After the coppery colour sunrise yesterday, it was indeed "shepherds warning" according to weather lore. By 10am it was piddling down, and it was well into 11am when it stopped. I think there was a much lighter shower towards the end of the afternoon. Surprisingly enough, there was also some pleasant sunshine for a few hours in the afternoon. It was still a cool day with the maximum being in the region of 15° C.
another dull and bland day
The latest revision to the forecast has cancelled the rain for 1pm, and added sunny spells for 5 and 6pm. The rest of the day is probably going to be rather dull and bland. At least the temperature may rise to 16° C this afternoon. Tomorrow may make 17° C, but it is likely to be another very dull day with a 40% chance of rain at 6pm, and then from 9pm onwards.
coppery sunrise

I should have showed this picture yesterday. It is of the very coppery coloured (to my eye, but maybe not to the camera) sunrise. As I mentioned at the top of the page, this "red sky in the morning" did indeed turn out to be "shepherds warning", but the "warning" was really only for about an hour and a bit from 10am to 11am when there was quite a bit of rain. Anyway, here's another video of MT Pockets at The Swan on Friday night.

Like the video I showed yesterday, I managed to get the title wrong on this one too. It is not "Sharp Dressed Man", but "Gimme All Your Lovin'".

I guess I spent much of yesterday just getting myself mentally prepared to go out into the dark night for another gig last night. As such I did very little, but I did go to Tesco where I bought 8 cans of low sugar soup, and some other bits and pieces that included some new underpants. It was slightly crowded in Tesco, but it wasn't an unpleasant experience.

One of the surprising things when I got home was comparing the pre and post Brexit prices. I have to admit I can't remember how long the pack of underpants on the left has been gathering dust, and I don't really know why I have yet to open that packet. I guess my current in use underpants are still in good condition, but sometimes I fancy a change. The real significance of this picture is to show that the old pack was just £8, but now the price has shot up to £11. I think I will try and make these underpants last !
nutritional information

I'm sure I have mentioned it before, but I don't think I have ever offered proof of it. Well on the left is a picture of the nutritional information for Tesco own brand Cream Of Chicken soup. Having looked at cans of soup the world over (where the world = a few shops in Catford) I feel confident to say that this soup has the least amount of sugar of any other soup. That includes Heinz "reduced" sugar soups which actually have quite high amount of sugar in them. It doesn't matter to most people, but when you are type 2 diabetic you have to be very aware of things like this.

One thing I tried to do yesterday, and tried several times, was to have a snooze, but on each occasion nothing happened. I thought that a bit surprising after getting a very late night on Friday night, and not even having a lay in yesterday morning. Maybe I was just too on edge thinking about the main event of the day. It was to go out again well after dark to another gig. This gig was a bit different because it was also a birthday party for a chap called Lee Bates who fronts the band Strange Fashion. He has wanted me to go along to his gigs to get some decent photographs, and this seemed like an excellent time.

At this point in time I am not sure I did take a good set of photos, but I did end up taking a ridiculous 240 snaps, and so there will hopefully be a few good ones in there somewhere. The photo above doesn't look too bad after it has been "processed", but the original looked rather dull because I was keeping the flash power down in the hope of not annoying people. There were very few people there, but while that was bad for Lee, it was good for me because it made it easier for me to move around with my camera.

I think the people who were there were friends, but there was an open invitation for almost anyone on the Bromley music scene to go along, but there were two other big gigs last night, and people from Bromley are scared of leaving it. They think Catford is a violent place, except most murders and muggings happen in Bromley ! The gig was also billed as an open mic event, but as far as I am aware there were no takers.

One attendee was Angela. The original idea was that she and Miranda, her daughter, would go there for a girls night out, and Miranda would probably sing a few songs. With the sad rift between mum and daughter at the moment that didn't happen. Angela still came, but in the company of lover boy. We still managed a few private words between us, and even a light hug when lover boy went to the bar. One snatched bit of conversation was about next Wednesday. We will probably be meeting at lunchtime.

I stayed at the gig/birthday party for a good few hours, and probably longer than I expected. I think it was about 10.30pm when I left to walk home. I had walked there, and estimated that it was about a mile. When I left I turned my tracker on, and it said it was a 1.2 mile walk. I did that twice, there and back, and so my total walk would have been 2.4 miles. I think that is long enough to be classified as exercise ! As is typical, walking there seemed a bit like hard work, but walking home felt OK.

I think it was probably some time in the afternoon that I decided I definitely wasn't going to be lured into the fried chicken shop last night - even though it would have been so nice. I had actually eaten quite lightly during the day, although maybe the big plate of grilled bacon I had for breakfast would not be considered "light" by many. I think I had a snack or two, but the last thing I ate was a can of leek and potato soup at about 5pm. It was indeed the last thing because I went to bed hungry last night.

I'm sure I was asleep my midnight last night. I was actually in bed 10 to 20 minutes earlier than that, and I read for a while before turning out the light. On the whole I slept quite well, and even the 4 pints of Guinness I drank earlier didn't wake me up that often. By 3am I was feeling rather hungry, and a bit cool unless I made sure I was well covered by the duvet, but then I felt too warm. I turned the heater on low, and after some time I was feeling more comfortable, and oddly enough, less hungry.

It would probably have been more sensible to not get up until, say, 9am after my late night, but like yesterday I seemed to get up at around 7am again. I was very curious about my blood glucose this morning, and almost thrilled to see it was just 7.0mmol/l. That is under my personal target, and actually a very healthy level. It was also good for getting the average down a bit. The running average for this month is currently 8.6mmol/l after a bad start to the month. My aim is to get it down to 8.4 or less.

There are several things I might be doing today. One of them I have already started. It is to apply hand cream to my hands. They seem to be getting rather chapped on these cold days. Another thing that is also a definite is to go through all the pictures I took last night, and see if I can select maybe a dozen of the very best of them. Another thing is currently an unknown. Being a Sunday I would normally get a visit from Jodie for a beer drinking session. I think she said she had a gig tonight and wouldn't be coming here today. That would sort of suit me. It would give me a bit more time for those photographs, and possibly time to do a few other things.
