There is
probably going to be more sunshine
today than yesterday, and yet it could
be a degree cooler - just 27° C. The
latest revision to the forecast says
that there could be light rain from
6pm (although the BBC says there won't
be). Tomorrow is going to start quite
fresh, like today did, but it is
predicted that it won't warm up as
fast as it is this morning, and that
the afternoon temperature may be just
22° C despite a fair amount of
sunshine and sunny spells.
I left home a bit late
yesterday to do a long walk, but I
really wasn't intending to walk too
far anyway. I ended up just taking the
scenic route to the Jolly Farmers in
the hope of having a drink with
Angela. Luckily enough that did
happen, and Angela seemed quite
enthusiastic about it too !
I may have misheard one of the
first things Angela said. It sounded
like she said that lover boy had been
diagnosed with Covid-19, and was
having to self isolate. I did wonder
if she meant that was a past event, or
a current event, but other clues
suggested it was a current event. The
first was when she told me she had
been tested, and that she was clear,
and I had no need to worry.
A second clue that it was
current was that she had a message
come through while we were drinking,
and it seems she will be having a
girls night, or weekend, with her
daughter. I'm sure it would be normal
to be worried about a loved one with
Covid, but Angela seemed to be in a
really happy mood.
One of the things she
mentioned, with no prompting, was that
she still wants to prepare a proper
Greek salad (or at least a salad to
her Greek families recipe) for me. She
was thinking aloud about how to sort
it all out, and she suggested the best
idea would be to drop it in to me on
her way to work on a Tuesday morning.
That is perfect for me, but I did
advise her to give me a ring first so
I could make sure I had some trousers
on for when I had to answer the door !
No specific Tuesday has been
predicted, but it could potentially be
next Tuesday. Angela also repeated
something she said some weeks back,
and that was that she would still like
to cook me another roast dinner. That
is something that is not really
possible while lover boy is around. I
still wonder about their relationship.
It so often feels like it is a matter
of convenience for her to have a
chauffeur, and a sort of husband, but
that she would really like a lover,
and someone she could let her hair
down with.
We just had two drinks in the
pub before we left. Normally I would
walk Angela back to work, but
yesterday I wasn't sure if I would be.
Before going in the pub I noticed that
the shop next door, a Rumanian run
place, had some booze in the front
window. When we left the pub I said
hold on a minute because I just want
to look in the window again.
I specifically wanted to see if
the Alexandrion, picture left, was a
spirit or liqueur. I had told Angela
that if it was just a spirit I would
probably pop in and buy it. Having
seen it described as a spirit I was
about to say goodbye to Angela, and go
inside the shop, but she actually went
in first. I think she was curious as
to what else they had in there.
Once in there I was shown that
they had litre bottles as well as 70cl
bottles, I bought a 70cl bottle
because I didn't even know if I would
like it. I also found they do at least
one Rumanian beer in there, and I will
probably be back there to buy some
beer sometime in the not too distant
future.
I then walked Angela back to
work. It was a fairly slow stroll.
Angela had no real desire to even go
back to work, but the call of duty
overrode that. I did contemplate a
slightly longer walk back home, but I
chose the most direct route through
the park. As soon as I got home I
tasted a half shot glass full of
Alexandrion. It was quite pleasant,
but it was very sweet, and I fear I
will have to drink it in very moderate
quantities.
As usual I took a camera, just
my pocked sized Canon iXus 285, along
with me when walking to the pub.
I wasn't really expecting to take any
pictures, but as I passed by some
uncut grass, alongside the unnamed
park near Ladywell, I couldn't help
but think just how similar grass is to
wheat.
The road is called Slagrove
Place, and I have only walked down it
a few times in the past, and always on
the other side of the road. It was a
surprise to see a big old tree
blocking the footpath on this side of
the road !
While walking through Ladywell
Village I kept an eye out to see if I
could see the shop where Jodie bought
some Asian beers last week (or Sunday
?). I thought it would probably be
this place, named The Larder, but I am
sure the till roll she showed me had
something like John Dan on it. Maybe
it was here. I am seeing Jodie today,
and perhaps she can identify it from
this picture, and or maybe better
indicate where it was.
It was very bright yesterday,
but still my camera didn't
automatically select a fast enough
shutter speed to get a nice sharp
picture of this butterfly. To make
matters worse it looks slightly over
exposed. Oh well, at least it is
recognisable as a butterfly, but I
wonder what species it is ?
My blood glucose was not
terribly high yesterday morning, but I
still almost fasted until dinner time.
Maybe "almost" is too strong a word
because I did have a very light
breakfast of a handful of salted
peanuts, and after getting home from
my two pints of Guinness with Angela,
I couldn't resist scoffing a 5 pack of
hot Pepperami. Nevertheless, when I
checked my blood glucose just before
dinner it was even lower than the day
before. It was a very satisfactory
6.6mmol/l.
My dinner was relatively safe.
I started with am Aldi "peppery salad"
with added tomatoes from another ready
made salad that was a bit past it's
best (the green leaves were wilting,
but the tomatoes were fine). I
followed that up with a couple of
"melt in the middle" haddock fish
cakes. The fish cakes were a
disappointment - not unpleasant, but
almost bland. I don't think I ate
anything more after that.
Last night started off hot and
sticky again, but it did cool down
during the night. It was probably
around 3am when I turned the fan off
because I was actually feeling chilly.
I guess it was another night when it
sometimes seemed like I was awake a
lot, and yet 2 or 3 hours would seem
to pass like a blink of the eye. It
felt like I could have slept a lot
longer if I tried this morning, but
with the dustmen clattering away, and
their cart roaring around, sleep was
not an easy option for a while.
Despite it not being hot and
sweaty in the later hours of the
night, I suspect I may still have got
a bit dehydrated during the night. The
clue, if indeed it is a clue, is that
my blood glucose was not as low as
expected. Despite starting off lower
than the previous night, it was a bit
higher this morning. 8.6mmol/l is not
terrible, but it doesn't leave much
room for going off the golden path -
which is almost assured today !
There are three things on the
agenda for today, and two of them are
almost certain, one slightly less so.
I have several sweat drenched
t-shirts, plus some other items I want
to hand wash this morning so they can
dry in the sunshine. I will probably
go to Poundstretcher today (I meant to
go yesterday, or even the day before)
to buy some bird food. If I had time,
which I don't think I will have, I
would have liked to go to the park to
see if I could see Mouse and her dog
Freija, but time seems to be running
away fast today. This afternoon, being
a Thursday, is drinking with Jodie
(and hopefully Michael too - it is his
birthday today).
