Today
could well be wet, but so far all I
have seen is a few spots of rain on
the pavement. There seems to be an
agreement between the Met Office and
the BBC that this afternoon could get
very wet. It would seem that it is
also going to be quite a cool day once
that rain starts pouring down. The
latest revision to the forecast
remains adamant that between 1pm and
2pm the temperature will drop from 11°
C to 8° C. The temperature could be
down to a very chilly 3° C by 6am
tomorrow, but a sunny morning should
warm things up to 11° C again.
Tomorrow afternoon is currently
predicted to be cloudy with no sign of
the sun. We shall have to wait until
next Tuesday to see that in abundance
- maybe !
All the productive things I did
yesterday was packed into the first
few hours of the morning, before I
started writing this blog/diary. I
wrote all about it yesterday. After I
finished writing I did very little
apart from setting up the dining room
table for the traditional Thursday
afternoon boozing session. I probably
passed a lot of the time reading, and
I think I had a snooze, but it all
seems a blur now.
Curiously enough, the
afternoon, although it featured lots
of booze, is less of a blur because
definite things happened, Beer bottles
and cans were opened and drunk for one
thing ! Annoying Jodie by telling her
phone to do a software update was
another thing. She had been unable to
do it because her phone was totally
clogged with pictures and videos. Once
again I guided her through the process
of moving a lot of pictures to an
external USB memory stick. Ideally she
needs a new uSD memory card in the
phone because the 32GB in it is also
completely full.
We got through quite a few
beers yesterday, and one of them was
extra strong - 12% !! A few of the
others were a bit strong, but I guess
the average was around 5%. Of course
that is still quite strong compared to
usual pub beer. Jodie got so engrossed
with her phone, as she often does, but
yesterday seemed worse, that I ended
up opening two bottles of beers that
Jodie didn't try - mainly because she
was not interested in them.
With the added wait for Jodie's
phone to finish updating it ended up
as a very long session, and I don't
think that Jodie left until 7.30pm to
get the next Hayes train at 7.48pm. As
soon as she left I tucked into my
dinner - some well cooked sausages,
and a mix of mange tout and fine green
beans. I had precooked both earlier in
the day, and they just needed warming
up. I had what should have been a safe
dessert of sugar free vanilla wafers.
It wasn't all that long after
eating dinner that I went to bed. I
felt a bit drunk, and I felt a bit
full. As I lay in bed trying to get to
sleep it felt like I had indigestion -
acid indigestion. One burp brought an
acid taste up, and I had to get up
again to take some antacid tablets. It
was fortunate that I had bought extra
antacid tablets when I was in
Poundland in the morning. I did wonder
if I was going to vomit, but
fortunately not.
I eventually got to sleep, but
I didn't seem to sleep very well. My
dreams seemed to feature travelling on
trains. Two brief instants seem to
have stuck in my mind. The first was
moving through a train, looking for a
good seat while carrying a blue
plastic covered clipboard with some
papers on it. I also seemed to be
wearing a white shirt, and possibly a
tie. I was on a train from somewhere
on the coast heading towards London,
and I suddenly remembered that I had
forgotten to buy a ticket. At one
point I came across the guard, and I
expected to be challenged to show my
ticket like everyone else had to do.
He took one look at my white short,
and clipboard, and assumed I was
staff, and didn't need a ticket. Phew
!
The other bit of dream was
standing at the front of the leading
coach. There was a window there, and
because the loco that hauled the train
was very low it was possible to see
over it, and see where we were going.
The view out of the front of a train
is always fascinating, but it is
extremely rare to see it in real life.
Only some of the small diesel trains,
almost based on bus chassis (and some
were actually bus chassis), that used
to run on some rural line well away
from London, had windows at the front
that you could see out of provided the
driver didn't pull down the blinds
behind him.
This morning, predictably
enough, I have a hangover. Once again
it is not a painful one, but I still
feel "foggy", and have no desire to do
much of anything today. Unfortunately
there is one thing I have to do, and
that is to fast for as long as I can.
This morning my blood glucose is
appallingly high, and into the danger
zone. Ideally I should run up a
mountain or two as well as fast, but
the weather is not good even for a
walk in the park. It means that
fasting is even more important today
if I am going to end up having a
sedate day. I can't, or won't even do
any gardening in the rain !
