The latest
revision of the forecast doesn't
really look any different to the
screenshot above. Even the BBC web
site forecast agrees that today is
going to get very wet, but their
prediction has the rain staring later
at about 2pm. Curiosly enough, the
chance of rain from 11am to 2pm is
only shown as 50%. That means that
there is a fair chance it won't rain,
but the 70 and 80% chance from 3pm to
5pm suggests it definitely will. There
is still room for doubt though, and
maybe it will not be heavy rain
(although it probably will be). With a
top temperature of just 17° C it is
going to feel rather autumnal. Apart
from a couple of hours in the morning,
when there could be sunny spells, most
of tomorrow will range between dull
and very dull. There is thought to be
a 50% chance of rain for 4pm, but the
day will be a couple of degrees warmer
than today.
Yesterday was a very
mixed up day. Despite the sunny spells
in the morning I just couldn't seem to
find any get up and go. I had ideas
that I might go for a walk in the
park, or to spend a couple of hours in
the garden, but I had no enthusiasm
for it. I started to realise there was
a paradox here. Mostly last year, but
also some of earlier this year, when
lockdown, and all it's constraints
were at their tightest, I seemed to be
out more than ever. Now I can use
trains, and even most buses, plus
there are no barriers to shopping, I
seem to be staying in more and more !
It was almost as if I was going
to do nothing yesterday, but I ended
up doing more housework than usual
(although not as much as I should).
The first thing was to do quite a
heavy load of washing by hand. It
included a big bath towel, and a pair
of shorts, plus a few smaller items. I
managed to get it all on the line by
midday, and apart from the towel, that
had a few small damp patches, it was
all dry when I brought it in at 6pm
last night.
The other bit of housework I
did was a bit of a rarity, or overdue.
It was to get the hoover out. I
hoovered the living room, the dining
room, the front hall, and the stairs.
I even took the hoover upstairs so I
could do the landing, the spare room,
and any bits of my bedroom floor I can
get to - even more if I dumped all my
camera stuff on my bed instead of on
the floor.
I did have one other
achievement yesterday. I managed to
fast after my breakfast right through
to 6pm and dinnertime. Just before
dinner time I checked my blood
glucose. It had fallen from 7.7mmol/l
to 7.3mmol/l. I had hoped for more -
particularly when I had some strong
doubts about my choice of dinner. It
was Tesco southern fried chicken
(cooked in the oven). It was nice, but
nicer with some salt on. Later I would
realise it had more black pepper in it
than the taste would suggest.
Unfortunately I suspect it had a lot
of sugar in it.
I carefully checked every
channel I can get on my Freeview TV
last night. I have never bothered to
count how many channels that it, but
it is a lot, and not a single one of
them was showing anything that grabbed
my attention. I spent the evening with
a a few cans of lager, and three
episodes of series three of Blake's
Severn. That kept me going until I
felt sleepy enough to head to bed
around 9pm.
I assume it was the black
pepper used in the "southern fried"
seasoning of the chicken, but it could
have been the added sugar, or even the
lager I was drinking, but an hour or
two after eating I came out in a
fierce sweat, and I was feeling very
hot when I went to bed. I was too hot
to pull the duvet over me, and I ended
up sleeping like that for most, or
maybe even all the night. It seemed to
be a warm night, or at least a bit
warmer than the previous few nights.
Maybe it was the thick blanket of
clouds, although having said that, as
I write these words there is some hazy
sunshine.
It was a big disappointment
that this morning my blood glucose was
up to 8.6mmol/l. After fasting right
through the middle of yesterday I was
hoping for something under 8. I don't
think I can blame the lager, although
that may have made a contribution to
it, but I feel the blame lies squarely
on the southern fried chicken. It is
one of those cases of "hidden sugar" -
sugar where you don't expect it. Oh
well, lesson learned - avoid Tesco
southern fried chicken in future.
Today I feel "edgy". It is hard
to define that. I feel physically
OK-ish, or similar to most days now.
The edginess is all in my head. It is
partly a tug of war between part of my
mind that wants to be active, to go
out, or do stuff, and the other part
that says why bother ? More than
anything else it is the calm before
the storm - a literal storm if the
weather forecast is correct. It seems
that going out could be a very wet
experience. Maybe that is a good
excuse to get on with doing stuff
indoors.
I still have a lot of work to
do cataloguing all my train photos,
but I am starting to wish I hadn't
started the project because since
expanding it to all types of trains it
seems like a job that will never end.
Oh well, if I can get ready to go out
before the rain starts, I might still
stretch my legs as far as Poundland. I
am also thinking I would like to go to
Lidl again. Like Aldi, I almost
stopped using them when they replaced
most of their checkouts with self
service tills, and I hate those. Maybe
Monday morning might be a better time
for Lidl, but it is only curiosity,
and so can wait for a good time if
such actually exists.
