I'm trying to think if I did
anything of note yesterday, apart
from going to Aldi in the
morning. I think the answer
is mostly no, but somehow I don't
seem to recall feeling bored...or
not that much. One nthing I did do
I must have done on autopilot, and
that was to be very careful about
what I ate. That was partly aided
by not buying anything from Aldi
that I know to be bad for me.
One task I did doesn't feel
like it provided much distraction
from the world, but it probably
did. It was to check the memory
cards from the two trail cameras I
have pointing at my bird
table...although at this point I
am wondering if I did check both
of them. I can't recall any
pictures from the first trail
camera I put out. The second
didn't capture much that was
exciting, but I liked this
picture.
Until I replaced the simple
hooks that support the hanging
feeders the crows quickly learned
that they could unhook the
feeders, let them drop to the
ground, and then fly down to eat
any spillage. Originally I just
hung the feeders from long screws.
You can still see one on the right
of the bird table. I replaced them
with rings, and used dog clips to
hang the feeders. The crows can
now no longer unhook them. In this
picture it almost looks like they
are cross because their trick has
been thwarted.
In between reading, and the
occasional short snooze, I did
more CD ripping using my new
laptop. Some of the CDs I have
ripped before, but often at a
lower bit rate, and hence lower
quality. It wasn't how I started,
but I think it now my intention to
rip all of my CDs, and not just
some of the slightly more obscure
ones on the shelf (or one of
several shelves). I could, and
might, box at least some of the
less liked (or hated) CDs, and
hide them away to leave more room
on the shelves for books. If I
ever get an actual CD player again
I could get the CDs out, but
playing them, as mp3 files, on my
computer is far more convenient.
I don't think I mentioned
it yesterday, but I did have a
breakfast yesterday morning. It
was some cod in breadcrumbs I had
bought from Aldi - mostly because
it was near it's sell by date, and
30% off. It made for a nice
breakfast - filling, but not
bloating. I think it was what made
me eat very little (but by no
means nothing) until dinner time.
I had a very specific dinner in
mind. It was grilled salmon on a
thick bed of rocket and other
salad leaves with some tomatoes.
One thing I meant to do
before eating dinner was to check
my blood glucose. I had a feeling
it would have dropped a fair bit
from the 9.5mmol/l I measure in
the morning. Unfortunately I
forgot to check it before dinner,
but I did it straight afterwards.
That is not a good time to take it
because I could have been
measuring a quick spike from any
sugar in my dinner. There could
have also been, and I am sure
there was, an effect that isn't
supposed to exist. That being a
dip in the blood glucose as
digestion starts to take place.
That is the only explanation of
why the measurement was a very
nice 6.4mmol/l. I was sure it was
a fluke, but I still rewarded
myself with a tub of low(er)
calorie ice cream.
Despite it being a grey
day, it was very mild yesterday,
and that extended into the
evening. I didn't need to put on
any heating during the evening,
and into the night. I felt
perfectly comfortable when I went
to sleep without even the empty
duvet cover on me. Of course it
didn't last, and sometime around
2am I pulled the duvet cover over
me. I think it was a little after
4am when I decided to turn the
heater on low, but that was mainly
to get my bedroom comfortable when
getting up.
I don't remember much about
my sleep. I know I got up 3 or 4
times to pee, but only by rather
hazy memories. I know I had a
selection of dreams, but I can't
remember anything about them
except for one, and then only the
last few seconds of the dream.
Those few seconds concerned being
in a hotel, or something like
that, and I wanted to go to the
toilet. I looked into one toilet
and there was no toilet paper in
it. I checked the toilet next door
to it, and once again I thought
there was no toilet paper until I
noticed a new roll tucked under
the hand washbasin. As I bent over
to pick it up I felt a nasty pain
in my leg.
I woke up at that point to
find my right leg was cramping
painfully. I haven't had cramp
like that in ages. I don't think
anyone knows what really causes
cramp. Sometimes too much, or too
little salt is suggested as a
possibility. I feel sure that what
I ate yesterday was no different
to any other day with regard to
salt consumption. One other oddity
was that I found my muscles in my
left forearm seemed to be cramping
as well. It was mild compared to
leg cramps, and the pain was
almost completely over before I
could really realise it for what
it probably was.
I really enjoyed the ice
cream I had for dessert last
night, but it left it's mark. My
blood glucose was down to
9.1mmol/l this morning. At least
it is heading in the right
direction still, but it is still
far too high. My guess is could
have been under 9, and maybe even
8.5mmol/l if I hadn't enjoyed that
ice cream last night. I didn't
notice it so much when I first got
up, but while washing my hair, and
having a shower, I felt quite
stiff and creaky. If I go out
today I feel it would be good to
take a couple of Paracetamol
beforehand.
I doubt I will go out
today. For one thing I am
expecting a delivery of yet more
beer. It is from The Bier Company,
the same company who made me (and
apparently many others) wait for
ages for ages before they finally
dispatched my beers. I really
shouldn't have given them my
custom again, but I did. This time
they did send an email where they
blamed Yodel for not sending a big
enough van last Friday, and said
the beers would be picked up the
next day - they weren't, but they
were picked up last night, and
Yodel have just messaged me to say
they are one their way. Their
tracking web site says I am drop
number 17, and so they could be
here in an hour or two.
