Lockdown day 420 456

07:48 BST

Summer returned for a one day hoorah yesterday. It was almost sunny all day, and while it was only 21° C it felt nice and warm in that sunshine.
half summer, and half not
Another very chilly morning today ! I describe today as half summer, and half not. It is bright sunshine now, but there are clouds in the sky that will end up giving us just sunny spells for most of this morning, and now, according to the latest revision to the forecast, maybe a couple of sunny spells in the early afternoon. After that it is back to a boring white sky. I expect today's 21° C will not feel as nice as yesterday's sunny 21° C. Tomorrow sees the seasons jump to something like mid autumn - grey skies and rain, but the temperature may still make 19° C.

Yesterday was both good and bad. The bad was that the highlight of the day, a drink with Angela at lunchtime didn't happen. I sent her a text as I was approaching the pub, and she replied that she couldn't come because of a stinking cold. She said she was at work, and so I suggested that maybe she would like to sit in the warm sunshine in the park, but she declined that as well. It did cross my mind that maybe she was using a cold as an excuse because she didn't want to see me, but probably not.

The other bad thing is that I didn't record my walk. I didn't go straight towards the pub, but walked via Ladywell. After I heard that Angela would not be joining me I walked on past the pub, and down the hight street. I had a second objective that ended up as my prime objective - to go into the Tesco Express store to check out their ready made salads. Their selection was sparse in the extreme, but one thing they did have was Greek salads.  They seemed a poor comparison to Sainbury's version, but I bought two of them.

I also bought a bangers and mash ready meal that was half price. (The manager of the Tesco Express is not a tightwad like the manager of the main Catford Tesco store - he would have just knocked off something like 10p). I also bought a 70cl bottle of my favourite whisky - Tesco Special Reserve. By the time I had walked home I think, based upon past experience of the route I took, I would have walked 1.5 miles. That is not that far, but far enough to be called exercise.

When I got home I tucked into one of the Greek salads. It was sort of mediocre. If that had been my introduction to Greek salads I would have passed them by after that, but fortunately my introduction was of the Sainsbury's version that I used to buy on my way to work from the store around the corner from Earlsfield station. They seemed very nice and I got through many of them in my last year or two of work. After eating my Tesco Greek salad I laid down on my bed to read and snooze for half an hour or so.

After my snooze I realised that time was wasting, and I had laundry soaking that needed finishing. It was the towel and pair of shorts that came out smelling musty when I washed them the previous day. This time I used a nicer detergent, and added some Vanish stain remover. At the end of the wash it seemed that I had washed the musty smell out (that came from the towel), and I hung both items in the hot sunshine to dry. By early evening they were dry, and smelling nice and fresh.

My dinner seemed a bit reckless last night. It was going to be a liver, bacon and mash ready meal followed (or preceded) by a simple salad, but I ditched the salad and ate the Tesco bangers and mash ready meal for the second course. Both ready meals were not very wonderful, and the sausages in the bangers and mash were almost horrible. Neither dish lends it's self to storage and microwave heating, but it seemed sort of convenient, and with my limited cooking facilities it was about the only way of having liver and bacon.

It was still nice and warm when I went to bed, but it got colder and colder through the night. Initially I slept uncovered. A few hours later I covered myself up with the unfilled duvet cover. Last night it would have been good to actually have the duvet cover with the duvet in it. A few hours later I woke up and turned the heater on low. At about 4am, just as it was starting to get light, I turned the heater on full. It was nice and warm when I got up at around 6am !

It was with some trepidation that I checked my blood glucose this morning. It had been high for the last few days, and I expected those two ready meals would send it higher still, but I was wrong ! This morning my blood glucose had dropped to just 8.3mmol/l. That is higher than the 7.5mmol/l maximum I aim for, but it is not too bad. Maybe just a 1.5 mile walk is more beneficial that it would seem to be.

Today there is one definite and one probable things I will do. There is a slight amount of doubt because either it is vicious hay fever, or I have picked up a cold from somewhere. My nose is almost dripping, and I keep sneezing - which probably makes it hay fever. If it all stops soon I intend to go to Poundstretcher to get some bird feed, and one of those wire tube things to put peanuts in. This afternoon is Thursday boozing time with Jodie (and possibly Michael as well, but I doubt it).
