This morning is
most definitely wet and soggy ! The worst
of the rain should ease off after 9am, but
occasional showers might now continue
until midday. Maybe the last couple of
hours of daylight will be bright and
sunny, or as sunny as it can be with the
sun hovering over, or below the local
roofline. Most of the afternoon may be
just 14° C, but it could be 15° C just
before midday. Tomorrow may well end up
just like today, but maybe a degree
cooler.
Yesterday was one of those odd
days. It started quite well. As I
suggested I would do yesterday, I went
shopping in Tesco. That felt like a nice
brisk walk in sunshine both there and
back, but soon after I got home the sky
went very dark, and that seemed to drain
all my energy and enthusiasm away. From
that point on I seemed to do nothing that
didn't involve a book or my PC.
While in Tesco I mainly
concentrated on some essentials like soup
(8 cans) and cheese (3 varieties), but I
did buy a few dubious things like tuna and
sweetcorn, and chicken and bacon, sandwich
filler gloop. I had an insane idea that
they might go well on some oatcakes that I
had bought as part of my Star Bargains
order that arrived on Monday. Basically
they didn't, and even cheese on those
oatcakes didn't excite. I am thinking that
the only thing that is going to go well on
those oatcakes is Marmite, and I forgot to
look for a new jar when in Tesco (but I do
have some left in a jar here).
I did have a moment of madness
yesterday when I had a look at what other
beer suppliers might be doing in the way
of beer advent calendars. Advent means
nothing to me, but boxes of mystery beers
can provide pleasant surprises - or at
least I hope they do. I found two other
companies selling Advent Calendar boxes of
beer, and they seemed cheaper than those
already ordered.
The most expensive was the order
with Ghost Whale (yes, that is the name of
the company !) that Jodie and I went
halves on. She reckons that will have some
really exotic beers in it. That is being
despatched on 23rd November if I recall
correctly. The box of beers from The Bier
Company are already here, and I have no
idea what is in it. That was the second
most expensive, but it does contain more
than just beers. It has nuts and socks as
part of the package. Yesterday I ordered
beer advent calendars from Beerwulf, and
Beer 52. It seems that my order with
Beerwulf is going to be delivered today -
possibly less than 24 hours after ordering
it !
I wasn't expecting to spend so much
time on it, but I seemed to spend quite a
few hours on my train cataloguing project
yesterday. I have made the project more
time consuming by including a link to a
high(ish) resolution picture of each train
that appears in the list. I will have to
go back to earlier entries at some time to
include the links, but at least I have
managed a smooth process to add the links
to the spreadsheet now. My only worry is
whether the one other person who may see
the spreadsheet will be able to view it
properly on his PC. It is quite likely he
could still be running Windows XP, and an
old copy of Office 2003. He might find he
will have to download
Libre
Office and install it (it is free).
I ate a selection of junk through
the day, mostly using oatcakes as a base,
but I was trying to bide my time until I
could eat the other half of the Chinese
Takeaway I ordered the night before. I
couldn't really remember what it was, but
at dinner time I found it was possibly all
the worst bits for me. There was special
fried rice. I only ate/had room for half
of that, and when it stops raining I'll
put the rest out for the birds. There was
a dish that had prawns and other stuff in
a thick, and maybe sweet tasting "gravy".
I can't recall what that was, but it was
nice.
Finally there was a Singapore
fried noodles (I think). That was an awful
lot of noodles compressed into a
"standard" size container with assorted
meats in it. That should have been quite
spicy, but I added some hot chilli sauce
to make it medium hot. It was quite a big
dinner, and I knew my blood glucose was
probably going to suffer a lot after all
that...at least I thought it would.
I thought I was ready for bed at
9pm last night, but my brain seemed to
have other ideas. I think I finally
managed to convince it to go to sleep by,
or maybe soon after 10pm. I think I slept
mostly OK, but for some annoying reason I
couldn't seem to get back to sleep after
6am. I fought it, but after maybe 20
minutes I gave up, and slowly started to
get up. It wasn't long before I could
confirm it was raining outside because my
knees felt really stiff (they seem mostly
OK a couple of hours later).
As I knew it would be, my blood
glucose had gone up again, but it was only
to 8.8mmol/l ! I was expecting much more.
It slightly raised my monthly running
average to 8.41, and now it is equal to my
best month. If I am "good" I still have
two days to get the average down a little.
Of course having two bowls of instant
noodles for breakfast, as I have just
done, is not doing myself any favours !
Today has started as a disgusting
grey and wet day, and that means I have no
interest in the outside world - except for
three little things. I could be expecting
up to three deliveries today. Two of them
are from Amazon, and although from
different orders, they will probably come
together, and probably late afternoon to
mid evening. The other, the beer delivery,
could arrive around lunchtime like the
last delivery that came via Yodel.
Apart from having my ear glued to
the front doorbell, I guess I'll be
passing a lot of time today on my train
cataloguing project, but I may find other
things to do. There is a fantastically
small chance that I could go to a gig at
The Black Cat tonight, but if I do go it
may be only for long enough to take some
pictures. The band, The Pinheads, are, if
I recall correctly, an old style rock and
roll band, and I am not keen/slightly
repulsed by that. Before any of that I
must rush off to have a shower and wash my
hair in case I am seen in public !
