The latest
revision to the forecast has made one big
change to the earlier version shown in the
screenshot above. The dark cloud for 11am
has been replaced by sunny spells, and
moved to 10am. I wouldn't be surprised if
there are more changes, but this is all we
have to go on for now. This afternoon
should be sunny, and approaching warm at
17° C again. Tomorrow could be similar,
but maybe a degree or two cooler.
Apart from washing a hand towel,
and some underwear, and having to dry it
indoors, nothing much happened until just
after midday. That is when I went out to
do some trainspotting. As I mentioned
yesterday I was hoping to photograph, and
ride on on of Southeastern Trains "new"
"City Beam" class 707 trains. The ones
handed down from South West Trains because
they didn't like/want them. I succeeded !
I was crossing my fingers that a
pattern would repeat. When walking through
the park last Wednesday I had seen one of
the class 707 trains heading for Catford
Bridge, and a quick check on the National
Rail app on my phone said it was going to
stop there. Yesterday I was hoping that
the 12:48 to Hayes (Kent) would be a "City
Beam" train as well. It was, although it
was nearly 8 minutes late.
The class 707 train is based on the
exact same chassis as the class 700 trains
Thameslink have been running for the last
3 or 4 (or more years) - even down to the
same passenger informations screen (and
probably the same software running them).
The one big difference is that the class
707 trains have no toilets, and a small
difference is a slightly different seating
layout.
This is a view through the train.
It is completely open from end to end of a
5 car unit (currently being run as 2 x 5
car units to give a 10 car train). The row
of single seats, as seen in the picture,
is to give extra space for wheelchair
users, and is marked with an orange bar on
the side of the carriage that has this
feature.
This is the other end of the train,
and it has it's own numbers because the
train is 5 + 5 cars to form a 10 car train
(very generous in the extreme for the
middle of the day, but great for rush hour
travel). I had got on the train and
travelled to Hayes, before walking to the
front of the train so I could leap out
when it got back to Catford Bridge, and
get a snap of the front.
While coming back from Hayes I
noted another class 707 train approaching
Hayes. Being a terminus it had nowhere to
go except back through Catford Bridge. It
was something like a half hour wait,
during which I snapped a few other trains,
before it arrived at Catford Bridge. I did
manage to take a picture of the front, but
it was still travelling too fast to stop
the picture being really blurry. Although
I only got photographic evidence of 3
class 707 train units, I can claim I have
seen 4 of them now.
I had only been out for two hours
or so, but I was quite happy to get home
again. The increasing amount of dark
looking clouds was reason enough, although
my walk home was in sunshine, and I was
feeling very warm when I got indoors. I
was also feeling strangely tired. I had a
couple of bowls of instant noodles, and
then selected and edited my photos. I was
quite surprised to see it was just about
4pm by then.
I lay on my bed, and started to
read. I barely read more than 2 pages
before I had a nice snooze. It did feel
strange that I felt so tired considering
how little I had done. I could understand
it if I had been out walking for 2 hours,
but while I was on my feet for much of the
time, I was sitting down for the 20
minutes or so it takes between Catford
Bridge and Hayes (and the same coming back
to Catford Bridge again).
By the time I woke up it was almost
time to start thinking about dinner. As
well as the noodles I had eaten for lunch,
I had also eaten a fair bit of junk food,
and I had got into a "who cares" sort of
mood. In that mood I had grilled bacon and
(alleged) no added sugar baked beans. I
added a good splurge of Carolina Reaper,
extra hot chilli sauce to the beans. They
still didn't seem to be very hot, but they
were jolly nice. The effect would happen
later.
It was possibly nearly 2 hours
later, while watching TV that the chilli
hit me. I burst into sweat, and it was
like my face was on fire. In a curious way
it wasn't unpleasant, but the timing was
very awkward. I immediately turned the
heating off to help me cool down. An hour
later, and still feeling a bit sticky, I
went to bed. I think I managed to fall
into a light sleep, but I was feeling
uncomfortable, and my legs felt far too
hot under the duvet. By contrast my belly
was feeling cold to the touch.
The only solution was to turn the
heater on again, and leave my legs
uncovered, and try and cover some of my
belly with the duvet. It seemed to take
ages before things equalised, and I was
possibly falling in and out of a light
sleep until almost 3am. I slept better
after that, but on the whole I think I got
a very poor sleep. On the other hand, now
I've been up for a while I don't seem to
feel tired.
I couldn't believe it when I
checked my blood glucose this morning. I
don't know whether it is some highly
unlikely side effect of my Pfizer Covid
booster shot, or what I have been eating
recently (which should be the wrong
things), but this morning my blood glucose
was just 7.0mmol/l, and my running average
for the month is now below the best for
the year. At this rate I'll be eating
chocolate - not that I am a great lover of
chocolate, but a bit can be a treat.
All my plans for today are in
disarray. Yesterday I was notified that
the "Beer Advent Calendar" I had ordered
from The Bier Company had shipped, and
that delivery was due today. It is being
delivered by Yodel, and as yet I have no
idea when it might arrive. Until I have
some more definite information I dare not
go out at lunchtime to hopefully meet
Angela. Maybe I'll get an estimated time
of delivery at the last minute, and it
might be OK to go out. Later this
afternoon Jodie is coming over for a quick
drink because she is off to a gig this
evening. It would be convenient if the
beer arrived while she was here so I could
tease her with it, and tell her it is too
early to open it !
