This morning's
early version of the forecast
underestimated the amount of sunshine we
seem to be getting. The clear, or clearish
skies meant the temperature was only 5° C
by my reckoning at 7am. It may only reach
13° C at best today. The latest revision
to the forecast tells the bad news that we
are due to lose the sunshine after 1pm,
and the rest of this afternoon may be
quite dull. Tomorrow may have a few hours
of sunny spells in the morning, but more
cloud will blot the sun out later.
I spent a bit of time
yesterday morning doing a bit of
housework, but I can't say I busted a gut
doing it. I merely did enough to make it
look like the place was a bit clean and
tidy provided you didn't look too closely
in the corners ! I usually do some
selected housework on a Thursday prior to
a drinking session. Yesterday there was a
very tiny, but finite chance that Angela
might drop by, but of course she didn't.
There could have been 5 of us if
Angela had visited. There could have been
4 of us if Mark had decided to stay, but I
think he wanted to get away from Jodie.
From her slight change of attitude, I am
guessing that Mark had given her a stiff
lecture about her clutter filled flat, and
her chronic hoarding of stuff. It sounds
like she now admits there is a problem,
and is at least considering taking some
steps to try and reduce it. Whether she
will or not remains to be seen.
In the end it was just three of us
- myself, Jodie and Michael - around the
table, drinking beers. We had some very
nice, and fairly strong Belgium beers
yesterday. It was probably not the right
thing to do, but I was drinking on an
almost empty stomach. I had had a couple
of fish burgers (big square fish fingers)
for breakfast, but nothing after. I think
I was a lot drunker than I realised at the
end.
The strange thing is that I still
kept to my diet plan. After my high blood
glucose reading in the morning I wanted to
try and get it down. My dinner consisted
of nothing more than soup. I can't
remember if I had two cans or three, but I
have a feeling it might have just been two
cans. I am very certain that the last can
was lentil soup, and I added a couple of
chunks of cheese to it so I could see what
it was like. As far as I can recall it was
OK, but ultimately a waste of cheese.
After that things get very hazy. I
feel sure that I was in bed early, and
that I quickly fell asleep, but I have no
idea when that was. What I do know is that
I woke up just before midnight thinking I
had overslept because it was still dark
outside. This was complete nonsense for
the simple reason that I wanted to get up
before dawn this morning. However I still
seemed to act like I had had loads of
sleep, and because of that it took 2 or 3
hours before I got back to sleep again.
When I woke up just after 6am I
knew I had to get up even though I felt
terrible. I still felt very tired, and I
was suffering from a hangover. Not exactly
a painful hangover, but nonetheless a
hangover. I also had very bad guts. It was
another of those morning when I think back
to how little I thought I had eaten, and
so how come there could be so much to
excrete. I went to the toilet about 4
times in the next 90 minutes before I set
off to get my Covid booster jab.
In the middle of all the doom and
gloom there was the good news that my
blood glucose had gone down as intended,
and somehow despite the beer. This morning
it was a rather wonderful 6.9mmol/l. That
was the lowest this month. Taking a shower
this morning was not quite good news. With
the outside temperature just 5° C, and the
bathroom window open, it was a bit chilly
in the bathroom. Fortunately the water was
nice and hot.
Sunrise was at 7.53am this morning,
and I took the picture above at 7.51am
while walking through the park. The sun
was rising on a fairly clear sky, and that
clear sky was why we came very close to a
frost this morning. I guess it was sort of
nice walking through the park at this time
of the morning. It would probably have
been more exciting if it were still dark,
but then I wouldn't have seen all the
squirrels I saw. I suspect they are all
having an afternoon nap, and most are not
visible when I typically go through the
park in the middle of the day, but I must
have counted at least 8 by the time I
crossed the bridge into the hospital.
I arrived at the vaccination centre
in the hospital a minute or two after 8am,
and there were just 3 people ahead of me.
The first nurse I saw asked if the full 6
months had passed since my last
vaccination. I said yes
minus 10 minutes
! That raised a small laugh. There was
than at least a 15 minute wait before the
process of getting my jab started. That
process included a series of questions to
answer about this that and the other.
While I was waiting, and being questioned
I noticed more and more nurses were still
coming in. People arriving later probably
had shorter waiting times.
This morning was all about waiting.
Having had my jab I asked if I could have
a sticker, and explained that when I had
the two jabs last spring I hadn't been
able to get a sticker. The nurse who was
doing the jab said I could take two !
There then followed a mandatory 15 minute
wait - presumably to see if I keeled over
and died. I decided to time this using the
stopwatch function on my phone so I
wouldn't have to wait a second longer
before heading home. As I left I showed
the reception nurse the stopwatch, and
apologised that I was going to be leaving
6 seconds early !
There had been a couple of time
since leaving for the hospital, and while
I was there, that I felt some mild
discomfort from my gut, and it spurred me
on to do a fairly fast walk home - just in
case. Of course it was typical that
absolutely nothing happened when I got
home. The only discomfort from my gut was
a rumble of hunger. The first thing I did
was to cook some sausages. I thought I
deserved a small treat after getting my
blood glucose down so low.
After eating my breakfast I wanted
to lie down and have a snooze while the
sun was shining through the windows. I lay
on my bed for a good few hours, but I
think I got very little sleep. In fact I
didn't really realise I had got any sleep
until I realised I had had a dream about
my phone ringing. It must have been a
dream because when I checked my phone
there was no missed call on it.
I still feel far from dynamic even
now, and I am thinking along the lines of
an afternoon snooze now. About the only
thing I can imagine doing today is looking
at three items that Mark brought over from
Jodie's parent house. There are two old PC
that need the hard disks cleaned or maybe
even destroyed before getting rid of the
PCs. One of the PCs doesn't look that old,
and I may consider renovating it for no
better reason than I can, but I think the
other is probably just junk.
The third item is an electric
heater that seems dead as a doorstop
despite being relatively new looking. I
will attempt to diagnose what is wrong
with it. "It could be just the fuse", but
I am wary about that. If the fuse is blown
there must be a reason for it. I think my
suspicion falls on a built in time switch,
not for blowing the fuse, but for it's
contacts failing to close properly. Other
than that I think I am going to practice
being very lazy for the rest of the day.
There is one other thing I might do
though, and it is to order a takeaway for
dinner tonight. I would really love
something like a Chinese, but I ought to
go for shish kebabs for the sake of my
blood glucose level (just grilled meat and
salad is actually very low sugar, and
fairly low calories too).
