
the cloud I can see can disappear in
the next 13 minutes then maybe we will
have a sunny afternoon. With the
temperature rises to the predicted 13°
C it could feel very nice in strong
sunshine. I suspect the forecast for
tomorrow may turn out to be today's
reality. Sunny spells all day, and
once again the temperature briefly
rising to 13° C.
I thought that maybe I
might go for a walk in the sunshine
yesterday, but by the time I seemed
ready for it the sunshine had gone,
and it seemed like it would not be
back (a correct assumption). Instead
of going out I stayed in, and did very
little, apart for one thing that I did
a lot of. That was waiting. I did a
lot of waiting for a delivery from
Amazon. The lazy bastard of a delivery
driver did not leave to Dartford depot
until just after midday. Other
delivery companies manage to get their
drivers out by 8am, but not Amazon !
Once they notified me that my
package was out for delivery I kept
checking the estimated delivery time.
These estimated seem to be a
comparatively new thing. They are very
vague, and usually encompass a
delivery window of sometimes as much
as 3 hours wide. Gradually the
delivery window gets smaller, but it
also usually shifts to be later and
later. I was cursing the lazy bastard
of a driver because I had visions of
another post 9pm delivery - after my
bedtime ! To my great surprise it was
delivered at about 5.25pm, and the
driver was not the slow and
inefficient man who frequently does
Amazon deliveries, but a woman. She
seemed much more efficient.
Had it been sunny around, say,
11am I might still have gone for a
walk. I might still have gone for a
walk later than that, but ultimately I
was sort of glad I didn't. After three
consecutive boozing days it felt good
to rest my liver for a day. Of course
by about 3pm I was on high alert in
case my delivery arrived earlier than
anticipated. That really ruled out any
walk an hour or two earlier than that
because most of my walks tend to be at
least 90 minutes long, and 2 hours is
probably more like the average time.
My lunchtime "entertainment"
was a risky lunch/dinner. It was
probably more dinner than lunch. It
was a tin of haggis that I thought it
was high time I used. It's best before
date was some time in the past, and
the chances of botulism seemed fairly
high ! Upon opening it there was a
slightly unpleasant smell. It reminded
me more of catfood than decay. Once
microwaved for a bit more than the
recommended time it smelled a lot
better, and it tasted nice, or sort of
nice. I expect it would have tasted
nice with the traditional
accompaniment of potatoes, but
definitely not mashed swedes (yuck !).
On it's own it was a bit fatty, but
apart from the occasional burp later
in the day it didn't seem to have any
negative effects.
My dinner was more like lunch -
cans of soup. I had a can of chicken
and mushroom with thyme (and another
herb or something). I though the thyme
spoiled the flavour, and made for a
good excuse to have another can of
plain mushroom soup. Apart from a
chunk of cheese a bit later, I didn't
eat any more for the rest of the day.
After doing a lot of intensive resting
during the day, I didn't feel any urge
to get to bed early, and I would still
have been up if my package had been
delivered at 9pm.
I guess I was asleep sometime
after 10pm, but I didn't seem to sleep
very well for half the night. I seemed
to keep waking up more frequently than
usual. Usually it is to go for a wee,
and usually I have a medium sized wee.
Last night I presumed I was waking up
for a wee, but the results when I went
to the toilet didn't seem to justify
it. I am not sure why I kept waking up
so frequently. There seemed no need
for it at least 50% of the time. It
was sometime between 3am and 4am,
possibly nearer 3am, that I finally
fell into a very deep sleep. It had
been my intention to get up at 6am,
but it just after 7am.
That didn't give me much time
to get ready to go shopping in Aldi at
8am. I first did my usual, health
checks. My blood glucose is the
important one, and I was pleased to
see it had gone down a little. It had
dropped from 8.8mmol/l to 8.5mmol/l.
In the unlikely event it keeps
dropping like this it would not be
long before I am back on target, but
that seems unlikely after a shopping
day. The rest of my body seemed to
have anticipated the weather being a
bit warmer and dryer, and most of me
seemed to working fairly well.
This morning, unlike most other
days of the week, I was able to give
my legs a fair test as I walked to and
from Aldi. I could feel some mild
creakiness as I walked there, but it
felt basically OK. Coming back with
some heavy shopping put extra load on
my body, but it still seemed to be OK.
I was having stupidly optimistic
thoughts about how a walk in the park,
and maybe further could actually feel
nice in bright sunshine. It is a shame
that the highly optimistic weather
forecast still seems to be failing to
match reality.
In the age that time forgot
there was a shouty man who kept going
on about turkey twizzlers being served
for school dinners, and all the news
media would not stop going on about
it. This annoyed me, but not as much
as not knowing what a turkey twizzler
was. I had never had any at school,
and I was insanely jealous because
they sounded sort of nice. This
morning, for the first time in my
life, I saw turkey twizzlers on sale
in Aldi. Naturally I had to buy a
pack. They look like they have the
potentially to be very good, or very
bad. Being made from turkey they could
be terrible, but maybe the sausage
flavour will help. A little earlier,
just before I started to write, I was
informed that the recipe has changed
to be more healthy. I presume that
have taken out the ground up beaks and
legs, and so they will have even less
flavour, and turkey is seriously taste
challenged to start with !
I noticed these bars of
chocolate in Aldi this morning. They
still have to regarded with extreme
suspicion, particularly the milk
chocolate. The figures given in the
nutritional information is for two
squares -
two squares, who
ever manages to eat just
two
squares of chocolate ! As is the
case for most (but not all) dark
chocolate, the sugar content is a lot
less than milk chocolate. Less than
0.5gm looks to be quite low, for
two
squares, but look at the energy
content derived from all that fat and
saturates. It is lucky I am only an
occasional chocolate eater because
even if I do fail, I should treat
these with great respect !
The sun has finally come out
again, and I really should try for at
least a 3 mile walk. It is a shame
that spending a few hours in front of
my PC has caused my legs to seize up.
I will soon be taking some paracetamol
to reduce the initial pain of getting
my legs working again. It is a shame I
need to go out before the air has
fully warmed up, but once again I am
expecting a parcel delivery from
Amazon. It is more beer for Thursday's
boozing session ! My beer has been at
the Dartford, final delivery depot,
for 6 and a half hours now. I can
imagine it arrives there presorted for
specific delivery rounds, and I see no
reason why it could not have been in a
van an hour or two ago, and almost
here by now, but I doubt it will be
leaving the depot for another 90 to
120 minutes.
