Yesterday's great achievement was
a second shopping trip to
Poundstretcher. I bought the solar
powered spot lamps I was
interested in, plus a few other
things. My legs felt a bit stiff
as I started walking there, but
they seemed to loosen up fairly
quickly. It soon felt to be quite
good, and I could almost have been
tempted to walk a lot further.
Maybe it was because I had my
proper walking boots on, and I was
wearing them with new socks. The
socks were just cheapo black
trainer socks from Poundland (6
pairs for £2), but they seemed to
be very comfortable.
I noted that Iceland was
being refitted while out
yesterday. First it was Bejam, and
then Iceland, and now it will be
Iceland mk2 (or 3, or 4, of
however many times it has been
refreshed/refurbished). The place
was certainly due a refurbishment.
It was looking very grubby and
down market recently.
Another thing I spotted,
and bought yesterday, was a packet
of Vesta Paella. I haven't had one
of these for years and years.
These Vesta meals are both good
and bad - sort of tasty, and very
unauthentic. I only stopped to
look at it because it stood out
from other stuff around it in
Poundstretcher. That made me
examine it a bit closer. My first
thoughts were that it would have a
high sugar content, and a high
calorie content. The calorie
content is moderately high, but
the sugar content is not too bad,
although all the rice will turn to
sugar when digested. I still
thought it was worth grabbing a
pack, and someday in the not too
distant future I will have it for
dinner.
When I got home with my
shopping I put away stuff that
needed to be put away, and then I
removed tags and stuff, and set up
the three solar power spot lamps.
I then "planted them" in the
garden. I also put out some of the
new bird feed I had bought. That
included dried silk worms. I guess
they are a by-product of silk
harvesting. The birds seem to like
them. With the lamp set, and the
birds fed, I did very little else
for the rest of the day.
The "little else" was
things like occasionally going
down stairs where I am slowly
re-ripping my CD collection to mp3
files. In some cases it is
actually ripping them for the
first time. I think I had a
snoozed or two, and I read some of
the current book I am reading
("Earth" by Ben Bova). Later on I
entertained myself by watching
another three episodes of Blake's
7. As I said yesterday, some
episodes are good, and some bad,
but none seem to be as exciting as
an episode after having to wait a
whole week for a brand new episode
on TV.
I'm trying to think if I
ate anything particularly bad
during the day, yesterday. I don't
think I did, but by dinnertime I
thought that maybe I had eaten a
too much during the day. I opted
to have a very light dinner. It
was to be a ham salad, and in a
way it was, but it had no green
leaves in it. When I rummaged
through the fridge I found one
unopened, and three opened bags of
assorted salad leaves. The
unopened one was looking nasty and
limp, and the other bags were in a
very sad condition indeed ! I had
my salad, and without a pile of
assorted leaves it looked very
small.
My sleep was good and bad
last night. It was good in as much
as I didn't get that horrible
itchiness feeling on the sole of
my right foot. It was bad
because....actually I am not sure
why I think it was bad. I just get
the idea I didn't sleep well, but
I can't remember why because I was
mostly asleep. About the only sort
of bad thing I can think of was,
like many nights recently, I
decided to turn the heater on
during the night because I was
feeling too cool (but not exactly
cold). In fact, a few hours later
I was feeling a bit too warm.
I had some interesting
dreams. At least they seemed
interesting at the time, but all
but a part of a dream has now
faded away. The bit of dream I
remember sounds very feasible, but
I am sure it has never happened
before (or anything like it). I
think it was set in my mums old
garden, and featured a wooden
clothes horse - which she did
have. I was hanging a few shirts
on the clothes horse. Half had
been pre-dried in front of an
electric heater, and the other
half in front of a gas heater.
Those dried electrically were far
drier than those dried in front of
a gas fire. I would imagine that
in the real world it would be hard
to tell the difference, but in the
dream world the water given off by
the burning gas served to keep the
shirts damper.
This morning my blood
glucose has dropped a little to
8.3mmol/l. That is getting nearer
to where I would like it to be,
and so is good. I feel moderately
OK this morning, and that too is
good. For some reason I changed my
usual morning routine this
morning. I got dressed enough to
go outside and fed the birds
before I did anything else. I also
disposed of the rotten, and nasty
smelling salad leaves into the
garden waste bin. I also emptied
the kitchen waste bin. It should
smell a bit sweeter in the kitchen
this afternoon.
It was only then that I
went to the toilet, and took my
morning medication. There then
followed stuff that kept me away
from writing all this until a lot
later than I could have. The first
distraction was looking for
photographs I had taken of Carrie
Mae (singer and now small time TV
host) because it is her birthday
today. I think I found a few she
may never had seen before. After
that I was distracted by two
rambling phone calls from Lee !
It seems Lee has revised
his fantasy of having a band play
at a garden party he is
organising. He thinks that of he
can hire Chain it will immediately
give him the credibility he so
lacks. He intends to invite many
of the Bromley musicians, but I
feel sure that most won't go
because his reputation is in the
dumps because of his failure to
repair so much he said he could
repair. To be honest, even I don't
want to go his party. Two days ago
he was complaining he was broke,
and so I don't know where he will
get the money to pay Chain for a
gig (probably £200 to £300 at a
guess). I have doubts they will
want to do it.
Today's big entertainment
(sort of) is another Sunday
afternoon beer drinking session
with Jodie. Other than that,
nothing much is happening. I did
have thoughts of going to
Poundland, but there is nothing
there I am desperate for. I think
I will just quietly read for a
while next, and maybe even have a
snooze if I feel one coming on.
Sooner or later I must have a
shower and get properly dressed !
