The
screenshot of the early morning
version of the forecast starts all
wrong. The latest revision to the
forecast shows some hastily scribbled
in sunny spells for now and 9am. Even
that doesn't seem quite right. Over
half the sky still looks blue, but
that is less than it was at 8am when
it seemed like almost all the sky was
blue. I don't think the sun has gone
behind a cloud in the last 90 or more
minutes. It seems good enough to say
it is "sunny" now, but as I say, more
clouds are gathering, and the latest
forecast revision may be right when it
says the rest of the day will be
cloudy and dull. Once again it may be
no more than 11° C today. Tomorrow is
probably going to be almost identical
to today except for some light rain
from 6pm for a couple of hours.
I thought it worth
showing the BBC (Meteogroup) forecast
because it is far more optimistic than
the Met Office's gloomy forecast. It
does seem to have got it right so far,
and it would be great if it was
correct for the rest of the day, but I
have my doubts. I stopped showing it,
and switched to The Met Office a year
or two ago when the BBC switched to
using the services of Meteogroup, and
usually go the forecast totally wrong.
It is hard to believe their forecast
for today, and for that matter the
next week, but it would be very nice
if it were correct.
Yesterday morning feels like a
blur, and I am struggling to remember
if I did anything of importance then,
or indeed right up to the boozing
started at almost 4pm. .....
wait....it's coming, thoughts are
breaking through the fog..... Of
course I did stuff yesterday morning !
I started by clearing the dining room
table of the computer stuff I had been
setting up the day before yesterday,
and then I washed the "wipe clean" PVC
tablecloth.
I didn't stop there. I got out
the hoover and hoovered the dining
room, the front room and also the
hall. It was the dining room that
needed hoovering most of all, and for
one specific reason. I also cut up a
couple of boxes to put them in the
recycling bin, and that always
produces little wisps of cardboard
that needed hoovering up. There was
stuff there from a week or two ago as
well as from earlier in the morning.
Once the hoovering was done,
and the tablecloth dried, I set up my
laptop as the music player for the
boozing session. Much earlier in the
morning, after I had my morning
shower, I put some laundry in to soak.
The idea was to finish that sometime
in the morning, and get it on the line
to dry, or maybe to partly dry. I
don't think yesterday was a good day
for drying clothes, but that is a mute
point because that laundry is still
waiting for me to finish it this
morning !
I the afternoon Jodie brought
two large cans (440ml) of beer with
her, and for once they weren't too
horrible. In fact one was almost nice.
It was only let down by the lingering
bitter taste it left.
We drank the beer on the right
first. It was a cloudy beer (as can be
seen in the glass behind the cans). I
can't say I enjoyed it, but it was
far, far better than some of the beers
Jodie likes these days. The beer on
the left was much nicer, and if it
wasn't for a very bitter after taste
it might have been quite nice, and not
that dissimilar to a good English ale.
We finished off most, but not
all of my fruit beers yesterday. The
first thing you need to know here is
that Framboise is the Flemish
(Belgium) name for raspberries. The
Floris framboise was lovely. It was
really fruity, slightly tart, and a
pleasure to drink. It's one downfall
was it seemed to have a fairly high
sugar content. The Boon framboise was
not so nice. It seemed to have a hint
of soapiness about it, but maybe only
for the first few mouthfuls. I expect
that if I had been drinking whole
bottles I may have started to like it
a lot when halfway through the second
bottle.
I think we had two more fruit
beers, and they were pleasantly
average. I managed to get Jodie on her
way to get the 6.48pm train - a whole
10 minutes earlier than the usual
train she gets. Once she was on her
way I finished cooking my dinner. That
took a good 40 minutes, and a full
hour might have been better. It was
pork belly strips, and another 20
minutes in the oven would have got the
fat nice and crisp. I was too hungry
to wait that extra 10 minutes. I had
some leek and pak choi stewed in
chicken stock with the meat.
One thing about yesterday was
that I no longer seemed to feel sleepy
all day like I had for the previous
days. I think that sleepiness started
after my 2nd covid vaccination, and so
it seems likely it was a side effect.
Jodie said that she too felt sleepy
for a week after her second jab. The
end result was that I felt in no rush
to get to bed yesterday. However,
after reading in bed for over an hour
I did start to feel really tired. That
could have been as late as 11pm.
I put the book down, and turned
out the light. I expected to fall
asleep instantly, but it wasn't
instant, although I think it was
fairly quick. It was another of those
occasions, maybe frequent occasions
now, when I lay in bed thinking I was
not going to be able to fall asleep,
and then the next thing I knew was
that I was waking up for a pee. After
drinking the beer earlier, even if it
only added up to 3 pints, and possibly
just 2.5 pints, it would be surprising
of I hadn't woken up for a pee a few
times in the night.
I evidently slept well because
I woke up near 5am, and because it was
light outside, I was almost going to
get up. In the end I stayed in bed,
and slept a little more because I
wanted rather than appeared to need
doing so. I know I had some good
dreams during the night, but I can
only remember enough of the most
important bit to write about the
nightmare that it was ! I was back
working in a telephone exchange, but
it was not one I had ever been in
before. The nightmare bit was
discovering that the disruption of
moving to another exchange had meant
that I had missed a very important
thing. The leave year had ended, and I
hadn't used all my annual leave (which
couldn't be carried over to the next
year). I had thrown away 5 days of
annual leave without realising it. Sob
!
This morning I was not
surprised that my blood glucose was up
high again (9.1mmol/l). The pile of
fish fingers I had for lunch (to line
my stomach before boozing) may have
contributed a little bit of blame. One
or more of the beers definitely had
sugar in it. I was eating some of the
sugar free, and no added sugar,
biscuits a little too freely, and I
have always suspected leeks of having
a high sugar content. I guess I'm more
surprised that it wasn't higher, but
it means I have to take extra care
today.
More of the sky is looking a
pale milky white, but there is still a
lot of blue sky, and the sun continues
to shine. I almost wonder of the BBC
weather forecast is going to be right
today. In which case there are things
I should do today. The first thing is
to get the laundry, that has been
soaking for 24 hours now, finished and
hanging on the line. Then I ought to
consider going for a walk. I do feel a
bit ambivalent a walk though. I'd like
to take a wander through the park, and
see how the river is doing, but I keep
thinking it will be too hard. I guess
it all depends on what the weather is
like at the time. If it seems good
enough for no coat it may inspire me
more.
