This
morning's forecast for today doesn't
look as good as the predictions made
yesterday. Originally the afternoon
was going to be sunny, but now it
looks like even sunny spells will be
in very short supply this afternoon.
The forecast is right so far - we are
having long sunny spells at the
moment, but there are banks of white
fluffy clouds to be seen in the sky.
It looks like it should be dry today,
and the afternoon temperature will be
a mildly warm 21° C. The very latest
revision that I have just seen shows
sunny spells for a lot of the
afternoon again. Maybe today will be
better than the early forecast
suggested. Let's hope that tomorrow
will improve. The current prediction
is for light rain for over half the
day tomorrow. The last rains of the
day could be quite heavy.
The hay fever that
afflicted me the day before yesterday
had died down well before the day was
over, and I didn't really notice any
problems yesterday (or this morning).
Yesterday's main affliction was the
after effects of my guts exploding the
night before. My gut felt tender until
gone lunchtime, and possibly later.
Some of the empty feeling was helped
by the bacon that I reported I had for
breakfast yesterday morning. At
lunchtime I had a couple of cans of
soup, and they probably helped to make
my gut feel better.
The rotten weather yesterday
morning meant I only had one plan for
the day, and that plan was starting to
look foolish for a while. I wanted to
wash a small bath towel, and a hand
towel, and I wanted to hang them in
the sunshine to dry. There was still
one shower at 2pm shown in the
forecast, but I decided to ignore
that, and fortunately it ignored me.
It was soon after midday that I hand
washed those towel, and hung them on
the line to dry.
At first it was a bit dull, and
they seemed to hardly dry. Then a
light breeze sprung up - just enough
to make them jiggle a bit on the line,
and they probably dried a bit faster.
I think it was about 4pm when I
brought them in. They were warm and
dry after we had a good hour of long
sunny spells. My gamble of hanging
them on the line paid off in full !
The rest of yesterday was one
of those days where I was mildly
active, but still doing nothing of any
great import. I suppose that is not
fully true because there was one
sort
of important thing I did. I got
out my tallest tripod, and set one of
my trail cameras looking at the bird
table, and feeders, in the hope of
some nice pictures of, ideally, small
birds.
Unfortunately I put the trail
camera too close to the bird table.
The bottom of the hanging feeders
could not be seen in the pictures (or
video), and the heads of any pigeon
was off the top of the picture if they
stood fully upright. I missed a good
(as in good visuals) pigeon
fight/disagreement because of that.
This was the best picture of a
pigeon I got, and it is far from
spectacular. I did manage to capture
the shadow of what I think was a blue
tit, but a shadow doesn't make a very
useful picture. Early in the evening I
changed the memory card in the trail
camera, and moved the tripod back. I
hope the camera is now capturing a
bigger view of the bird table and
feeders. I was curious to see if the
table or feeders got any nocturnal
visitors. This morning I am very
curious as to what the camera managed
to capture because one side of the
table has partly fallen away as if
something heavy landed on it. Once I
am dressed for the great outdoors I'll
check the camera.
I filled in all the gaps in the
day by one of three activities -
reading, snoozing, and also I did a
bit more CD ripping to my new laptop
down on the dining room. Inevitably my
thoughts turned to food as dinner time
approached. There were a few things I
could had prepared for dinner, but for
some stupid reason I got it into my
mind that I fancied some Thai food.
That meant putting my hand in my
pocket (so to speak) and paying for a
takeaway.
I checked a few places. One
place looked interesting, but only
scored 3 out of 5 on "scores on the
doors" by the food standards agency.
Another was waiting assessment, but
then I noticed one scored the full 5
out of 5. Not only a high score but
the online menu gave a good
description of each dish, and included
what some of the ingredients were. One
family of dishes specifically
mentioned sugar as an ingredient, and
I stayed clear of them.
The delivery time was quite
good, maybe around 20 minutes, and it
seemed I had made some good choices -
just don't ask me to remember the
names of anything I ordered ! Perhaps
on of the most notable things was
"Summer Rolls". They were inspired by
Chinese spring rolls, but rather
different. For instance, instead of
being fried they were wrapped in soft
rice paper, and most of the
ingredients, except for a few little
chunks of chicken, were raw. I suspect
they were very healthy, as in low
sugar and low calorie. Nothing I had
seemed to contain any sugar as far as
my taste buds could tell.
My TV viewing started at
dinnertime, and was what is now the
usual of Space:1999, and Star Trek:
Voyager. Neither really grabbed my
attention that much. If I remember
correctly, when Space:1999 was first
shown I thought the concept was very
good, but by the second series it just
got silly, and I lost interest. Last
nights, and indeed most episodes I've
seen lately just feel rather silly
now. What was less silly, and was very
interesting viewing, was a documentary
about The Sex Pistols, and the making
of their infamous album, "Never Mind
The Bollocks".
I thought I was going to write
a lot about my dreams this morning,
but now I sit hear behind the keyboard
I realise I have just about forgotten
all my dreams. All I can remember is
that they seemed only what I can call
"friendly" - as in non threatening, or
possibly a bit bland. Maybe it all
means that I slept well last night. I
can remember getting up for a wee more
than once, but even those memories are
sort of blurry. The first strong
memory is of waking up at 4am. It was
light outside, and it felt like I
should get up, but I fought that idea
and eventually fell asleep again until
almost 7am.
I do feel what I can only
describe as less bad this morning. In
other words nothing seems to be
creaking and uncomfortable this
morning. I think it is a sign of a
little bit of better weather.
Yesterday morning my blood glucose was
a rather high 9.0mmol/l. Before dinner
last night it had dropped to
nice 6.7mmol/l. I guess there was
probably a little bit of sugar in my
Thai dinner last night because this
morning it is up to 8.5mmol/l. That is
still a bit too high, but it's not
too
bad.
There are a few things today
that I might, or might not do.
Repairing the bird table, and checking
the trail camera that should have seen
it break is one definite thing. I
think I'll be taking a chance on the
weather, and washing a rather heavy
duvet cover. It is made of quite thick
cotton, and is going to be bloody
heavy, and rather difficult to wring
out by hand. It really will need to be
hung on the line to drip dry. That
duvet cover will probably wear me out,
and the chance of going for a nice
healthy walk through the park seems
unlikely today, but still possible.
More likely, although still far from
definite, is a quick visit to
Poundland for a few items.
