I was
unable to do the thing I most
wanted to do yesterday, and that
was to meet Angela for a quick
lunchtime drink. I don't know if
she was available or not, but I
wasn't...or at least I didn't
think I would be, and for a time
it almost looked like it might
pour with rain when I would have
gone out.
The first thing of
importance that kept me sort of
busy in the morning was the
delivery of my order from Star
Bargains. I have already written
about this yesterday morning. One
thing I can add is that I dared to
have one of the four bottles of
Fanta "no added sugar" grape
juice. It was strange stuff, and I
have doubts there was much, if
indeed any real grape juice in it.
It wasn't nice, and yet it wasn't
horrible. I think that being old
stock, sold off cheap (although
still before it's best before
date) it has lost some of it's
fizz. The taste reminded me of
some types of bubble gum we used
to get in the 1960s.
I did do one useful thing
yesterday. It was some more
washing. I left it a bit late
before I did it, and probably
missed the best time to dry it on
the line. As usual I could have
kept my nerve and left it on the
line longer, but I brought it in
when only about 95% dry. I didn't
start doing it until about 2pm (or
was it 1pm ?) when I finally got a
more useful prediction of when my
parcel from Amazon would arrive.
This was what all the fuss
was about - Mack Swedish Whisky.
Without realising it was
happening, I seem to have a new
hobby - collecting, and tasting
whiskies. I can't say I feel
tempted to spend large amounts of
money on the hobby, but I guess
everyone says that. This Swedish
whisky was almost £30, and for now
that probably is my upper spending
limit, but I can foresee spending
more some day if I see something
that breaks my self control. The
only safeguard is that on the
whole I prefer blended whiskies,
and in many cases actually dislike
sing malt whiskies. I also dislike
anything described as very peaty.
That seems to translate into
"tastes like burning tyres" far
too often !
The next big event was
dinner time. It was to be a two
part dinner. The first part was to
be a simple salad. That didn't
work out well because the tomatoes
I was using were rotten. A few had
green spots on them. I cut those
bits off, and washed them well,
but they all still tasted tainted,
and I three them away. Fortunately
I had other tomatoes, and I had
those with part two - spicy
Sicilian sausages from the
Beckenham sausage shop.
I didn't like the
Cumberland sausages from that shop
that I had the day before
yesterday. I didn't like the
sausages I had last night. They
weren't as bad as the Cumberland
sausages that had a very strong
meat taste (yesterday I said it
tasted like the pork was going
off). Last night's sausages were
not bad in that respect. If
anything they tasted rather
blander than expected. Maybe I
might try some other from the
(Award winning !) shop in
Beckenham Village, but mostly I
think I'll stick to supermarket
sausages.
Last night was one of those
nights when I found it difficult
to get to sleep, and then seemed
to sleep well...maybe not very
well though. I only have vague
memories of waking up a few times
during the night, but I do
remember seeming to dream a lot.
The only difficulty is that I can
only remember those dreams as like
snapshots that are meaningless
without any context. Maybe it
seems I had a lot of dreams
because each only lasted for one
second. That sounds unlikely, but
anything is possible when it comes
to dreams.
The good news this morning
is that despite leaving the golden
path a few times, I didn't
completely cock up my blood
glucose yesterday. Yesterday
morning it was a very nice
7.8mmol/l. This morning it has
gone up, but only to 8.2mmol/l. It
could be part of a brief rising
trend because today is another
boozing Thursday. They rarely end
well ! Fortunately I will be doing
some light exercise in the form of
a bit more hand laundry. Today
includes a hand towel so a bit
more effort will be needed. I have
already showered, and I put that
laundry into soak as soon as I had
finished showering. I hope to have
it on the line well before midday
today.
